Since arriving at Arsenal from Malaga during the summer, Santi Cazorla has added his name to a raft of attacking midfielders Fantasy managers have been keeping a close eye on. As with the likes of the Premier League’s other new attacking recruits such as Chelsea’s Eden Hazard and Manchester United’s Shinji Kagawa, though, there was always an element of doubt before the season got under way; could these prestigious talents sparkle in the English top-flight and, as the old saying goes, were they able to cut it on a rainy Tuesday night match at Stoke?

Certainly from his opening two games, Cazorla’s talent was no longer in question as his slick passing and eye for goal from distance left Arsenal fans delighted and Fantasy managers licking their lips in anticipation of a flurry of points. From a Fantasy perspective doubts still remained, though, as his magnificent attacking play failed to unlock the Sunderland and Stoke defences as the Gunners registered back-to-back goalless draws.

In the Gameweek 3 trip to Liverpool, the flood gates opened and at last his potential as a key Fantasy asset was realised when the playmaker produced a goal, assist and two Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points to amass a Gameweek total of 13 points. A further assist for Cazorla followed in the Gameweek 4 demolition of Southampton, with yet another assist, plus two FPL bonus points, in last weekend’s 1-1 draw at the Etihad. By now the writing was well and truly on the wall for Cazorla, who has arrived in a burst of Spanish flair as a proven force to be reckoned with in the Premier League.

For the savvy Fantasy managers, who have been watching Cazorla’s underlying attacking statistics closely during the first part of the season, Gameweek 7 has long been pencilled in as Santi day, when Arsenal’s tough opening fixtures come to an end. After this weekend’s home clash with Chelsea, the prospects look full of promise for strong attacking returns for the Gunners throughout the rest of October (whm, nor, QPR).

There is even strong argument for drafting him in ahead of this run to catch Cazorla before his price rises even further. Initially costing 9.0 in FPL, he has already climbed by 0.3, with over 28,000 Fantasy managers snapping him up this week. There is every chance Cazorla, who is Arsenal’s top points scorer in the FPL game with 30 points, will also be able to unlock a resolute Chelsea defence.

In the Sky Sports game, where he is priced at 6.7m, he is also set to be a key asset having already amassed 43 points, the second highest among the game’s midfielders. In the Sky game Cazorla is arguably even more desirable as bonus points are awarded for successful passes, just one of a number of attributes the bedazzling little Spaniard possesses.

Wow. That is fairly amazing! Still can't put a decent cross in real games 😉

That Finnish guy can replace Jaaskelainen when he retires. No idea if he's worth anything in goal though...

Does anyone have an abnormally unbalanced ratio of home-to-away players each GW? Last GW, I had 10 home players starting. This week, I'll have 3... Hence why I only score well on odd weeks.

    A) Take out DDG and put in someone to rotate with foster (before you say jussi consider I already have demel)
    B) Swapping Tevez with Suarez/Aguero

He was also rated the 3rd best midfielder in La Liga last season, behind those two Barcelona players, I only saw Malaga play a few times last season admittedly, but that must mean something? The way you talk about him is as if I am comparing Heskey to Ronaldo.

That's because Anderson gets injured every year for several months. Ofc, if he's a regular for Spain then he's better, but that's not the only reason.

Wild card team mk II. Any opinions on this one?

    Begovic, Gazzaniga
    Baines, Rafael, Gibbs, Gorkss, Nelsen
Cazorla, Bale, Fellaini, Ben Arfa, Michu
    Van Persie, Berbatov, Lambert

I'm either going with this one or a version with Aguero instead of van Persie, Foster instead of Gazzaniga and two better defenders instead of Gorkss and Nelsen

Hi Jonny T and thank you for your reply.

Yes I will have a tough midfield decision every week and it's likely I'll bench some points. I still think I prefer it over the situation I've had up until now where I've benched Guthrie every week and been stuck with the other 7 through their bad fixtures.

I really like the version with Aguero in too.

It's just that it's so scary selling Van Persie, but it would be much much more stable in goal and in defence

Their GK situation is a bit odd. Why drop Davis for Gazzaniga, and then immediately sign Boruc? Unless they told Davis they were signing Boruc, he threw a paddy, so he got dropped.

You've gotta think Boruc has been signed to be no.1 really.

I can eke out loads of cash by doing Persie------>Aguero. I'd then have Foster/Bego and a much better defender than Nelsen in there and still cash in the bank to help me out in the future. That was my initial plan but I'm having cold feet about selling Persie

The only way to do that is by getting rid of Rafael or Gibbs for a 0.5m cheaper defender and work out a rotation. That's certainly doable. I like the idea of having them both but perhaps I can go without Rafael for a while?

I'd be happier going without Gibbs myself. The Arsenal defence seems to be very popular at the moment. Not sure why really. I know they have looked tighter this season but Chelsea, followed by back-to-back away games isn't that attractive to me. Neither West Ham or Norwich are particularly strong but still. I think you'll be lucky to get 1 CS out of those next 3 games.

United have 2 of the next 3 at home albeit against tougher teams. However Spurs have a shocking record at OT and the other game at home is Stoke. I'd be surprised if United don't pick up 2 CSs. Plus i also think Rafael will put up better attacking numbers than Gibbs.

Needless to say i own Rafael... 🙂

Your real cash problem lies in your lack of cheap mid bench fodder. I know you have reasons for your strategy, just saying that with a 4.5ish mid you can have RVP AND your better GK and def.

He was given more of a rolling role last GW and got a goal from it.

Hes a pretty skillful player and likes very much to attack. Anyone think he will get handed this role again? Worth not having him on the bench? Maybe not as i dont think they will keep a CS anytime soon but his attacking threat in a rolling role can be pretty good.

    Thoughts?

Might be the perfect excuse to drop him after Koscielny's goal. Bit harsh on the lanky German though who's started the season well from what i've seen/read

Yeah but qpr have some very nice fixtures and I'd never ever want a reading def near my starting 11!

I guess the risk to Nelson is Ferdinand returning- any qpr fans out there think Nelson would be safe regardless? Played quite well the other week (max bonus!)

I dont see why tevez wont start.....He and Aguero, he needs to keep playing them together in my opinion, either one or the other depending on how they are playing on the day will get 60 mins.....just my opionion. Everyone seems to think Dzeko and Aguero. Guessing game.

I think it depends partly on who you think might be saved for the midweek game, I think it is a choice between either Tevez or Aguero starting on the bench.

    Begovic (Foster)
    Cuellar - Baines - Demel
Hazard - Michu - Pienaar - Santi Cazorla
    Fletcher - RVP - Tevez

    subs- Guthrie,Davies,Gorkss

Right lineup and Subs in the right order? with Cuellar & Tevez both doutfull by subs might come into play,

anything worth a 4 point hit? 1.2 in the bank
