Man City get back to winning ways after a couple of poor performances, as Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany grabs the goals against Besiktas. QPR notch five for the second successive pre-season friendly, with Adel Taarabt pulling the strings as his side run riot against Asian side Kelantan. Djibril Cisse’s injury is an early concern for Mark Hughes, however…

Man City 2 Besiktas 0
The champions stepped up a gear in their third pre-season match after failing to find the net in the first two. While still devoid of his Euro 2012 contingent, Roberto Mancini fielded a strong looking side, with Vincent Kompany shaking off a hamstring knock sustained in the previous game against Dynamo Dresden to start alongside Kolo Toure in the heart of defence. Despite a multitude of star names on show, the City official website praised the performance of Abdul Razak in particular – the teenager carried much of his side’s attacking threat and set up Sergio Aguero for the opener. Kompany demonstrated his class once again by grabbing the second; carrying the ball out from the back, the City skipper executed a perfect chip over the opposition goalkeeper just before the hour mark. The Belgian was immediately subbed off, though, and, as Mancini continued to ring the changes during the second half, City lost their momentum but, despite suffering a scare when the Turkish side hit the post, cruised home comfortably in the end.

Man City Starting XI: Pantilimon; Zabaleta (Rekik 70), K Toure (Boyata 88), Kompany (Savic 57), Kolarov (Helan 88); A. Johnson (Mancini 88), Y Toure (Evans 75), Razak, Lopes (Weiss 46); Aguero (Jelavic 70), Tevez (Scapuzzi 64)

Kelantan 0 QPR 5
Mark Hughes’ side continued to rack up the goals in their Asia tour with another 5-0 win yesterday. Intriguingly, QPR lined up in a 4-4-1-1 formation, with Adel Taarabt handed a role in “the hole” behind Djibril Cisse, while both Fabio and Rob Green earned their first starts since joining up at Loftus Road this summer. According to the match report on the club’s official website, Taarabt was central to most of his side’s attacking moves and, creating chances aplenty from a more central position, picked up two assists. At 6.0 in FPL and 5.2 in the Sky Sports game, the Moroccan is definitely one to watch next term, though it’s arguable that this team shape may be more applicable to away games, bearing in mind that QPR picked up one point from nine road trips under Hughes last term.

Substitute Max Ehmer also provided a pair of assists, with Shaun Wright-Philips, Michael Harriman, Darren Mackie, Bobby Zamora and Heidar Helguson all getting amongst the goals in another emphatic performance from the London outfit. Despite the win, Hughes’ joy was somewhat tempered by the hamstring problem that forced Cisse off after just 20 minutes – the manager admitted post-match:

Djib felt some reaction in his hamstring. We’ll have to wait for a couple of days before it settles down and then we can make a more definite decision. It’s probably too early to make a guess on how long he’ll be out for…We’re hopeful it won’t be any longer than a week to ten days, but it’s too early to say for definite.

QPR Starting XI: Green (Murphy 46); Fabio, Ferdinand (Connolly 60), Hill (Onuoha 46), Traore (Harriman 46); Mackie, Diakite (Doughty 60), Ephraim, Wright-Phillips; Taarabt (Zamora 60); Cisse (Johnson 20) (Helguson 77).

I expect it will be Taarabt because Helgusson took them last season and he definitely won't be starting.

Apologies for reposting but my other has dropped off onto the abyss of the previous article last page...

RAMT (Rip Apart My Team) First punt of the season, feeling a bit rusty.

    Foster Mignolet

Kaboul Lescott Cole A McAuley Ness

    Noble Brunt Kagawa Hazard Larsson

    Pogrebnyak Rooney Torres

Couple of notes; Maybe eyebrows at brunt but could have a much better season as WBA play a more attacking stylee. Still have RVP nagging in my ear, I think he’ll stay in this country. Ness is a bit of a guess but could be a good buy with his ability to play in midfield, he’ll be bench mostly anyway.

Look forward to digesting your thoughts over the weekend along with the Gallons of Ale.

    Ta!

Glaring lack of man city attacking coverage. Swap Rooney for ageuro and in gwk 2 swap Torres for Rooney, who has a terrible first game away to everton.

"he'll be bench mainly" is famous last words. Having 15 who play gives you lots of flexibility to rotate depending on fixtures. Remember ferguson last season?

        Weekly punts never work.

I have Rooney from day one and am keeping. Yes, Torres may well score well in GW1 but if he doesn't you have to waste a transfer to take him out.

        Rooney is fixture proof.

Not away to everton... It's the only fixture where he has little or no chance of doing anything. If it was any other fixture I'd agree.

I think that even if he does do well, most people will be taking him out. Torres to Rooney will be a very popular transfer - I'm expecting Rooney to be one of the first few to rise in price.

      Ta Lads.

May look at a bit of man city attacking but it's always more of a gamble and I also don't agree with the one game for this and that, well certainly not in this case anyway. Sorry but this Rooney will never do anything against Everton thing just doesn't hold any water with me. How people can speak with such conviction when we're talking about football always makes me laugh. Nothing is guaranteed on the football pitch, nothing.

Thanks for all the posts, it's given my FF brain a bit of a slap around. (Ness will probably get the boot.)

Green looks best keeper at £4.5m as we should be solid at home. When QPR fixtures get better Fabio would be worth a shout too.

Aguero needs to be in there.

Swansea have a poor record against QPR at Loftus Rd, I'd keep Holt and ditch Graham. Holt on Norwich pens too so worth having as a 3rd striker.

Not liking Adam and Song and wouldn't double up on Chelsea defence. Too much money on positions (GK and DEF) that you won't spend captain picks on hence not th epositions where you will score the bulk of your points from.

            Yeah okay.
Btw about that name of yours, I recommend Xbox just because you can get its game on DVDs which are a lot cheaper than Blu-rays. In Pakistan, a PS3 game is almost 20/30 times expensive than a Xbox game. I don't know if that is the case in India. There isn't much difference in the gameplay as well.

Any thoughts on Jenkinson (ARS) at 4.5? Sagna broke his leg in May so surely that will take a year to mend? Santos and Gibbs play LB? So won't he be first choice for a while or is it better to stick with Wilson (STO) at 4.5?

Rotate well and cost me less than £10m. Not interested in spending £10m+ on keeper position as thats not where you are going to make the bulk of your points from in FPL.

    Afternoon all

Are we still in the Dead Zone or is this Post-Dead Zone?

I'm trying but I just can't get into making my team yet - I feel there's so much doubt about key players, transfers, line-ups, formations and whatnot that it all seems a bit pointless.
I mean, what happens if RVP stays, Tevez goes, Berbatov moves to another Premier side or the Glazers put their hands in someone else's pockets for the players they really need? And what about this Michu? When's he coming and is how's he going to fit in? Too many questions...
The only things I've really decided are Rooney, cheap goalies, as many "in the hole" players as I can squeeze in and to spend less time staring blankly at the transfers page.

Difference is that they both have better managers in charge of them this season and both started to show real genuine form by the end of the season.

Taarabt also has much better players around him this year. At £6m and £6.5m respectively they both represent good potential value.

Sow are people playing Chelsea. There is only room to take out 2 Chelsea players before GW 3. And a Chelsea player is a lot of money on the bench.

    Are you:
    A) Take out 3 take a 4 point hit
