This season we’ll be running a couple of weekly articles which focus specifically on our two supported Fantasy games, the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and the Sky Sports Fantasy game. While those articles will differ in content, they both give us the opportunity to recognise the front-runners in our respective leagues, giving a nod to our community’s outstanding Fantasy managers. We’ll also use them to examine trends and patterns in the games, with particularly emphasis on transfer activity. We start with this week’s FPL focus…

Scout League Standings

David Byers leads the way with a monster 95 point haul on the board already. Michu and Mladen Petrov chipped in with 34 points between them, while a trio of City players earned him 14 points. With three Chelsea players still to feature tomorrow evening – including captain Branislav Ivanovic – he looks set to improve upon his overall ranking of 19 already.

Sitting in second place, Steve Woods is another to benefit hugely from Petric and Michu, with Ivanovic also handed the armband. He also heads into tomorrow’s match with three Blues players, though while our top two both have Juan Mata, Steve has Ashley Cole to David’s Fernando Torres.

Mark Durham is in third place, thanks to Michu and Petric amongst others; he has two Chelsea players for the Reading clash, though Eden Hazard arrives at the Bridge with the armband. Will Chen is next up on 93 points, despite having Fernando Torres as captain – Michu, Petric, Samir Nasri, Kevin Nolan and Ivanovic all returned double figures for him, while Neil Glenister completes the top five – again, Petric, Michu and an armband on Ivanovic was crucial to his cause.

For the Contributors, Greek Fan has been quickest out the blocks. West Ham pair Jussi Jaaskelainen and Kevin Nolan returned 16 points, while Ivanovic, Yaya Toure and Carlos Tevez all produced attacking returns. He still has three Chelsea players for tomorrow, with Torres handed the armband.

The Market Trends

Unsurprisingly, Michu leads the way with almost 100,000 Fantasy managers snapping up the Spaniard’s services on the back of his 18 point debut haul at QPR. With Swansea now facing five home games in the next seven, Michu has increased in price to 6.6 in FPL and, given his side’s added attacking thrust under Michael Laudrup, the trend in ownership looks set to continue. Nathan Dyer is also proving popular – priced at 5.5, he has been acquired by nearly 55,000 teams since returning a brace and maximum bonus points at Loftus Road.

Carlos Tevez has proven to be the second most popular Fantasy target. With doubts surrounding Sergio Aguero’s knee problem, Tevez has been transferred in by over 80,000 Fantasy managers and is the only other player to have risen in cost, up to 9.1 after his opener against Southampton. Mladen Petric has picked up 41,000 new suitors after his 16 point haul against Norwich on Saturday but, with three away trips in the next four, including a Gameweek 2 visit to Old Trafford, he could struggle to justify the investment right now.

The respective displays of Branislav Ivanovic and Eden Hazard against Wigan on Sunday has seen the pair make their way into a combined 84,000 teams, despite the fact that Chelsea have a blank Gameweek 3 on the horizon. Newcastle pair Hatem Ben Arfa and Demba Ba make their way to the Bridge this weekend and have also featured highly in Fantasy managers’ estimations after they both found the net against Spurs – a combined total of almost 68,000 have jumped on board for the Magpies duo.

Unsurprisingly, Sergio Aguero is top for transfers out, with over 109,000 already selling on the Argentine after he pulled up early with a knee problem against Southampton. Juan Mata and Fernando Torres have both been subject to significant sales – despite having a game against Reading tomorrow, many Fantasy managers have already lost patience, with a combined 30,000 shipping the Blues pair out.

Ramires’ absence through illness at the DW on Sunday has seen 35,000 part company with the Brazilian – priced at 7.0, a move to Michu has been the likely trade to make here ahead of Swansea’s fixtures, though he has since been fit to play in tomorrow night’s match with Reading. Liverpool new boy Joe Allen has lost over 30,000 Fantasy backers already, while at the back, Fabricio Coloccini and Jose Enrique’s weekend absences has seen almost 17,000 and 16,000 move on the pair already.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I always get the last post on a page! Reposting....

A lot will depend on tonight’s game, but initial thoughts?

    a) Play this lot for GW2 and then Torres -> RVP/Ade for GW3 (benching Lamps). Seems the sensible approach, but no MUN attack is a concern, and I’m not totally convinced by Bale(c) right now.

    b) Do Torres -> RVP/Ade this week (for a hit) and captain them, then Lamps -> a top tier mid in GW3 (e.g. Kagawa, Santi, Nasri etc)

    c) Something else

    De Gea
    Zabaleta, Cuellar, Clyne
    Lampard, Bale(c), Michu, Pienaar
    Torres, Tevez, Podolski

    Bank 3.0m
    Federici, Guthrie, McCartney, Hughes

Pod has a great fixture in GW4 though...

Pod -> Ade this week is also an option if it seems likely Ade will start.

I have been considering A and B myself, although i do have Valencia for MUN coverage (But i will probably swap him to Caz at some point).

If Torres is shocking (2 points) again against reading then i may consider the Hit (B). If not i will prob do A with the possibility of benching him gw3 (as he is my only CHE cover).

For now though i am sitting on A. With just 27 points this week I simply can't afford to lose 4 more, and i think RVp could do with a bitmore settling (plus FUL isn't easy).

Yeah, I think I'll base my move on Torres' performance tonight. If he flops again then Torres could be on his way out.

That said, Podolski has a couple of tough fixtures coming up, so perhaps Pod -> Ade for a hit this week is the way to go?....

No, not Ade yet. If you are set on Ade then definitely hold off on taking a Torres hit. I would only take the hit for RVP/Roon (but preferably RVP).

Just watched the highlights of Everton vs United if it wasnt for De gea Everton could have easily scored four or five goals Which I guess is positive signs for De Gea and Everton attack. My current coverage are jellyfish and pienaar.

Pienaar had a few threatening moments, but with Fellani in such form he won't touch the "hole" (excuse the horrible innuendo) for a while, which could definitely see Fellani scoring more in the short term.

Long term i think Pienaar is the best EVE coverage though, Baines would be my 2nd choice for long term (seems like he might be back in form this season).

lol @ the horrible innuendo 😀

But I agree that Pienaar may still 'blossom' into *the* Everton guy to have ... I was just saying that in that Eve team that was moving the ball so well, that Pienaar just looked a piece of the machine, not really standing out. But I guess Fellaini having a massive game will do that.

Being part of a well oiled machine can be good 🙂 , as long as he gets the points out 😛

I think he will probably outscore Fellani and the like ove the season as I see Naismith/Mirallas also playing in the "hole" which will result in Fellani dropping back.

i've doubled up by getting dyer on top of michu, same principle. everton and villa have pretty good fixtures, but swansea's are significantly better still, and you're doubling up on everton currently.... so maybe pienaar?

looking at your team i'd be more worried about cahill though. blank week GW3 for chelsea AND he's competing with luiz and potentially ivanovic in the near future.

spurs play at home to west brom GW2 which could be a win but is hardly gonna be a goalfest, he's barely more likely to score than torres. gw3 meanwhile is at home to norwich, and chelsea don't play, so it's much more crucial to have him in then.

just having 3 CHE players isn't enough to warrant a hit IMO. you have two free transfers before then and should, in theory, have players on the bench who can adequately cover for the remaining guy.

    Evening folks.

Bought Seasons 1+2 of Breaking Bad yesterday and nearly done half of the first season. Have to say it truly is as good as it's said to be!
    **NO SPOILERS PLEASE**

On another note, despite my shite gameweek, my team is looking like this for GW2:

    DDG
    Terry-Cuellar-Zab
    Bale-Mata-Michu-Larsson
    Torres-Tevez-Graham

2.0 in the bank. Should i still do Torres->Rooney(C) as planned? Or are there any other preferable transfers?

If you like Season 1, you'll really enjoy every season after.

Your team is very strong for the next GW so you should get a decent amount of points. I'd do the Torres to Rooney transfer just because Rooney is the best United option and they have 3 very nice fixtures coming up.

your sarcasm is noted 😛 but regardless of blind bandwagon-jumping it remains a great transfer, swansea's fixtures are the best in the league and he's one of the cheapest midfielders to play such a threatening role. swansea are perfectly geared toward getting the best from a player in that position, too. hence why i had him from the start 😉
