Marouanne Fellaini towers above the United defence to earn three points for Everton as Sir Alex Ferguson’s side are shackled, with Robin Van Persie reduced to a cameo role. Here’s the stock check following the Goodison clash…

On The Up

Marouanne Fellaini
Pushed up in support of Nikaca Jelavic, the big Belgian was imperious and led the line with strength and composure. It’s not clear if David Moyes will persist with Fellaini in the role, with Steven Naismith and new signing Kevin Mirallas, the Everton boss clearly has options. However, this promises to be a big season for Fellaini and at 6.5 in the FPL and 4.7 in the Sky Sports Game, Fantasy managers may well be rethinking Steven Pienaar as the protagonist in Everton’s midfield ranks.

The Everton Defence
Moyes’ rearguard was defiant throughout and magnificent to a man. Leighton Baines delivered his first clean sheet of the season – he remains the luxury item in the Toffees back four but, on this form, a strong haul of clean sheets over the season could be in the offing to help justify the outlay.

David De Gea
While United struggled in attacking terms, De Gea stood firm against a first half blue tide, pulling off notable saves to keep the score deadlocked at the interval. With Anders Lindegaard breathing down his neck, the Spaniard has to produce. Tonight he was arguably United’s most impressive performer – he had to be.

Going Down

Wayne Rooney
Rooney was the danger man for United but Sir Alex Ferguson’s attacking players were far from potent. While they dominated possession and passed the ball well, they lacked a cutting edge and a direct threat. Rooney’s owners will go into the weekend clash with Fulham concerned that Robin Van Persie will be called upon to provide that, while Rooney retreats deep.

United’s Widemen
Ferguson appeared to allow his attacking players fluidity with Shinji Kawaga and Rooney interchanging up front or drifting deep to pick up the ball. The uncertainty surrounding Kawaga’s role and the likelihood of a Rooney/Van Persie pairing will cause concern. It appears we could see Nani, Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young, Danny Welbeck and Kawaga competing for two starts in wide areas throughout the season.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Certainly is! I'm not sure if Ramires will start and for me I'd look to get him out at some point, probably for Michu, but other than bringing Michu in I'd hold on. If however it's for Michu it may be worth it as he may well go up another .1 this GW and with West Ham at home he's got a good chance of some points there. Hope that makes sense!

Looks very good, I'm actually suprised you can afford that, which is always a good sign. I'm not so sure about your captain choice though, despite playing 90 minutes this gameweek. I'm looking at Tevez/Torres (depending how he plays against Reading) and even Michu as my captain.

    Sorry to repost:

What do people think is a better idea?
a)Take a hit this GW and get Kagawa for Lamps.
b)Take a hit next gameweek and get any midfielder for Lamps, probably Bale or Kagawa.
c)Dont take a hit, and just Bench Lampard for GW3?

Already have Rooney, Rafael and VDV

I'd be tempted to take the hit personally (a), but wouldn't expect a price rise for Kagawa so (b) is probably the most logical choice.

I agree. Kagawa played a very, very nice game tonight and will score points, but whether he's able to be relied upon to start enough games is yet to be seen. If he starts at home to Fulham I'd hope for a good round from him but there's no need to take a 4 point hit on a risk that won't necessarily start (and won't price rise on my estimations).

Will Aguero fall tonight? totalfpl doesn’t think so but FISO does. Anybody know the rules from last night for rising and falling? One of them (rising or falling) was a set figure (like 23456 or something) and the other was a 10% change in ownership but I can’t remember which is which.

So it seemed to me that even with both Rooney and RVP on the pitch, Kagawa was still effectively playing in the hole, with Rooney out left. Kagawa then potentially a fixture in their line up with Nani, Valencia and Young fighting over one place. Thoughts?

To clarify, SAF started with a certain team that failed, and didn't play RVP because of fitness issues, then he made some subs to try to save it. Having learnt Nani is a bit useless and with RVP getting fitter, it could all be reshuffled.

I suspect against lesser teams where Everton are more likely to dominate the ball they won't need the outlet of Fellaini up front. Naismith may do that role with Fellaini dropping deeper to dominate the game from there. Pienaar long term still the pick for me.

IMO both will end up with same points at the end of season.... But today Fellaini looked really dangerous , could have had an assist or 2 ...

      I'm staying with Pienaar becuase:

      a) He played well and got into scoring positions. Therefore, it would be a waste of a transfer, he'l come good.
      b) We (everton fan) don't have much cover in defensive midfield now Rodwell has left; just Neville and Gibson (and neville can hardly make 90 mins anymore). I can see Fellaini being brought back a bit deeper if we take the lead or if Neville needs a rest.

So, I say stick with Pienaar.

I'm away for a few days do missed the game tonight.
    I hear Kagawa was good.
    Are the Baps in?

Shall I do Petric to Graham or Ireland to Dyer for my FT?
ManU scdefence seems a bit light, maybe I should play Petric??

I wouldn't be transferring Petric out at all, Ireland to Dyer seems much more logical.

Well if you want Dyer you are gonna need to do it tonight because he is gonna go up in price for sure.
United defence suffered due to the height of the opposition... they will deal with fulham better next week for sure.

Gw3-4 wildcard anyway so I'll bring Petric back

You have to be decisive in FPL - "waiting and seeing" and being patience is overrated on here.

    Ramires / Aguero > Dyer / RVP

Done. 4 point investment. Move on.

Got a great team (in theory!) for this wkend...cue 36 points

Sometimes, but you've got to weigh it up and go for it sometimes before prices change. There's a fine line between patience and faffing about

          True story.....
Last year after the ACON I wanted a Newcastle striker, Ba or Cisse, had exactly enough for Ba but he was due to go up, so I panicked and got him
In at the start of the week. If I had been patient I would have had Cisse for his run

Most stunningly obvious thing about this weekend?

I want a midfield of at least Hazard, Cazorla, Kagawa, and Michu.

I don't care about any particular forwards or defenders right now.

Do saves carry over from game to game in a DGW? Federici has 2 saves already, if he makes one more in the CHE match will he get 1 point or does he start a fresh on Wednesday?

For some reason I think they carry over? Not sure at all though.

Guys is this deal worth it for an 8point hit?

Torres, Aguero & Mata —> Tevez, RVP & __(9m region player)_

If so who would you choose from this list?

    A.) Cazorla
    B.) Nasri
    C.) Kagawa

Depends if you think Tevez will go up .1 and whether that'd be disastrous for you. I'd stick with Torres, get rid after next GW (unless he utterly fails midweek then maybe act sooner), lose Aguero for RVP / Tevez and hold out on Mata until after midweek. If you did transfer him out I wouldn't go for Cazorla with Stoke away up next, Nasri or Kagawa for me.
