Chelsea have this evening announced the signing of 20-year-old Brazilian Oscar from Internacional for a fee, reportedly in the region of £25 million. The young attacking midfielder, who can play centrally or on the flank, is currently on Olympic duty with his national side, offering us Fantasy managers and Chelsea fans the opportunity to assess his talents in the coming month.

Oscar is the latest acquisition by the Champions League winners who have been quick to flex their financial muscles following their triumph in Munich, capturing the likes of Eden Hazard and Marko Marin. The arrival of the South American playmaker is believed to take their Summer spending well beyond the £50 million mark.

For us Fantasy managers, this latest foray into the market adds further doubt to our selection of Chelsea’s attacking assets. Roberto Di Matteo’s side begin their campaign with a double Gameweek, taking on a trip to Wigan and a midweek home clash with newly promoted Reading. While that pair of fixtures offers obvious incentive for investment, Di Matteo’s first choice lineup is becoming more and more difficult to call by the week.

Chelsea face three league games in the space of six days with a home meeting with Newcastle looming in Gameweek 2; realistically Di Matteo will surely be looking to utilise his options to keep his lineup fresh. It looks difficult, perhaps almost impossible, to find an attacking player who is assured of starting all three of those matches.

We can at least presume that Oscar will take time to bed in and be given a number of weeks to acclimatise before being given a full Premier League debut. However, his arrival in the squad will mean that the uncertainty surrounding our Chelsea selections is set to remain long after the double Gameweek has passed.

We’ll bring you a full Scout Report on Oscar, with more analysis on his likely role and impact in the next 24-hours.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    How's Kolo Toure faring so far? Might inflict Lescott a fair share of ownership, no?

      I heard he might be off to another club, which would help Lescott's prospects. I think Joleon is semi-nailed on for now though, probably start 4 in 5

    What do you think is the best combo to put in midfield for 12m

    A) Sinclair + Maloney
    B) Larsson + Allen
    C) Taarabt + Michu
    D) Other

    Vorm - Federici
    Williams - Cole - Clichy - Gunter - Clyne
    Silva - Hazard - Frei - ??? - ???
    Aguero - Pogrebnyak - Torres

    2m spare
    Torres -> Rooney GWK 2
    Hazard -> Bale GWK 3

      How do people think he compares with cheaper mids like Maloney and Noble. I had him in my team but that extra 1.0 is very useful. Also I had him at the start of last season for ages and he did nothing despite playing consistently...not sure I want to get burned twice.

    Not much love for Larsson?

    On corners, free kicks and now Bendtner is no longer at the club he is first choice penalty taker. Sunderland have fairly decent fixtures to start with too. Any reason why he's not been favoured by many?

                Larrson started the strongest of the Sunderland midfielders but tailed off around Christmas time as Sess and McClean came to the fore.

                Think he'll be nailed on for Sunderland and with set pieces I think he'll be the best option from the Sunderland midfielders

    the top scoring keeper in the fpl (hart) got 166 points while top scoring defender got 159 points.both cost 7m pounds. number two gk, vorm had 158 points(5.5m) while number two defender kompany had 145 points yet costs 7.5 million.
    number five on the gk list was horward(5.5m) had 151 points while number four on the defenders list was terry with a mere 138 points yet he costs 7m pounds
    my conclusion is that keepers are much better value for money.a de gea hart combo will in all likelyhood bring more points than a vidic kompany rotation. am going with either friedel sczeszny or friedel howard.

      Remember, there is 1 keeper and at least 3 defenders in each team. This has a knock-on effect when you rotate both.

      However, it is very true that top defenders are exceptionally poor value for money, this Season. The very most I would pay at the start is 6.5. Having said that, my goal keepers are 4.5 + 5.5 ...

          I don't know. Sunderland were nowhere near my radar until MON came along and changed my life.

          That would be a bit of a coincidence. Unless perhaps the authorities are keen not to have both sets of fans using the Metro system (north east underground) on the same day and rig the fixture draw. Now there's a conspiracy theory for you 🙂

                    Caps is a home game so most of the games for most of those rotation combinations are home games, which is why they're good rotation candidates.

            Not really a conspiracy. The fixtures are rigged to keep certain clubs from being at home at the same time. It's generally due to policing.

            I just can't remember if Newc/Sun are two of those clubs. There was an article or program or something about it on BBC at some point that I remember reading.

    According to L'Equipe today, Spurs will put in a €12 million bid for Hugo Lloris this week, which is still some way below Lyon's demands for €20 million. Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has set an ultimatum of this Sunday for an acceptable bid to be tabled.

    Negotiations on Kevin de Bruyne's loan deal to Werder Bremen are pretty far advanced, I'm told, with Chelsea, SV Werder and the player himself keen for a one-year loan to be agreed. This won't be finalised until Chelsea return from tour however.

    Former fantasy favorites and fantasy forces Lamps and Adam both scored yesterday. Like. I like those two bonus darling lads 😛

    Also Joe Cole had a decent game last night. The Rogers system could suit him for real.

    Feeling more confident having Lamps instead of Hazard in my team for now.

        Excellent player but not good fantasy wise. For that price I prefer Marin as a short term punt

                hhmm...I feel the need for 2 x 9.5m milfs...

                I like your team better.

                Pienaar-->McClean(better fix at the start)
                Friedel-->Mign(will play most weeks)
                Cuellar-->Fabio(rotates with Clyne)
                Clicy-->Lescott(bigger goal threat)
