[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

The April 8 suspension amnesty has now passed, meaning the bar has now been raised to 15 yellows before any further bans for cautions accrued kick in. Only one of the three players sitting on nine yellows prior to last weekend picked up a booking – Laurent Koscielny was the guilty party at the Emirates against City on Sunday, meaning the Arsenal centre-half will now sit out the next couple of Gameweeks.

Arsene Wenger will need to make do without Koscielny’s services for Wednesday’s trip to Wolves as well as next Monday’s home clash against Wigan, before the defender is available for selection for the Emirates showdown with Chelsea in Gameweek 35.

The Gunners man was hardly the headline-maker in the 1-0 win, though. That dubious honour went the way of Mario Balotelli and, according to reports, the City forward could, potentially, be facing a nine-game ban for his misdemeanours.

Having already been dismissed earlier this season, Balotelli will definitely be handed a three-match suspension for his sending off, while he may also incur the FA’s wrath for the first-half studs-up lunge on Alex Song. If referee Martin Atkinson reports that neither he nor his assistants had a view on the latter incident, the FA may also charge Balotelli with violent conduct – that would bring a three-match ban, plus three more matches for his previous dismissals would bring the tally to nine.

Branislav Ivanovic could also be heading for trouble after his off-the-ball punch on Wigan’s Shaun Maloney. The incident happened in the build-up to Chelsea’s late winner over the Latics but, as the referee Mike Jones missed the incident, the FA were not made aware of it in time, meaning Ivanovic was available for the trip to Fulham last night. The incident will now be reviewed, with the defender facing a possible three-match ban – he would miss the FA Cup Semi-Final against Spurs, in addition to league clashes with Arsenal and QPR, if found guilty.

Shaun Derry’s appeal over a straight red card received at Old Trafford on Sunday will be heard by the FA this afternoon – the midfielder is hoping his current one-match ban will be overturned, allowing him to be available for Wednesday’s match with Swansea.

Blackburn’s Anthony Modeste lasted just ten minutes of Blackburn’s defeat at West Brom last weekend. The Frenchman – on as a second half sub – was dismissed for violent conduct after lashing out at the Baggies’ Billy Jones and will now sit out the next three matches for Steve Kean’s strugglers.

As mentioned, the yellow card limit has now been extended from 10 to 15 cautions before players receive an automatic ban. No one managed this feat last term, though Cheick Tiote got within touching distance after picking up 14 cautions – this time round, Lee Cattermole is making a decent attempt, with the Sunderland skipper currently sitting on 12 yellows with five Gameweeks remaining. Cattermole seems the likeliest to achieve this, with Blackburn’s Jason Lowe hot on his heels with 11.

Gameweek 33 Bans

  • Shaun Derry – 1 Red for Denying a Goalscoring Opportunity (One-match ban)
  • Mario Balotelli – 1 Red for 2 Yellows (Three-match ban, having previously been dismissed this season)
  • Laurent Koscielny – 1 Yellow took his haul to 10 bookings (Two-match ban)
  • Anthony Modeste – 1 Red for Violent Conduct (Three-match ban)
  • Jose Reina – serving second game of three-match ban.
  • Djibril Cisse – serving third game of four-match ban.

Definitely. Watching the games allows you to judge a player's performance without having to rely on second hand information from media or forums. I've bought many players after watching them play well in a particular game.

That is pretty obvious to be fair... I've not watched many games this season, just the ones I think might be entertaining. Haven't watched MOTD all year.

Watching games can be beneficial sometimes though, e.g. picking out players with potential who haven't caught fire yet. I remember watching Carroll against MU in the first game last season, he didn't score but caused absolute mayhem. I brought him in straight after that game solely on that performance, and he went goal crazy from then on.

you dont NEED to watch the games to be good, but it does help, i find you can often gauge how effective/what position or how far up the field a player is playing. aNot only that it can sometimes be how unlucky they are, ie Bale and Van Persie hitting the Bar/post in the last couple of GW's.

+1, absolutely agree, my best period this season was when I didn't watch a single game and didn't touch my team at all (in February) 🙂
I've watched more EPL football than ever in the first half of this season, and it's been by far the worst season for me. The way I see it, there is actually a negative correlation.

On another note, I'm playing three fantasy games on another site (rules are very similar to FPL but without bonus points) : England, Germany, and Spain. Normally, I watch at least weekly reviews of EPL and Bundesliga. And I suck at both of them (rank of around 1K out of 30K playing). I haven't watched even a minute of any La Liga's game this season and I'm 20th there :)))

You don't need to quit FF to do this. Just reason with your irrational side. Now and again I'll be thinking "Oh I hope Rooney doesn't score another coz Joe Bloggs has him captain" but I quickly then realize it's stupid, I support United so I always want Rooney to score.

I've learned to just employ a wry smile when things go against you FPL wise and enjoy the games.

I don't know it just doesn't work for me this way. I still remember that Joe Bloggs has him captain and it spoils watching football.
Besides, I think it's not just supporting your own players and cheering against your rival's that spoils it. It's more like watching football from the scouting point of view, constantly trying to judge who might be a good fantasy prospect and who might be not, instead of just enjoying how teams play and support the one you like...
Anyway, I feel that I need a rest from this game. So, next season I'm out.

Yeah as far as FF is concerned i've had to give up some principles, i.e the first two seasons i played i would not bring in any United players, i then sucked it up an decided i could not compete without them in my team, and Leeds aren't even in the same league anymore so i should technically be neutral for a lot of the prem games.of course it doesn't always work like that, and i still have conflicting interests when FF comes into the mix.

        +1

I'm on board with this. I watch the games just for enjoyment, for instance I loved Defoe's finish yesterday, thought it was one of the best goals of the afternoon but it meant nothing to me in FPL terms. I just like seeing good football.

When it comes to FPL I just get players who are picking up the most points in teams with the best form and fixtures. This site mostly helps with identifying who those players are.

I must admit I did begin to think more about FPL at one point and I started to lose enjoyment in the actual games. I think I've found the right level now. It probably helps that I follow a team outside of the prem.

It's an interesting topic tho coz I'm convinced there are people who don't enjoy the games simply because they start to think more about their points.

Don't like Mata either. Pienaar might be a good bet.

Using WC in GW35 would also suggest another Bolton and/or Villa player. I think a lot of people might be worried about their GW35 team with all the focus on GW34 and GW36. Petrov/Wheater probably the pick of the bunch.

I find it so hard to understand how players like carroll downing torres adam go from so good to so bad
like i know that at newcastle the whole team was centred towards aerial play towards carroll but even still he was physicaly bullying centre backs and looked such a player

same with adam even though he was a big fish in a small pond he was fantastic last season for blackpool with even fergie saying his corners alone were worth 10 million and now it seems he doesnt know how to beat the first man in corners

is it that they realise theyve got their big move and train less hard and care less??

please no snide remarks about liverpool this is a serious question

Ya + 1, Carroll I think must have personal problems, downing hasn't delivered- I think he's better than we're seeing but this Liverpool decline has helped neither. Torres is the ultimate ? Mark-confidence seems shattered like a Porsche after a car-crash. Adam like so many small fish IMO should stay small, I think fergie was saying bout the corner thing in jest knowing Jenny was interested ! And I think the next on that list could be Dempsey not sure if a big move will suit him, he's now the main man at fulham, loved adored by all- you could say "the current darling of the league" imagine him at arsenal/utd- would it really work ?

It is hard to understand. Don't listen to the rabble.

In his first 4 seasons in the EPL, Fernando Torres was the most prolific goal scorer (66) more than the likes of Rooney (61) and Drogba (53) over the same period. < This includes his largely barren first 6 months at Chelsea.

these players roles have changed from their teams.
1- caroll: mostly dangerous with crosses that come from deep, not the line. barton was a great supply. only gerrard is able to give him such balls, but between his signing and gerrrard return his confidence was wrecked. not to mention couple of formidable saves from unlikely keepers.

2- adam: he was the go to guy and the mental leader, he is good when he has responsibility. failed badly at rangers because he wasnt leading the midfield. at liverpool started the seaon well enough but once gerrard returned he dissapeared. not to mention he needs a hard man defender next to him (like vaughn in blackpool or lucas)

3- downing: was only effective going with pace collecting a through pass by the line. in liverpool all through passes go to suarez. NO EXCEPTION. now he has to beat his man which he was never good at

4- torres: went to a team that was built around a big forward (drogba). no other striker worked for them (shevshenko kezman crespo...) so i dnt think he is the problem i think drogba have been there for so long

agree with most of this but cant question the fact that th eplayers ability has gone down
torres has lost his pace carroll has poor touch and much slower

i think the main thing is the loss of pace in all these players

I switched to Ade. Short term horror show, hoping for longer term points haul over Cisse.

Cisse has tough games coming up, and NEWC were poor yesterday until the wonder goal by Barfa (that's what I keep telling myself anyway...)

Also, I'm 2nd in both my important ML's, and the leaders both have Cisse (surprise surprise!) so I'm looking as Ade as a good differ.

I swapped him out for Cisse on Sunday. All the teams around me in my leagues have him (Cisse) so I did it to consolidate my position as much as anything else. Another factor is his value, which is sky rocketting.

    Vorm, Ming,
    Simpson, Cahill, Evans, McAuley, Shotton
    Walcott, Valencia Sess Dempsey, Siggy
    RVP, Rooney, Bendy

I'm thinking Cahill -> Vermaelen or Sagna because

    1. good chance of a Arse CS, the koscienlny absence isn't a massive deal is it?

    Team News:

Manchester United are expected to make changes as they look to extend an eight match winning run when they take on Wigan at the DW Stadium.

Tom Cleverley and Chris Smalling will be amongst those hoping for a start, with Paul Scholes and Rio Ferdinand likely to be rested for the overwhelming title favourites.

Luis Nani (ankle) is fit but did not even make the bench against QPR on Sunday.

Maybe Smalling and Jones will get a start for Ferdinand and Rafael in defence .

If any of Rooney, Evans or Valencia were to miss out then I am out of PP cup. Opponent would have Clint off bench

I think the chances of Young getting rested are higher than Valencia. I just hope Evans and Rooney start. Its hard enough just having about enough players for the next GW.

I'd really love Mata in my team too. Ive had him the last 6 weeks and he's delivered briliantly. But I doubt with all of Chelsea's fixtures that he will start both those games.

Hmm that's the worry, is going to be tough to decide. I don't want to go too overboard though, as most DGW players have poor GW36+37 fixtures.

Does anyone know when they are going to do the bonus points for yesterday games??? I captained CISSE and hoping he will get the Egg, Bacon and Sausage BAP. At the same time, Simpson Egg and Bacon and Ben Arfa (rival) just the egg bap! (sorry i am hungry).

Ben Arfa's goal last night was no more down to bad defending than maradonna's was against England in 86. Bolton just couldn't get near him!!

he was too quick (after sprinting freely the first 10 yards) that if anyone caugh him it would've been a definite YC at least

Ben Arfa's goal yesterday was nowhere near as good as Maradonna's in '86. He just ran in a straight line when none of the Bolton players expected it or could get a telling tackle in. Pure pace coupled with horrible defending.

Maradonna's was pace AND technique. Wonderful goal.

Watch it again. Cruyyf turn past one defender, burst of pace to take him past the next, balance to keep on his feet after having his ankles tapped, lifted the ball past the next defender, another burst of pace past the last man, followed by a cool as you like finish into the bottom corner.

He will come good for sure. In real terms anyway. I don't think that he is a good option in fantasy terms anymore, even when he does get his form back. He is positioned to far away from the goal.
