QPR open their pre-season schedule with a 5-0 thrashing of a local XI in Asia, with Djibril Cisse the main protagonist. Man City scrape a goalless draw in Germany and have yet to find the net over their first couple of matches, while West Ham’s less than impressive form continues, as the Hammers slip to defeat at Oxford United:

Sabah Select XI 0 QPR 5
Mark Hughes’ side began their pre-season tour of Asia in emphatic style yesterday afternoon. The QPR boss handed three of his summer signings their debut, with Ji-Sung Park, Andrew Johnson and Fabio all featuring in the 5-0 win. The London outfit fielded a different XI in each half and went in 1-0 ahead at the break, thanks to a Bobby Zamora goal, though Johnson was highly praised in the match reports for an industrious performance up front alongside his former Fulham team mate. The second half saw QPR run rampant, with Fabio – 4.5 in FPL and 4.3 in the Sky Sports game – offering plenty threat from the right-back area throughout and resultantly picking up an assist towards the end. Hughes will be more than happy to see his frontmen all in strong form; Jay Bothroyd and Heidar Helguson both found the net, though Djibril Cisse was the stand-out performer. The Frenchman produced two goals and an assist, in a continuation of the form that brought six goals in seven starts in the second half of last season; at 6.5 in FPL and 7.5 in the Sky Sports game respectively, he could well be one to watch as a mid-price option next term.

QPR (first half): Murphy, Harriman, Ferdinand, Hill, Ehmer, Wright-Phillips, Diakite, Park, Doughty, Zamora, Johnson.

QPR (second half): Cerny, Fabio, Onuoha, Connolly, Traore, Mackie, Taarabt, Ephraim, Bothroyd, Cisse, Helguson.

Dynamo Dresden 0 Man City 0
Two games down and the champions have yet to score in pre-season following a goalless draw in Germany yesterday evening. Despite missing their Euro 2012 contingent, City still fielded a strong team, with Argentine duo Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez named up front in a 4-4-2. The latter looked the livelier of the two and came close to making the difference a couple of times, while Aguero – in his first appearance of the summer – made way at the break. Roberto Mancini made several changes as the match progressed but City, despite the promptings of Yaya Toure, were simply unable to produce the breakthrough and had to settle for a drab stalemate in the end. According to the City website, Mancini fielded all fit and available senior players for the match – Edin Dzeko, Adam Johnson and Nigel De Jong all sat in the stands, suggesting the trio were carrying knocks. Vincent Kompany also limped off with what appeared to be a hamstring issue, though bearing in mind the City site failed to mention it, the problem is likely to be minimal.

City Starting XI: Pantilimon (Johansen 74mins), Zabaleta (Elabdellaoui 74), Kolo Toure (Boyata 86), Savic (Mancini 86), Kompany (Rekik 68) Biton (Evans 86), Yaya Toure (Razak 70), Lopes (Weiss 62), Kolarov (Helan 74), Tevez (Scapuzzi 74) and Aguero (Jelavic 46, Bunn 86)

Oxford United 1 West Ham 0
Sam Allardyce fielded a strong team for last night’s trip to Oxford but watched on as his side spurned several opportunities in the 1-0 defeat. The likes of Mark Noble, Kevin Nolan and Ravel Morrison started in midfield, while Carlton Cole and Ricardo Vaz Te led the line in a 4-4-2 for the visitors. The Hammers ensured Morrison saw plenty of the ball and the former United man sparkled without producing any end product, while Vaz Te was the most culpable and missed plenty of chances to find the net. Allardyce watched his side go behind on 38 minutes and, after making a couple of substitutions at half-time, then proceeded to hand many of his Development Squad youngsters a run out just after the hour mark but the alterations failed to make any difference. The Hammers are being pencilled in for investment by Fantasy managers due to their strong opening schedule but their form so far has been anything but impressive; they have now tasted victory in just one of their four friendlies thus far.

West Ham Starting XI: Henderson, Demel (Nasha 61), Spence, Reid (Wearen 61), McCartney (Taylor 46), Noble (Moncur 61), Nolan (Ruddock 61), O’Neil (Porritt 61), Morrison (Turgott 61), Cole (Maynard 46), Vaz Te (Hall 61)

Not entirely sure. I had a go on the pc at home yesterday, but can't be arsed to trawl through the player values page. I want FPL to open before I'll have a 'proper' look.

But saying that I *think* my quick draft was along the lines of:

          Dea Gea - Bego
          Vidic - A. Cole - Hangelaand - Figueroa - West Ham???
          Dempsey - Kagawa - Lampard - Maloney - Noble
          Torres - Tevez - Graham

          How's you?

Rooney will come in for Torres, Aguero will share his forward place with 4 other strikers abd I didn't want to invest 11.5 in a non definate "90Minuter". Adebayor... well IF he plays for Spurs I would consider him.

I'm not sure on Lamps and Valencia, as they have too much competition and might be rotated too...

        interresting aspect...
Hart is a definate starter (and can keep a clean sheet in comparison to Friedel). I cant say this about Lescott. BAE has attacking potential and Spurs.

I think I can don't need this extra cash...

If Hart keeps a CS then so does Lescott(for 500k less). Lescott should be nailed on and is just an attacking threat as BAE and the indexy thingys like him.

I will definately tincker with that team... but I need 100% starters for their prices... And there is too much competition in the Top Teams.

e.g Man City defence, Chelsea/Man U Midfield, etc.

So I tried to pick definate starters (Lapard and Valencia are not a definate!)

I'm slightly puzzled at all the RMTs with Begovic in, I wouldn't back him for a cleanie until perhaps GW9. Perhaps the cheapie rotator strategy has been nerfed? DDG at 6, Friedel 5.5, quite a few keepers you can just pick and stick with.

It's about balancing the books though. 2 x 4.5m rotating keepers are 1- 1.5m less then DDG + a 4.5m keeper on your bench.

...but which rotating pair actually look like keeping any clean sheets? I can't see one. Maybe one or two out of Jussi if you're lucky, I don't see much out there for Stoke, that pretty much leaves Given as a rotator and he's 5.0.

I get your point, but Stoke has always been tight at home and 4.5m for a keeper is the cheapest way in. Obv relying on save points when it comes to Jussi(he does have a mean right hand slap as a bonus!)

Last year it took a while for Vorm/Krul to emerge. Who knows that this year will be like.

Eh good point. I like Taarabt (but then I did last year and that worked out well), Fabio is a 4,5 defender so if he does turn out to be a bad choice then I'll bench him. Tevez/Kagawa fair enough probably safer to go with Aguero and a route to Rooney.

Dembele was just because I was excited to have him as an option for FPL.

Cole --> Lescott, u need City def.
Bale injured ftm, don't know the length of it though.
      Kagawa unsure if will start.
Loving Dembele, and loving the strikers!

Overall a pretty decent team! U should be proud.

Go Chelsea defender with that double over City to start with.
Bale's fine - been in full training.
Kagawa will start and should keep his place unless he is a stinker - SAF didn't buy him to bench him.

        Thank you :-).

Less than 24hrs in with the prices and I already feel us moving towards a FFS concensus team.

I intend to give it a real go at having something a fair bit different to start the year off and if it turns out I'm wrong I can take an early WC without too much damage ( I hope).

I still haven't seen many teams based around a GW2 front line of Rooney / Aguero / Cheapie - which is what I'm planning. Much easier to plan for that and downgrade to the likes of Torres/Tevez/Bent than to go the other way round.

        This is true Stilicho.
I was looking at a team for 4-6 GWs and change early (4) if it's a disaster, or just let it run and use 4-8pt hits as necessary if it's OKish.

Seems like, as per my comment on the last post, that if you go for proven players from top teams you will do well. Most RMTs I'm seeing are full of promoted players and Premier League newbies.

What are your intial thoughts on midfield?

I think I'm lookiing at Hazard (with more hope than expectation, plenty of other optins in that bracket if it doesn't work), Bale (or Sig), Noble, perhaps Sinclair (but I'll end up flaking on him) and an as yet unidentified cheapie - with a view to having a viable 4 at the back.

I'm thinking Hazard as well as a punt, but will wait and see how the chelsea mid pans out.

          Looking something like this
          DDG/Federici
Cole-Clichy- Cueller- possibly Fabio -maybe an arsenal def or Kaboul
          Bale - Chelsea mid - Noble - Taarabt- ????
Torres - Aguero - cheap striker

          2m in the bank

That's seven or eight from top teams and a sprinking of cheap newbies

keep seeing posts saying Dempsey will be less effective in FPL if he moves to Liverpool? He’s no Adam, dependent on set pieces and often on the bench. Dempsey will be nailed on at Liverpool and if he plays the same role but in a better team, what’s not to like? First name in my team either way.… 😎

What? Rodgers will play a 4-3-3 based on Tiki-Taka, Henderson is a Central Midfielder not a Right Winger and Downing is just awful as for Dempsey he is also a Midfielder and will most likely play by the Strikers while not actually being a Striker with the new system don't expect crosses all the time as Downing is now effectively redundant as is your comment.

I think Dempsey will be wasted playing on either side of a striker at the front of a 4-3-3. I'd want him behind a striker or pair of strikers - he's at his best when arriving late into the box from deep, can't do that if he's already up there next to Borini/Suarez

Kaboul Fabio Figueroa Turner Fonte (23)
Silva Hazard Fellaini Allen Noble (36.5)
    Rooney Adebayor Bent (30)

0m in the bank. Possibly have Aguero/Torres GW1 instead of Rooney.

An observation for all those who are already planning on having Torres first week then transferring him out for Rooney the second week.

I presume that the reason you want Torres is because hopefully with all the creative players around him he will start to fire. If that does indeed turn out to be the case then why on earth would you then take him out for Roopig?

Seems counter intuitive to me. I say pick ya team as if you were having to keep it for the season then as form and fixtures start to come in to play then make decisions based upon those factors.

Another reason is that you aren't forced to actually make the trade, you can do something else with the cash, whereas if you haven't planned to make that trade you're looking at a points hit straight out of the gate.

There's two Bennetts at Norwich - one listed as Bennett and one listed as Ryan Bennett (the only player to be listed with his forename). Anyone know the other Bennett's forename?

What is it with Norwich and their similar names? They've also got a Barnett, not to mention two Martins and Ruddy/Rudd.

This depends on the rest of the squad. A good Man Utd plyer and a good spurs player would be a shrewd move for the fist six games.

      So either go

      Rooney and Bale
      Ade and Kagawa/Valencia/Young

maybe not if valencia stays fit for once 😛 i wonder if kagawa might also get some games on the wing to accommodate for welbeck, and perhaps even powell could get some gametime. avoiding nani for now, personally.

The problem with rotating: how do you know in an 'easy' fixture that their going to play well? And also you'll always be annoyed when you have more points on the bench than on the field.

Valencia/Young in for Nani imo. I like Cisse, he's not had much mention since his price rise...but, you will quickly regret that defence - a def's bread&butter is clean sheets and you're not going to convince me that West Ham/S'ampton/QPR/Reading will be keeping too many.

Could be a steal at £7.0m.

Don't see it personally. Will surely command huge wages (that he could get elsewhere). Not really AVB/Levy's current sort of signing. 'Arry would have been all over it.

An early hit was my initial idea too.

Start with Cole, Lampard & Torres.
          GW2: Lampard & Torres -> Bale & Ade

But if the two Chelsea boys perform in GW1 the transfers could be delayed a week and done without a hit.
