Signed in the transfer window, both Steven Fletcher and Dimitar Berbatov have wasted little time in acclimatising at their new clubs, turning the heads of Fantasy managers.

Placed snugly in the mid-price bracket, they both look to offer strong solutions to the third striker slot in our squads with other places reserved for expensive heavy-hitters. In that scenario, many Fantasy managers have been forced to choose from these two players – both take form, decent fixtures and almost identical price tags into the coming months.

In this latest article for our Members, we look beyond the goals and points notched so far, exploring the numbers behind their performances in an attempt to offer a solution to this particular selection dilemma.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I know, I am half-expecting that too. All depends on whether he likes cricket or not 😉

Give me a few minutes, I will come up with a quick page, where you chat about cricket and all that. I am actually in semi-agreement that the cricket talk can get annoying for the average user specially those who have no clue about the sport.

It's not just one guy, it's plenty of good guys who have complained so Iet me see I can come up with something with minimal work.

    Foster
    Baines / Vermaelen / Vertonghen
    Bale (c) / Cazorla / Michu (vc) / Pienaar
    Tevez / Fletcher / Berbatov

    Begovic / Sterling / Demel / Nelson

£3.3m in the bank which will give me plenty of flexibility for future transfers.

TBH I considered this as a 1 week punt but then thought its likely Torres won't score alot and fletcher could easily match him and then at least my team is set up without needing a transfer and giving me an extra transfer in hand.

A wc should not be used as a one week punt... I love the backline. Too many cheap defenses floating around imo...

I would look at bringing in chels/united coverage though. For the next two I would perhaps look at hazard and perhaps bring in yaya for pienaar since you have the dosh.

      Jaaskelainen

Don't worry too much at this stage. Last season I didn't have Rooney or Dzeko at the start when the hit form big time scoring hat tricks and five goals v Spurs and went around 150 pts behind my rivals at one stage. I stuck to my own decisions and by the new year I was back in the game, mainy down to Clint Dempsey (c) on alot of his home scoring spree's.

It depends how good you think your rival is. If he's very good you could see how you are after 10 games and then gamble. If not just play normally. I had a bad season last year, by the jan wc I was 80 behind. I didn't panic cause I knew my mini league is easy to win, by the end I'd won it by over100.

I'm punting on my captain choice this week. I'm about 30 pts behind and still have my WC whereas everyone ahead of me in my works league have already used theirs.

No panic yet but I figure they will all captain RVP this weekend so I'm going to gamble big style and put the armband on Ben Arfa and see if I can get lucky. At this stage its no great loss if I fall further behind and this GW looks like the most favourable time to do that kind of a gamble.

Loads of time yet just play things cool, a few injuries to his team, and your good planning ahead eg if a double gameweek is coming up looking to bring in players to capitalise on it, will soon see you catching up, no need to panic at this stage it's a marathon not a sprint, also try to limit point hits if you can.

Alright then here goes. REALLY looking at Berba(c).
And yes, i'm aware of Fulham's poor away form but they won 2-0 and the DW last year and Berbs has a good away record vs. Wigan.

    Reasons
    1) Hazard might not start. If RDM gives indication he will, i'll put the armband on Hazard. Atleast Berba plays a full 90.

    2) RVP, he looked out of sorts vs. Galatasaray and Liverpool at Anfield are a tough proposition.

    3) Saylor is another option i am looking at. Looks good for a CS and goal threat. Don't want to captain a defender.

    4) Pienaar + Michu - Not convinced

    5) Fulham have a decent side if Ruiz+Petric are fit.

Personally if I was ranked as high as you are, I would follow the masses and go Haz(c). You have nothing to lose since you already own Berba inc case he goes crazy for bananna.

Your rank won"t really be effected if Haz scores a 5 pointer or so.

    Shane Long 11/10
    Berbatov 11/5
    Lambert 13/10
    Demba Ba 6/5
    Defoe 8/11

so Defoe > Ba > Berbatov > Fletcher

    Devil's advocate time...

What if Tevez doesn't start this week?

What if he doesn't start next week as well ahead of the Dortmund clash?

Will we start making plans to shift him? I don't see Aguero being any better value so a straight swap seems pointless. Do we just hold on and hope he plays 75% of the time and continues his returns or do we cash in and look at other options (with Berbatov surely leading the list of replacements)?

      A real possibility.
One solution will be a double switch - downgrade Tevez to Fletcher/Berb/other and upgrade 4th MF to a big hitter.

He'll surely start to see some reduced game time - but will also pull in some double-digit hauls, despite this. My strategy will be to keep him and rely on the big scores outweighing the smaller ones. The only conundrum will be when to captain him.

I think for 9.5-10m, you should be able to afford other captain options and it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

He' s always a reasonable (c) option though - home or away. I wouldn't advocate not considering him for any fixture. But we have no idea whether he'll play 60mins in any of them, either.

It will make things interesting now that Rooney return date also draws nearer.

Podolski/Berba/Defoe are all nice options, but City rotating h/a most weeks with ManU makes me want a Citeh player upfront.

Yeah agreed but when said United/City players (Aguero, Tevez, RVP, Rooney) aren't guaranteed 60+ mins every week, the armband decision is made a lot more difficult!

I've kept away all week to prevent any kneejerking after the last 2 weeks shambles of having no keepers playing which cost me my H2H last week by 1 point (so as you can guess I have DDG + Fed)

    DDG, Fed
    Cole, Rangel, Ridgewell, Demel, Bennett
    Hazard, Cazorla, Kagawa, Kankles, Puncheon
    RVP, Tevez, Graham

Have 0.6m in the bank, 1FT available

Reckon it's safe to swap a keeper or do I just ride it out as I haven't WC'ed yet? I'm not sure if I'd use the transfer this week otherwise.

Probably looking at Al-Habsi or Foster so could switch either keeper.

RVP & Tevez will probably score just as well as Rooney & Aguero.

Theory craft warning. This is one of those *in the future* questions that tbh I hate when others post. But hear me out.. Or don't 🙂

Anyone else considering cashing in on Tevez once Aguero returns to the starting lineup, which id expect to be soon enough, perhaps next week or the week after at the latest. I like most have benefited from the Tevez points and his price rises. Now Tevez stats have being okay, but not out of this world. He has a well rounded game with goals and assists, so not arguing against him here. But I think everyone would agree, Aguero has the higher upside and downside, id expect safer from rotation as well. Though your paying an extra million for that or so at this point.

Now I don't own RVP (have explained several times why before), so i'm actually floating a bit of cash at the moment and could afford to bring in Aguero in the future if I wish with a straight swap.

I reckon at the start of the season, Aguero was worth 11.5, so 11.0m now is a proper deal. You could argue Tevez is the better value, but i'm thinking maybe, just maybe the time to cash in on him may be coming up.

    All theorycraft eh?

Bibo and Dzeko will have to get game time at some points. Aguero is the main man and the more talented (imo), so out of the strikers id reckon he will get the most game time.

Similar to the United situation with the 4 strikers.

See above for my post on the same topic. Not sure Aguero is better value as you pay extra for any extra points he gets. That said, I'd feel slightly more comfortable with Aguero captain. Mancini still loves a tinker and I remember a few occasions last year when Aguero didn't play and Tevez wasn't even in the picture at that point!

Id agree on feeling safer with Aguero, 2nd season now, so room for upside and he probably has the better downside, which is what you want from a captain. Man City have 4 viable strikers, but id reckon Tevez to be the more vulnerable then Aguero.

Now another concern is, as you said above, is it worth using a transfer on. If you got nothing better to do next week or on a WC id consider it, but allot of us have more pressing matters.

Until Aguero comes back and slots away a hat trick, introducing a case of wide spread knee jerking here.

      What's the 2.6m for lad?

Planning a wee holday in GW7?

Team is pretty good, not sure id double up on the Everton left, but that's not a real against point.

Tbh I don't fancy expensive defenders myself, so id go with Sagna (if fit) over Vermaleen as your really looking at keeping verm for the long long term to get the benefit of his additional goal threat, which is a random thing too hard to predict.

Yup Sagna is a possibility, then I could keep Hazard in midfield along with Caz. I don't have a issue with keeping spare money. And I'm sure plenty of options will emerge by then. Gw8 is a month away!!!
