This week’s Digest focuses on a certain Argentine at City, the recent revival at the DW and the dilemma many Fantasy managers have up front, with the possibility of shedding one or perhaps even both of Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney from our Fantasy squads proving to be a hot topic on the boards.

The Player

His return to the City first-team may ultimately prove too late for the club’s title bid but, for Fantasy managers, Carlos Tevez still offers plenty potential. Roberto Mancini’s side have rediscovered their swagger since the Argentine’s installation up front, returning to the early-season attacking form that simply tore their opponents apart.

With Tevez working in tandem with Sergio Aguero, the Etihad side seem an altogether different animal from the one that stuttered and struggled so badly for goals over the past few months. Tevez’s work-rate and ability to drop deep and link up play affords Aguero the space to thrive – the pair’s on-pitch understanding is far superior to anything Aguero has struck up with Mario Balotelli or Edin Dzeko over the course of the season.

While Tevez stole the headlines in Saturday’s annihilation of Norwich with three goals, an assist and 19 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points for his afternoon’s work, the knock-on effect on Aguero has seen both players lead the charge for transfers-in this week, ahead of the trip to Wolves. Already, both have been acquired by more than 20,000 Fantasy managers.

The stats speak for themselves – while Tevez has picked up 26 points in his last two appearances, Aguero has now notched four goals and picked up two assists alongside his compatriot in Gameweeks 33-34. Given that Aguero had returned four goals and one assist between Gameweek 18-32, the stark comparison must have Mancini ruing that fateful evening in Munich way back in September.

The trip to Molineux is likely to see plenty more Fantasy managers scramble to get a piece of the action, despite a home game with United to follow in Gameweek 36. Although Mancini’s men are rank outsiders for the title and have ruled out by many, it’s fair to say that with Tevez on board, we can expect the unexpected.

The Team

Another great escape beckons for Roberto Martinez’s men. Only a few weeks ago, the Latics looked doomed. The fixture ticker was a sea of red; with their more testing run of games to follow, many had written Wigan off but last night’s win at the Emirates gave them their fourth triumph in the past five Gameweeks.

Liverpool, Stoke, United and now Arsenal have been put to the sword as Martinez engineers another scramble for survival. While their ascent up the table has been remarkable, the knock-on effect in Fantasy terms has been particularly damaging. Their 1-0 win over the league leaders in Gameweek 33 is the only goal United have conceded in the past seven Gameweeks; coming on the back of a 2-0 win over Stoke at the DW, this helped Wigan chalk up back-to-back home clean sheets for the first time this term.

Despite the visitors’ recent form, huge numbers of Fantasy managers handed Robin Van Persie the captain’s armband for last night’s match only for Jordi Gomez and Franco Di Santo to steal the Dutchman’s thunder. With Victor Moses playing a significant part over the last couple of months – the winger has now returned 37 points in the last seven Gameweeks – Martinez’s men clearly have the bit between their teeth and with their top-flight safety on the line, have proven to be a potent source of Fantasy points.

Certainly, their form will have many thinking twice over handing Clint Dempsey the armband ahead of this week’s trip to the Cottage now. With games against Blackburn and Wolves to see the season out, the cut-price potential on offer amongst Martinez’s troops could prove profitable over the final hurdle of the campaign.

The Talking Point

As double Gameweek 36 edges ever nearer, Fantasy managers are starting to shape their squads and assess the potential ahead. With Spurs, Newcastle and Everton all facing a couple of fixtures each, the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor, Papiss Cisse and Nikica Jelavic are all set for significant investment, with the trio all expected to play a part in both their respective clubs’ pair of matches.

The shake-up in our forward lines has many even contemplating what was, perhaps, previously unthinkable; getting rid of Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney. Van Persie’s blank against Wigan last night took his recent tally to a single goal in the last six Gameweeks – with the Dutchman’s superb Fantasy season now tailing off in disappointing style, the decision to cash in and move on still looks risky, given he finishes the season with games against Norwich and West Brom.

For Rooney, up next is a home clash with Everton – a game he notoriously tends to struggle in. David Moyes seems to know just how to nullify Rooney’s attacking threat, with the Toffees likely to sit tight and give their former player little space to operate in. After that, it’s a trip to City in Gameweek 36 and, with eight other clubs afforded a pair of fixtures, the logic behind his transfer out is obvious, with many instead holding onto Antonio Valencia for United coverage. A home clash with Swansea in Gameweek 37 looks prosperous but, with a trip to Sunderland on the final day of the season, Rooney has, arguably, one strong fixture still to come.

Shipping out one or both would certainly free up plenty budget to plan elsewhere – the likes of Jelavic has dropped to as low as 5.8, for example – and would freshen up our squads, with so many forward lines looking a little too similar at the moment. With many a mini league still on the line, it’s a viable tactic, though, and one that could undoubtedly reap reward for those Fantasy managers bold enough to take a chance.

Considering the exact same moves myself. I'm definitely going for A (unless I decide to ditch RVP, unlikely!) and B looks very tempting. But Rooney has been performing very, very well at home pretty much all season - he is always involved (FPL point wise).

Thoughts and analysis from MUT-AVL and ARS-WIG now added, including features on Welbeck, Rooney, Valencia, Rafael, Moses, Walcott, Rosicky, RvP and Wigan's defending. Hope it helps...

I'm in Salford Quays today and the guy I'm visiting took me to lunch at the Red Cafe inside Old Trafford because he's a season ticket holder. All the chairs have a squad number and name on the back of them. I found "Ashley Young" and laid it on its back. "I only hung my jacket on it!".

It’s amazing how tight everything is in terms of points and rankings.

2 bonus points for Vermaelen and the holy Moses moved me up nearly 200 places!  And I’m relatively high in the rankings (4,000ish).

Which is a slippery slope of a thought process really, because you start wondering how many places difference there would be if you’d done X or Y.  For example, had I captained Rooney over RVP, the extra 11 points could have put me maybe 1,000+ places higher.  Had I had Cisse for the past 6 weeks and not Ba I reckon I’d be top 1k, which is a heartbreaking (in FPL terms of course) thing to realise!

No probably not but I would say he's a risk to be subbed off before the full 90.

Given the fact it's Wolves away and Decko isn't in great form, I'd bet on him getting 60+ mins

        Possibly...it's a tough one though.

Depends on how he does and Ade does. I might downgrade Tevez to likes of Cisse and then get VDV/Mata in, or keep Tevez in, downgrade Ade to Cisse and possibly get Baines in.

        I hate DGWs 😀

    b) for the DGW should i go with osman or piennar?

    Ok folks help me out

    De Gea

    Evans, Verm, Santon, Kolarov

    Dempsey, Bale, Siggy (c)

    Cisse, RvP, Rooney

    Mingolet, Caulker, Sess, McClean

    1FT 1.1 in bank

    Do I save it?

Draft Tevez in as a 1 week punt

    Draft him in and keep.

    Any other suggestions?

Save it. You's just have to get him out again. 2 Ft and that team sets you up for 36

Also I'd play Sess > Verm

Verm won't get too much at set plays as Chelsea care pretty big and can defend them well IMO and unlikely to keep a cs.

if you go for tevez in its prob guna have to be rooney out coz if you get rid of van persie you prob cant afford him back after. i managed to keep roonay and vanpersie and added aguero for one week then going bak to adebayor the following week.

Mine looks semi-decent, but only because my ML agreed that you couldn't own either Messi or CR7 so that definitely helps the budget.

      Neuer (Apoel Goalkeeper)
Puyol Ramos Terry (2 Apoel defenders)
      Mata Fabregas Robben Callejon (Mikel)

How does this look for tonight folks, inside the top 100 so would appreciate some advice.

    Neuer
    Badstuber - Puyol - Pepe - Adriano/Arbeloa?
    Kroos - Robben - Alaba
    Messi - Ronaldo - Benzema/Gomez?

Mikel and 3 non playing subs then.

Think both the defenders and Strikers are very hard to choose from.
Id say Adriano more likely to keep a CS.
And my personal preference is Gomez.

Do you think Adriano will start? Yeah unsure about the strikers too, i could play Gomez this week and swith to Benzema the next. But, with Robben and Kroos i feel like I have Bayern more covered, I would only have Ronaldo from Real otherwise.

Yeah Adriano has played lots of games lately.
And if you feel happy with Bayern cover then Benzema could be the way to go.

I don't see Newcastle getting a CS in either game and Simpson unlikely to get any other points. I think Swansea will keep a CS v Wolves so on that basis Caulker is a better choice than Simpson.
Lamps will play no more than 90 mins I reckon. Siggy will outpoint him.

yes go for it. i have the same front 7 even without a WC. i've been planning since a few wks back and benched players like adebayor during gw34.

perhaps there are better options than huth and simpson? cech probably won't cleansheet against newcastle, is there another keeper with better fixtures other than friedel?

Hey guys, I've already asked for help with this but I didn't get much response 🙁

I need to pick one of:

    Kelly (WIG)
    BAE (qpr)
    Caulker (bol)

At the moment I have them ranked in that order but it could totally change by Saturday!

Wigan's form is hard to ignore but surely Fulham have a chance to keep a cleanie (at least that was my original thinking before last night's result)

BAE has the attacking threat and Spurs are a decent defensive unit when Parker plays but QPR have been decent at home recently.

I don't know what to expect from Swansea in an away game against a below average team.

Yeah, don't think I'll get either. Not sure I can justify an 8 point hit to move one on, not sure if I want to keep until the end, although other than Cisse, who I own, no DGW strikers actually appeal all that much.

      YES

But still not convinced Rooney>Tevez instead of RVP>Tevez is the right thing to do.

Rooney is in much much better form, and won't RVP's opportunities be hampered by Arteta being out and Walcott currently being out of form.

Yeh, I think I am exaggerating on Walcott 😛

But you can't deny Rooney form >much greater than> RVP form

I did, he had no space and had like 3 men on him at all times, he was shocking against Wolves, but still got the 2 bonus there. I dont think Rooney's form is MUCH greater than RVP, Chelsea going to be very weak at CB this weekend, and have tired legs from the Barca game. I can see RVP grabbing a couple, whereas Rooney, with the exception of his 2nd goal, only really scores penalties...Plus never scored against Everton at OT.

Hmmm.. you make a good point! I didn't think about the extra games Chelsea have. Argh, I've got the same decision to make, minus the mclean>hba though as I've got 3 newcastle players.

I'm an Arsenal Fan and I'm trying not to be bias 😛

We could always go for option B and keep RVP/Rooney to save the transfer for DGW players. Does feel a bit kneejerky to get Tevez for essentially one game.

But I suspect the fear of not having Tevez vs WOL will get the better of me in the end!

lol I'm the same! I'm a UTD fan and did the unthinkable by taking Rooney out for Tevez yesterday and leaving in RVP.

I think/hope he will get at least a goal and assist, if not more... Most don't have him, so great differential. I took Rooney out because most of the people chasing me have Rooney and not RVP. Just depends on your situation.

You look nicely set up for GW 36 😀

                I you've suaded me, I'm leaning towards RVP>Tevez now, mainly because I just checked and Chelsea have;
                Wed 18th Barca
                Sat 21st Arsenal
                Tue 24th Barca!!

I'm 15pts from my mini league leader so it's all to play for. As it's very close I feel I don't need to take crazy risks, but Tevez might just be a pretty good shout. He's got a very similar team to me so we are both set up for gw36 nicely 😛

Sorry, I was suposed to help you in your decision and you've ended up helping me lol
                cheers!

lets summarize the issue bothering everyone by a nice friendly poll:

    A roony > aguero
    B roony > tevez
    C RVP > aguero
    D RVP > tevez

rules of the game are simple - assume you have both rooni and RVP (and your third striker is cisse for example), and assume you dont have any significant city coverage (maybe company or yaya, but no strong striker) - also assume money is no issue.
    now pick an option.
i think this poll will help many people here.

        Why Rooney over RVP?
Surely Rooney has much better form. RVP probably has the slight edge on fixtures but not enough to warrant a descision change.

If you want tevez or agureo and you have roo and rvp surly it has to be rvp to go! Yes? I know vp got 3 the last time they played but that was with AVB in charge and chelsea where sh1t. Plus is roo doing that bad? Last game He scored 2 and granted he miss a few chances but at least he got into goal scoring positions.

The trouble I'm having deciding transfers for 36 is fielding a good side for 37/38

-Benching Walcott Sagna for NOR wba
-Newcastle have MCY eve so my transfer for 37 will be to offload him, this rules Barfa out for me
-Want Bale VDV and Ade for what should be high scoring games against BLA bol but would that be too much against avl FUL in a single GW?
-Everton have wol NEW so will probably have 2 of Baines Pienaar Jelavic
-Dempsey has SUN tot which is average
-Chelsea have way too many games so Im steering clear

What are peoples thoughts on 37/38 with regard to 36, planned your strategy already?

I am having the Spurs 'Holy Trinity' too. TBH they have alot to play for and could easy score well against a leaky Villa defence and also a Fulham defence that isnt the best away.

Im having Cisse and then just replacing him with Aguero.

I like it. Im using my GW37 transfer for Cisse to Aguero (mainly with Agueros GW38 fixt in mind) so that I can use the GW38 transfer to get Lampard/Mata in for Dempsey.

Ars-NOR could be a big scoring game, so i am loathe to get rid of RVP and Walcott

I like the look of Jelavic but he is just on loan isnt he so if they dont have much to play for then he may get rotated at the end of the season (poss same with Ade although SPurs will prob push hard the whole way)
