[sbu_large_image] Spot the Differential

Thursday’s double Gameweek announcements certainly stirred the pot, confirming some incoming blanks whilst handing us an extra roll of the dice in Gameweek 36. With our squads are under greater scrutiny, this might just be the time to break up the template and take a punt. Friday’s delivery of “differentials” is timely, then, packaging something different for the weekend for every Fantasy budget…

Shaun Maloney

Wigan’s forgotten man for much of this season, Shaun Maloney has crash landed back onto the scene and his penalty last weekend was just rewards for a succession of sterling performances at the heart of midfield. Ok he isn’t the most glamorous of picks, but as a 4.5 regular starter with a consistent attacking threat and penalties to boot, Maloney would make a great choice for a fifth midfielder in a Wigan side desperate for points.

The Latics are deservedly in the relegation zone this season but you should never underestimate the Fantasy potential of a team fighting to stay afloat, as Liverpool found out to their cost last weekend. Fixtures stiffen up considerably after this weekend’s home tie against Stoke, but they do offer the bonus of playing in Gameweek 36 when many other sides miss a week, so Maloney’s value could come into play as a sub even if you bench him for their difficult run.

Steven Pienaar

Everton struggled to deliver any kind of consistent attacking threat in the early stages of this season but the reunion of Leighton Baines and Pienaar on the left, and the introduction of Nikica Jelavic up front, has rejuvenated Moyes’ men. Such was their dominance at Swansea and Sunderland recently that they could easily have won either game by a three or even four goal scoreline had they taken their chances and they are brimming with confidence right now.

The South African has been given more freedom to roam than last season and his relationship with Baines will surely provide the key supply line to the in-form Jelavic when a wounded West Brom arrive at Goodison this weekend.

Carlos Tevez

It would require a huge leap of faith (or desperation) to spend 11.7m on the Argentinian loose cannon at this early stage, but there are precious few players in the league with the same explosive potential as Carlos Tevez. With just 0.6% ownership in the Fantasy Premier League game, you can virtually guarantee none of your rivals will have him and with a home tie against stuttering Sunderland up next, a repeat of one of last season’s mega hauls is optimistic, but definitely a possibility.

Mancini admitted in today’s press conference that Tevez is unlikely to start this weekend, but we’re not so sure. Aguero has been ruled out with a ‘stupid’ injury and Mario Balotelli’s midweek antics are also is also expected to count him out. That leaves just Tevez and the big Bosnian as options up front and although a 45/45 split is probably the likeliest scenario, there is a Tevez-shaped hole in the City attack that he will be desperate to fill.

    TM, with Chelsea's fixture congestion surrounding the DGW is it worth investing in Mata as he is likely to be rested for at least one of the DGW games??? And is Cahill nailed on for the DGW providing Chelsea advance to the UCL Semis???

          Just his attacking flair - he'll always take a shot when he's up attacking. Evans is a close call though, I'd say it's almost evens between the two.

          Miyachi I know has got an assist in both his last games...I just don't feel in my gut he'll do anything in his next game.

    Couple of conundrums guys. This DGW bonanza has me well and truly vexed.

    Replacing Skrtel; who's his replacement? Currently torn between Kompany, Vermaelen and Sagna, thoughts?

    Other one is: replace Suarez or hold him for this week and maybe up to his DGW? If so, who to replace him with? Third strikers aren't particularly inspiring right now...Cisse looks OK, Ade has good fixtures but isn't particularly showing form and has been injured, Holt's suspended, Hoilett has tough fixtures.

    Cheers all.

      Just wait and see what happens this GW. Verm is a great option, Sagna one for a kinder price.

      See how Suarez, Cisse and Ade do. If Ade performs then he has both form and fixtures in his favour, Holt can be ignored and Hoilett alike.

      Don't go overboard on DGW though, make sure you have a good number for GW34 and then a selection of the in-form players with a DGW. Don't let that make you forget the essentials that will still likely be RVP and Rooney who can accumulate more than many DGW players in just one week.

        Thanks. Yeah think I will hold on Suarez at least for this week.

        Skrtel out I will definitely be doing as I have 2 FTs and Enrique. So you'd go Arsenal over Kompany?

          Good thinking - for clean sheets I would go City but not confident on Kompany definitely starting though.

          When he does then I'd expect CS to be more in favour or City because of their ability of keeping them...however Arsenal have the nicer fixtures, better form and Verm is an all-out attacking defender.

            Verm does have the Hollywood factor I suppose, at least it's always going to be entertaining. His kamikaze runs from the backline to the opposition's penalty box are a sight to behold. So yeah I'm gonna go him, thanks for the help!

    He has had a few starts for Arsenal lately, just wondering if he is likely to carry on getting games? I assume someone in the Arsenal backline is injured for him to be getting a run of games, so not sure if he is a safe bet even for a few weeks?

    Cheers.

          Or Bosscielny. Yeah I'm pretty sure Santos came on as sub vs. Villa and Wenger likes to give youngsters the odd rest after the Wilshere debacle and Rambo looking completely dead on his feet before finally being given a rest by Rosicky's return to form. Would be ideal at that price but unfortunately he's not secure enough.

              Yeah could be, also Boss is a minor doubt for this week. I've gone Verm for the glamour and because I sort of had money which I wasn't that fussed about spending, but if the £1.1m saved can be put to good use then I think he's good value and worth a look.

    argh I don't know what to do!

    Can afford any defender but no idea which one to bring in! Keeping in mind I have 2 Newcastle Defenders, 2 Liverpool Defenders so I'm wary of bringing in somebody like Baines who misses Gameweek 34

    Right now, I'm 90% sure I'm gonna bring in Kompany but also looking at Verm -_-

        yeah after a bit of thinking I would rather have Verm at HOME to Man City then Kompany AWAY to Arsenal next week so I think that has swayed me! 😀

        I want Cahill as well but I really need to get rid of some of my players who aren't playing in GW34 or I'll end up with like 6 players that week! lol 🙁

    Pondering a transfer for Senderos but not quite sure who to bring in. Senderos may not be nailed on and Id like to play atleast 3 defenders in the 35 GW. So I was thinking,

    Senderos ->Toure
    Senderos ->Sagna
    Senderos ->Rafael

    I'd have 6.1 mil ive if transfer out senderos.
    Any ideas???

    Still confused on my team

    Krul Vorm
    Simpson Senderos Enrique Shawcross Evans
    Bale Valencia Siggy Dempsey DYER
    RVP Rooney Ba

    2 frees, 2.8 in bank.

    Currently 6 for GW34 as I am not including Dyer.

    Which choice is best?

    a) Enrique to Kompany
    b) Upgrade Ba to 10.3
    c) Dyer + Ba > Walcott & 5.6 striker
    d) Dyer + Enrique > Walcott + Wilkinson or another 3.9 defender.
    e) Downgrade Ba
    f) something else

    Thanks in advance.

      Enrique and Simpson -> Verm/Sag and Komp. Would prefer Verm for the first one but Sag will provide decent cover and could provide some assist potential.
