Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez miss out as Kenny Dalglish rests and rotates at Blackburn. Maxi Rodriguez and Andy Carroll are the main protagonists as the visitors return to winning ways, while Yakubu grabs a double for Rovers to take his season tally to 16…

Liverpool Rotation
With a weekend FA Cup Semi-Final to consider, Kenny Dalglish followed on from Harry Redknapp and David Moyes’ Monday selection policy by resting many of his main men for the trip to Ewood Park. It proved to be a hugely frustrating night for many Fantasy managers as the Reds returned to winning ways ahead of the Everton showdown. Steven Gerrard missed out altogether, Jose Enrique was handed a brief second half sub role for a single point return, while Luis Suarez warmed the away bench for the entire 90 minutes – ironically, their absence saw the Reds win on the road for the first time since Gameweek 23 at Wolves. Glen Johnson and Daniel Agger were given 52 and 38 minutes respectively as they continue their injury comebacks, with Dalglish revealing post-match that the pair came through the game without any problems.

Liverpool Goalkeepers
Doni’s time between the posts as Dalglish’s number one didn’t last long. With Pepe Reina suspended, the Brazilian started against Villa and Blackburn but his dismissal means he is now out of the FA Cup Semi-Final with Everton after receiving a one-match suspension. Although Brad Jones will fill in at Wembley, the Merseyside clash is the last of Reina’s three-game ban, meaning the Spaniard will return for Liverpool’s next league match, a home clash with West Brom in Gameweek 35.

Maxi Rodriguez
The Argentine has rarely featured under Dalglish this season – last night was just his eighth appearance of the campaign. Afforded a midfield starting role, Maxi bagged a double to take his tally to four in six starts – Stewart Downing, Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam have a combined return of three goals from 78 starts, in comparison. With the Reds struggling to find the net, it’s all the more perplexing that Maxi hasn’t featured since Gameweek 22; if his side prevail at Wembley this weekend, perhaps the 7.0 priced midfielder may see more game time over the rest of the season if Dalglish maintains his rotation policy.

Daniel Agger
Eased back into action after a rib injury, the Dane climbed off the bench to make a significant contribution for the second consecutive Gameweek. Having provided an assist for Luis Suarez against Villa last weekend, Agger set up Andy Carroll for the visitors’ late winner, nodding on for the forward to head past Paul Robinson in the home goal. With the double Gameweek 36 to factor in, Agger – with a mere 2.2% ownership – could prove to be a decent differential over the rest of the campaign.

Andy Carroll
It took Fernando Torres until Gameweek 31 to pick up his first double figure return this season – his Anfield replacement will break his own personal duck if he picks up a single bonus point on Thursday morning. The former Newcastle man is currently sitting on nine points, with a goal and assist in last night’s five-goal thriller surely set to bring Carroll bonus. With nine points accumulated over the previous eight Gameweeks, his 1.9% ownership even seems generous after a dire Fantasy campaign.

Yakubu
Prior to last night, Blackburn had lost only one game the Nigerian had notched in – back in Gameweek 17 at home to Bolton. Despite bagging a brace against Liverpool, a missed spot-kick proved costly for both Rovers and his Fantasy owners; a 3-2 defeat kept Steve Kean’s side in the bottom three, while Yakubu was deducted a couple of points for a woeful spot-kick. His goal tally has now climbed to 16 for the campaign; only Robin Van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Sergio Aguero have scored more than the 6.0 priced forward. With Swansea, Norwich and Wigan in the final five fixtures, Yakubu looks likely to get amongst the goals again before the season is out.

I'm pretty sure Suarez would have at least 12 goals right now if Maxi had been playing weekly. Suarez should definitely be left OFF that list. And add Henderson and Adam to that...the old fart has been pot committed for quite a while. Also no reason Aurelio shouldn't be given time at DM as well, not to mention the loaning out of Aquilani should have gotten him laughed out of town.

That said i am 130pts down in my min league also, hence the appearence of Kolarov. I am still in with a shot at the H2H reserve league though, and getting into the top40 of that would be a fantastic.

If anyone's avoiding this evening's EPL results until Match of the Day, you might instead want to watch the big Bundesliga showdown between Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich (kick-off at 7pm, UK time).

There's only three points between them at the top with five games to go, and Borussia Dortmund received 450,000 (!) ticket applications for the match. You can find a nice preview here from Raphael Honigstein:

I dislike the fact these things become a popularity contest. Sure it used to make sense when the more popular the act the larger the audience and more money made. But now, how many of us are gonna go, pretty close to zilch.

Hi Guys, need some advice on the following team for G34:

    Vorm (Friedel)

    Vermaelen Caulker Evans (Kelly) (Simpson)
    Siggy McClean Walcott Valencia (Bale)
    RVP Rooney (Ba)

I have 10 players for Gameweek 3. Do you think I should make a transfer or save it?

The only transfer I’m thinking of is Kelly to a Sunderland/WBA defender?

    2 questions this morning!

    1) Is anyone else struggling with Mata or Cashley for the double?

    2) Would both Cisse and B Arfa be overkill considering their relatively tough fixtures in 37 and 38?

I doubt Cisse and Barfa would be overkill - I'm planning to get in Cisse and Cabaye for the doubleweek and I've already got Barfa! Newcastle have proved they can pull of shocks when they are the underdogs so I have no reason to believe they can't win the rest of their games 😉

Right Glen Johnson finally played some time for me last night.

Him and Micah Richards have been put on the backburner for being binned for the past few weeks, as more important things necessary.

With Agger back and Reina back after the semi final on Saturday, means that Johnson looks good for GW35 and GW36 (well alright at least).

So Richards should be my priority to leave this week? (Hope he starts tonight though and scores in a 2-1 loss 😉 )

So... captain choice this week is going to be the decider it seems, with everyone having: RVP, Rooney, Valencia, Walcott, Evans, Verm, Swansea defedner, Siggy, McClean/Sess, Sunderland/WBA defender.

Most will go RVP. I think Ill go Sess

Depends on ML situation, some need to take a risk and others need to play it safe. Sess looks a decent differential; worth keeping an eye on a potential Wolves collapse tonight as further encouragement.

Completely depends on the results of the FA Cup semi-finals. The DGW is 29th Apr & 2nd May and the FA Cup final is 5th May. Soooo, whoever out of Spurs, Chelsea, Everton & Liverpool get to the final, expect rotation galore in the second game of the DGW.

Would it be a smart choice to go for Sess as captain next week. Most of my rivals will take 4 to 8 point hits to field 10-11 players and I think me and the first placed fella will be almost on equal points by the end of this Gameweek.

I'm getting Petrov for 35 and making him captain. Chasing a 40pt deficit so need to take a few risks. Worst case scenario he should get me 4 (x2) anyway.

I've already got Bogdan so will probably play him in GW35 then Krul in GW36. Otherwise I don't think it's worth it.

Got a free transfer and currently fielding 9 players next week. Kelly to Turner seem sensible? Also have no keeper but would like to hang on to Krul and Bogdan.

You are in a nearly identical situation as I am. Have Krul and Bogdan - keeping and playing Krul each week I imagine, though maybe Ill play Bogdan in Gw35.

Alsp have Kelly and considered selling for Turner. But then I realised Ill probably want to play Turner for 1 week only and it doesnt seem worthwhile.

Decided on Bale->Sess in the end. It may end up being a 1 week move (Barfa in week 35), but at least there is significant upside potential.

Grand National question. I need to dothe work sweepstake today due to people not being around for the rest of the week. If one of the original 40 horses is pulled out over the next day or so do you know which horse is directly replacing it or is it a matter of if 3 horses drop out 3 reserves are brought in but not for a specific horse................is that waffle 🙂

Top 40 are the current runners. If any of them drop out then first reserve is 41 and so on and so forth.

I have 10 for next week (only 2 defenders) but is it worth saving my transfer and then doing a Bolton player next week for their double and then have 2 free ones in 36 for the big double, with 6 dgw players already in my squad?

I just can't see the value in getting a defender in this week as there isn't one that stands out as a good pick really.

Cisse has been involved in 9 out of 10 goals. If you have Cisse, is it wise to get Barfa when you already have such good Newcastle coverage of goals?

True but Ben Arfa is still a little inconsistent for me, especially against the bigger clubs. Before his goal at the weekend, he was pretty ineffective.

RVP against a fatigued Chelsea? They play Barcelona before.

Rooney is gone in GW35 for me, either Suarez or Adebayor.

Calling All Fantasy Football Gurus, Grand Masters and Fortune Tellers!

Been playing catch-up all season and just as I get close to #1 he pulls ahead by 40+ points. I have a plan set for the next few weeks (if the gods spare me) and would like to know your thoughts, ideas or suggestions please.

    Team:
    Krul, Vorm
    Evans, Kompany, BAE, Caulker, Simpson
    Bale, Valencia, Walcott, Sig, McClean
    RVP, Rooney, Cisse

Currently have 2 free transfers and 2.9 in the bank.

    My plan:
GW34: (Not sure yet...can I afford to lose a free transfer to carry 2 over? What are my options?)
GW35: Walcott OUT - Dempsey IN
GW36: Kompany and McClean OUT - Huth/ShawX and Pienaar IN

Leaves me with 8 double gameweek players for GW36. I will have 10 starting in GW34.

What are you guys thinking...all good...can I do better...?

I'm stumped for Gameweek 34 in terms of a transfer. It would mean dropping to 7 double gameweek players to field an 11 for GW34 (possible option) or doing the reverse. With budget in mind, I'm not so sure I can afford to flirt with a player for 1 week...a hit will also put me back 4pts...and I'm worried that if I load too much for the double I could leave my team slightly week for the last 2 gameweeks.

    What say you?

        Agree.

If you have 2 free transfers you should definitely use one this week.

Id probably sell Simpson for Turner, allowing you to get Barfa instead of Pienaar for the double (who imo is a better bet). I dont think you need to be doubling up on Newcastle defence - as well as its served u so far, it wont continue imo
