Liverpool avenge their FA Cup Final defeat with a 4-1 thrashing of Chelsea. Ramires spoils the home side’s clean sheet, while Daniel Agger and Jonjo Shelvey grab their first goals of the season against a much-changed Blues side, with rotation clearly a major part of Roberto Di Matteo’s thinking ahead of the Champions League Final.

Daniel Agger
The Dane returned to league action last night, having been rested for the previous game against Fulham. With Jamie Carragher slotting in alongside Martin Skrtel in the heart of defence, Agger took his place at left-back, as Jose Enrique dropped out. Agger continued his recent upturn in attacking threat by grabbing his first goal of the season in the 4-1 thrashing – the 5.8 priced defender has also contributed a couple of assists in his last five, compared to just a single assist over his first 21 appearances.

Liverpool Midfield
Kenny Dalglish sprung a surprise by leaving Steven Gerrard out of the squad entirely for the Blues showdown. A look at the results, though, shows the Liverpool skipper has been far from inspirational – the Reds have won just two of the 12 games he has started this term. Instead, Jonjo Shelvey and Jordan Henderson were handed the central midfield roles and the pair took advantage of an under-par and under-strength Chelsea by grabbing a goal apiece. Maxi – in his fourth start in the last five – provided an assist, while Stewart Downing was afforded the perfect opportunity to break his scoring duck when the hosts were awarded a penalty. Given the season he has had, however, it was no surprise to see his strike hit the post.

Luis Suarez
An assist for Michael Essien’s own goal maintained Suarez’s strong end to the season at Anfield. After disappointing for much of the campaign, he has now produced attacking returns in four of his last five home appearances and, with a hat-trick on his last game on the road, the Uruguayan will be in confident mood as Liverpool head to Swansea on Sunday – Brendan Rodgers’ side have picked up just one clean sheet in the last eight Gameweeks. Last night also saw Andy Carroll grab an assist – incredibly, this was the first time this season that both forwards have picked up attacking points in the same home game, with the only other occasions occurring in Gameweeks 7 and 10, away to Everton and West Brom respectively.

Chelsea Rotation Hits Hard
A look at last night’s team sheet highlighted just how much Roberto Di Matteo is willing to rest and rotate many of his first-choice players ahead of the Champions League Final. Only three of the starting XI who won the FA Cup Final against Liverpool on Saturday remained in the line-up; John Terry, Branislav Ivanovic and Ramires – no coincidence that the trio are all suspended for the game against Bayern later this month.

While Ramires grabbed a consolation to scupper the Liverpool clean sheet, the dire Anfield display will surely make Di Matteo think twice over sending out a similar side against Blackburn on Sunday. A home game against the relegated Lancashire outfit looks potentially prosperous for the likes of Juan Mata, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba, though whether the interim Blues boss is willing to take a risk, with their Allianz Arena game six days later, is perhaps doubtful. Mata’s 8.9% of Fantasy owners will be particularly worried – he has started only one of the last five now, though still had enough time to provide four assists in 66 minutes against QPR in Gameweek 36.

Some help required please - chasing 14 pts for 1st place.

    Current line-up:

    Vorm
    Verm, Kelly, Huth
    Sig, VDV, Dempsey, Valencia
    Cisse, Rooney, Suarez

Mignolet, Miyaichi, Evans, Simpson - 0.6 in bank

    His line up:

    Bogdan, Vorm
    Simpson, Verm, Walker, Baines, Cahill
Ben arfa, Bale, Sig, Petrov, Silva
Cisse, Jelavic, Rooney - 3.2 in the bank

I was thinking to take a 4 pt hit and get Toure/Aguero in for Dempsey and Suarez.

    Any thoughts?

Moyes and Jelavic don't do "nothing to play for", and it's wrong anyway, they need to win to finish ahead of Liverpool.
Everton have only conceded 14 goals at home all season, that's second best to Man City's 10.
Based on that, get rid of Cisse and keep Jelavic.

Oh well. 60 points doesn't seem too bad.

I'm top of all my leagues bar the one, where i'm 17 points behind. I'm only 15 points clear in one of my leagues though so not sure to take any gambles. I'm considering something like Dempsey > Moses and Jelavic > Aguero so i can keep RvP and Adebayor.

Looks fine to me, I don't think the hit is a good idea, I would consider playing schwarzer though - despite this going against my standard "play the home guy" mantra. I can't see Utd not scoring, but Fulham have been much better defensively on the road than their reputation suggests, and Spurs could cock this game up.

OK. He has kept excellently for us this year, while the back four have made many, many mistakes, Tomkins being a particular disappointment to me. Moreover, his taking of crosses has improved, although there is still work to be done in this area.

The problem is that Hart is World Class, by any standards, imo.

What do people think is roughly the most realistic total to make up if chasing a mini league rival this final GW, given the similar teams people are likely to have?

30 points if captain choices work in your favour?

30 points is a tough ask, but the final GW can feature some very silly scorelines so it's do-able. I have lost a 30 point minileague lead on the last day.

I'm in second, 12 behind first, 3 ahead of third. The guy ahead of me has Aguero, the guy behind has RVP, I have neither. Its not looking good right?

I just lost a 41 point lead this week so 30 points is very do-able. It just depends on captain choice and your players performing over his. Now I have to concentrate on winning my mini-league from behind.

All depends just how different your teams are. Very similar, and not a lot. Probably only a big captain difference will do. But if you've mostly different teams I still think 30 or so can be done, but, again, you'll probably need a big difference in captain scores.

      30 is unlikely, but there's a chance!

After RDM played Turnbull yesterday, is there any chance he'll play Hilario for the Blackburn game? I've had him as my 'sub' keeper for months, and it'd top my season off if I managed to get some points off him 😀

Just spotted the slightly odd rules for McDonalds Euro FF. You can change your captain *during* the round?

So am I right in thinking that the best tactic is to pick a captain who plays the first day of the round, see how he gets on and then make a stick or twist decision on whether to try a player who plays the next day? Repeat each day until the round is finished?

On the potential line up for england in the euros on the previous page, a few of you were suggesting Danny Welbeck in the starting 11!! Is this for real? Whenever I have seen him play is has missed a load of sitters and fallen over a lot. 9 goals and 5 assists while playing up front for man utd is a terrible return. I know that we are scraping the barrel in terms of strikers, but we surely must be able to do better than danny wellbeck!!

NB The only thing making me question my thinking is the fact that ferguson has shown so much faith in him. Have I been missing something?

His link up play is generally good or very good.

We don't really have many other options tbh and he's better than Sturridge.

China, you know I respect your opinion, but this is nonsense.

Welbeck has been one of the, if not the, stand-out performers this year, and Sir Alex has said that in terms. Who am I to disagree with him?

I'm happy to listen to other people's opinions. I haven't watched that many man utd games this year, so his misses and falling over might just have been on his bad days.

Good link up play is all well and good, if we have rooney playing in the attacking midfield/support striker role. But if he is the main striker with a gerrard or lampard behind him, them we need somebody who is capable of scoring more than 9 goals in a whole season for man utd!!

RVP, Rooney and Cisse. My current front line since GW31.

I am beginning to feel somewhat isolated in having no plans to change them for this week either.
Despite them all having away games, they all still have a lot to fight for, I don't see SAF saying "OK Lads it's all over just enjoy yourselves"
RVP's away record is good and Cisse has proved he can score anywhere and has the highest ten week average.
I have Yaya in midfield and two transfers to tidy the defence with cash from a midfield downgrade.

Have I missed something obvious to many others?

I'm just going for Aguero for a couple of reasons..

      - I think Aguero could have a field day, I don't see Rooney producing similiar scores.

      - My rival who I trail owns Rooney so he is of no benefit to me in terms of catching him.

RVP & Cisse are fine imo although Everton concede very few at home..

I agree with your analysis, and currently I have the same front line. What is swaying me towards Rooney to Aguero is the fact that Aguero seems the most obvious captaincy choice this week, Rooney could also do well but Aguero just looks like the safer bet and I currently have no City players.

Why do people seem to think that if players have nothing to play for, they are less likely to try?

Most players are selfish and will want to increase their goal tallies etc. if they can at all with no pressure on them to HAVE to produce..

Just the way I see it especially for strikers, it doesn't matter when, where & why it is, they want to put the ball in the net 😀

It may be a different case for defenders but I don't think it effects strikers/midfielders.. I'm sure some will disagree
