Chelsea have this evening announced the signing of 20-year-old Brazilian Oscar from Internacional for a fee, reportedly in the region of £25 million. The young attacking midfielder, who can play centrally or on the flank, is currently on Olympic duty with his national side, offering us Fantasy managers and Chelsea fans the opportunity to assess his talents in the coming month.

Oscar is the latest acquisition by the Champions League winners who have been quick to flex their financial muscles following their triumph in Munich, capturing the likes of Eden Hazard and Marko Marin. The arrival of the South American playmaker is believed to take their Summer spending well beyond the £50 million mark.

For us Fantasy managers, this latest foray into the market adds further doubt to our selection of Chelsea’s attacking assets. Roberto Di Matteo’s side begin their campaign with a double Gameweek, taking on a trip to Wigan and a midweek home clash with newly promoted Reading. While that pair of fixtures offers obvious incentive for investment, Di Matteo’s first choice lineup is becoming more and more difficult to call by the week.

Chelsea face three league games in the space of six days with a home meeting with Newcastle looming in Gameweek 2; realistically Di Matteo will surely be looking to utilise his options to keep his lineup fresh. It looks difficult, perhaps almost impossible, to find an attacking player who is assured of starting all three of those matches.

We can at least presume that Oscar will take time to bed in and be given a number of weeks to acclimatise before being given a full Premier League debut. However, his arrival in the squad will mean that the uncertainty surrounding our Chelsea selections is set to remain long after the double Gameweek has passed.

We’ll bring you a full Scout Report on Oscar, with more analysis on his likely role and impact in the next 24-hours.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I know but it gives the illusion of being cheap because there are less 'big hitters'. It could be successful, i just wouldn't like to bench all that cash every week.

Most team im seeing have 2/3 heavy hitters in midfield and 2 up top. Surely with the excellent options for mid-priced midfielders this season, would be better to go 3 heavy hitters up top and 1 less in midfield? Especially as forwards are more involved in goals for most teams?

Shawcross is 5.0 right? Not sure how well the rotation works out with ur other defenders but Ridgewell, Hangeland and the whole Newcastle defence are the best 5.0 picks. Would get STaylor and Cuellar - they rotate well - and use the 0.5 to upgrade clyne to a defender that rotates well with Fabio - not sure who.

With Siggy gone, they actually might rely more on Graham for goals. Petric position is as shaky as Rodallega but Jol seems to like him a lot. And then there's the Lukaku rumour. Taking all these in, I'd say Graham.

We're all fretting about our respective keeper combo's.
However, I was already leaning towards pure value with the Jussi Bego option when I then checked out last year's overall winner and his GKing patterns:

    1-7 Given and Guzman
    8-15 Given and Ruddy
    15-17 Lindegaard and Ruddy
    18-21 Vorm and Moreira
    21-28 Lindegaard and Mignolet
    28-38 Howard and Mignolet

My conclusion: yes, his keepers did a sterling job for the last 10 but for the rest of the season he's tinkered with 'em and yet made them look like an afterthought. This guy WON FPL after butchering keeper patterns. Personally, I look at this and I'm convinced that Bego Jussi will do just fine...

Bego/Jussi will do fine. But the point is will the cash u save and use elsewhere offset the loss in points with a stronger pair? Im leaning towards no due to the plethora of mid-priced mids.

Well Smalling is out for ages so is Evans and Vidic might not be ready for the start. So it is either between PJones and Rafael for the RB slot but Jones might have to play CB. I would say Rafael has a good chance but not guaranteed. I hope he does though as his stats in the members area are amazing.
