With two days until the season kick-off, Robin Van Persie’s future appears to have been decided with the announcement that Arsenal have agreed terms with Manchester United.

The official statement arrived this evening from Arsenal and United have also offered confirmation of the move, subject to a medical.

This is obviously momentous news on the eve of the Premier League and Fantasy season. Undoubtedly the biggest move of the summer transfer window so far, the Dutchman’s move to Old Trafford is – from a Fantasy perspective – arguably the most significant transfer since Cristiano Ronaldo left the Old Trafford club for Real Madrid in 2009:

Sir Alex Ferguson’s acquisition of the former Gunners skipper hands United a lethal looking frontline as they look to wrestle the title back from neighbours City. The two top scoring players in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) in 2011/12, Van Persie and Rooney – with 269 and 230 points respectively – will surely rack up goals aplenty but, with either of the two more than capable of accruing huge points hauls to the other’s detriment in any given Gameweek, we are left with an unwanted armband dilemma as the Fantasy landscape around us is altered irrevocably.

Quite how Van Persie will fit into the pecking order in terms of set-pieces and spot-kicks is a crucial factor which will be keenly anticipated by Fantasy managers – if Rooney continues as the number one for penalties, the Dutchman’s stock will clearly drop in our estimations, with a tussle for bonus also a significant factor is how we invest in the United frontline. The Fantasy popularity of new boy Shinji Kagawa perhaps now looks a little less appealing until a clearer picture of the situation at Old Trafford, in terms of tactics and the likelihood of rotation, is established.

Over at the Emirates, Van Persie’s departure is surely set to boost the long-term appeal of new signings Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud. The Gunners’ French-based scout Gilles Grimandi admitted only last month that Giroud was signed from Montpellier in anticipation of Van Persie leaving – a central role looks likely for the Frenchman, then, but with Wenger conceding his summer signings will be eased into action in the season ahead, their initial impact is perhaps questionable. Despite this, it seems Podolski, at least, is set to start against Sunderland on Saturday as the Gunners gear up for action without their former skipper.

Fellow new-boy Santi Cazorla, though, now looks the most likely Gunner to benefit in terms of set-pieces; potentially, he should be handed corners and free-kicks, while the issue of spot-kicks looks up for grabs – Podolski scored from the spot on Sunday, though it’s worth noting that Mikel Arteta didn’t feature in the 4-0 win over Cologne.

We’ll have more on the full impact of the Van Persie move and its knock-on effects for both sides in a more substantial Moving Target later.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

It's called a punt because you are far from sure whether it's "worth" it.

But, I will make a special exception, and pose this question, which (probably safer and sounder) player are you NOT getting to be able to "take the punt" on Cazorla?

Pretty good. No issues whatsoever, if I was being anal I'd say Pog might not be the greatest pick.. 5.0 for the DGW but he will be hard to transfer out seeing as how there are next to no other striker options at the same price.. unless you have cash in the bank

remember chelsea don't play in GW3 so if you plan to transfer out its gonna be hard. I'm guessing you're going Torres to Roonpig and who were you trading Mata to? I would upgrade at least one of your keepers, or you'll be left behind on keeper points alone.

Ugh this RVP move really causes a lot of problems.

United's fixtures are great weeks 2-4 and you need captains from them. The question is, who?

I think I may just stick with Rooney. RVP is a creator too, and Rooney's goal output will most likely only improve with RVP in the side.

I reckon Rooneys goals will go down but his assists will go up. He's still in my team though in the basis that he'll be on penos, hes cheaper and IMO he's still nailed on.

You think Rooney might play deeper like he did last season? They now have an option up front and will not lack for goals like they did with Wellbeck.

I think the opposite. I think they'll push Rooney up front and give RVP license to roam and create behind him.

RVP is a much more accomplished player in this position, and they'll be looking for Rooney to do the goal scoring.

I think rooney will do well, he'll play in the same position he does now. They replaced wellbeck/hernandez for rvp thats all

most rooney's goals come from freekicks or running late into the area and even headers now. its the pens that are the question. i think rooney will have to stay on pens, he will grab them

It's a really tough call. Do you think both will start every game, or will Fergie rotate them now and again with the likes of Kagawa, Welbeck, Chico etc. I think one MUN attacker is essential from GW2-4, currently keeping 3.0m in the bank and will make a (slightly) informed punt on Torres -> one of the big 2 up top in GW2.

Amongst all of this craziness, I think I have come to a consensus on a great team with 3 big hitters.

    Schwarzer / Green
    Ivanovic / Zabaleta / Cuellar / Clyne / McCartney
    Bale / Kagawa / Pienaar / Maloney / Marveaux
    Aguero / Tevez / Torres
    +0.5 for Rooney GW2

The reason behind three big hitters is simple. By removing one more big midfielder, all i have done is replaced him with a big forward, therefore a straight swap. Although it does not make the team any more attractive, the overwhelming amount of points that the forward will outscore the midfielder outweighs the less expensive striker.

That is my thinking, advice on why it may not be right is welcomed. JUst thought I would offer an opinion. 🙂

Good reasoning, but I wouldn't pick some of the players you have.

Defense is almost the same. Goalies slightly different.

But up top, you have some picks which are a little too punty for me.

For a 4.5 mid, you want a reliable bench sitter. Someone who'll play 90 every game and get 2 or 3 points off the bench in case of emergency. Marveaux won't play 90 every week.

Then in midfield, Kagawa's potential looks like it's taken a big dent thanks to RVP.
Pienaar's fantasy record isn't great and Everton are traditionally slow starters.
And your strikers necessitate an early transfer too.

Not saying it's bad, but there are risks there you can avoid.

It's good, I wouldn't do the money bank thing. It hurts the rest of your team too much. Just buy RVP right away. One gameweek isn't going to change anything really considering you save the transfer.

Team otherwise is strong. Defense a bit too heavy for me considering you have to bench two, but if you're game...

It saves you a transfer. You'll be thankful for those once the season starts.

Personally I'd just get Torres and keep him. Chelsea have no other striker, and he looks like he's coming back in.

If you've planned your team properly, which I'm sure most people have, then you'll know what transfers you plan to make in any case! Chelsea have no game in GW3 and Torres was an absolute flop in Fantasy last year. He's definitely worth a punt for the DGW but I'll definitely be shifting him out for RVP or Rooney come GW2...

We'll see. It might well pay off, but I prefer to keep my options open.

I don't want to have to make a transfer out of necessity. As I said, injuries, form players, bandwagons, these things are nigh on impossible to prepare for. I want to have the transfers available just in case.

Also, what if Torres scores 3 goals over those two games? His price will rocket to 10.2 or even 10.3. Will you really shift him so easily if that happens? That's price rise money which will help you long term for the rest of the season..

And, you're picking Torres because you think he'll do WELL. If you don't believe in him, why do you even have him at all?

I think the main risk with RVP is that he doesn't start GW1, which is very possible imo (no time to train with the squad). Then you're on RVP (0) vs Torres (Decent DGW).

I'm seriously considering downgrading Hangelaand to a 4.0m also.

          Yeah it's what I did.

chances that A) hazard plays both games.

I don't think Carzola is as good an option as what he is made out to be. A fantastic player but in terms of Fantasy.. he has scored 9 goals in Spain since 2003.. wouldn't exactly call that prolific! I'd prefer Valencia, Mata, Silva ahead of him

They will all be rotated though. Cazorla has no competition in his position behind the main striker. He scored 9 goals in 34 league games last year (not since 2003). Loads of assists too apparently

        Your statistics are wrong.

He scored 9 goals last season for Malaga alone. Considering Van Der Vaart got 11 and Bale got 10, I'd say that's pretty darn good.

Not to mention all the assists. I think he'll be a fine FPL player.

interesting stats Camzy and 9 goals for sure is good but two arguments-

          A. In a better team he will get more chances

          B. In a better team others will shine and he wont get as many mins.

Those are good arguments, but I think it's win-win for Cazorla.

            1. He's in the prime of his career and is playing the best football of his life.
            2. He'll have free license to run the show at Arsenal since he has no real competition for his position.
            3. He has better, more accomplished teammates at Arsenal to supply and to get creative chances from.

From what I can see, it can only be good news from here.

It's a case of big fish moving to a bigger pond.

Tevez went from United to City. United moved on and so did City.
I just personally don't like the fact of how Arsenal fans in general treat their players. I go Emirates quite a bit and the atmosphere towards the players is unacceptable. If they're having a bad game they'll be boo's and jeers which are uncalled for, but if they perform good they get loved up. 😐

    DDG Begovic
    Clyne Rangel Terry Demel Gunter
    Taraabt Mata Michu Nani Noble
    Tevez Bent Rooney

How does it look? Don't want more than 2 chelsea players, because there's no one that I would particularly want in the first place in my team and taking them out will be a pain..
I of course could downgrade mata to lampard and upgrade bent to podolski or change nani to cazorla, I'll also be transferring mata to VDV GW 2
