Fantasy managers face an anxious wait after reports on Tuesday evening stated that Robin Van Persie was subbed off at half-time in Holland’s World Cup Qualifier due to a thigh knock. The Man United striker was replaced by Klaas-Jan Huntelaar for the second half of the 4-1 win over Hungary.

The Daily Mail were amongst the first news sources to report on the potential injury and they offer up a much tweeted quote from Dutch coach Louis van Gaal which, if confirmed, offers some reassurance on the extent of the problem…

“We took off Robin for precautionary measures. It doesn’t seem to be too serious, but you never know. We didn’t want to take any risks.”

Reports elsewhere are scarce at the time of writing, although the official site of the Dutch FA state that Van Persie did sustain a thigh injury and the BBC are also running a report. United have also recently picked up the news in their round-up of tonight’s international action…

“While Welbeck looked in good shape, the fitness of a fellow United forward could be a concern at Carrington as the Reds prepare for Saturday’s return to league action. Robin van Persie was substituted at half-time as the Netherlands won 4-1 in Hungary on Tuesday night, although quotes attributed to his national coach Louis van Gaal suggest the withdrawal was just a precautionary measure.”

With Shinji Kagawa missing Japan’s match with Iraq earlier on today due to a back problem, Sir Alex Ferguson may be facing an up-front headache for Saturday’s game with Wigan. Van Persie’s sensational form, which has harvested four goals in two starts since moving to Old Trafford, was set to make him an overwhelming armband candidate for Gameweek 4. Huge numbers have acquired his services across the Fantasy games in preparation for the Latics’ visit – they will be amongst many now hoping that the reported quotes are correct and that Van Persie’s withdrawal was no more than precautionary.

We’ll doubtless have more on this in the next 24-hours with Van Persie likely to undergo a full assessment back at Old Trafford.

I imagine RVP will be fine for Saturday. (I have Kagawa so, naturally, he will end up being out this weekend instead).

However, wouldn't it be irony of ironies if RVP doesn't play this weekend? Lots of WC's and 8 pt hits would have been spent on crowbarring him into their teams and then he misses the very fixture everyone was salivating over?

      it would be cruel.

having said that, he'll be back to terrorise the other teams for the rest of the season so it's not like it's a waste of money/WC/hit.

Yes, but people then could have got him in the week after for either no hit, 4 pt hit or no need to have used WC at all?

I'm sure RVP will be fine though.

True, but his price spiked. I've gained 0.4 off of him lol. So I guess those hits would have been worth it if they got him anytime before his current price.

If he doesn't play, I'm perfectly fine with Santi as my vice.

i actually decide not to get rvp, since torres has superior fixture in the short term, and I think they will score similar.

    Morning,

I already took a four pointer to get hazard in. So if we now get some sort of info that kagawa and rvp are out this weekend, should I

    a) push that wc button and get rid of them + ddg, federici, graham and some defender too to get baines in
    b) stick with them (and -4) and play two of guthrie, demel, rangel instead
    c) kagawa => cazorla for another hit

    thanks

Me too, just not sure if it's woth it - if I don't take cazorla in for this week with a hit, I don't want to get him in until gw7.
Altough, if I get him in this gw, I could even captain him now bacause of this rvp situation...

RVP will play. Fergeson is a shrewed judge and understands that Wigan are a decent side and deserve respect he wont risk dropping more points by resting RVP even if hes not 100%.

I understand for those that have played the WC or taken a hit this is hot topic, but I suspect it will all amount to nothing and RVP will be amongst the goals at the weekend.

I think he'll play for 60 mins or so, depending on how the game's going. If they're up by two or three early SAF might sub him early. If Wigan are in front he might play the full 90. Don't forget Rooney's out as well.

      I guess we'll find out on the W/E 😀

I've had him since GW1 and i hope he will start.

All I was saying is, it's often hard to read Fergie!

United have the CL midweek and a much tougher league fixture on paper next weekend.

It's conceivable Fergie may give Chico a run out against Wigan, especially if there is a doubt over RVP.

I'm enjoying all the lambert love, but a word of caution NA has just bought 2 additional strikers presumably to play in a front 3 either side of Lambert (they both have pace) however this is just theroy right now and we dont know who he intends to play up front, hes already benched Lambert once this season as he didnt think he's mobile enough to play as the central forward role when playing 4-3-3.

          or Cravings

The first time she fell pregnant, she craved pickled eggs and tortillas.

The next time, it was Tabasco and chick flicks.

The third time, fine soap shavings, the fourth, woodchip and the smell of Waterloo station.

Now she craves a lover, forgiveness, more time. She craves life. But not hers.

Ive seen a lot of similar WC teams, In principal I like however loading up your midfield in such a way means the defense suffers. I know WBA have stated well but if at the start of the season you said you'd be hoping for CS from WBA, Sto, Sun, Red and WH you would have though you were going mad add to that jenkinson will only play another couple of games at best then things start to look a bit scary.

with AVB you just never know...............

The previous 'moving target' post seemed to suggest AVB likes Lennon but hes bought 3 midfielders and sold 1 that means more rotation untill he decides on what his best side is IMO.

Have been tinkering with an non-RVP w/c. How does this look?

    Szczesny/Bego
    Baines/Jagielka/Gallas/Demel/Davies(or Clyne)
    Barfa/Hazard/Cazorla/Michu/Bale
    Di Santo/Fletcher/Tevez

    £0 in the back

Might change Jags for another 6m defender, but might even go with this if RVP is declared fit. MU have tough fixtures (bar one) all the way to GWK 10 after this week...

It's no different to normal. The stats show that the lower table teams get the majority of their CSs early in the season, while the big teams get the majority of theirs later in the season and very few at the start.

    Not serious here...

just think the cash saved in the bank should earn someone interest, like having 1m or above in the bank can earn a fixed amount per gameweek, like 0.1m.

So people may learn not to grab all highly-priced players but instead select wisely and earn a return.

Nevermind, people will do what they want to do, but I think an interest system can make mid-priced players more attractive than now.

Like when you are choosing a Newcastle coverage between Cabaye (6.9m) and Ben Arfa (7.7m). Most people may choose Ben Arfa but if you know the saved 0.8m can earn you 0.1 this week, you may choose Cabaye instead.

This would help to diversify formation chosen among FPL managers so the game is more interesting I think.

Been looking more at keeper rotations and I definitely feel this "Foster and Jussi don't rotate well" argument is a total myth. If you're simply looking at home and away rotation then I'd agree but it's more about looking at the teams they are actually playing.

Looking at the next 18 gameweeks in the run up to the January WC, Foster has home games against Man City and Chelsea whilst Jussi has home games against Arsenal, Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Everton but you wouldn't say any of them are nailed on for CS.

When you strip out the home vs away factor they rotate really well and if you split the fixtures into green amber and red they only have 2 'amber fixtures in the next 18 GWs.

    Schwarzer/Bego have 6 amber and 1 red, Schwarzer/Jussi have 5 amber and 1 red, Jussi/Bego have 6 amber and 1 red, Foster/Bego have 3 amber and 1 red.

This is all well and good providing the team in question can actually get CS away from home. WBA do not do this very much, and I know that WH did last season but that was in the Championship so practically irrelevant.

        +1

I've been banging on about this since pre-season so I should probably give it a rest now but one of the key things to consider when looking at defensive rotations is where the teams get their clean sheets.

Foster gets almost all of his at home (8h, 2a last season)
Jaas actually got more away from home than at home last season but as Berbilly says, take Championship performances with a pinch of salt.

So with Foster-Bego what will you do in GW8 when they play MAN CITY and Man Utd respectively? What about GW12 when they play CHELSEA and West Ham, GW14 when they play Swansea and NEWCASTLE or GW16 when they play Arsenal and Aston Villa?

It's no good looking at what West Brom acheived in defence LAST season. This season is completely different and they have a better team, better drilled defence and the signs are good for more clean sheets IMO

I'll stick with the formula of playing the home goalkeeper, just like I did in GW2 when Stoke kept a clean sheet against Arsenal.

And suggesting that looking at previous data is worthless smacks of arrogance that you somehow know better. My full stats actually covered the last 3 years and WBA have kept 78% of their clean sheets at home in that time, it's a significant sample size.

hehe, fair enough. certainly not arrogance, just trying to promote some alternative thinking that's all. I take your point about historical data but I still feel WBA will keep more cleansheets away from home this season than in previous.

Anyway, I'm sticking with Foster-Jussi as my keeper combo and will risk the odd time I have to use one in an away match. If nothinmg else it will provide some interesting data and perhaps a differential.

              Good debate cheers :o)
