Earlier this afternoon the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) continued to drip feed us Fantasy managers more player prices for the upcoming season via their official twitter feed. Yesterday gave us Eden Hazard (9.5), Ji-Sung Park (6.0) and Pavel Pogrebnyak (5.0) and today we learned the cost of another trio, with the revelations prompting some mixed reaction:

Around quarter to one, the FPL decided to roll out the following information, looking at a couple of last season’s mid-term sensations and United’s brand new purchase from German champions Dortmund:

Here are today’s three player values: Gylfi Sigurdsson (TOT) £9m, Shinji Kagawa (MUN) £8.5m and Papiss Cisse (NEW) £9.5m.

Gylfi Sigurdsson is no longer a cut-price option, then. The Icelandic midfielder will now set you back 9.0 next season following his move to Tottenham – a far cry from his initial cost of 5.0 at Swansea last January. It’s the price of success, really; Sigurdsson ended the season with an average of 5.7 points per game last time round, the highest of any midfielder in the FPL game. This then asks the question of Gareth Bale and Rafael Van der Vaart’s respective new price tags. The Welshman finished as top scorer for Spurs in the 2011/12 campaign with 195 points, while Van der Vaart ended the season strongly and notched 167. Bearing in mind they kicked off last term at 8.0 and 10.0 respectively, we can expect a rise from Bale, while Van der Vaart could well sit around the same valuation. Sigurdsson’s new cost will give Fantasy managers plenty of problems in the Spurs midfield now – grabbing more than one is likely to prove problematic, handing us a real dilemma for the season ahead. Looking at other games, Sky has priced Sigurdsson as the cheapest of the three by some distance; he comes in at 7.3, while Van der Vaart is 8.0 and Bale is by far the priciest at 8.8.

United’s new playmaker Shinji Kagawa comes in at 8.5 in FPL and – even more so than the Spurs situation – is likely to hand us headaches as we ponder the options from a congested midfield area. The summer signing from Dortmund is vying with Antonio Valencia, Nani and Ashley Young for our attention and at that price, there’s every chance he could be the cheapest of the quartet; Nani and Young both started last term priced at 10.0, while Valencia averaged 5.2 points per game after starting at 8.0. If Kagawa can cement a starting role in his preferred position in “the hole”, the new boy could well be the one to watch from United – much depends on the pricing of the other three as to how we view his value. Certainly, in the Sky game Kagawa affords Fantasy managers the cheapest route into United’s midfield; he costs 7.6, in comparison to Valencia’s 7.9, while Young (8.3) and Nani (8.7) are even heftier on the budget.

Papiss Cisse’s goalscoring exploits in the second half of the previous campaign have had a significant impact on his new valuation. The Newcastle man has been slapped with a starting price of 9.5 – up substantially from the 7.0 he came in at last January upon his arrival from Bundesliga outfit SC Freiburg. Looking at the stats, it’s little wonder; Cisse finished the season with an average of 7.5 points per game over his 14 appearances, more than any player in FPL, with Robin Van Persie (7.1) in second spot. Whether in a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2, Cisse racked up the goals, scoring 13 times, in addition to returning a couple of assists and 20 bonus points – if he can even close to maintaining such a level, the price tag still looks more than decent value; depending on the cost of Van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Sergio Aguero, Cisse could well find himself in plenty teams next time round. The Sky game has included Cisse amongst the heavyweights – coming in at 9.3, he’s the seventh priciest forward, with Van Persie top at 10.0.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

i'd say real has 60% and PSG 40% chanses to get modric

According to this morning's Telegraph, The Hammers want a loan, but Fulham were the only club so far prepared to offer to buy him; Milan were also thought to be interested as a possible replacement for Ibrahimovic.

Disagree on their formation and line-up. One thing I'm sure of is that Kagawa won't play CM in a 4-4-2. I also expect Evans and Vidic to be the preferred CB partnership but that's open to debate.

Tomorrow at the earliest, but Monday next week looks quite likely. I wouldn't expect it to be later than next week, unless FPL's testing has unearthed a lot of problems. Sky and Telegraph have already opened, so FPL won't want to be too much later - but they will want to fix as many problems as possible before opening (which they failed to do last year).

Giroud may come good but the Chamakh disappointment still lingers in the memory
Walcott is clearly the man to have at Arsenal
Winger tweaked the formation a little in the 2nd half of last season that saw the wingers take slightly more infield positions - ideal for Walcott to bag more this year

I've updated my 'Predict the Prices' competition at http://thefourpointhit.wordpress.com.

Our 25 participants projected an average price of £8.34m for Sigurdsson, £8.72m for Kagawa, and £9.5m for Cisse. Based on that, we reckon that Kagawa looks on the reasonable side of good value for money, while Sigurdsson’s price announcement represents fairly poor value. Cisse is a completely fair price.

Tomorrow they’ll be announcing Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud, who has averaged a price of £8.96m amongst our 26 entrants at the time of writing. Carlos Tevez, who wasn’t one of the 100 to guess in the competition, will also be announced, and assumably one more player.

This is how our competition entrants faired. Note that the asterisk means that these players were new to the game, while the others all guessed yesterday’s prices as well. Overall it will even itself out, as everyone will have chosen 100 players.

I am not buying this idea of FPL headquarters teasing us with a few prices to get us fired up and desperate for more. They haven't finished the updates, is all it is!! Yet again they are behind every other FF competition, because they are trying new and completely unnecessary upgrades. W**kers!!!

Some of last season's changes were poor, but if they can learn from their mistakes, correct the things that went wrong last time, and remove the software bugs before they release it, then that must surely be a good thing. Can't wait for it to start though!
Also, I'd rather learn about any new rule changes than a few new prices. But perhaps these rule changes (and maybe even some of the new prices) might be dependent on the tests working successfully.

Rule changes too? Anyone get the feeling that they are hell bent on making changes just because they can. I am of the opinion that if it ain't broke then don't fix it. I mean honestly did anyone care one iota for the 3-D player view they implemented last season. I couldn't have given a toss. All their tinkering is stopping me from altering my team for the 100th time!!!

      couple of things:
a - you never ever do deploy the way they are doing it - by blocking *production* site. Instead you make identical copy of the production site and data and test all you changes in local and once all your testing is done you deploy it. The site might go down for some minutes.
b - i can only guess what are their changes? only player prices? or the whole new redesign? in case only player prices it should be matter of writing and running an sql script (after you try it locally). In case of some big changes see a.

I can only guess they tried to deploy the real thing, blew it and now they are trying to fix it. But it it taking too long to fix.

      The bottom lines
a - end users should never ever under any circumstances be blocked from using site the way it is now. In case i would do it in my daily work like they did I would be fired (uhm yes would have to fix it first)
b - imagine some banking site or maybe Amazon not working because they are updating prices in the catalogue or moving products from one category to another or even adding new features.

One more thing - I dont know how much these guys get paid for their work but it is too much.

      Cheers/Salute/Pozdrav

You do if you are making fundamental changes to your DMZ. This is a public facing website, so putting up a holding page is standard practise for a lot of organisations when they are making major changes to their public facing websites.

Point is, no change implementation should take this long if it has been properly tested (including the deployment) in a parallel environment. And if the change is not ready for implementation, then what is the point of taking down the public facing website, considering the new version is not ready yet. It is quite possible for them to open up their new version on a different instance and do all their testing (within reason) before flicking the switch to put the new site 'live'

I think Spurs will have an immense season. Despite if Modric leaves, they'll still be strong as Moutinho will be likely to join them.

    Brad Freddy
    Walker Vertonghen Kaboul BAE
    Lennon Parker Moutinho Bale
    ----------Siggy-------
    ---------Adebayor------

Could finish on top of Arsenal, potentially.

They're going to be too weak at the back under AVB, Harry had them playing good football but he also had them defending in a half decent fashion. Newcastle will open them up on the first day of the season and it'll only get worse at the back from there........

Well it'd have to be a round figure. 200 million would be too much, 150? But that'd make Cisse £6 million in old money. Unless it's something trivial like 107 million then I'm afraid the answer is 'no'.
