Here at Fantasy Football Scout we like to think we bring Fantasy Managers a whole host of useful content in the build up to each Gameweek. We do, however, appreciate that you might not be following us day in and day out. For those of you in said group we are going to bring you a wrap-up of all the hard work that the team have put in as we close in on the Gameweek deadline.

This time around there’s been a two week international break following on from the closing of the transfer window giving us a bumper edition to kick things off…

Teamsheet Talking Points

All the chatter in the latter part of this week centred around the fitness of some of the new Old Trafford heavyweights. Both Robin Van Persie and Shinji Kagawa came out of Tuesday’s internationals with question marks over their fitness. Thankfully Friday’s press conference found Sir Alex confirming that both were fit and available. Panic over. Although we can’t help wonder if the old scoundrel is still keeping something up his “wee sleevey”.

Meanwhile up at St. James’ Park Alan Pardew has found himself in the midst of a minor defensive crisis with Tim Krul, Danny Simpson and Cheick Tiote ruled out of action for their Gameweek Four fixture. With question marks still hanging over Fabricio Coloccini, the Toon Army could be facing an uphill battle up against David Moyes’ Everton on Monday evening. It certainly seems like they might need to notch a couple to compensate for leaving the backdoor ajar. Big returns for Leighton Baines, Steven Pienaar and Nikaca Jelavic? See the Scout Picks.

As always, all of the weeks stories have been dissected and recorded in our Team News and Injuries & Bans pages for your convenience.

The Transfer Trail

As mentioned, the summer transfer window closed a mere 12 hours before the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) deadline shut. Some new faces look set to earn debuts in Gameweek Four and Scout Reports have been produced on a whole raft of new offerings.

The likes of Southampton splashed the big bucks to bring Gaston Ramirez in from Bologna. Aston Villa added to their attacking options with Christian Benteke and Pablo Hernandez joined Swansea for a club record fee of £5.55m. Here’s a snippet of our take on the latter…

“Hernandez’s arrival, however, places major question marks over the Swansea flanks. As a club record signing, the chances of him swapping La Liga for a place on the Liberty bench seem non-existent, meaning one of the two wide boys will almost certainly make way. Able to play on either wing, he looks favourite to oust Routledge on the left, allowing Dyer to continue his menacing form on the opposite side of the pitch.”

It’s not just new faces that intrigue us, though, as plenty of players made a late in the day move from one Premier League outfit to another. We’ve had a look at how this might affect Michael Owen and Charlie Adam at Stoke, Dimitar Berbatov returning to London to play under Martin Jol once more down at Fulham and Clint Dempsey leaving the latter outfit for pastures new at Spurs Lodge.

Looking Forward

Looking a little closer to home and assessing the upcoming run of Gameweeks, it falls upon us to Frisk the Fixtures and see which teams have a favourable run and which sides look a little more precarious on that front.

Looking in even further detail The Watchlist got it’s regular sprucing as we narrowed in on the players we feel are set to sparkle in the coming weeks. The aforementioned Nikica Jelavic and Leighton Baines lead an Everton flavoured charge with James Morrison representing West Brom ahead of Gameweek Four. The third option proving an interesting alternative to the norm…

“Priced at 6.0 in FPL and 6.4 in the Sky Sports game, the Scot looks a real mid-price differential to consider over the next few Gameweeks. With Clarke’s in-form side welcoming (RG, QPR, SOT) to the Hawthorns in the next eight and with trips to (ful, avl, wig) also on the agenda, his propensity to pick up the points could well appeal to those Fantasy managers looking for something different from the template midfields currently doing the rounds on site.”

Members Club

Our Members get exclusive content each week and we’d be remiss to not highlight the goodies that came their way for their season subscription. Data from the first three weeks was collated and assessed to provide some statistical analysis on the Defending and Attacking of each Premier League side to date. We followed these up with two more articles, with a Monitor examining the progress made by Norwich winger Anthony Pilkington under Chris Hughton’s regime, while Chris Glover made a triumphant return to these pages with a first of a new series. The “Moneyball” articles will find Chris delving into the budget market, attempting to decode an array of stats to find true gold – it all started with West Ham’s Ricardo Vaz Te.

Talking Tactics

One thing we know all too well is that Andy Carroll suits a certain style of play. Brendan Rogers couldn’t offer him that but Sam Allardyce, down at Upton Park, is a manager who certainly can. The other thing we know is that when we let Paul loose to frolic in the fields of Stat Maps and numbers we’re bound to get rewards. His Technical Area on West Ham’s loan striker is evidence of just that. Now the Hammers will just have to hope his hamstring injury doesn’t keep him out too long.

Over on the Fantasy Premier League website our Gameweek Preview under the guise of “The Scout” takes a look at the current strategies of Brian McDermott and Reading and Martin Jol at Fulham as well as a look at the data behind the most attacking defenders to date. There are a couple of surprise candidates coming out of Wigan worth keeping an eye on…

“Wigan Athletic’s Emmerson Boyce and Maynor Figueroa have impressed, with the pair offering constant delivery from the flanks in Roberto Martinez’s 3-4-2-1 formation. Playing on the right of midfield, Boyce has mirrored the supply rate of Everton’s Leighton Baines from out wide with 12 crosses and has also managed 3 shots.”

Weekly Regulars

Of course there’s also the Scout Picks, released only last night, followed swiftly by Big Dunc’s return in the Differential. Once again our resident Evertonian managed to sneak one of his boy’s into the mix.

Finally, there’s the small matter of your most important Fantasy player this Gameweek. Judging by those who have answered the Scout Poll (found in the middle menu of the homepage) Robin Van Persie is the runaway candidate for captaincy this Gameweek with a rather appealing home fixture against the Latics. Those without the Dutch hitman look set to choose between Eden Hazard and Santi Cazorla in their quest to better the masses and hope that Sir Alex springs a surprise. Will the United boss prompt a big Fantasy swing? We can only wait to see what he has in store.

Allen is an absolute cracking player. Not good for FPL though. I wouldnt take out Graham for a hit, Norwich havent really got the fixtures while Swansea still do, and theyre scoring lots of goals and Graham is basically their only strike option and i think hes on pens as well

Tottenham XI: Davis; Lescott, Rafael, Davies, Demel; Michu, Bale, Hazard; Graham, Tevez, RVP (C)

    Subs: Green, NZogbia, Gibson, Gunter

4 point hit already taken, 9 starters playing away, entire bench at home. this squad is a disaster.

anyway my transfers freed up 1 mil to help toward next week. I need to figure out if Pienaar is worth the extra dosh over the likes of morisson or lallana who im looking at based on fixtures short term. Im not excited to bring in pienaar for (swa) but I feel more confident i rolling him out every week vs the other two, and everton still have a solid run of fixtures. ive never been keen on WBA attack investment, nd ive only seen lallana play one match and didnt see much from him. Are there any other >6.0 mids worth considering starting GW5?

It's not a complete disaster, you still have 4 of the "most essential" players... a ot of people on here have mentioned they have very few home players this week... look on the bright side, you'll have 8 next week... 🙂

In that price range only really Nolan, Snodgrass and Morrison jump out at me... Pienaar is well worth the extra 0.6m if you ask me... solid fixtures until GW14...

i think he will approach modric like fantasy production given starts. that is to say, not as much production as hoped fantasy wise, alot of assists of the assists. but definitely key in the build up, and will get some modest hauls. I think at 6, thats ok, modric was always too expensive. still a decent 4th mid prospect if no one else is blowing it up at that price.

I have uncertainty with Jarvis/Simpson and also want to see if Petric is fully recovered from his knock and where he fits into fulham now that Berba is starting.

So I decided to avoid the urge to go for Santi in for Bale. Already lost 0.2m on Bale the last 2 weeks and Santi had a rise last night.

I'm looking at Lambert and Ridgwell/Mcauley in this week and will hopefully catch the price hikes for those players.

I can do without the "Santi having 2 tough fixtures in the next two issue". Two FT for gw 5 and even a 3 trades for 4 will come in handy me thinks and might contra the fact I did not get Santi this week.

I WC'd immediately this break, so sold Bale at 9.5m and got Santi at 9.0m.
Perhaps after Sat I can get back Bale at 9.3m and sell Santi for 0.1m profit until GW7.

Also perhaps I can form a meaningful & long lasting relationship with a super model.

so i've been working up a plan, but it really depends on how things go this gw. my team for gw4 is:

    foster, begovic
    baines, rangel, jenkinson, demel, clyne
    hazard, cazorla, yaya, michu, sterling
    rvp, tevez, graham

i thought graham would be doing much better, but i don't think he's going to stay as my third striker for long. i could straight swap him with lambert, but i would rather have berba. so we'll see how fulham play, and go from there. but to fund that, i need to downgrade rangel and yaya. so my plan is, when sagna comes back, i will trade jenkinson for sagna, and rangel for davies which gives me 0.5. i can then trade yaya for hba then graham to berba.

    what do you think?

I think something always gets in the way of 4-step plans in this game and planning really far ahead is just a waste of mental energy. That said, transfers themselves arent looking too bad. Would be careful about that Davies kid though, Laudrup clearly doesnt think he`s capable of 30 games this year

ya, but that's just the kind of person i am, i like planning transfers. the sagna transfer will happen no matter what (unless he stays injured). and to afford him, i have to downgrade rangel anyways. but i do agree with davies, will definitely need to watch him closely and see how laudrup feels about him

Yeah. If money is what you need, i seriously would consider downgrading Yaya first of the lot. Hes really not that good for FPL, unless he`s planning to play Garcia and move Yaya up. Sucks though, because there really arent too many 4.0 defenders to choose from.

Btw im a planner myself thats why i know it doesnt work lol

Routinely taking -4 hits are very bad, imo. If you do it once every blue moon to manage your team for the long term, then fine. -4 is a lot to make up.

i think i need to stop looking down your shirt. its two-dimensional, and craning my neck doesnt change anything. 🙂

too much uncertainty with the players involved to plan too much but I would stick with graham. he's steady for his price which is all you can ask from a cheap 3rd striker. sell when the fixtures run dry, but im certain he's got a couple more goals in him before then.

that's what i keep telling myself, but the amount of goals the team has had, and he has 1 goal and 0 assists. i can't just bank him to score penalties all the time, however i have many dreams where dyer gets fouled in the penalty area, and graham just keeps scoring penalties.

Everton have a great record at home vs Newcastle too and the RB situation makes it ever more appealing.

Thing is, when they concede (and they very well could do, Newcastle have some firepower), then you captain is pretty much f****d since the chance of defenders getting attacking points are pretty low, even with someone as good as Baines.

You're basically captaining a penalty taking winger from an above average side who has a shot at 4 point clean sheets.

So yes, I will be captaining van Persie 🙂

I like the team a lot but i'm not a fan of having both Rafa and Jenkinson as they could lose their places at around the same time and leave you too much to fix on the wrong end of your team.

I admit it is abit of a risk with davies but laudrup has said he will start so its his place to loose. Jenks is purely short term and depending the rafa situation, after afew weeks when uniteds defensive injuries clear up, they can easily become gibbs and cuellar/ hughes.

I am confident that barring injury i will not be swapping my attacking players for the foreseeable. Although saying that, i am waiting to see on berbs and if he doesn't perform then downgrade to lambert to upgrade defence abit more.

I figure its better going to berba over lambert from now as its easier to downgrade there. This is also when southamptons fixtures get better.

    Pick one for future transfers:

    A)GW5: Kags->Barfa
    GW6: Terry->Baines

    B)GW5: Kags->Barfa
    GW6: Terry->Saylor/Williams
    GW7: Larsson->Cazorla

So basically boils down to Cazorla vs. Baines

    Federichi – Noble – McCartney – Clyne

    Rangel - Hughes - Reid
    Cazorla - Yaya - Michu - Pienaar - Hazard
    Tevez - RVP

    Mignolet - Pog - Figueroa - Clyne

Is it worth it ??? I would be ever so greatful to get any opinion on this. I´ve been hovering the button all day and I´m leaning more towards pulling the trigger now unless someone talks me out of it.

too much money is locked in your mids. id say yaya out for low price e.g. guthrie/noble/malone and use that to upgrade defence. for that you could go clyne -> baines. tevez is good enough mc coverage for now.

      Foster rotates best with begovic

Never a fan of wasting a forward option.
Forwards are more likely to score goals even when they dont play well, exact opposite for midfielders.

I would downgrade Pienaar & upgrade Pog.

Nah you should just save it. Seriously, save it. You have the heavy hitters you need, and you should be able to manouver that squad around for the next few weeks. WC will come in handy later on. Atleast i believe that the longer you can save it, the more valueable it becomes.

    HELP PLEASE !!!

I really need some veteran opinion since I´m hovering the WC button. Is it worth it for this :

    FROM :

    Friedel
    Lescott – Hughes – Williams
    Kagawa – Michu – Yaya – Hazard
    Graham – Tevez – RVP

    Federichi – Noble – McCartney – Clyne

    TO :

    Foster
    Rangel – Reid – Hughes
Cazorla – Yaya – Michu – Ben Arfa – Hazard
    Tevez – RVP

    Elliot – Pog – Clyne – Clark

    OR :

    Foster
    Rangel - Hughes - Reid
    Cazorla - Yaya - Michu - Pienaar - Hazard
    Tevez - RVP

    Mignolet - Pog - Figueroa - Clyne

Is it worth it ??? I would be ever so greatful to get any opinion on this. I´ve been hovering the button all day and I´m leaning more towards pulling the trigger now unless someone talks me out of it.

Thank you so much in advance guys

Why would you WC that team? It's a good team, just a few transfers over the coming week will be fine.

WC'ing is a bad idea now.

You had two weeks to get price rises, but now have missed a lot of the good players. Also, most importantly, your team is fine.

I'd venture to say any team with Tevez, RVP and Hazard does not need to be WC'ed.
