Papiss Cisse steals the show with a pair of outrageous finishes at the Bridge. Alan Pardew opts for a 4-4-2 as Newcastle pick up yet another clean sheet, while Chelsea taste defeat at home for the first time under Roberto Di Matteo. Emmanuel Adebayor bags a brace at Bolton, with Rafael Van der Vaart and Gareth Bale both getting amongst the points, as Spurs deliver a huge blow to the Trotters’ survival hopes:

Papiss Cisse
Having twice hit the woodwork at Wigan last weekend, the Newcastle forward returned to goalscoring ways in sensational style at the Bridge last night. Partnered by Demba Ba up top in a switch to 4-4-2, Cisse grabbed two goals of the highest quality as Alan Pardew’s side picked up their seventh win in the last eight to boost their chances of a fourth place finish. Cisse has now scored 13 times in just 12 appearances since moving to Tyneside in January and, with a pair of assists and 20 bonus points also thrown in for good measure, has averaged a sensational 8.4 points per game thus far, way ahead of second placed Robin Van Persie’s 7.0. The transfers in will continue to roll, although Cisse’s final two games are far from straightforward – City arrive on Sunday having returned three clean sheets in four, while a Gameweek 38 trip to Goodison could prove tricky; Everton have picked up seven clean sheets in their last eight at home.

Newcastle Defence
With Danny Simpson missing out for the first time this season, James Perch slotted into the right-back role last night. Bearing in mind that Chelsea had hit six past QPR on Sunday and Newcastle had been thrashed 4-0 at Wigan, an away clean sheet was perhaps unexpected, but the Magpies once again excelled at the back, returning their sixth clean sheet in the last eight Gameweeks. Pardew’s side now welcome Man City to the Sports Direct Arena on Sunday and, given the Magpies’ form at both ends of the pitch, Roberto Mancini’s men will need to deliver a big performance if they are to remain on course for the title.

Rafael Van der Vaart
The Dutchman picked up where he left off against Blackburn on Sunday as Spurs swept aside Bolton at the Reebok. Van der Vaart had grabbed a goal and a couple of bonus points at the Lane in the first match of his double Gameweek and followed that up with a goal, an assist and X bonus points last night. After a barren winter period, he’s been a crucial part on Spurs’ push for fourth with three goals in his last seven starts– with a trip to Villa up next before a home game against Fulham to see out the season, Van der Vaart looks in the mood to rack up more points before the campaign comes to a close.

Gareth Bale
While his goalless streak may have extended to 12 games last night, Bale picked up a couple of assists against the Trotters. With an assist also provided against Blackburn, the Welshman returned a respectable 14 point score for his Fantasy owners over the double Gameweek. Bale has now closed the gap on Clint Dempsey at the top of the midfield rankings; he’s now just 11 points behind the Fulham man and, with those above-mentioned fixtures to follow, is afforded a chance to perhaps overtake Dempsey as the pair go head to head at the Lane in Gameweek 38.

Emmanuel Adebayor
There’s no doubt the on-loan forward can be a frustrating Fantasy option. Adebayor arrived at the Reebok having scored in just one of the previous nine Gameweeks but found his scoring touch to grab a couple of goals against Owen Coyle’s strugglers. The fourth top scoring forward to date this term, he’s still owned by less than 10% of Fantasy managers despite the fact that Adebayor, with 15 goals and 12 assists, has had a hand in more goals for Harry Redknapp’s side than any other player.

On the theme of Evans replacements.

I've come up with an exclusive 20 pt plus club for defenders who have scored more than 20pts over the last four gameweeks.

Here they are (cue Top of the Pops music..na,na,na,na,naa...etc.)

Joint. 5. Ridgewell, Verm, Santon 22 pts
    4.Hibberts 23 pts
    3.Boyce 25 pts
    2.Kompany 28 pts

...and in first place is .....

    1.Clichy 29pts

Clichy's lack of nailed on ness for both remaining games shifts the onus onto Kompany for me...but Newcastle is a tricky fixture....which brings me onto no. 3.....oh, hang on a minute who's that? Why if it isn't Emmerson Boyce and he's only 4.3m.

No. Play those ones...worth saving the transfer in your situation.

I also have BAE and Simpson and was happy to play Kelly (the fulham one), Evans and Verm...with Evans out I have no choice but to find a replacement for BAE....have 6.6m to spend, one shy of Kompany and Emmerson is reaching out to me from the north.

1,2.City defenders look like the best options, but I just cant bring them in. I really dont want to see them win the league, so I just cant 😀
3 You should check out Boyces stats 0.6 shots per game and 0.4 assists per game. One has to think that the recent scoring form is a fluke, but I must say wigan are a good shout for a cleanie at least against Wolves at home.
      4. Probably the safe option, but if they concede away this week than hoping for a cleanie against NEW will be a lot to ask.
      5. Personally think of going for Verm, the potential seems huge 😀

Which option would you reccommend, personally I think it looks like Clichy is the best.

I already have Verm and he just missed out on my 20pt club, but yes, naturally he is the best defender to have if money is no object. I love the last 20mins of Arsenal games these days where he is playing along side RVP trying to shoot at every opportunity. Remarkable player.

Having a bit of a tevez conundrum

He hasn't exploded like I thought he would (was convinced he'd rip Fergie a new one on Monday, bah) and what with Cisse putting two special uns past Chelsea last night I dunno whether to follow form or fixtures

Fixtures says RVP in for Cisse (leaving me RVP, Jelavic & Tevez)
Form says RVP in for Tevez (leaving me Cisse, Jelavic & RVP)

Last GW looks nice for Tevez, I know, but ..........................would you bring RVP in for Cisse or Tevez?

PS: I'm not going for Rooney as he has looked a right mardy cow against City, and I don't trust him to not self destruct. No logic, just gut

I was all set to get rid of him for Rooney but my defense is ravage so I have to prioritise that. I too am pretty annoyed that he hasn't done much since I got him in.

If you can get Tevez in last Gameweek, then do Tevez>RVP.

So VDV turned out to be the best (c) choice overall. He must have had a hamstring transplant.

Yep, I just wasn't brave enough - bringing him in for a 4pt hit was risk enough for me. I am happy enough with my Jelly (c) points.

Not that you guys care or anything, but my MLS captain for the gameweek, Chris Wondolowski popped up with a brace last night. Good fantasy night all round for me.

Is Evans 100% out against Swansea then (haven't seen any news on it either way)? Or are people just erring on the side of caution? Cheers

Instead of transferring out Evans for a defender, I'm thinking of simply doing Sess->Moses for a 4pt. I think the no hit rule applies for a defender again as it seems to be the only way I will recover a 4pt hit.

ok folks so the Evans news combined with Cisse re-writing the laws of physics has left me in a real bind this week. Would appreciate some help

    De Gea

    Evans, Verm, Jags

    Bale, VdV, Dempsey, Siggy

    Jelly, RvP (c), Cisse

    Mingolet, McClean, Santon, Caulker

    6.4 in bank

Do I play Santon and hope for the best, do I use my transfer to maybe shift Caulker and get a playable defender in, do I take a 4 pointer and do that and draft Nani in?

Now, I may be in the minority here.. But who thinks Cisse’s first goal was better than the second?

He controlled the ball superbly and put it exactly where he wanted it - Exquisite. The second? Don’t get me wrong, it was a superb hit, but it sat up perfectly for him and could have gone anywhere. He was knackered as well! It could easily have gone out or straight to Cech where Chelsea could have lumped forward for one last attack.

Am 9 points ahead in my closest M/L pre bonus - opp captained VDV I capt Bale so will prob be even closer

    My front 8 are
    Demps VDV Bale Valencia (Siggy)
    Cisse Torres Jelly

    His are
    VDV Demps Bales HBA Siggy
    Jelly Cisse RVP

Do I just take the F/T Torres > RVP to cover his front 3 or consider a hit to Rooney - also think 2 Tot Mids is too much was considering getting Moses in

Sensible to hold on to what I've got??
