As the dust settles on another Gameweek, we roll out our early-week regular. Once again, we focus on the main protagonists in the Scout League, while casting an eye over the transfer market as trades pick up pace on the back of the weekend’s action:

Scout League Standings

Renoir Buffon remains at the top, despite taking a four point hit to get rid of Robin Van Persie and Carlos Cuellar. Jermain Defoe and Branislav Ivanovic were the replacements, with Defoe then handed the armband for a 16 point return. Elsewhere, Ivanovic, Steven Taylor and Liam Ridgewell all chipped in with clean sheets, while Hatem Ben Arfa and Dimitar Berbatov both provided eight points apiece for a Gameweek total of 59 (after points deductions) to leave Renoir sitting ninth overall in the world on 394 points.

Second place goes to the mysterious MP after he racked up 82 point to move to 33rd overall, on 386 points. A back-three of Rafael, Ivanovic and Leighton Baines accrued 28 points, while captain Gareth Bale, Kevin Nolan and Steven Pienaar all produced in midfield. Up front, Van Persie, Carlos Tevez and Rickie Lambert notched three goals between them.

Andy Fox sits in third position in the Scout League. Chelsea pair Petr Cech and Ivanovic produced clean sheets at the back, while a strong-looking midfield five of Eden Hazard, Pienaar, Ben Arfa, Santi Cazorla and Shinji Kagawa returned 32 points between them. Berbatov and Tevez led the line in, while Rafael’s 11 point haul at Anfield was left on the bench – despite this, Andy accrued 58 points to climb to 37th overall.

Dave Fitzgibbon slips down to fourth place after a 53 point haul last time out. Rafael and Ivanovic were the main protagonists at the back, while Cazorla, Shane Long and captain Defoe all picked up attacking returns as Dave moved to 384 points overall.

Former world number one Asriel Chen makes up the top five. Ivanovic and Taylor returned clean sheets in defence, while Marouane Fellaini, Demba Ba and captain Van Persie all chipped in as Asriel recorded a 52 point haul, moving him to 48th overall.

For the Contributors League, Anorak takes over at the top. A back-three of Rafael, Ivanovic and Baines produced 28 of his 48 points this Gameweek, with Kagawa the only attacking player to pick up attacking points. Andy joins him on 324 points overall but sits second as he’s made the most transfers of the duo.

The Market Trends

Everton duo Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines are picking up plenty of interest ahead of next weekend’s home clash with Southampton. Fellaini is far and away the most popular player this week – over 75,000 Fantasy managers have transferred the Belgian in since his 12 point display against Swansea on Saturday, while Baines has made his way into almost 40,000 new teams.

Ashley Cole and Rafael have both been snapped up by almost 18,000 Fantasy managers as backlines are assessed, while West Brom’s Gareth McAuley continues to prove popular after returning his third home clean sheet of the season in the 1-0 win over Reading. The West Ham backline is tempting plenty right now – Jussi Jaaskelainen, Guy Demel and Winston Reid have been drafted in by a combined 33,000 since last Saturday’s deadline.

Up top, Steve Fletcher and Demba Ba lead the way for transfers in, with 40,000 and 35,000 respectively picking up the mid-price duo, while Rickie Lambert’s brace against Villa has persuaded almost 30,000 to scramble for his signature despite a tricky trip to Everton up next. Dimitar Berbatov continues to climb in price – 21 points in his two starts for Fulham has led to over 20,000 grabbing a piece of the Bulgarian.

In terms of transfers out, the faith in Swansea’s midfield has taken a real battering after another goalless game last weekend. Nathan Dyer has been sold on by over 50,000 Fantasy managers, while Michu has exited over 32,000 teams. Although a trip to Stoke looks tricky this weekend, the Swans them host Reading and Wigan at the Liberty – surely enough reason to hold right now.

Fernando Torres’ failure to notch against Stoke has seen 44,000 transfer out the Spaniard, while Mladen Petric continues to plummet in our estimations. The latter has dropped 0.3 in price over the last two Gameweeks now that he has seemingly lost his place in Martin Jol’s starting XI. Carlos Tevez’s first bench appearance of the season has caused panic – the most popular player in FPL with over 50% ownership, the Argentine been moved on by over 20,000 managers now that Sergio Aguero is back for City.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

      OK, I did

Tevez much better than Ba over the season.
In last 2 Ba is better because he has scored (doh!), but Tevez still shades him on 'Involvement' stats, including in the final 3rd.

GB, what did you see that made this noteworthy?

Tbh i didn't see minutes played until after i posted. But Ba has far more threat, and more key stats. The fact their their close and yet their price difference is significant is noteworthy.

Ba's threat reflects the fact that he scored goals, which dominates that category. Worth a look tho, I agree.

Michu to Fellaini 0.1m for next weeks FT or
Michu to Pienaar 0.6m for next weeks FT

would like one of them as I feel Everton are going to pick up quite a few points over the next couple of months... 🙂

Anyone considering Silva in the next week or two? He looked good against Arsenal and looks like he could start to reproduce again like last season. He is too good a player to not start racking up the assists/goals and has fallen to 9.6m.

I REALLY want him from GW7 & on (SUN, wba, SWA, whm, TOT, AVL). He is not a captain pick but when not out of form is consitency is great and he could give a very steady stream of points over that period.

My problem however is who to drop from my front 8 for him? I only have 0.9m in the bank so would need 8.7m.

      Bale / Cazorla / Michu / Pienaar / Sterling
      Tevez / Suarez / Berbatov

Yes, rotation is an issue but I'm definitely considering him given how good some of the midbudget strikers look: Berbs/Lambert/Lukaku. If I sell Tevez for one of them, Silva could come in.

Use my transfer or save it? (1 free transfer, 4.0m in the BANK):

    Begovic(SWA)

    Cazorla(CHE) Fellaini(SOT) Michu(sto) Sterling(nor)
    Van Persie(TOT) Berbatov(MCI) Tevez(ful)

subs - Foster, Cuellar, Demel, Maloney

Was seriously considering Jenkinson/Cuellar > G.Johnson until Liverpool's defence began to fall apart over the last 24 hours. Not sure it's a viable option any longer. Anything else you can see worth changing or should i just give Jenkinson a game and save my transfer?

I think your front 8 will be fine for at least 3 or 4 fixtures so you may as well use your transfers for your defence. I'd keep Cuellar - he will be back in a week or 2 and is comfortably the best option at that price. Play Demel ahead of Jenkinson. Save your freebie. Upgrade Jenkinson to Sagna when he's back.

Who to play in defence this weekend??

I've got, Vidic, Terry, Hangeland, Baines & Ridgewell

Worried that Vidic didn't start this week + wasn't on the bench, surely an injury?
Terry - another non starter for me, although did come on, but will this FA hearing / retiring affect him?

Hangeland at home to City, Aquero now back so expect Tev and Sergio up front could equal a nightmare
Baines - my only guaranteed starter next week

Ridgewell, .. Made the mistake to leave him on bench this week didn't I :/

Liverpool looked really good against Manu, even with only 10 men... The question is... can they maintain the same level of intensity against other teams... Or was just one circumstancial freak show?

        The Scout reviews Gameweek 5

Dimitar Berbatov tops the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index for Gameweek 5 after another sparkling display in Fulham’s win at Wigan Athletic. Demba Ba sits in second thanks to his match-winner against Norwich City and Rickie Lambert takes third spot after bagging a brace in Southampton’s win over Aston Villa.

Dimitar Berbatov earned the maximum bonus points (BP) at the DW Stadium with a strong all-round display on Saturday afternoon. Going forward, the Bulgarian produced 4 shots on target and an assist, while 3 clearances, 8 interceptions and a successful tackle are indicative of his current work ethic – he has now returned the maximum BP in both his starts for the Cottagers

Posted this last night and got one response, if anyone else could give an opinion would be great thanks.

Thinking of WC’ing for next week: Have a rough team of:

        Mignolet Begovic
        McAuley Cashley ?? Demel Clyne
        Sterling Michu Granero Cazorla ??
        Berba Tevez RVP

        Three questions please:
        1) Should I WC? My team is linked if you want to see what I have now
        2) For the ??’s would you go:
        A) Vermaelen & Oscar
        B) Jenkinson & Hazard
        3) Is this a good enough WC team?

        Thanks in advance

On a WC and RVP just completely restricts your team. Yes he's captain material each week and likely to score 25 goals but Rooney will be back...and surely 3 other high scoring forwards is equally profitable over the next 10 weeks...I feel like getting RVP you're being held to ransom. Also Man Utd's fixtures are not easy in the next few weeks.
