Itโ€™s time to draw the curtain on Gameweek 6 and consider the mercurial gifts of Liverpoolโ€™s Uruguayan, the emerging pool of talent at White Hart Lane and the struggle to settle on class over form…

The Player

Luis Suarezโ€™ performance at Carrow Road was, for the second season running, a demonstration of his genius. Three sublime finishes โ€“ perhaps atypical of a player who has so often frustrated, knocked the stuffing out of the Canaries and propelled Suarez up our Watchlists.

The Uruguayan could be a supreme Fantasy talent. His numbers suggest that returns should be plentiful with almost unrivaled goal threat, plus the potential to create opportunities for others. Crucially, while the likes of Carlos Tevez and Wayne Rooney fit the same profile, Suarez stands alone in a Liverpool side without competition for his start and with little chance of rest and rotation biting.

And yet, there is an element of mistrust when it comes to Suarez. In reality and in the Fantasy realm he is perhaps the most exasperating of talents. Shots come in from all angles, one-on-one opportunities are missed, half-chances go wayward. So often Suarez has shown the intent and ability to fetch big points hauls, without delivering; except, it seems, when Delia is watching.

With a slew of options tussling for three striker slots, the fervour to grab Suarez off the back of his trip to East Anglia is somewhat dampened. He remains a gamble and one for the high rollers.

However, there is plenty of logic on show: if Liverpool have turned a corner with Saturdayโ€™s 5-2 win, then Suarez will surely be in line to profit with three home games in the next four. Stoke, Reading and Newcastle visit Merseyside, with a delicious but potentially tempestuous derby clash at Goodison looming in Gameweek 9. That boiling pot is perhaps one concern for investors; Suarezโ€™ trips out to Argentina and Bolivia after this weekend presents another.

Suarez is never an easy option, never a player who offers comfort and assured returns. Heโ€™s a world class talent who can detonate points and controversy in equal measure. Those who acquire his services are certain of a thrilling ride; those who ignore him will be hoping that he somehow finds a way to frustrate once again.

The Team

Spurs are in our sights once more. They featured here following the win at Reading but that did little to prepare us for the events of Saturdayโ€™s trip to Old Trafford. It seems weโ€™re being forced to reassess Andre Villas-Boasโ€™ side with every passing week.

Back in Gameweek 4 it was Gareth Bale and Jermain Defoe who drew the attention. While Bale remains a delicious midfield option, the win over United brought further alternatives to the fore.

Jan Vertonghenโ€™s tackle on Junior Hoilett in Gameweek 5โ€™s win over QPR demonstrated his defensive prowess, his opening goal against United showed his attacking potential. Having notched in the Capital One Cup, itโ€™s clear that the Belgian has arrived and his threat is revealed. Fantasy managers, starved of clean sheets and coming around to the allure of attacking defenders led by Leighton Baines, will now be contemplating Vertonghen. Weโ€™ll discuss him further later this week.

The Belgian has been freed at left-back as a result of Benoit Assou-Ekottoโ€™s injury, which has in-turn introduced Tottenham fans to the talents of Steven Caulker. It remains to be seen if he can now cement a starting role while Younes Kaboul remains sidelined โ€“ if he can, Caulker is another who could draw interest.

Clint Dempseyโ€™s goal also marked his return to the fray. Starting in a central role, tucked in behind Defoe, the American appears to have the opportunity to banish Gylfi Sigurdsson to a season of cameo appearances from the bench. Dempseyโ€™s goal power is undoubted, his potential only dented by the new consistency being shown by Bale as the midfield option of choice in the Villas-Boas revolution.

With Emmanuel Adebayor set to enter the picture soon, the landscape could change again. Tottenham appear to be a moveable feast with Bale the headline act, amongst a string of worthy differentials.

The Talking Point

Baleโ€™s resurgence sums up a common conundrum that faces Fantasy managers. Weโ€™ve previously discussed the merits of showing patience with proven class, waiting for form and resisting the surge from short-term bandwagons.

Owners of Eden Hazard and Michu have been subjected to three consecutive blanks as the backdrop to Baleโ€™s string of returns. That would have been painful for those who sacrificed the Welshman to acquire two players who began the season in explosive style but have since fizzled out. However, Bale demonstrates that sitting still can pay off.

Both Hazard and Michu are clearly big talents but there are concerns about the Belgianโ€™s role now that a rejuvenated Juan Mata has returned to Roberto Di Matteoโ€™s lineup, while Michu is suffering from Swanseaโ€™s recent demise.

This weekend promises to be a turning point. Both have strong fixtures which promise returns. Hazard currently leads our captain poll, emphasising that confidence in him has yet to totally evaporate. Fail to deliver against Norwich and heโ€™ll likely suffer significant sales ahead of encounters with Spurs and United.

Michu may just get two bites. He has home fixtures with Reading and Wigan โ€“ grand opportunities for Michael Laudrup to restore confidence. If Swansea are to score goals, itโ€™s difficult to imagine Michu being out of pocket.

Faith in the Spaniard is easier to show, then, but with Mata and the likes of David Silva, Bale and Santi Cazorla on offer, itโ€™s Hazard that is under pressure. Thereโ€™s little doubt he has the class โ€“ itโ€™s now down to whether heโ€™ll get enough opportunity to show it in Saturdayโ€™s crucial window. Hazard is rested to the bench for tonight’s Champions League tie in Denmark – that could well prove significant. Norwich could be in the firing line again.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

On another note, does anyone think Ba has been a bit lucky when compared to Cisse? Could returns for Cisse be just around the corner?

True that. Although that handball goal sure made up for it. Cisse on the other hand has put in just as many shots in recent weeks but is just inaccurate.

I, just happy I have owned Ba for his hot streak. Last year I held onto him for waaaay to long after the Afrocon when Cisse was hoovering up the points.

Cue Ba doing nutting when newc have their hot streak of fixtures.

I didn't have Ba last season during his hot streak and got him in during his cold streak after Acon. He is definitely the bane of my FPL experience over the last year. I'm really hoping Cisse starts to steal his thunder soon

Bit the bullet and did not get Bale in/Tevez out last night prior to the price hike/drops.

Taking my time to decide. Hope it's like last week when there is some "berbaesque" injury to put the cat among the pussy's.

BTW, if you do a check of the top 10 overall teams it's scary that 7/10 don't own Rvp. The no 2 in the world(a Saffer) has never owned him this season.
They have of course all had the foresight to get and (c)Suarez in this past week so their scores are a bit skewed, but still. Makes one think.

The reason I'm avoiding Bale for now is a) if he didn't do anything against Villa I would be so angry. b) I'd prefer to have 2FT for the int. break and c) It's just too much points chasing for my liking taking a hit to get him in.

Problem: Silva is 10 mill. Cazorla, Hazard and Bale all do the same thing for their respective clubs making Silva poor value imo. Silva's also got competing interests from the likes of Yaya et al and then there's the constant threat of rotation/gametime etc.

Hazard has even more competition with Mata and Oscar. You would also realise that since the latter two have come into the chelsea team Hazards output has nosedived. Silva has always done well at Chelsea with Toure and will continue to do well as he has proved last year. With Chelseas attack we just don't know. I would suggest that a midfield of Cazorla, Bale & Silva will be optimum in a few weeks time.

Mata is way better than Hazard, do you honestly think Hazard is better? Ahh, that's right, you're a 'stats' not 'football' kinda guy.

Interesting that you think Mata is way better than Hazard. I'd say that is a very big call. Personally I reckon there isn't much between them and in a few years Oscar will be the man as well.

Okay, not way better, but he is a better player and, when both are fit, Mata is the main man - from a real life perspective, not FPL.

The thing that's making me hesitant about Lambert is Ramirez, I have a feeling he's going to wind up being just as much a bargain as Lambert and thus freeing up a bit more cash for that more expensive striker. I noticed Ramirez had the lion's share of shots against Everton, scored and Lambert only had 1 shot in total. Food for thought...

Yeah, maybe I should just do Guthrie to Ramirez and keep tevez/ba/rvp and go without Bale this week.

Makes it possible to keep Tevez as Citeh cover and I can then get santi in for gw 8 and get Bale in for a hit in gw 9 for South(a). Just hoping gw 8(Chel vs SPurs) is low scoring affair.

Fellow Fantasists,I have run out of Red Bull and the missus has just realized that I'm still doing this, so pls pick an option out of -

    A) RVP & Kaca > Suarez & Bale (No Man U cover) £0.1 left

    B) RVP & Kaca > Ba & Bale (No Manu U cover) £1.4 left

    C) Tevez & Michu > 7.8 FWD & Bale (no Man C cover)

    D) Tevez & Fellaini > 8.1 FWD & Bale (no Everton cover)

    E) Hazard > Bale (no Chelsea cover) £1.7

    Thanks in advance......

I'm afraid you'll have to make do with a cup of tea as I don't like any of those transfers.

No point getting rid of RVP in the current form. I'd wait on Tevez first and find out what's happening.

Getting rid of Hazzard makes no sense in the week CHS play NOR.

I heard people talking up Stoke's fixtures after GW9...I'm tempted to get Wilson in to double up on Stoke's defence with Bego. I don't think I could be pushed to go for their attacking options like some were suggesting...Crouch is such an unattractive player to own...and I've never owned Walters though I can see why he could be an asset being on penalties and all. Apart from these options I guess there is Kightly at 5.5...might be worth a look. But I just think Stoke are fundamentally a defensive team so that's where I'd be looking...

Looked great, he sort of played behind the two strikers and created both of RVP's goals, one being a cross from a free kick and the second was a lovely through ball over the top. He looks like he'll be playing more as a playmaker than a striker if this continues...it's brilliant for RVP imo.

From what I saw last night , it's all good news for Rvp owners-roo ye has been given direct orders to feed him, the end result will be goals for rvp , 30+ in the league IMO barring injury and Rooney 15 and 10 assists, pity there wasn't a peno just for clarity on that one.
Saying this I do wonder how Kags fits in to the team , I suppose the q is can they all play together successfully ?

Chico will drop out and I think Saf will play kags//rvp up front at times with val / carrick/Rooney/ young or nani in mf , with cleverly/scoles/Anderson in and out .
Formations will change from game to game and rotation will be the order of the day but one thing is for sure Rvp and Rooney will play in the same team.

Will be interesting to see if the experiment last night of no wingers might be tried again for league games. It is hard to see how everything will pan out and what is the preferred line-up (if there is such a thing) Maybe they'll play Rooney out on the left?

I didn't like not having an 'Out' ball with no winger there, lack of Valencia also pegged Rafel back a great deal. Rooney is wasted if made to saty out wide (though he never seems to 'stay' anywhere).

Wayne Rooney, the new Roy Keane but with more goals. Like it.

Anyone think I should save my transfer this week or gamble on something?

    Foster
    Baines Gibbs Rafael
    Fellaini Cazorla HBA Pienaar Sterling
    RVP Fletcher Ba

Tempted to get rid of HBA despite his decent returns since I bought him. I just don't fancy having double Newcastle. Could get Michu in for him for those two nice fixtures he has but might turn out badly if he doesn't score as he'll continue to be sold. Don't expect I'll have a very good week this week so that's why I'm thinking saving a transfer to have 2FT for the int. break might be a wise decision...

i'm in the same kind situation.

i could tidy my team up arounf the edges and was thinking about making one, two or even three changes for some hits and then correcting it all with my WC later.

but i think the most sensible (and yes, boring) option is to take those 2 FT's with me and see what happens in the break.

I just feel that if I take hits this week it might really worsen the situation as taking gambles before the int. break will leave you with a real mess to sort out if it doesn't go well. Being able to make 3 transfers for a 4 point hit would be really sweet. I'm hoping my team can at least hit the 40 points mark and not embarrass me.

    Morning DZers

Got this side assembled, its alright, but im desperate to squeeze in Silva somewhere...

    Bego/jussi
    Baines Gibbs STaylor/Cuellar Demel
    Caz Bale Fellaini Barfa Kac
    RVP Tevez Lambert
    0.5 banked

The only way to do it would be Barfa-->Silva (-1.9) funded by either a downgrade of Gibbs (ruins team balance) or Tevez (to Berbs for instance) who I quite like having in the team.

So the question is whats better
    1) Barfa + Tevez + Gibbs (do nothing)
    2) Silva + Tevez + Clyne
    3) Silva + Berbs + Gibbs

Why silva? With Ben Arfa you still have a chance to get his penalty goal or his assist to Ba. I know he has bad fixtures but still Ben Arfa , Ba, Cabaye are the most crucial players in Newcastle right now so far

silva consistent and plays for a better team, sick fixtures

Barfa only scores at home, and tends to be a bit more erratic

It's frustrating as I owned Mata the first gameweek and Hazard got all the points. Now he's showing how good he is again and I'm reluctant to get him because of that disappointment. But last year Mata was one of the most consistent performers in FPL. His creativity can be second to none. He racked up the assists. That's why I chose him for the double GW. Probably needed the rest and now he's come good again. Only problem is with Hazard and Oscar there it's always a risk his returns will be lessened.
