Having hoovered up 13 goals and nine assists from the Spurs midfield last season, Rafael Van der Vaart placed himself firmly in the heavy-hitter bracket. Spot-kicks and set-piece delivery, coupled with a goal threat that few, if any, midfielders can better, he delivers a package that warrants a hefty outlay. Predictably, however, the Dutchman has failed to maintain the consistency demanded of a player with an initial price tag of 10.0 this term.

Van der Vaart’s dairylea hamstrings are the concern. Once again his season has been blighted by twinges and twangs, with constant reoccurrences disrupting his pitch-time, along with more recent calf and ankle injuries. Subsequently, his campaign has been limited to 24 starts: a chain of 11 appearances being his best run of games. Harry Redknapp also appears to remain skeptical on Van der Vaart’s fitness, having subbed him off on 16 occasions so far this term.

Therein lies the problem. Van der Vaart would seem set to start both of Tottenham’s Gameweek 36 fixtures with relegation threatened Blackburn and Bolton, but is unlikely to record 90 minutes in both. Nonetheless, from his support role alongside the awkward talents of Emmanuel Adebayor, Van der Vaart is well capable of inflicting damage and fetching returns given an hour on the pitch.

Having delivered six double figure hauls already this season, including four in five Gameweeks in a chain of 53 points in October, Van der Vaart’s potential to explode is obvious. Few midfielders can rival that and, looking at the fixtures, in addition to Tottenham’s undoubted motivation to attack and score goals as they pursue a Champions League slot, everything falls into place.

With Fantasy Premier League (FPL) ownership of under 6%, the Dutchman also qualifies as an unlikely differential. Just the ticket for those looking to bridge a seemingly impossible mini-league deficit. If Tottenham do overcome their current malaise over their remaining matches, Van der Vaart could well prove to be the catalyst.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Anybody going Jelavic over Cisse? Too risky?

I have no other Newcastle striker? Could do Tevez -> Jelavic for ans additional 4 point hit (8)

      i'm going with:

Cisse - on form and should return something
RvP - it's RvP! can see him hitting some form against a dodgy STO (yes, even away)
Tevez - former club. derby game. title decider?

I currently have RVP & Tevez, my big problem is whether to turn Yak into Jelavic OR Cisse..

Or of course Yak & Tevez -> Cisse & Jelavic..

But do I really want to lose a top striker bidding to win the title or a striker with nothing left to play for!?

Anyone have any idea about Mata?  Is he likely to play both games do we think?  Seems to me he’s a prime candidate for not getting 180 minutes with his importance to the side and two huge finals coming up – this thinking is making me hesitate to bring him in.

If you want talking round, you could take the angle that it's not all about DGWs. Mata might only get one game in 36 but he'll probably play 37 & 38 and would be a good shout for those games, given his/Chelsea's form.

Get Mata mate. Out of any of the chelsea players he's likely to play more after being rested vs arsenal and taken off after 57 minutes vs barcelona. I'm thinking about giving him the armband.

I'm sticking my neck out and saying he def will. If anything he'll be taken off early, I just can't see RDM not fielding strong a team as poss for the newcastle game. If the fixtures had of been the other way around I'd have been a lot more worried.

I'd immagine that he will only play one of the 2 anyway, even if he is fit for Saturday.

There's no reason why Jol will play the same team 2 games in a row. He'll surely want to spread the game-time out and avoid silly injuries and give everyone a chance before the end of the season.

If I take -8pt hit, I can have this:

    (Vorm) Friedel
    TERRY Verm (Evans) REAM (Rangel)
    BALE (Valencia) DEMPS Sigurdsson BARFA
    JELAVIC, rvp, CISSE

..getting Terry and Dempsey in for Turner and Tevez. But I'm not chasing: got a 60pt ML lead. So is Terry overkill? Be happier with just the 4pt hit really, just can't decide Terry or Demps...

...or is there an even better option?

a 4 point hit for a player who will return 2 points is way too risky at this stage of the season.

Well, with a team name like Sevilla Thrush I don't think you should be criticising people for mincing about 😉

    Jelavic or Cisse?

Rival has neither (so far anyway)

I have no Newcastle or Everton cover..

Do I risk not going Cisse AGAIN or just give in..

Sorry for all the questions, I'm very confused right now 🙂

      I have gone for both.

Personally I think they're the best options up front out of the dgw players.

Tis a tricky one Viper. Jelavic's fixture v Wolves in 37 might just swing it for me. 'Might'.

I would go Jelavic soley on the basis that he is more playable in 37.

I have both, with enough cash to spare to shift Cisse to Rooney in 37.

it will be, but I think Rooney and RvP are must-haves in 37, and Jelavic has a nicer fixture than Cisse

I have missed out on all of Cisse's points 🙁

I could do Tevez -> Cisse for an additional 4 point hit and have both but i'm not sure I want to drop a world class striker bidding for the title against his old club!

I doubt if Cahill will be fit for this weekend, hamstrings are a very unpredictable beast. I would wait until we have more news. Same with Luis!

    Any Everton fans about?

Wondering if Jags is likely to start both games. I know for sure that Distin is nailed on to play both, but Jags appears to have more attacking threat and there is virtually no difference in price. Not sure I want to get on board the Hibbert mobile so just wondering who my best bet is.

My bro is a huge fan (goes to most games) and a while ago he told me that Jags is not well liked by fans or Moyes and that Hibbert can sometimes be rotated with Neville. He said Distin is best bet. This was all before Baines injury though, which probably changes things a bit.

To be honest, it's a very long time since Jags scored and with the Everton attack looking so much better since January transfers, I wouldn't expect them to rely on supplementing with defensive attack anymore. For that reason, I'd just go with Distin.

    Bogdan
    Enrique Simpson Turner McAuley
    Bale(v) Sig Pienaar
    Cisse(c) RVP Tevez
    Subs:Vorm McLean Valencia Evans

Worth any hits? If so what would you look at?

Had VDV in my team for the Spurs/Everton DGW in GW20 when Spurs were in arguably better form and he amassed a pretty disappointing 9 points over 180 mins of football. Also had Jagielka and he came off injured during the 1st half of his 1st game of the week! My point - lightning won't strike twice so get them both in!! 🙂

I'm playing Evans instead of BAE.
I can see a return there from him, an assist or a goal or even a clean sheet...you never know.
