Liverpool avenge their FA Cup Final defeat with a 4-1 thrashing of Chelsea. Ramires spoils the home side’s clean sheet, while Daniel Agger and Jonjo Shelvey grab their first goals of the season against a much-changed Blues side, with rotation clearly a major part of Roberto Di Matteo’s thinking ahead of the Champions League Final.

Daniel Agger
The Dane returned to league action last night, having been rested for the previous game against Fulham. With Jamie Carragher slotting in alongside Martin Skrtel in the heart of defence, Agger took his place at left-back, as Jose Enrique dropped out. Agger continued his recent upturn in attacking threat by grabbing his first goal of the season in the 4-1 thrashing – the 5.8 priced defender has also contributed a couple of assists in his last five, compared to just a single assist over his first 21 appearances.

Liverpool Midfield
Kenny Dalglish sprung a surprise by leaving Steven Gerrard out of the squad entirely for the Blues showdown. A look at the results, though, shows the Liverpool skipper has been far from inspirational – the Reds have won just two of the 12 games he has started this term. Instead, Jonjo Shelvey and Jordan Henderson were handed the central midfield roles and the pair took advantage of an under-par and under-strength Chelsea by grabbing a goal apiece. Maxi – in his fourth start in the last five – provided an assist, while Stewart Downing was afforded the perfect opportunity to break his scoring duck when the hosts were awarded a penalty. Given the season he has had, however, it was no surprise to see his strike hit the post.

Luis Suarez
An assist for Michael Essien’s own goal maintained Suarez’s strong end to the season at Anfield. After disappointing for much of the campaign, he has now produced attacking returns in four of his last five home appearances and, with a hat-trick on his last game on the road, the Uruguayan will be in confident mood as Liverpool head to Swansea on Sunday – Brendan Rodgers’ side have picked up just one clean sheet in the last eight Gameweeks. Last night also saw Andy Carroll grab an assist – incredibly, this was the first time this season that both forwards have picked up attacking points in the same home game, with the only other occasions occurring in Gameweeks 7 and 10, away to Everton and West Brom respectively.

Chelsea Rotation Hits Hard
A look at last night’s team sheet highlighted just how much Roberto Di Matteo is willing to rest and rotate many of his first-choice players ahead of the Champions League Final. Only three of the starting XI who won the FA Cup Final against Liverpool on Saturday remained in the line-up; John Terry, Branislav Ivanovic and Ramires – no coincidence that the trio are all suspended for the game against Bayern later this month.

While Ramires grabbed a consolation to scupper the Liverpool clean sheet, the dire Anfield display will surely make Di Matteo think twice over sending out a similar side against Blackburn on Sunday. A home game against the relegated Lancashire outfit looks potentially prosperous for the likes of Juan Mata, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba, though whether the interim Blues boss is willing to take a risk, with their Allianz Arena game six days later, is perhaps doubtful. Mata’s 8.9% of Fantasy owners will be particularly worried – he has started only one of the last five now, though still had enough time to provide four assists in 66 minutes against QPR in Gameweek 36.

My final shot at making up a 31 point deficit. Using Aguero (c) + Rooney as my differential to his RVP + Cisse.

    Quick question good sirs:

    a) Play Valencia or Dempsey
    b) Dempsey > Silva (-4) and play him ahead of Valencia.

Which option of the 2 would you do? (a) or (b) ?

Hmm.. I'm tempted by Dempsey too. My rival has him, so maybe to cover that. But I need to be taking a few risks no. He doesn't have Valencia, so I might play him.

No Silva love for a hit?

    Hi guys,

Just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who's helped me out this season.

This is my first time playing FF and my scores definitely became more consistent after I joined here; I just wish I'd found this place sooner!

Anyway - bring on next season!

it's a tricky one. RDM will want to get him up the match pace, but he really cant afford an injury.

Narrowed decisions down to just the 3 options now I think… You gut reaction would be appreciated:
    a) Valencia & Cisse -> Maloney & Aguero (bench Dempsey + leaves awful defence!)
    b) Dempsey & Cisse -> Moses & Aguero (as above)
    c) Evans & Rooney -> Clichy & Aguero (bench Valencia or Demps)

Biggest problem of first round is that potentially the most explosive game is on the last day. Sweden Vs Ukraine who are crap anyway and now are without first choice keeper and turning to rookies. It will be hard not to gamble captaincy on Ibrahimovic.

Assume that you are at the pub watching the last games on Sunday. Now assume that you are watching with your mini league rival (he leads by 14 points).

What would make for a more enjoyable 90 minute experience?

    a) having Aguero (c) as your captain (copying your mini league rival) and hoping that your differentials (I don't have that many) can close the gap?
    b) Captaining Rooney/Silva (my differentials) and hoping that somehow Aguero draws a blank.

First to 5 determines my transfer.

    Thanks

It would require Siggy/Jelly/Dempsey to outscore Bale/Valencia/Torres by 14 points essentially.
Very unlikely, BUT is it more unlikely than Aguero not registering a huge score against QPR and making everything else pointless.

Hmmm. Tricky. For 20+ points of a difference the rule is Don't copy your rivals (c) if you want to make up a differential.
However 14 is possible to makeup from elsewhere but definitely much easier with a different captain.
I would captain Silva and take that risk or else one from (VDV, Ade, Nasri, Tevez, Moses).

Hi currently 14pts behind leader going into the last gmwk.

My squad at the moment is as follows

        Mignolet krul

        Caulker evans vermaelen turner skrtel

        Dempsey siggurdson vdv bale Valencia

        Rooney jelavic rvp

1ft and 0.0m in the bank

        His squad is as follows:

        Bogdan mignolet

        Williamson Enrique Kompany koscielny caulker

        Valencia petrov bale pienaar cabaye

        Aguero rvp rooney

        1ft 0.0m in the bank

So how is the best way to make up the 15pt lead?

Do I take out rooney for ageuro and make him captain which I think he will and hope the rest of my team can make the points up?

Or do I take a risk on someone like torres as captain hoping he can be a differential and score a hattrick?

Iv also played some mind games to my opponent and told him I will put in aguero to cancel him out but put someone else in to make captain. In doing this I hope he gets put off of makin ageuro captain.

Your ideas and thoughts would be appreiciated. He is already bragging and its doing my nut in!!!!

You have similar scenario to me (14 points), he has Aguero(c). I am also torn re what to do. However, my team is a lot more similar to my rivals than yours.
In your case you could make up the 14 points from differentials, so copying Aguero (c) might be the best option.
Having said that, you do have a good captain differential if you decide not to get in Aguero; VDV could easily bring home the bacon.
The question is, if you do not choose aguero then where do you use your FT to maximise points? Midfield is the best place to look, but it seems like you cannot afford Silva/Mata/Nasri - so I am not sure.
Torres could be an option, but I would be very careful because there is a good chance he may not start.
Defence you could also use the FT, but again you do not have funds to bring in a city/chelsea defender, so am not sure it works there either.
I think in your situation I would be tempted to captain VDV and leave out Aguero and use FT somewhere else. Problem is you do not have the funds to make the FT count elsewhere, so I might then do the Aguero (c) switch and play your differentials in midfield (i.e bench one of Bale/Valencia).
You could easily do it either way though and win.

          I would do the following:

          Rooney > Papiss Cisse (FT)
          Turner > Kompany (-4)
          Krul > Hart (-4)

          and play the following team:

          Hart (H)
Caulker (H), Evans, Vermaelen, Kompany (H)
          Siggurdson (H), VdV (H), Bale (H)
          Van Persie, Cisse, Jelavic (H)

          Here's my thinking:

City must win to clinch the EPL. I am betting on a CS from them, therefore the additions of Kompany and Hart.

I like the CS chances of Caulker, Evans and Vermaelen.

Siggurdson, VdV and Bale are all at home, so I hope they can score.
I chose Van Persie over Rooney simply for the fact that West Brom defense is not as good as Sunderland's. If I am wrong on that fact, then keep Rooney and ship Van Persie. Cisse is self explanatory and Jelavic is playing at home.

          (C) I'll let you make that decision.

          SCORING POTENTIAL:

          Deficit (-14) + 2 Transfers (-8) = -22 behind leader

Hart & Kompany get (CS) = 12 pts.
Let's say we get one more (CS) from the other three defenders: 6 pts.

          -22 points + 18 = -4 (deficit)

Now, can your midfield and forwards along with your choice of (C) score enough to overcome the 4 point deficit? I think it is quite possible.

Just thinking outside the box. Good luck.

    Vorm
    Evra / Taiwo / Vermaelen
Pienaar / Sigurdsson / Dempsey / Van der Vaart /
Van Persie / Cisse / Jelavic

    Schwarzer / Ben Arfa / Evans J / Simpson

    1FT / 3.4m in bank

My current team for upcoming GW, only 1 player on the bench is a bit worrying. I'm 31 points ahead in mini league but am willing to take a hit for the right move.

    Any suggestions?

Have a 4 point lead over my rival heading into this last week! Would really appreciate some help folks! 🙂

    Friedel
    Evra, Turner, Verm
    Siggy, Valencia, VDV, Pienaar
    Rooney, Aguero (C), Jellyfish

    Subs: Vorm, Demps, Shotton, Simpson

The players he has that I'm worried about are Mata, Kompany and Lescott.

Any move I make would be a 4 point hit as I've already brought in Aguero.

Would Simpson > Kompany be worth a -4 to play him ahead of Turner?

Tough decision, cheers all for any feednack 🙂

I know, you have a very good point, it was an attacking team on paper. But Silva, Nasri and Tevez did a lot of chasing back, and Yaya was a CDM for most of it until Mancini brought on De Jong (another defensive move) They didn't go all out against Wolves either, Mancini doesn't want to be caught on the break.
I just see it being 2-0, 3-0 at the most. Could well be wrong though, QPR do suck

They did track back but all attacking teams do, it would be suicidal not too. Agree that he did make defensive substitutions. I would say they went attacking against Wolves despite the score, they cut through their defence multiple times. Theirs no chance Mancini wont put out an attacking side against QPR, their bloody rubbish.

i.e. Harte, Zab, Les, Kom, Clichy, Barry, Yaya, Nasri, Silva, Aguero, Tevez.
Then in the 63rd minute De Jong will come on for one of the 4 attacking players and Yaya will push forward.

Its actually weird how looking forward I am to the weekend!

Will be out for beer most of saturday and spend the sunday recovering watching the footie bonanza!

Hopefully the last gwk doesn't leave a bad taste in my mouth now..

Chelsea have always served me well on the final day so i'm thinking Lampard could be that guy this year 😛

    FFS Champions League:

After 12 hectic, animated, tumultous, melodramatic, stimulating, frenetic (and the list could go on....) Matchdays, we have our final TWO teams!

    GRAND FINALE:
    Fratboy (Marseille) vs ENR (Chelsea)

3rd place Playoff: ColeHole (BATE) vs Sleep Talk (Viktoria Plzen)

Also as scheduled we will have the Super Cup in GW1 next season with the winner of CL clashing with the winner of the Europa!

Support your team wisely! This ain't no democracy 😉

Ho hum. Another day, another whimsical look at my team.

Wanted to make some big flair moves to give GW38 a good send off but also want to keep it tight and crack the top 5k:

    1FT) JEvans > Clichy
    2FT) Jelavic > Aguero

    Krul
    Verm, Kaboul, Clichy
    Bale, Valencia, Siggy, Demps/Pienaar
    RvP, PCisse, Aguero

    Mig, Demps/Pienaar, Caulker, McAuley.

    Too safe?
