With two days until the season kick-off, Robin Van Persieโ€™s future appears to have been decided with the announcement that Arsenal have agreed terms with Manchester United.

The official statement arrived this evening from Arsenal and United have also offered confirmation of the move, subject to a medical.

This is obviously momentous news on the eve of the Premier League and Fantasy season. Undoubtedly the biggest move of the summer transfer window so far, the Dutchmanโ€™s move to Old Trafford is โ€“ from a Fantasy perspective โ€“ arguably the most significant transfer since Cristiano Ronaldo left the Old Trafford club for Real Madrid in 2009:

Sir Alex Fergusonโ€™s acquisition of the former Gunners skipper hands United a lethal looking frontline as they look to wrestle the title back from neighbours City. The two top scoring players in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) in 2011/12, Van Persie and Rooney โ€“ with 269 and 230 points respectively โ€“ will surely rack up goals aplenty but, with either of the two more than capable of accruing huge points hauls to the otherโ€™s detriment in any given Gameweek, we are left with an unwanted armband dilemma as the Fantasy landscape around us is altered irrevocably.

Quite how Van Persie will fit into the pecking order in terms of set-pieces and spot-kicks is a crucial factor which will be keenly anticipated by Fantasy managers โ€“ if Rooney continues as the number one for penalties, the Dutchmanโ€™s stock will clearly drop in our estimations, with a tussle for bonus also a significant factor is how we invest in the United frontline. The Fantasy popularity of new boy Shinji Kagawa perhaps now looks a little less appealing until a clearer picture of the situation at Old Trafford, in terms of tactics and the likelihood of rotation, is established.

Over at the Emirates, Van Persieโ€™s departure is surely set to boost the long-term appeal of new signings Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud. The Gunnersโ€™ French-based scout Gilles Grimandi admitted only last month that Giroud was signed from Montpellier in anticipation of Van Persie leaving โ€“ a central role looks likely for the Frenchman, then, but with Wenger conceding his summer signings will be eased into action in the season ahead, their initial impact is perhaps questionable. Despite this, it seems Podolski, at least, is set to start against Sunderland on Saturday as the Gunners gear up for action without their former skipper.

Fellow new-boy Santi Cazorla, though, now looks the most likely Gunner to benefit in terms of set-pieces; potentially, he should be handed corners and free-kicks, while the issue of spot-kicks looks up for grabs โ€“ Podolski scored from the spot on Sunday, though itโ€™s worth noting that Mikel Arteta didnโ€™t feature in the 4-0 win over Cologne.

Weโ€™ll have more on the full impact of the Van Persie move and its knock-on effects for both sides in a more substantial Moving Target later.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

"if Rooney continues as the number one for penalties, the Dutchman’s stock will clearly drop in our estimations"

Mark - I am an Arsenal fan; I dont think RVP scored more than 2 penalties in the league last year, so I dont think him not being on spot kicks will lower his points tally all that much.

All of you waiting and watching and not going ahead with United coverage, i have to say a couple of things.

FUL, sot, WIG (Fixtures you will be missing)

Also, remember a certain 8-2 scoreline GW2? United's ego was hurt and they have all been waiting to kick start the season with a statement of intent. Do not invest at your own peril. Of you want to take my advice, go with Rooney.

    hi guys -
is the optimal strategy now play torres gw 1 and leave 3m in the bank and then see how it goes before moving for rooney or van persie (in one move). this leaves other transfers for emeregencies (ie tierney not starting etc)
"cash in the bank" seems like a compelling strategy to me.

Why are peeps dissing RVP for this move?

Arsenal look like having the same frailties in defence as the last 6 trophy-less years. My only question was why he waited so long to actually take his considerable goalscoring talents elsewhere.

This may be a nightmare for us FPL owners but for RVP he's finally getting a genuine chance to win the League and possibly the Champions League too.

And £22.5M or whatever it eventually was for him was good business from Arsenal. He has no sell on value if he reaches the end of his deal with Utd.

Time for Wenger to spend some money on proper defenders now.

aged 29 and last chance to win more medals. IF FFP was in place ten years ago Wenger would be King. But it wasn't. Medals go to those who play for the oil barons and an oil baron wenger is not.

Nobody should be afraid about van Persie passing a medical. It is clinically impossible to fail a United medical. Hargreaves, Saha & Owen.
