The flag stayed down to allow Fernando Torres to deliver on a night that saw Hazard sparkle again. Brave Reading went home with nothing but put up a fight as their budget options confirmed their potential. Let’s check the stock…

On the Up

Eden Hazard
Five assists marks a remarkable start to Hazard’s Fantasy season and already confirms him as a major Fantasy asset. He’s mesmerising skill and pace, combined with the freedom to join the attack from all areas, has thrust Hazard to the top of our midfield shopping list – once the Gameweek 3 blank has passed of course.

Frank Lampard
Lampard may well rely on spot-kicks for returns but with Hazard in the side, he looks set to get plenty of them. The Belgian’s tricky feet are drawing fouls, seemingly handing Chelsea deadballs and penalties aplenty.

Fernando Torres
Torres left it late but he eventually delivered on the captaincy with a goal that just about justified the faith shown in him. We will still look to Hazard and wonder what might have been, while Robin Van Persie still looks ridiculously tempting for those with the funds to wave goodbye to El Nino for the weekend. It’s still a big decision for those with cracks elsewhere and with bandwagons rolling.

Pavel Pogrebnyak
The Russian delivered on his budget promise with a superb glancing header to bring Reading on terms. Pogrebnyak looks destined to lead the line home and away for the Royals and, as we’ve stressed all through the pre-season, offers a superb third striker option for those looking to reserve funds.

Danny Guthrie
Talking of budget options, Reading look to have a mix of them. The widemen Jobi McAnuff and Gareth McClearly put in strong displays again but it will be Guthrie, playing up in support of the lone striker and at just 4.5 in the Fantasy Premier League game, that will rouse interest.

Going Down

Petr Cech
A calamitous error for Reading’s second goal drew visible frustration from manager Roberto Di Matteo and will give cause concern for those holding Chelsea defenders. We’ve seen his confidence waver in previous seasons. Worrying.

Juan Mata
While Hazard, Lampard and Torres delivered returns, Mata was the odd one out, offering two blanks over the double Gameweek. We know that Di Matteo is planning a rest for the playmaker, while it’s doubtful that this will start early against Newcastle, it’s not out of the question given the jaded performances so far.

Adam Le Fondre
Brian McDermot started tonight’s game in a 4-5-1, pushing Guthrie up to support Pogrebnyak. Le Fondre dropped to the bench then and will presumably be at risk when Reading are on the road.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Nasri atm. Cazorla can score, but I don't know about the guys in front of him. I already have Cazorla in my team, but if I were you I definitely would pick up Nasri if you are looking to make a transfer right now. You could wait and see how Nasri/Cazorla do against Liverpool/Stoke. I don't think Liverpool is going to be as easy a match as most people think, so I think you can hold tight for now.

After being all set to swap Torres out this week for RVP I've had a major change of heart. Mata is clearly now the assister of the assister (thanks Isaki article over night on FFS Euro) and needs to go first.

I think Torres can nick a goal, Mata cannot this weekend.

I have VDV already, but Bale is still the standout choice also for the armband.

But looking at the stats and the runaway leader as a replacement is Carzola....

Still need a captain option though. Dare I go for VDV, how about Tevez against Liverpool? Or Graham for a risk? Or go for Bale as my Mata replacement, captain him and hope spurs run riot?

    Any help appreciated.

      cheers all

      It's either going to be

      Mata - Carzola or Bale
      or...Torres to RVP.

Chelsea are the most intriguing team at the moment with their style completely favouring Cole, Ivan, Lampard and Hazard...while Torres distracts at the front and Mata becomes the new Modric (thanks again Isaki for that one).

What is clear is that from gwk 4 Hazard is key...

I'd put my money on it. Not just because I have him, but because Fergie said the squad wasn't played to his strengths. I think that means he'll switch it up just for RVP. I hope anyways. They didn't pay that much for him just to come off the bench all the time. RVP nearly got an assist last week, so he looks like he'll grab some points against Fulham.

I think I agree with BDWhite below... Kag or Cazorla. Cazorla might not have great fixtures, but I think he's a season keeper anyway and its only a matter of time before he explodes and the sheep come running

could always get united cover for gw3, if you aren't going to captain a united player there would be no rush bringing them in. also allows you to see how they settle next week

    Mornign chaps,

I'm away tommorow so gotta do my transfers today and having trouble deciding. 1 of my Chelsea boys has to go and I'm torn between

    A. Terry > Baines
    or
    B. Mata > Kagawa

Getting Baine sin was always the 'plan' but no United players in my team has me worried. Downside beign I'm not sure where Kagawa will play (may even be benched). Do you think its worth leaving United players one more week to see how they shape up with RVP in the side?

Delighted with Hazards start but how can a player assist 5 out of the 6 goals and still only get 1 bonus point? and on a similar note Baines gets all 3 bonus points over fellainis towering performance against Utd?this EPI system seems to be slightly weighted towards defenders who come forward.I held off on investing in expensive defenders due to last years lack of clean sheets but if these defenders now offer you a 6 pointer goal opportunity along with regular bonus points i might have to change my strategy. Ivan is a perfect example as well. Anyone else?

Ridgewell is another attacking defender and bps magnet and is great value at £5m, Chico/Saylor could be good options aswell so it doesn't need to be defenders in the £7m price range.

Lovely movement but some - Hazard in particular - seemed reluctant to pass to him. Bit worrying. Newcastle *should* be a slightly more open game - which would give him some space to run into which he didn't have last night. And that's where he does score.

    Mulling over: Mata + Torres > Pienaar + RVP(c) -4pts

I feel like the 'right' thing to do is hold off and do it for free next week.

But that captaincy option is tempting me big time. My other captain would either be Tevez - or Torres again (surely not!)
