With Chelsea skipping the Gameweek, the early season form of Swansea and Everton ensures that their Fantasy assets hold firm in our Watchlist rankings. Up front, both Carlos Tevez and Robin Van Persie continue to stand out as the heavyweights of choice…

Goalkeepers

Two clean sheets in two, it’s little wonder that we see Michel Vorm retain top spot in the keeper rankings. Tim Howard climbs to second off the back of Everton’s superb start to the season – his fixtures also improve in the coming weeks, and with Phil Jagielka and Sylvain Distin in such strong form, further clean sheets seem likely. Howard looks a good option in goal for those without the funds to stretch to the raiding Leighton Baines.

Joe Hart’s lack of clean sheets will be a concern but with Vincent Kompany now seemingly the only secure option in front of him, the City stopper’s stock takes a rise for the month ahead for those willing to spend in this area. Hart remains the favourite as top ranked keeper, despite the early stutters and is your “fire and forget” option.

West Brom’s Ben Foster looks a decent option in the mid-price along with Newcastle’s Tim Krul, who now begins to benefit from a stronger schedule. Meanwhile, Brad Friedel has the fixture list on his side but his stock has taken a knock following persistent speculation surrounding the signing of Hugo Lloris at Spurs. Wigan’s Ali Al-Habsi is your budget option lower down the rankings, with Jussi Jaaskaleinan also worth a glance or two.

Defenders

Angel Rangel retains top spot, having superseded team-mate Chico following the doubts surrounding the centre-back’s fitness going into the win over West Ham. Rangel justified the backing with a goal and clean sheet return, and with fixtures remaining strong, the enterprising right-back holds firm under pressure from Everton’s Leighton Baines in second. Baines’ form epitomises the Toffees right now and, if you’re investing heavily in your defence, the left-back looks the prize option on offer.

With clean sheets so hard to find, the temptation is to opt for cheap options and those defenders that offer attacking potential – Wigan’s Emmerson Boyce fits the bill in both cases and claims a spot in our top five courtesy of some strong short-term fixtures.

While City’s defensive returns have been non-existent, an improved fixture list, and the fact that he stands out as the only apparently secure option, boosts Vincent Kompany in our thinking for the month ahead. He clings to a top five spot, with Tottenham’s Kyle Walker just retaining his place in that select group.

There are a host of mid-price options to consider below that, with West Brom’s Liam Ridgewell and Newcastle’s Steven Taylor appearing to offer decent potential.

Midfielders

Our faith in Gareth Bale wavers but Tottenham’s fixtue list remains strong enough to help him retain his top ranking, holding off the charge from United’s Shinji Kagawa, who now looks set to benefit from Wayne Rooney’s injury with a run of assured starts.

In truth, Eden Hazard would be sitting on top of the rankings had it not been for his blank at the weekend so, right now, he looks up on the likes of Hatem Ben Afra, Yaya Toure, Michu and Marouanne Fellaini as mid-price options. The latter just gets the nod over team-mate Steven Pienaar, although it’s ridiculously close between them – Fellaini’s goal threat just gives him the edge right now, while he continues to be deployed in support of Nikaca Jelavic.

Forwards

It’s no surprise to see Carlos Tevez remain on top here following his returns at Anfield on Sunday. Robin Van Persie cements his second place rank following Rooney’s injury, while Newcastle’s Papiss Cisse is the significant climber in third. The Senegalese striker now has stronger fixtures to come and will surely be well backed to break his duck for the season against Aston Villa this weekend.

Both Nikica Jelevic and Emmanuel Adebayor surely have goals to come given their forthcoming schedules, while Swansea’s Danny Graham still looks the strongest option in the budget bracket over the next month, having opened his account in the win over West Ham.

Lower down there are some great differentials if you want them – Fulham’s Mladen Petric rivals Graham in the budget bracket, as does Wigan’s Arouna Kone who impressed with his first strike at Southampton in Saturday’s win.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

The Huntelaar to Liverpool line is complete rubbish.

Must admit that I was surprised that no-one had made a move for him over the summer break, as he hasn't signed a contract extension yet with Schalke 04, but Huntelaar is expected to do this soon, as the club have finally agreed to give him the buy-out clause that he was looking for.

    Having a backline dillema:
    GK: mig - beg

    clyne - baines - zabaleta - ridgwell - williams

    or

    clyne - baines - zabaleta - rafael - demel

with the second one i get manu manc and BAINES + 2 guys i dont intend to play really, but with the first one i get more options in case my initial judgment weren't good.
Also, no chelsea may not be so good, but i don't see them keeping that much clean sheets, and there is no price cut options except bertrand who i doubt is nailed on

How come there aren't more people with Bertrand in their teams? RDM seems to have a fetish for him and, whilst he's probably not nailed on, could be quite a decent OOP for £4.5m.

considering him. listed as defender but has been playing midfield so 4 point clean sheets while in attacking positions for 4.5 is a great bargain but without a game this week and not knowing if nailed on could be a waste of a transfer. but with only one real forward on chelsea there is certainly room for 5 mids to play each week so depending on any injuries could be rotated in quite a bit. but chelsea midfield is really crowded and will be very competitive to get starts.

      LOL...

i'm new to this and i had posted my 1st team on here for some insight, fair assessment was given - all good.
my 2nd team however got shot down and i had only tweaked it slightly...

turned out, Michu, Tevez & Hazard + the rest was a winning formula to start my season, but i will be saving that WC too!

my backline will be fairly weak, but i'm confident my frontline will fire!
RVP/Graham/Bale/Kagawa/Noble to grab the bonus points + a few 4pointers (hoping anyway)

I've already made my transfer this week, lampard-kagawa, mostly out of frustration that lamps didn't play! now regreting it, and now i've decided i want to do torres-rvp, vdv-hazard and then will change kagowa to ben arfa or some other mid priced mid...question is do i take a hit to get rvp in this week!!?? really thought i could go this season without taking a hit and it's only gw3 and i've nearly hit the button already!! So do i take the hit and captain rvp? surly he will cover the 4 points or show a bit of self control?

I'm about 50 points off the top of my mini-league already! Have 120 points which i thought was solid enough but obviously not...

So to recover some ground I'm thinking of doing the below for 4 pt hit

    Bent>Ba
    Lamps>Bale

    Would leave me with:

    DDG
    Zabaleta/Demel/Staylor
    Bale/VDV/Michu/Nasri/Maloney
    Tevez(c)/Ba
    (Begovic/Cuellar/Fabio/Torres)

    Worth the hit?

One suggestion for the Injuries and Bans section. Reference Joey Barton, please add the term one-man melee instead of melee, since no one else really participated and this captures. to a large extent, the essence of Joey Barton.

Donno about Michu, hes started well but I dont think he will keep it up. Invest in Graham if you want a Swansea player, hes better in the long run.

Hi guys. My team has fallen to pieces and I am not prepaired to use my WC , how do you guys think this team will do for GW3 its really the best I can do without taking another hit. already lost 4 points on transfers changed Rooney for RVP(Scared Rooneys price would drop) and Put in Kightly for Ireland. Anyway please let me know how you think this side will do this gw

    Friedel

    Collocini, Riise, Lescott, Cuellar

    Van Der Vaart, Kightly, Nasri

    Tevez(c) , RVP, Graham

Got Ruddy Clyne Lamps and Guthrie on bench so if vdv doesnt play I guess il have to settle with Clyne....

    Your thoughts are much appreciated

OK Guys. Leading in with this set up...

    Vorm (Cerny)
    Simpson, Mertesaker, Hangeland
Duff, Felaini, Michu (Yes that's the bandwagon right there), Kagawa,
    RVP, Tevez, Graham

    (Smith, Kelly, Hazard)

Seems ok to me but not entirely sure.
