We’ve had the ball in for an examination – we’ve screened it for fibres from Hatem Ben Arfa’s boots and we can now reveal that the results were inconclusive. The forensics proved nothing – Quincy has let us down.

As you may have guessed, last weekend’s events at the Sports Direct Arena and the Fantasy Premier League’s assist ruling provides the topic of discussion for this week’s ScoutCast. Wrapped around that, Mark and I throw in the usual regulars and I try my best to keep my chin up throughout, despite the widening mini-league gap.

Bring this week’s episode in for an examination via this link. Or stream the evidence from the handy player below.

I know we've been all over this but bear with me . . .
Deuce vs Bale vs Walcott this week:
I think I'm gonna go with Walcott (form & at home) but he's up against a team that must not lose and have an Itlian manager (not to mention some decent defenders) and I have RvP.
Dempsey will either score or not, there's no way of predicting. I know all about Fulham's away record but Dempsey is Dempsey & Bolton are Bolton!
Bale blows hot & cold / Sunderland are no mugs.
So, if anyone has any thoughts about the relative merits of these three going into GW32 I'd like to hear 'em.

I think you have to play Walcott at home even if it is City.

I also think Dempsey will be do well against Bolton especially if he is pushed up top so I'd play him.

Bale has 2pointer written all over him this weekend. If you have better options, bench him.

I'd go Walcott & Bale - Arsenal are up for it at home and have lots of goals in them there. Bale looks immense at the moment and has another goal streak coming up for sure as Spurs hit a nice run of fixtures. Bolton have won 3 on the trot and Fulham are pretty mince away from home. Walcott and Bale for me, but its all a lottery really...

    REPOST (for the dead zoners)

FURTHER ANALYSIS OF THE “BLANK PLAGUE” OF GW34 and DOUBLES OF GW36

Really enjoyed Sir Paulos’ in-depth examination of the GW34 and GW36 conundrum. It’s a ridiculously complicated problem and I may be wrong but it seems strange to me that no one has posted up the simple idea of just combining the fixtures of GW34 and GW36 thereby leveling out the playing field and looking at the fixtures as if there were no double gameweeks:
    Arsenal ——— WIG sto
    Aston Villa —- mun wba
    Blackburn —— swa tot
    Bolton ———- sun TOT
    Chelsea ——– QPR NEW
    Everton ——– FUL sto
    Fulham ——– eve liv
    Liverpool —— nor FUL
    Man City —— nor MUN
    Man Utd ——- AVL mci
    Newcastle —- wig che
    Norwich ——- MCI LIV
    QPR ———— wba che
    Stoke ———- ARS EVE
    Sunderland — WOL BOL
    Swansea ——- BLA WOL
    Tottenham —- BLA bol
    West Brom —- QPR AVL
    Wigan ———- ars NEW
    Wolves ——— sun swa

When you try and filter your ticker on FFS to only show GW34 and GW36 and then sort by it by ‘Overall’ difficulty it seems to have some kind of DGW malfunction, that or I just plainly disagree with the outcome. Anyway here is how I rank it from easiest to hardest (using the ticker difficulties) promoting the idea that having Swansea, Sunderland, West Brom and Arsenal players for GW34 and GW36 could be more beneficial than just getting your GW36 players in ASAP:
    Swansea ——- BLA WOL
    Sunderland — WOL BOL
    Tottenham —- BLA bol
    West Brom —- QPR AVL
    Chelsea ——– QPR NEW
    Arsenal ——— WIG sto
    Liverpool —— nor FUL
    Everton ——– FUL sto
    Man Utd ——- AVL mci
    Newcastle —- wig che
    Stoke ———- ARS EVE
    Wigan ———- ars NEW
    Wolves ——— sun swa
    Fulham ——– eve liv
    QPR ———— wba che
    Blackburn —— swa tot
    Aston Villa —- mun wba
    Bolton ———- sun TOT
    Norwich ——- MCI LIV

Now before any torrent of abuse starts I know this is an overly simplistic view because once you weigh in all of the other factors (team form, player form, injuries, suspensions, rotation, the fact that you have a 15 man squad and not just 11, free transfers etc etc etc) it loses a lot of its significance. I have already discussed in a previous post the basic strategy for us managers to rotate our squad of 15 and use free transfers to maximise the number of games your players can play in both gameweeks so I am reluctant to get into that again. This is just purely looking at the fixtures and in that sense there is one overwhelming factor which must be included for this to be any use at all… GW35! Sorry to be a pain but you’re going to have to field a team that week too folks. So, when we include the GW35 fixtures (again I have to differ with what the ticker throws up) I rank them like so:
    Swansea ——- BLA bol WOL
    Sunderland — WOL avl BOL
    Tottenham —- qpr BLA bol
Aston Villa —- mun SUN BOL wba
Bolton ———- SWA avl sun TOT
West Brom —- QPR liv AVL
    Liverpool —— WBA nor FUL
    Arsenal ——— WIG CHE sto
    Newcastle —- STO wig che
Man Utd ——- AVL EVE mci
    Chelsea ——– ars QPR NEW
Man City —— nor wol MUN
    Blackburn —— swa NOR tot
    Fulham ——– WIG eve liv
    Everton ——– mun FUL sto
    Stoke ———- new ARS EVE
    Norwich ——- MCI bla LIV
    Wigan ———- ars ful NEW
    QPR ———— wba TOT che
    Wolves ——— sun MCI swa

A few things can be gathered from all of this. The first is, don’t just trust the ticker, use it as a guide and make your own calculations. Obviously Villa and Bolton’s 4 fixtures promotes them to lofty positions here but I actually agree with this as not enough people are respecting this and contemplating bringing in Villa and Bolton players in GW35 which I see as a sneaky and viable strategy. Liverpool go up in my estimations while Everton and Stoke are two teams which fall considerably but this can be counter-balanced by their last two fixtures of the season which are favourable. I urge people to get a full compliment of Spurs players for this precise reason as they have great fixtures up to, during and crucially after the DGW.

I’m pretty sure the more savvy users of FFS will have narrowed their ticker down and looked at it from this perspective, as well as others, themselves but for those that haven’t had this particular brainwave, perhaps this post is a useful slant on how you will deal with this unique twist in the fixture list. It could go on, you could add in the last 2 fixtures of the season (why not?) but that’s for another time. The reason I added GW35 into the equation and not 37 & 38 is because GW35 cannot be ignored, any plans you make for GW36 now MUST include players for GW35, the same is not true of 37 and 38 where your plans only PREFERABLY factor these weeks in. Anyway there is no perfect balance right now, when the gameweeks are over some will say there was ‘one’ and the lucky few will have nailed it, but right now it is not apparent. Enjoy my wild stab in the dark though 😛

I just need a semblance of form from any Villa player, any spark to encourage me and I might do the same.

I think there is a good advantage to bringing in a Villa player in GW34 and a Bolton player in GW35 as you are getting 4 fixtures for the price of 3 and 2 respectively.

It's a great post, but I don't agree IT. Personally, I would much prefer to have a player who has 3 fixtures in GWs 34-36, over someone who has 3 fixtures in GWs 35-36. When looking at fixtures, I'm considering FA Cup and CL, as this increases the threat of injuries, rotation, and team just not putting up a performance.

I know you can't do it from the ticker, but I'd want to judge the fixtures based on spread, rather than number of games (except for Villa and Bolton who have the extra game, of course).

Not a problem my man, these are all just viewpoints and opinions. I was just trying to simplify a very difficult problem down to its most simplest form. Purely fixtures, no other factors such as the ones you mentioned.

It's only meant to be a perspective to acknowledge and not a strict guide or justification for any particular strategy.

        Yeah. Definitely.

I mean, GW32 and GW33 are probably more important than the final two as they are due earlier and less can change in the meantime.

This post is all about trying to simplify a very difficult problem however and the more fixture we add in the more complicated the problem becomes again...

Exactly! Baines is a classic example. After the United game Everton should be top of the list with Spurs. It also doesn't consider Sunderland having only 3 good fixtures so its ok if you already have Sunderland players but a little risky to get Sunderland players in as you'd soon need to get rid of them again. Posts such as this also don't consider form which can override everything

The point of the post it to try and level the playing field and simplify a very difficult set of variables. If that's not something you want to do, fair enough.

This week doesn't feel right.. I'm after some advice.

It doesn't feel right because I have two stars on the bench... That can't be right can it?

    Mignolet (Wol H)

    Enrique (villa H)
    Evans (qpr H)
    Caulker (new H)

    Siggy (new H)
    Sessy (spurs H)
    Bale (Sun A)
    Valencia (qpr H)

    Jelavic (Nor A)
    Rooney c (qpr H)
    RVP (man c H)

Which makes the bench look ridiculous...

    Krul (swa A)
    Walcott (man c H)
    BAE ( sun A)
    Simpson ( swa A)

Am I being stupid? Surely I should be finding space for Walcott and BAE?

    Help!

Depends which Blackburn team turns up against West Brom. The Yak can get very isolated in away fixtures.

You just know one of them will score 2 points... I think I'd bench Dempsey.. possibly, maybe!

McAuley will be coming in as I got a defensive headache this week and need him for GW34. I will be doing Simpson--->Turner or Caulker for GW34 to field 4-4-2 then.

So who to bench from these defenders for GW32:

    BAE, Evans, Verm, Simpson McAuley

Yeah BAE and Verm play for me - only defender there with a 'bolt on' clean sheet is Evans, so then its playing the odds and looking at scoring so Verm and BAE offer most there. Also, if in doubt, go with the higher placed team...Spurs and Ars are flying high

Is this a serious question? Dave will score more over BOL (N/A) STK than any of the candidates with 3 games (bendtner, odem, graham), and then has a double against a team that can't defend, and one that will be absolutely knackered after playing a million games in three weeks.

Unless you are talking about the other cisse? Then get rid!!!

Thinking of Impressive Tackles post above would it be such a bad idea to get HBA in instead of Walcott? I'm keen to back his hot streak at the moment and his fixtures are fairly decent from the Bolton game? the key though is that it would enable me to keep Rooney for the season and get Baines for the DGW

Walcot: wol, WIG, CHE, sto, NOR, wba
HBA: BOL, 0, STO, wig/che, MCI, eve

I'd bench HBA for the MCI game but I also think Newcastle will fancy the Chelsea fixture as a very winnable one.

The alternative I guess is to have Walcott but downgrade Rooney in GW36 in order to get Baines.
    What do you guys think?

I think that Rooney out for GW36 for a DGWer is the best way to go as the City game will probably quite a tight game and after that I predict the title will be won so there is no need for Fergie to play him against Swansea and Sunderland.

So if United win the league with a couple of games to spare you think SAF will 'rest' Rooney? Rest him for what exactly?

He'll play for sure, Ferguson will want to win both those games and Rooney will want to play in both of them

Rooney hates being rested too and he loves big games. He would dearly like to score against Citeh without a doubt. Remember he is also fixture proof, Rooney is a class player

Really? I thought he might play Berbatov or give some young players a go. Also will Rooney be playing at 100% as he has nothing to play for unlike a player like Adebayor who'll be fighting for third place.

In a Derby there is everything to play for 😉

Berbatov is surely off regardless in the summer. As for Rooney playing 100%, i can't say i've ever seen him play at anything less. He'll want to play and score in both those games you mentioned. What's the merit in leaving him out of those games? And who are these youngsters? Michael Owen 😀

This can also be compared in terms of form and PPG (points per game)

      Walcott

      overall: 5
      Last 10 games: 6.4
      Last 5 games: 6.4

      Ben Arfa

      overall: 4.1
      Last 10 games: 5.5
      Last 5 games: 7.6

This shows B Arfa is on a real hot streak at the moment and could mean he will match Walcots output but for a much cheaper price allowing transfers elsewhere

Because there are two of them and it's easier than saying Papiss Demba Cisse...

Someone just suggested it and it stuck...

Two Cisses or two Dembas? No confusion with Djibril anyway now as the QPR idiot is constantly suspended
