We’ve a number of things in development right now, including the new event maps to be added to the members area, a new version of the season ticker which will get the tool back in the sidebar on every page of the site and the members’ pre-season player projections.

I’m directly involved in the latter, working with Fantasy Football statistician Chris Atkinson, the creator of the statistical model that powered his “Rate My Team” website over the past two seasons. Last year the stats brains amongst the Scout Team, namely Pure Olivia and Superior Being, spent a lot of time looking at Chris’ model and came to the conclusion that he had created something really rather special.

The model is built specifically to assess every player in the Premier League and return their expected values for Fantasy Premier League points in a given Gameweek. The system is a complex and thorough one which, of course, plots the probabilities of a player’s time on the pitch, their expected number of goals, assists, bonus points, yellow and red cards, clean sheets, own goals, goals conceded and saves. The strength of the opponent they are facing in a given Gameweek is also crucial; so every team has a attacking, defensive rating, every player a probability of playing a given match with injuries, suspensions and international absence or factored in.

When it came to improving our projections for the coming season, it was a no-brainer for us. We approached Chris to be involved and we’re delighted to say he joined the Scout team ranks earlier this year. We’ve been spending several weeks working with the existing model and hatching plans for improvements. However, the pre-season projections have been the priority and they are now close to their first release.

Right now we’re factoring in the effect of the African Cup of Nations on those likely to participate but, once that is added to the model, we’ll be very close to a first set of numbers.

We’re looking to publish full projections for every player, plotting their total points, goals, assists etc for the entire season. We’re also looking to deliver short-term projections offering a view of the opening six Gameweeks.

The projection tables will be fully sortable and you can assess FPL points per million value to help you run the rule of those crucial budget purchases.

I’m certainly encouraged by the numbers being produced at the moment and have no doubt that, by bringing in Chris’ model, we’ve taken a big step to delivering our the best set of pre-season projections yet. I’ll hopefully bring you more on this in the next few days…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

RVP converted most of his assists do so thats him gone in terms of assists this season. Unless who ever buys RVP takes him too, sort of a package deal.

Giroud is renowned for his ability in the air, far better aerial player than RVP. Everyone's telling themselves Song was a fluke, but I suspect that's because everyone's got him down as a DM and DMs aren't 'meant' to score points.

    DDG (Cerny)
    Clichy---Ivanovic---Demel---(Coloccini---Clyne)
    Guthrie---Hazard---Silva---Noble---(Pienaar)
    Torres---Grahan---Aguero.

I'll get Michu to replace Pienaar if he's 6.5 or less. Thanks in advance.

So hard to chose between Pienaar and McClean. Lookeed at the fixtures, that really didn't help. Both could do well, but sadly can't afford both atm. Though if Tevez or Mario gets nailed on, a switch from Aguero to one of them could be on the cards. (Or I can shift Kagawa?)

I think both could do well, McClean was in awesome form for Sunderland. Both have great fixtures after GW1.

        My options are

        1) McClean to Pienaar

        2) Kagawa to Pienaar (though I got no idea what I'd do with the spare cash since it would leave me short of affording Bent)

        3) Aguero to Tevez then Noble to Pienaar

Can't afford Sess, and no. Last season McClean was averaging about the same as Sess for 1.5 less. I see that continuing.

Has anyone else noticed that all the teams that play at home during gameweek 19 also all play at home in gameweek 20?

Does seem unfair on those teams with two away trips in three days during the hectic festive schedule, does it normally occur this way?

I stumbled across this too, but was too focussed on rotations.

      Does seem a bit imbalanced.

Don't normally ask for a RMT but just back from holiday abroad, not followed much transfer and other news, and my 'starter for 10' team maybe isn't too generic (yet). where are the obvious no-no's?

    De Gea, Schwarzer
Mertesacker, Coloccini, S.Kelly, Gunter, Jones (Billy)
    Dempsey, Hazard, Ramires, YaYa, Pienaar
    Torres, Tevez, Pog.

I have both. Want to keep Maloney as he will get goals without set-pieces. Only have 5 million on my mid slot, Noble seems like the best option (short of downgrading Hazard, Kagawa or McClean)

Unless you lose hangeland for a 4m and rotate the 3?

I would sell silva and get kagawa.

            Promoted picks

We look at which newly-promoted players can shine in Sky Sports Fantasy Football this season.

            Last Updated: Sat, 21 Jul 2012 17:01:00

We search for the next Grant Holt from the Prem's new boys.

            Southampton

            Top pick: Rickie Lambert

            Set-piece taker: Rickie Lambert

Goals conceded last season: 46 (18 clean sheets)

Rickie Lambert (£6.8m) is the obvious pick for Fantasy bosses desperate to discover the new Grant Holt after topping the Championship scoring charts last season.

The 30-year-old not only netted 27 times last time but was also responsible for 13 assists, just one less than the league's highest contributor.

With Lambert netting nine times from the spot, his strike partner Billy Sharpe (£5.8m) was just as prolific from open play, scoring 19 times including one penalty.

Sharpe may struggle to retain his starting berth however, with fellow frontman Jay Rodriguez (£5.5m), who netted 15 times for Burnley last season, added to the ranks.

Adam Lallana (£4.9m) starred for the Saints in the middle of the park last season, scoring 11 times during the campaign, while Guly Do Prado (£4.7m) found the net 10 times.

At the back, Danny Fox (£3.7m) looks a shrewd pick having contributed 10 assists from left-back in a defence which kept an impressive 18 clean sheets.

            Reading

            Top pick: Alex Pearce

            Set-piece taker: Ian Harte

Goals conceded last season: 41 (20 clean sheets)

While the collective effort from Reading's all-contributing squad was impressive last season, it also makes it difficult to pick out key players.

Adam Le Fondre (£6.5m) was their top scorer with just 12 goals, hardly the sort of tally likely to tempt Fantasy bosses scrambling for his services, while midfielder Jimmy Kebe (£4.6m) contributed the most assists with 10 but netted just three times.

Pavel Pogrebnyak (£7.2m) has joined the ranks over the summer after impressing during his loan spell at Fulham, scoring six times in his 12 appearances, although form teetered off towards the end of the season.

However, the Royals backline is definitely worth a look at after keeping a league-high 20 clean sheets en route to their title triumph.

Australia goalkeeper Adam Federici (£4m) is one of the cheapest in the game and even has a goal in him, having netted against Cardiff in 2009, while centre-back Alex Pearce (£4.2m) netted five times last term and Ian Harte bagged four.

            West Ham

            Top pick: Kevin Nolan

            Set-piece taker: Mark Noble

Goals conceded last season: 48 (17 clean sheets)

The Hammers' return to the top flight reunites Fantasy bosses with a perennial favourite Kevin Nolan (£4.9m).

The attacking midfielder hit double figures for a third successive season last term with 13 goals.

Mark Noble (£4.7m) was also pretty prolific from the middle of that park last season with eight goals to his name, although all but one were from the spot.

While Carlon Cole (£6.7m) was West Ham's top scorer with 14 goals last season, Ricardo Vaz Te (£6.2m) was the league's second highest with his contributions for Barnsley and then the Hammers seeing him rack up 20 in total.

At the other end of the pitch, Sam Allardyce's men were the least stringent of those to get promoted, conceding over a goal a game.

The Hammers boss has added veteran stopper Jussi Jaaskelainen (£3.8m) to his ranks after releasing Robert Green, while James Tomkins (£4.1m) is their highest valued defender having scored four times last term.

Get your team entered before August 3rd to qualify for the Early Bird League, with the top five winning Xbox360s.

3*4.0 rotaters would be my choice if I was unable to touch the big hitters. Personally I would go with the Orc instead of Kun. You can then go DDG/4.5

Though Beausejour plays higher up than Boyce out of the wingbacks, wonder if Boyce might just be worth the extra cash because he's still classified as a defender.

Right, as King Eric put it, having examined the rotating keeper strategy, the DDG strategy, the 1/2/3 striker strategies, the 1/2/3 big mids strategies, the penalty takers strategy, the mid-mid-forward rotation, the 3-way defensive rotation and the 2x2-way defensive rotation, I think I'm onto my last one........

At work the ladies in our weekly NFL pool use team colors and one uses team mascots to make their picks. It's redonkulous how well they do.

            Rotating cheap keepers

2 top class defenders, other 3 rotating.

3 good mids, 1 mid price other bench fodder.

2 big guns uptop.... Then a cheeky punt.

Why Coleman? He plays right wing...If anything it increases Naismith's appeal

        +1

Naismith could be a good option in the 4411. Of course this is in Feb when Everton start playing!

Dempsey to Liverpool has died down somewhat. If he stays at Fulham hes a must have no? Look at his fixtures for the first 10 weeks!

Even though he played as a striker at times last season, many of his goals came when there was a striker in front of him. Makes little difference in my eyes. Has as good fixtures as Bale and is just as potent.

United are convincing him to keep things hush-hush ...

Nani's going to Fulham as a makeweight (they convinced him they put up a statue outside dedicated to him already ... and now he feels like CRonaldo in that World Cup advert ... ).

      😀

The mess up with the deal being 'confirmed' on the FSG website has stalled negotiations there are also rumours of Fulham playing hardball however i don't think Liverpool will stand for it a simply walk away. Personally i hope he doesn't go to Liverpool as he's not the kind of player (at 30 and for 10m) we need.

Ok I have been on a tweaking spree and my team is now a little less generic but still have the Noloney combo

    Begs
    Terry (c) Ivanovic Hughes
    Bale Kagawa Pienaar Noble
    Torres Aguero Petric

    Juicy Wilson Maloney Cuellar

    Ivanovic>Lescott GW2 then Torres>Rooney GW3

FFS, as generic as mine. Exactly the same Mid and Attack except I have Yaya for Kagawa.
