Luis Suarez isn’t everyone’s favourite player. Impromptu goalkeeping, the Patrice Evra incident and a baffling vendetta against woodwork comprise the newsworthy misadventures of a man equally distinguished by his managers’ favour and the public contempt. But whilst his unequivocal admirers might be restricted to the Kop and the carpentry trade, Fantasy managers can ill afford to be too picky with their heroes in a game that measures virtue purely in terms of points.

A stuttering start to the season can be excused in a team unsettled by a wearying saga of tactical and managerial revolutions on Merseyside, and if the optimism that attended Brendan Rodgers’ arrival has been somewhat subdued by Liverpool’s unflattering league position, strong performances against Sunderland and United in recent weeks suggest that the tide is turning.

In terms of shots on target and chances created over the last two weeks Liverpool are in the Champions League spots, and whilst new acquisition Joe Allen and youth team graduate Raheem Sterling have gelled seamlessly in Rogers’ favoured 4-3-3, the comparatively innocuous exploits of Fabio Borini only serve to cement Suarez’s role as the indispensable spearhead of the Liverpool attack.

Whilst Steven Fletcher, Dimitar Berbatov and Ricky Lambert have hogged the headlines and cast an understandable shade over Suarez’s recent performances, that darkness may provide a propitious advantage to those Fantasy managers armed with the sober and impartial light of OPTA stats. Indeed, Suarez has eclipsed his acclaimed competitors in several key areas, and whilst he shows no inclination to forfeit his post-hitting pre-eminence, his threat stats augur an imminent improvement of his already-respectable tally of two goals in five games.

Norwich’s combative home form could present a potential banana skin to Liverpool’s attacking aspirations next weekend, but their work-in-progress defence remains susceptible to breach and Suarez’s guile and energy will furnish a stern test – last season’s Carrow Road hat-trick, capped by a memorable 45-yard effort, stands testament to the Uruguayan’s capabilities. Back-to-back home games against a winless Stoke and an incontinent Reading then serve to complete a tempting trio of ties that should provide Rodgers’ resurgent Reds ample opportunity to jump start their campaign.

With the threat of rest and rotation now haunting the footsteps of the hitherto hegemonic Carlos Tevez and Robin Van Persie, Suarez’s comparative security becomes a conspicuous asset and, priced at 9.4 in the Fantasy Premier League and 9.6 in the Sky Sports game, canny investors may be set to reap rewards from Luis’ forthcoming weekends.

Tevez was rested last EPL game, played 120 yesterdya, he wont start 2 EPL games from the bench in a row unless he refuses to play again.

Tevez will start this weekend and bench in Champions League game. Balotelli will start along with Aguero (Balotelli is Mankini's favourite player at Champions League last year)

think suarez is possibly a nostalgic choice too, his hattrick at norwich last year came under 2 different managers, from 3 norwich assists, and with ryan bennett on the pitch (he of 0-3 liverpool, 5-0 fulham and 1-6 man city fame). respect a punt on someone different, just sceptical when there are currently a real glut of performing 6-8mil options.

Remember pre-season last season? On paper Saurez was a potential FPL dream. Nailed-on striker, great talent, great skill, good finisher(!). He still looks all these things to me, but he just hasn't shown any consistency as yet.

He's not a good finisher - it's not just luck. But he creates so many chances off his own back and has so many shots anyway I still think at some point he'll end up getting some decent points.

    RVP Fletcher Ba

    0.5m in the bank

No Chelsea is because of fixtures and their midfield being too congested with potential points scorers. At the moment it's too unclear about their favoured line-up and whether Hazard can really justify the price. No City is scary...It's either RVP or Aguero...

I know the Tevez thing is a pain right now but if he starts on Saturday and scores you will be looking for a way back in, which you don't have.

Otherwise it's a nice team. Basically what I would do with a WC if I were using it now. I might do Bego > Ming with the 0.5m.

Vidic is out with injury.. So expect UTD defence to leak goals(and to score as well!).. Leaking goals and Rafael also being a card-magnet doesn't help. And you don't expect him to score goals week-in and week-out.

So this weeks dilemma has boiled down to having either:

    A) Baines, Berbatov -4
    B) Jelly, Zabaleta
    C) Berba, Zaba with no Everton players

The decision is mainly down to which striker I would like to own long term, but I really dont know.

As an Everton fan i have a feeling Saturday (and the 2 games after that) isn't going to be the easy ride expected by many.

We have a habit of letting ourselves down. The only difference this time round is that we are playing the best football i've seen for many years and that our play & squad is stronger than before.

I wouldn't go banging 3 Everton men into your team IMO. Could be seriously let down.

Baines is a keeper though and will consitently score (even thought i don't have him :))

I think I'm going to cash in on Jussi who has risen in price since I owned him, what are your thoughts on off-loading a keeper who has performed well and seems to be rising? I feel like West Ham will have fewer CS as the season gets tougher for them. Plus Demel is cheaper and likely to rise himself. But I do feel like I'm maybe cashing in too early perhaps? If I do sell there's certainly no way I'll be going back...hmmm

I personally went the Foster/Begovic route myself.

Also have Demel. In fact your team above is same as mine except

      Gibbs, Nelson, Pienaar, Ba, Fletcher

      I have

Davies, Gorks, A Johnson, Aguero, Berbatov

(I would have Nelson over Gorkks if choosing now, but can't be bothered wasting transfer on it, will probably bring in Fabio back when he's fit).

I wonder how many people who are shipping him for a 4 pointer this week actually took a 4 pointer to bring him in... it's no skin off my nose, but I bet there are a fair few who brought him in for a hit after the QPR game and are now shipping him out for a hit, meaning he's brought their team a grand total of -2 points. Possibly 3 points if they captained him GW4.

I'm tempted to get Aguero as a money-making exercise as he will surely rise once he's scored one. But the City situation does seem a bit messy at the moment, I feel RVP is less likely to be rested compared to Aguero/Tevez over the next 3 weeks. Plus Aguero is not back fully yet to fitness/form.
