For a second week in a row, our Flutter ambitions were denied at the finishing line. Keving Nolan made his anytime goal, but The Hammers failed to keep Steven Fletcher at bay, whilst an on-fire Eden Hazard was seemingly doused by visitors Stoke City, even though The Blues back-line held firm for the cleanie. We’ve still a couple of tenners profit to play with, but as Paddy starts chipping away at our initial success, we need another decent ride or two to keep our noses in front…

Usually last out of the stalls, our new “Goal-Assist-Cleanie treble” is this weeks front-runner. Robin Van Persie’s hunger for goals has not been dampened by his summer transfer and makes up the first leg of our treble. Our second leg, the assist, comes from the rejuvenated Steven Pienaar. A bit-part player for Spurs, Moyes has made him pivotal to his Everton unit and he’s replied with a goal and three assists so far this term; we fancy him against the visiting Saints. A Sunderland clean-sheet makes up our final leg, and with four low scoring, hard-fought draws so far this season, we feel there’s a good chance of Martin O’Neill’s side keeping out visiting Wigan. Paddy are offering 20/1 for the treble on a Van Persie goal, Pienaar assist and Sunderland clean sheet, and we’re going with a “no guts, no glory” approach with this, throwing £5 on it to try and win £100.

While Pienaar has been on fire this term, it’s been Maouane Fellaini who has been simply irresistible. He’s dominated all but one of the five league games the Toffees have played so far, strong-arming players off the ball and terrorising opponents with his height and technique. If that wasn’t enough, he’s made his mark on the scoresheet, netting three in five. We’re hoping he’ll add to that this week by taking £2 on him to score and Everton to keep a cleanie against Southampton at 4/1.

As we’ve mentioned, Steven Fletcher spoiled our double last week by putting one passed Jussi Jasskelainen at the Boleyn. We’re hopefully turning villain into hero this time around as Fletcher is priced up to score and Sunderland to get a cleanie against Wigan at 9/2. He’s scored ALL of Sunderland’s goals this season so far, so this is a bet we really fancy. As we’ve gone for big risk big reward early on in the Flutter, we’ve only £2 to offer, but considering his scoring record we’re favouring this as our banker.

Last up is the tricky playmaker Santi Carzorla. Arsenal were initially a bit slow to get going but they’ve certainly built up momentum in recent weeks. A 6-1 win in the Capital One cup midweek and a similar scoreline against Southampton two gameweeks past has dispelled fears that without Van Persie, the goals would dry up. Carzorla’s managed three assists and a goal in the league and looks poised to maintain that rate. Paddy are dangling 11/1 for a Cazorla goal and a cleanie against league leaders Chelsea and we’ll have our final quid on that.

Thanks MJ for keeping me thinking about Tevez. IMO these are the pros and cons of Tevez right now.

    Pros:
    Relatively cheap
A run of bluish fixtures on the ticker
Decent involvement in a big team

    Cons:
    Doubt to start this week
Very likely to imminently miss additional games due to CL rotation in a tough group
Next three fixtures are actually difficult for goals - ful, SUN, wba
Aguero is back and likely to score more goals
Service has deteriorated with Silva subdued and Nasri injured
Big price drops on the horizon if he fails to start this week, due to his 50% ownership
City are conceding lots so there is a significant risk of them tightening up and scoring less

    Right captain discussion?

Everyone's options seem to be from the following Shortlist...

    RVP, Baines, Felliani or Ba.

Rvp, is Rvp but not an easy game despite being home. I think Rooney will play behind him and if his midweek performance was anything to go by could be great for Robin. At least an assist, probably a goal., 7/10.

Ba seems to be scoring in doing very little. Decent fixture away to reading. . . But Is Cabaye fit? If not that will hinder his return, but the return of Tiote will no doubt make Newcaslte a much better team. Im not sure though he is as strong a option as robin despite easier fixture. 6/10.

Felliani. Been on fire, Great home fixture but... Always chance of a red plus could his position be effected (in the hole / Cahill role ) if Neville goes to right back? 6/10

Now for Baines. Great fixture, but I think Southampton will score. So we could assume he starts on 2pts after losing his cleanie. Southampton are fragile at the back, and Baines is so far forward and couple that with his great crossing bailey, fk, pens and corners he still seems like a great option. 7.5/10.

I have NEVER captained a defender in my 4 fpl seasons to date but today I think I'm going to break that and go for....

    Baines (c)

    Here's hoping..... 🙂

We've got a very good record against Spurs though if I remember correctly, and they aren't exactly tight at the back at the moment.

I'm (c) Baines though for what its worth. But I am worried about RVP.

well done mate. You've convinced yourself to captain the player you think will do best. And with logic behind the decision.

Ha, I can see the reason why SP.

I always like to weigh up my captain reason in my head each Saturday morning, and give my fav worse case scenario. Thought I would share it with you all.

I am convinced Southampton will score, so I am prepared of that but... Convinced Everton will score too, and no doubt it will involve Baines. Well, hopefully.

Excellent writeup. I have had Baines (c) since Everton finished their last game, and I actually think people are underestimating the chances of Everton getting a cleanie, which should be factored in. I would not be shocked at all if they get a CS at Goodison.

I think Newcastle will dominate the midfield whether Cabaye is fit or not. If Ba starts at centre forward rather than on the right I can't see him not scoring. Despite that if I had RVP I'd be captaining him.

Southampton could easily grab a couple which puts me off Baines though admittedly he could grab a goal or assist.

Fellaini to me is a slightly better option than Baines. Crosses into the box nodded down by Fellaini for Jelavic could easily see Baines/Piennar assisting the assist.

You missed out fletcher. Four goals in three and at home to Wigan.

      RVP 8/10
      Baines 7/10
      Fellaini 7.5/10
      Ba 8/10
      Fletcher 7.5/10

    I have

Tevez, RVP and Berba up front.

Looking to sell Tevez, Berba for which of following three?

    1.Fletcher
    2.Ba
    3.Lambert

Not really convinced by either three though esp with Podolski hitting some form.

I've the band on Baines at the minute 😮 Fletcher will not score a hat-trick today if that is any consolation to you.

He's a good captain choice this week. Stick with it.

Who else do you have? I'd put it on RVP or an everton player. There should be goals for sure in those matches.

I have Bains RVP Ba.....I dont think Baines will get a cleanie but gaurenteed assist...maybe a goal. RVP could go off....He loves this kickoff time and he rapes tottenham....believe me...i watched them all. I think Fletcher is a great pick though

    Quick poll please.

Who do I play out of Dyer, Rangel and Jarvis? Need the one likeliest to get at least 2 pts seeing as I got screwed by Berbatov's injury into having to play one of them!

Can't find any papers that have named him as a starter this GW. You sure he will be?

How does the paddy power bet work with awarding assists? Is it based on if FPL award an assist?

I was playing the Arsenal v Chelsea simulation on FIFA 13, and they give scores for other matches, and in each one they had Luis scoring against Norwich. 2-1 Liverpool

Doesn't really matter I guess. You think Fletcher will get one against Wigan?
