The first gameweek of the season concludes tonight at Stamford Bridge, as Chelsea look to take an early lead at the top of the Premier League with victory over Reading. Their commitments in next week’s Super Cup brought this fixture forward, and the Dugout Discussion opens in anticipation of delightful double-gameweek points.

The team news for tonight’s encounter is in, and the sides will line-up as follows…

Chelsea XI: Cech, Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Cole, Lampard, Ramires, Mikel, Mata, Hazard, Torres.

Reading XI: Federici, Gunter, Pearce, Leigertwood, Harte, Karacan, McAnuff, Guthrie, Gorkss, Pogrebnyak, McCleary.

Both teams make two changes from their opening day line-ups. For the hosts, Ramires has recovered from the illness that kept him out at Wigan, with Ryan Bertrand making way, and Gary Cahill replaces the injured David Luiz. Reading replace Hal Robson-Kanu and Adam Le Fondre with Jem Karacan and Garath McCleary.

    It would be so wrong to complain that I took the armband off Ivanovic at the death and gave it to Torres, I also have Lamps so I won’t. Just happy to have them all… Hard to get rid..... :neutral;

    Thanks people for helping me consider Ivanovic over Cole. Brilliant work.
    And I can thank my own advice for going with Lampard over Mata/Ramires.

    Gotta pick and choose the right advice and trust your instincts. FFS is a great tool but don't let it drive every decision

    I genuinely don't know where to put my transfer?

    Noble - Ramires - Michu - Maloney - Bale
    Bent - Torres - Aguero
    2.0m in the bank

    Pre-RvP and pre-Aguero injury the plan was to shift Torres - Rooney and then Ramires but I don't fancy either Rooney or RvP for value this season now. I don't fancy Tevez, Ade or Cisse until fixtures and fitness become a little easier...

    Torres is a decent player, with a creative midfield behind him. And Chelsea's only real striking option. Worth sticking with for now, IMO.

    I might just do Mata > MU midfielder for the weekend.

    Torres has his knockers and quite rightly, but he should've had 2 goals laid on a plate in the first half. One when Ramires tried to curl one in with his left, and another relatively simple cross that Hazard didn't make contact with well (ok, he's allowed one!).

    His movement really is okay, I just don't think he's getting the rub of the green, plus he's not being played in at the right time. Could be an understanding thing with Hazard and Oscar.

    Absolutely no problem with those transferring him out. Just don't think it's all doom and gloom for those not taking a hit before GW2.

    The modern games is evolving too. Strikers are now occupying the centrebacks, and goals are coming from the midfielders playing inbetween the lines. Hazard looks a must from GW4 onwards.

      good post but David Pleat said Torres looked "incompetent at times"...basically he's pretty good until he touches the ball in my opinion

    92 points plus Cuellar to come off the bench, plus bonuses for tonight (Ivanovic, Hazard, Torres captain) should break 100 I reckon. If only I hadn't taken Michu out and transferred in Joe Allen at eleven o'clock on Saturday morning I could have had a monster score. Ah well, musn't grumble.

        I think he would have yeah. He was in my eleven until, like I say, I had a brainwave and put Allen in instead. The best part about it is that I did it to fund upgrading Figueroa to Vertonghen who didn't even play.

    A quick note about Torres as mentioned on talksport, technically Torres was amazing! He's movement and effort was 100% but until the goal came it seemed as though nobody wanted to set him up, and were taking things on themselves. If Torres gets the ball he will score, no doubt about it!

    Out of interest, what is the highest score a player has receieved in a single gameweek?
    I remember berbatov got 5 goals against blackburn and ended up getting 25points in one week. Has anyone topped that?

    Any advise? Im thinking mata to Hazard to save missing the boat on his price jump, i know its only two games but from what iv seen of hazard before he loves to run at people so i think his assists for pens will keep coming...
