Earlier this afternoon, Spurs confirmed they have reached agreement with Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim for the transfer of Gylfi Sigurdsson. The news comes just one day after announcing the arrival of Andre Villas-Boas as new Head Coach and represents an intriguing piece of business for Fantasy managers ahead of the upcoming season:

The Icelandic star had excelled during his loan spell at Swansea last term – arriving in January, Sigurdsson had thrived in Brendan Rodgers’ 4-3-3 and ended the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) campaign with an average of 5.7 points per game; the highest of any midfielder. Many had expected him to follow Rodgers to Liverpool but Spurs have beaten the Reds to the punch and backed up the claims of Chairman Daniel Levy, who only yesterday stated:

It is important that we now look to develop the potential within the squads at all levels, whilst strengthening the First Team in the summer in key positions with players who will become part of the future success of the Club.

While doubts remain over the future of Luka Modric under the new regime, the Sigurdsson move presents Fantasy managers with a real quandary for the season ahead. The new boy now gives us a third viable contender to consider in the Tottenham midfield, with Gareth Bale and Rafael Van der Vaart both proven Fantasy forces. Sigurdsson is likely to be the least costly of the three, though, suggesting he may well prove the most popular but, with Villas-Boas’ side facing (WBA, NOR, rdg, QPR) between Gameweeks 2-5, many could opt to double up in light of such a favourable opening run.

For now, then, this is just a brief heads-up – we’ll have a further Moving Target article on his prospects to follow tomorrow.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Anyone got any tips from any of the newly promoted teams that they'd like to share? Aside from the hammers options (Noble, Nolan etc) I am not familarised with Soton or Reading players at all.

These two articles should help, by m'colleague Paul. Contains alot of the key players.

I'll be keeping an eye on Reading's penalty taking defender Ian Harte and Southampton's Ricky Lambert (78 goals in 132 starts for the saints) in particular.

I think the difference is that Ebanks was not Wolves main man once in the premiership so didn't get the game time, whereas Lambert will be for Saints. So with more game time and penalties he should be more of a Holt than a Ebanks.

But you are right to be cautious. The Premiership/top flight is littered with the ghosts of lower tier greats who couldn't quite cut it (see Brighton and Notts Forest's Peter Ward).

You'll have plenty of time to check out Southampton players before you would want to have one in your team given their awful staring fixtures.
Pog's move from Fulham maybe worth a cheap third striker?

according to wikipedia Lambert has never missed a penalty...following in a fine tradition of Southampton penalty takers (ie Le Tissier).

possibly...not bad for an entire career of penalty taking. I once saw him turn out for Brighton during Jimmy Case's testimonial. He was still playing for Southampton at the time and was sensational. Could only dream of having him in Brighton colours permanently.

Not deriding his record at all - it's phenomenal. Basically just being a pedantic git and taking up valuable board space.

As a Newcastle fan I have mixed feelings about Le Tissier - staggering talent but why always us? 😉

Fox (Soton) defender on some set pieces and a decent crosser.
Lambert (Soton) top scorer in the championship.
Harte (Read) defender on corners and free kicks, quite old though.
      Federici (Read) decent goalkeeper.
Hunt (Read) striker who works his socks off, younger brother of Wolves and Ireland Int Hunt
Kebe (Read) pacy winger who is brilliant at times and utterly frustrating.

Just wondered who would be the CB pairing between Coloccini, S.Taylor and Will.i.am.son but never realised they were on the verge of signing Douglas.

And I was curious what FPL managers were thinking with regards to Newcastle coverage this time around. Do you think they will be as solid at the back?

        imo:

        1 - Coloccini
        2 - Taylor
        3 - Williamson

If Douglas signs I'd expect him to be fighting Taylor for the second spot.

Only reason we might become leakier is if injuries and fatigue from playing extra games start to take a toll.

Colo will be nailed on. If we get douglas it could be either him of saylor. Probably saylor to begin with if fully fit (he should be). Williamson will be 4th choice if we sign a new centre back. No question about that.

I am wondering about this myself. If we sign debuchy (which is highly possible), then we will have two VERY attacking full backs.

Parmtree or Milanista around? Just going through your rotation spreadsheet. Great stuff. Can't wait for the next installment.

I don't see Swa/Stk on there. That is my favourite current rotation. The best one not involving swansea (I think vorm will be too expensive to rotate, and i'm not sure the swansea defence will be so solid under laudrup), is Stk/ Sun

NB My rotations only use home/away as one part of the analysis.

I did Hart and a cheepie (Vorm) last season, it worked well, as I could then downgrade to the best options once it became obvious that Vorm/Krul was the answer and splash my cash elsewhere.

Not a bad shout if you want City defender as he is the only one who won't be rotated

        I imagine he'll be about £7m though.

Cech and a cheapie for me. Nailed on and DGW coverage right off the bat and cheaper than the likes of JT and Cole.

If Clichy is reasonably priced, I can see him getting some love.

Seeing as how they aren't completely overhauling the site like last year , FPL should be open before the 20th imo.

the latest in recent years it has opened is the 20th, and that was when they changed everything on the site. I expect it to open somewhere between the 15th and the 20th. That's only my opinion though.

Doubt the authority on this statement. But I picked it up from the SKYSPORTS TwitterFeed:

Robin van Persie has announced he will not be extending his contract at Arsenal, with a statement on his official website reading: "I’ve thought long and hard about it, but I have decided not to extend my contract. You guys, the fans, have of course the right to disagree with my view and decision and I will always respect your opinions."

    Things I will do differently this FPL season (part one) ;

I won't use an international break and subsequent double risers to completely dictate the timing of my wildcard. I did this last year around GW12 and broke up what was a very decent squad at the time. Sure, I caught a few risers and increased my team value a bit, but on the other hand I also bought (and sold) Bale just as he began his hot streak.
I didn't achieve any significant rise in rank either, that only happened after my winter wildcard (when my squad genuinely needed an overhaul).
So, lesson learnt...I'll be keeping mine until well into the second half of the season (famous last words) and can hopefully use it wisely when fixture congestion becomes a real issue.
I won't be averse to taking a few early season 4 point hits, if required, to ensure I don't miss out in the money stakes.

I'll need to decide whether I'll have United players in my team this year.
Last year I was in a Man City league that didn't allow united players. Finished 15,000 overall (best rank yet) but not having Johnny f*cking Evans or Rooney killed me some weeks.

The worst part is that I didn't even win the league. Somebody stole first place from me on the last day 🙁

Don't think I'll be going back to that league. Not sure yet though...
