As City await knee scans on Sergio Aguero , Samir Nasri is the main protagonist as his side continue their penchant for 3-2 thrillers by coming back to see off Southampton. Carlos Tevez and Rickie Lambert both open their Premier League accounts for the season, while Eden Hazard and Branislav Ivanovic help steer Chelsea to a comfortable win at the DW in Sunday’s early game:

Samir Nasri
While David Silva fluffed his lines by missing a spot-kick and crashing a close-range effort off the bar, Nasri served a reminder of his potential in the City midfield with a solid showing. Last weekend, he was handed a role in “the hole†in the 3-4-1-2 system and produced a goal and assist against Chelsea – despite moving out wide as City shifted back to 4-4-2, the Frenchman replicated last week’s returns to steer his side to victory and deny Southampton a famous win. At 8.5 in FPL compared to Silva’s 10.0, Nasri looks a more than decent alternative right now, with the Spaniard seemingly slightly off the pace after a lack of pre-season matches.

Carlos Tevez
The Tevez v Aguero debate raged for days on the site after the former’s strong display in last weekend’s Community Shield and he continued his pre-season form with the opener in yesterday’s 3-2 thriller. The case for his inclusion in our Fantasy teams could well be considerably strengthened, depending on Aguero’s upcoming knee scan – Tevez may also be set to move up the spot-kick pecking order after Silva’s dire miss yesterday and could well be first-choice if Aguero and Mario Balotelli are not on the pitch; that 9.0 price tag is looking more enticing by the day.

Rickie Lambert
A goal on his Premier League debut just minutes after climbing off the bench capped a fairy-tale beginning for the Southampton striker but his omission from the first XI could well be a worry for Fantasy suitors. Nigel Adkins preferred the more dynamic Jay Rodriguez as the lone striker – a tactic he may well choose to deploy in certain away matches, with Lambert’s eye for goal perhaps saved for the final half hour or so. With a home clash against Wigan to follow next week, we should get more of an idea as to how the Saints will line up at St Mary’s – Adkins had consistently rolled out a 4-3-2-1 system in pre-season but could revert to 4-4-2 in front of his own supporters.

Eden Hazard
His Fantasy ownership had taken a dip prior to the season kick-off after a less than inspiring domestic debut in last weekend’s Community Shield but, with Wednesday’s game against Reading still to follow, the Belgian has his nose in front of Frank Lampard in the scoring order after accruing a pair of assists at Wigan. The summer signing was a shade more popular than Juan Mata in FPL heading into the double Gameweek, with 12.9% to 12.8% ownership reflecting our dilemma but, while Mata toiled in “the holeâ€, Hazard’s fleet-footed ball skills tore the Latics defence apart and helped him to a nine point pre-bonus return. While Lampard’s spot-kick duties delivered yet again, the Belgian looked in the mood early on and, having been subbed off on 64 minutes, should be fit to start on Wednesday once more.

Branislav Ivanovic
The Serbian was the fourth most popular Chelsea defender in FPL (5.8% ownership) heading into the Gameweek, with Ashley Cole snapped up by over 23% in comparison but he stole the show with a strong attacking display from right-back. A goal and clean sheet harvested a 12 point haul but Ivanovic looks a good bet for bonus today and with the Reading game still to come, could be set to kick off the season with a bumper score. Recent reports suggest Roberto Di Matteo is shopping around for another right-back but if the Stamford Bridge outfit fail to bring anyone else in, Ivanovic is making a strong case for our consideration over the campaign ahead.

If Aguero is out of action for a while, is Aguero & Torres > Tevez & RVP/Rooney worth a 4 point hit? I'll be wanting Tevez anyway so may as well cash in before the price rise, plus I'd like more United coverage than just DDG for their upcoming games

I'm tempted to do the same, although I'm doing it over 2 Gameweeks (Aguero to Tevez now, then Torres to Rooney most likely).

Even if Aguero is only out for a while if that, Tevez is on form, very cheap for his price and he will almost certainly go up so you'll make 0.1 anyways.

Yeah definitely doing the Tevez one this week. You don't think RVP/Rooney might score 4 more than Torres to make it worthwhile? (coming from a Fulham fan)

Good point actually... didn't see the Fulham game, but from the highlights you looked class in attack but weren't tested in defence at all - so no idea how you will defend.

Could be worth waiting for the Man Utd game today, see how good they look up top and how the system works or who plays before deciding.

DWG + Reading should have had a cleanie if not for Fed's blunder. Also liked the fixtures in GW 9-10, when ManU play che, ARS slightly better for Reading than Stoke - Fulham at home and QPR away against Sunderland at home and Norwich away.

Bale has the fixture and is better at home. I'm always nervous about captaining a spurs player after last season...one of VDV, Bale, Ade did well...I never seemed to get the right one.

I actually rate VDV for this game... I'm biased as I own him, but can see him starting and being on pens. Spurs looked far more attacking when he came on...opened the play up more, even if he was responsible for the penalty cock up.

Michu who? Players I'm most nervous not owning are Rooney and RVP. One of them looks key to me over the coming weeks and especially against FUL, sou.

Michu looks a great player, but far more pressing transfers lie in the weeks ahead involving the red half of Manchester. Carzola is another who could do some serious damage. I'd like to see him over the gameweek before deciding, but he looks a fine replacement for Mata in gwk3 at the moment.

Do you think it'll be worth a hit to get RVP over Rooney, if he is the striker tonight, and Rooney is much deeper?

I don't think its worth taking a hit at all this early. You should always have at least two good captain choices each week. Get Rooney for no hit or rely on whoever else you have. I planned this week to be able to get RVP with no hit but still not sure I'll get him. RVP being a striker, while Rooney being an all round midfield, attacking player, sways me towards RVP at the moment.

I'd like RVP but I just cannot see him being worth 13.0 That means having another nobody in midfield as opposed to having a good striker plus a midfield big hitter. No way will he outscore TWO good players

You never know, Rvp it seems will be lone striker for United and if he takes the odd peno(anything is possible just look at Silva and Barfa yesterday!) and setpieces anything is possible. It's more likely Rooney might go thru a lean spell like he did last year I think than Rvp.

If the 6.5 milfs keep on scoring then Rvp might just be worth it.

I think it looks really appealing. Liverpool withouth Agger, a leaky QPR and three other matches where I won't be surprised to see 2+ goals from City.

I would like them both. Not at least because they're cheaper than other top teams alternatives. Nasri/Tevez vs Cazorla/Rooney = 3.5 extra tu upgrade a midfielder or a forward to a good looking player.

Liverpool are a mess at the moment. QPR also. Stoke no opposition.
City should be able to do a job on Arsenal at home and Fulham - draw specialists but 2-2 still looks good for Tevez if he scores and City should have enough to win again anyway.

This really depends on how MU and Everton start tonight, but who would you bench?

Dyer (WHM), N'Zogbia (EVE), or Petric (mun)? Mind you that I'm fielding Vorm and Michu, so Dyer might rest avoiding calamitous Swansea (in a home game against West Ham, yes I fully aware of that).

Guess I just haven't learned from GW1 enough (Dyer on 1st sub)

    Hey Guys,

I don't know if you will find it useful but here you can find a comparison between Scout Picks and various others Fantasy Football sites in terms of total points earned from their respective suggested teams.

At this point Scout picks is first with 60 points

The highest scoring defender/midfielder/forward is marked in yellow.

You can't really compare benches, but I included them anyway. However I did not add the points of the bench to the total points.

    http://oi45.tinypic.com/15fobhw.jpg

In case someone is interested in this comparison, please let me know in order for me to post the updated file after the end of this GW as well as for the coming GWs.

Also the budget is not relevant, they should just provide the best players for the positions. Otherwise you would need to factor in price rises which is difficult because they would not be a factor if you kept that player from early in the season.

Having the suggested best players listed offers us fantasy managers a tool to compare our own teams which won't be the same because we will have own punts and budget alternatives (i.e. Tevez in place of Aguero this week).
