The flag stayed down to allow Fernando Torres to deliver on a night that saw Hazard sparkle again. Brave Reading went home with nothing but put up a fight as their budget options confirmed their potential. Let’s check the stock…

On the Up

Eden Hazard
Five assists marks a remarkable start to Hazard’s Fantasy season and already confirms him as a major Fantasy asset. He’s mesmerising skill and pace, combined with the freedom to join the attack from all areas, has thrust Hazard to the top of our midfield shopping list – once the Gameweek 3 blank has passed of course.

Frank Lampard
Lampard may well rely on spot-kicks for returns but with Hazard in the side, he looks set to get plenty of them. The Belgian’s tricky feet are drawing fouls, seemingly handing Chelsea deadballs and penalties aplenty.

Fernando Torres
Torres left it late but he eventually delivered on the captaincy with a goal that just about justified the faith shown in him. We will still look to Hazard and wonder what might have been, while Robin Van Persie still looks ridiculously tempting for those with the funds to wave goodbye to El Nino for the weekend. It’s still a big decision for those with cracks elsewhere and with bandwagons rolling.

Pavel Pogrebnyak
The Russian delivered on his budget promise with a superb glancing header to bring Reading on terms. Pogrebnyak looks destined to lead the line home and away for the Royals and, as we’ve stressed all through the pre-season, offers a superb third striker option for those looking to reserve funds.

Danny Guthrie
Talking of budget options, Reading look to have a mix of them. The widemen Jobi McAnuff and Gareth McClearly put in strong displays again but it will be Guthrie, playing up in support of the lone striker and at just 4.5 in the Fantasy Premier League game, that will rouse interest.

Going Down

Petr Cech
A calamitous error for Reading’s second goal drew visible frustration from manager Roberto Di Matteo and will give cause concern for those holding Chelsea defenders. We’ve seen his confidence waver in previous seasons. Worrying.

Juan Mata
While Hazard, Lampard and Torres delivered returns, Mata was the odd one out, offering two blanks over the double Gameweek. We know that Di Matteo is planning a rest for the playmaker, while it’s doubtful that this will start early against Newcastle, it’s not out of the question given the jaded performances so far.

Adam Le Fondre
Brian McDermot started tonight’s game in a 4-5-1, pushing Guthrie up to support Pogrebnyak. Le Fondre dropped to the bench then and will presumably be at risk when Reading are on the road.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Hard to know who's right but FISO have no one over
100 % to rise just yet but Total FPL have Tevez
Petric, Ivanovic and Hazard ready to rise might depend
on how oftem they refresh their stats.
Not sure if there will be a rise tonight of course.

If I remeber correctly one was more accurate on
rises and the other falls last season but I can't
    recall which was which.

Hazard (c) and michu were there in my team until a brilliant idea came to my head – I can get tot cover AND chelsea midfield cover with vdv and Ramirez and I can captain Torres.
Did that just 24 hours before kick off.

Only cost about 50 points. No biggie.

I’m going to go Toni Scott right now. Need a bridge.

Looking at the stats, Hazard had a lot of attempts off target. Under this stupid bonus system that's seen as a bad thing. On the other hand, Cahill scored and won a bunch of aerial duels. Don't be surprised if he gets the 3....

to anyone wanting to get rid of mata:

    1. don't transfer out for hazard. yes hazard got 5 assists in 2 games but he has a blank in gw 3 so its a waste of a transfer. better to get him in gw 4 if you really want him
    2. this is obviously my opinion but best bets to get in for mata if you don't already have him are bale and michu
    3. after that i'd go for cazorla or kagawa. kagawa has better fixtures for now but uncertainty over his role/nailed on ness. however he looked pretty good on the weekend as many know. you'll just have to hope united isn't quite as toothless up front again

Mata. Ramires. Michu on the bench. I hate this game.

Yep, does put a dampener on what would otherwise be an amazing game to watch. Still, 37 GW's to make it up.

Though it might deserve a repost...

Torres has his knockers and quite justified they may be, but he should’ve had 2 goals laid on a plate in the first half. One when Ramires tried to curl one in with his left, and another relatively simple cross that Hazard didn’t make contact with well (ok, he’s allowed one!).

His movement really is alright and reasonably sharp, I just don’t think he’s getting the rub of the green, plus he’s not being played in at the right time. Could be an understanding thing with Hazard and Oscar.

Absolutely no problem with those transferring him out. Just don’t think it’s all doom and gloom for those not taking a hit before GW2.

The modern games is evolving too. Strikers are now occupying the centrebacks, and goals are coming from the midfielders playing inbetween the lines. Hazard looks a must from GW4 onwards.

yeah i thought gnev did a great piece on how this wonderful game is changing the other nite on sky and agree wholeheartedly on ur torres points......not so easy to get rid untill we know who else chelsea are signing, without another striker at 10 million he looks to me like a must have, balnk gameweeks allowing that is 😉

He needs to get back to basics and get his first touch in order as his ball retention was really poor. It's the worst thing in football when the team work hard for the ball and it's not sticking up front. Makes the team have to work much harder than they need to. Pleased he got the goal as my captain. I think with him playing as the solo striker it's difficult to find him in the final third especially when Chelsea have so much movement going forward.

Partly agree, partly feel Torres owners got astonishingly lucky.

The way I see it Torres will need to be good BEFORE I buy him, I'm not taking the chance to catch him just at the right time again.

      fair post

(Torres would probably have fluffed the silver platters from Ram and Haz though 😉 )

Technically Torres' movement was brilliant, if he gets the delivery he will get 20+ goals plus this year

He can't even hang onto the ball and just ends up running into dead ends. Yes he's not being played in, but maybe there is a lack of confidence from his teammates and rightly so. Chelsea need at least another striker and a right back.

He still lacks confidence, but I believe if he gets the delivery this year with the addition of Hazard and Oscar, I don't see why he can't score alot of goals
