Once again we roll out our weekly regular, assessing the strength of schedule over the next four to six Gameweeks. Stoke, Arsenal, Newcastle and City all look potentially prosperous acquisitions over the upcoming few matches, while Chelsea and Spurs could be set for a testing time ahead:

The Strong

Stoke

A trip to United looks the only blot on the landscape as the Potters’ horrendous opening schedule finally begins to clear. After their Gameweek 8 Old Trafford visit, Tony Pulis’ side then square up to (SUN, nor, QPR, whm, FUL) and while some may have doubts over their goal potential, Stoke’s defensive resolve is surely set to see their main Fantasy assets picks up plenty new investment.

Despite facing Chelsea, City, Arsenal and Liverpool in their first seven Gameweeks, Stoke have the second most impressive backline in the league, with a mere five goals conceded – a clear sign of their capabilities. Asmir Begovic – coming in at 4.6 in Fantasy Premier League – looks a cut-price keeper option and affords owners of West Brom’s Ben Foster a strong rotation partner between the sticks. Robert Huth and Ryan Shawcross are the other usual suspects, though Geoff Cameron has started five of the last six and can also be feature in Pulis’ midfield, now Andy Wilkinson has returned from suspension. Marc Wilson is a cut-price alternative, having played every minute of the season so far.

Michael Kightly and Jon Walters both appeal for different reasons in the Fantasy games. The former Wolves man is classified as a defender in the Sky Sports game, while Walters’ FPL classification as a midfielder, allied with spot-kick duties, should see him pick up new ownership. Peter Crouch’s contribution up top looks vital for Pulis – with four goals and an assist, the forward has had a hand in five of Stoke’s six goals over the opening seven Gameweeks.

Arsenal

Having shown their resilience by battling back to end West Ham’s unbeaten home record, Arsenal now find themselves with a strong run of fixtures to continue their recent good form. The Gunners travel to Norwich next and with Chris Hughton’s side shipping nine in the last two matches, there is clear armband potential amongst Arsene Wenger’s regulars at Carrow Road.

Arsenal then have three home fixtures in the following four, with plenty of Fantasy managers keen to scramble aboard. Santi Cazorla looks the main protagonist, while Wenger’s decision to play Olivier Giroud through the centre and shift Gervinho out wide may see Lukas Podolski’s appeal increase, with the German’s role on the left pretty much nailed-on.

At the back, while Thomas Vermaelen’s attacking threat is reflected in his higher cost, Kieran Gibbs looks the only guaranteed starter in the mid-price bracket over the long-term now; Bacary Sagna is edging ever-closer to a return, placing huge question marks over Carl Jenkinson’s game time at right-back.

Newcastle

Trips to Sunderland and Liverpool aside, the next six Gameweeks look kind to Alan Pardew’s side. After the Gameweek 8 Tyne-Wear derby, Newcastle have three home games (WBA, WHM, SWA) and a trip to Southampton in the following five matches – offering potential of Fantasy points right across the board.

At the back, Danny Simpson has now dropped to 4.8 in FPL and while doubts remain over Tim Krul’s availability, Steven Taylor and Fabricio Coloccini could be in line to return and significantly boost the Magpies’ defensive prospects. Hatem Ben Arfa, with attacking returns in three of his four home appearances, is the only real contender in Pardew’s midfield, while Demba Ba remains the top scoring forward in FPL despite Sunday’s blank against United. Papiss Cisse now has just 4% ownership in FPL and could be a real differential if he can regain confidence and form up front.

Man City

The champions head into the international break having recorded back-to-back wins for the first time this season. With a first clean sheet also accrued, Roberto Mancini’s side are starting to click as the campaign begins to settle. City now have three home games (SWA, TOT, AVL) in the next five fixtures allied with trips to West Brom and West Ham – the Baggies 100% home record looks to be in real danger as Sergio Aguero and co make their way to the Hawthorns next time round.

Yaya Toure and David Silva can expect to see investment come their way in light of City’s schedule, with the midfield duo pretty much protected from their manager’s rotational whims, though the same can hardly be applied to the defence. Micah Richards’ return against Sunderland merely confuses the situation further – Vincent Kompany remains the only defender who will play if fit, though missed out last weekend with a calf problem.

Up front, Aguero served his managers a timely reminder of his cutting edge against the Black Cats. Unexpectedly moved to the bench at the weekend, the Argentine took a matter of minutes to find the net – something Carlos Tevez hasn’t done since the end of Gameweek 3.

Also Consider

Everton – the fixture list continues to smile kindly on David Moyes’ men. The Toffees have three prosperous looking Goodison games in the next six (LIV, SUN, NOR) and with trips to struggling QPR and Reading also on their agenda, owners of Leighton Baines, Marouane Fellaini, Steven Pienaar and Nikica Jelavic will be anticipating plenty more points.

Southampton – although they’ve yet to pick up a point on the road, Nigel Adkins’ side have offered a strong source of attacking returns at St Mary’s. The Saints have now scored eight times in their last three home games and with (TOT, SWA, NEW) paying visit in the next six Gameweeks, the promoted club will need to continue their recent goal returns, with clean sheets proving impossible to come by. Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana are the obvious choices here – Gaston Ramirez’s owners will be hoping the Uruguayan can quickly recover from a leg problem.

Fulham – the Cottagers are afforded a decent run of fixtures over the next five as Martin Jol looks to improve on their recent displays. The return to fitness of Dimitar Berbatov is obviously vital – Fulham have taken a point from the last two in the Bulgarian’s absence – and with (AVL, EVE, SUN) and a trip to Reading in the next five, the former United man looks armband material for that Gameweek 8 clash with Villa in particular. John Arne Riise offers a source of creativity from the back, with three assists already, while Damien Duff’s guaranteed game time makes him a more secure punt than Alex Kacaniklic, in spite of the latter’s budget-friendly price tag.

The Weak

Aston Villa

One point from the last three games, a single clean sheet all season and Darren Bent dropped to the bench – Paul Lambert’s arrival hasn’t quite worked out for the midlanders yet. Unfortunately for Villa, the upcoming schedule is showing no mercy. Trips to Fulham and Sunderland hardly appeal, while games against United, City and Arsenal are also set to severely test Lambert’s squad over the next six Gameweeks. With a mere 2.5% ownership, Ciaran Clark is the most popular Villa player in FPL – a sure sign of how little Fantasy faith we have in the midlanders right now.

Tottenham

Andre Villas-Boas’ side steel themselves for a tricky upcoming run of fixtures which could test their winning run. Spurs have now triumphed in their last four, with a victory at United indicative of their flourishing form, but now entertain Chelsea at the Lane and travel to City and Arsenal in the next five. While clashes against Southampton and Wigan hold huge appeal for Gareth Bale owners, Jermain Defoe will be looking over his shoulder with Emmanuel Adebayor now approaching full fitness, while the likes of Jan Vertonghen may struggle for new investment at the back – Steven Caulker’s cut-price appeal offers a slightly less risky route into the back-four.

Chelsea

With just two points dropped and four goals conceded in their opening seven matches, the Champions League winners have been quick out the blocks but now embark on a run of games which will test their potential to the full. Roberto Di Matteo’s side square up to Spurs, United, Liverpool and City in the next six Gameweeks and with trips to Swansea and West Brom also on the cards, there seems little opportunity for armband potential here. Branislav Ivanovic and Eden Hazard could face a battle to hold onto top spot in the FPL defender and midfielder rankings respectively, while Spanish duo Juan Mata and Fernando Torres will need to replicate their recent impressive showings for the Blues to prosper.

Also Be Wary Of…

Swansea – With two or more goals conceded in each of their last five matches and just two points accrued from Gameweek 3 onwards, Michael Laudrup’s side have quickly went off the boil. While the upcoming home clash against Wigan will afford Michu a temporary reprieve, Swansea’s assets could be on the verge of substantial sales. The Welsh club then face City, Chelsea, Newcastle and Liverpool in the following five, with only a trip to Southampton offering any sort of solace from an unrelenting schedule. Michel Vorm, Ashley Williams and Angel Rangel also look on shaky ground.

West Brom – Steve Clarke’s side square up to three of last season’s top six in the next five Gameweeks, with their winning streak at the Hawthorns set to be fully tested. City and Chelsea both pay visit, while a trip to Newcastle also looks a tricky proposition. With games against Southampton and Wigan also on the horizon, however, owners of James Morrison, Ben Foster and Gareth McAuley will be happy to hold.

    Hi lads

Trying to figure out who I should prioritise for selling. I have 2 FT's and £0.0 in the bank.

    Currently thinking Lowton > Wilson + Tevez > Ba/Podolski

Should I consider selling Yaya over Tevez or not?

    Tevez > Berbatov a better idea than > Ba/Podolski?

    Mignolet Schwarzer

    Ivanovic Ridgewell Cuellar Lowton Clyne

    Hazard Yaya Michu Pienaar Maloney

    RVP Tevez Fletcher

Bought the new Pro Evo, it's awesome.

I haven't tried the new Fifa, or really played any Fifa game properly since RTWC98, but I think I can say without any doubt at all that this years Pro is much better than this years Fifa.

Interesting. I've always been a fan of both. Pro is great fun for a lads night in, FIFA more of a pick up and play whenever kind of game. For long term appeal, especially online I prefer FIFA but the new Pro is still as good as ever for throwing up fantastic matches.

I am still sour about the fact I left Fonte on the bench over Clark. Managed to beat my H2H opponent in my ML based on bonus points again which was yet another lucky turn of events. I'd like to think I don't get this kind of luck much again in the future. And now, with international break again roaming this weekend, it's making me bit desperate about getting other much better players in for a hit, and then overthinking things. As long as I don't click the transfer tab, I should be fine with it. 😆

And especially you lot! Stop saying this player looks good in the coming weeks, blah, blah. 😆

Never really - the beauty of the 5th mid. He's a talent but hardly ever gonna get in the points even in a good fixture. A good sub to have - I went for Noble at 4.8 over him though. Honestly think he will score more over the season with pens and all set pieces under his belt with Andy Carroll lurking.

    My current attacking 8 are:
    Hazard, Pienaar, Michu, Bale (Kaca)
    RVP, Ba, Lambert

    and the plan was:
    GW8: Hazard -> Cazorla
    GW9: Michu -> Barfa

However, with their run of (SWA, whu, TOT, AVL) to come, is City cover essential?
I am contemplating bringing in one of Silva, Yaya or Aguero for this reason.

    So should I:

A: Hazard -> Cazorla // Michu -> Barfa (no City coverage)
    B: Hazard -> Silva/Yaya // Michu -> Barfa
    C: Hazard -> Cazorla // RVP -> Aguero // Michu -> Silva/Mata (no United cover, -4 pts)
    D: Hazard -> Cazorla // RVP -> Rooney // Michu -> Silva/Mata (-4pts)

Yeah it's definitely a concern if I went with D.
I also think RVP -> Rooney is a bit sideways and there's a high chance Rooney will be outscored by RVP especially with Rooney playing deeper and more likely to be rotated.

Assaidi still has to adapt to the PL.

Afternoon guys. Any thoughts on the below?

    Foster Begovic
    Baines Jenkinson Saylor Cuellar Demel
    Hazard Cazorla Pienaar Michu Sterling
    RVP Tevez Lambert
    2FTs, 0.0 in bank

    A. Hazard > Silva/Bale; keep Tevez.
    B. Hazard > Silva/Bale; Tevez > Berbs…..Allows Michu > Mata.
    C. Anything else?

Is dropping Hazard for Bale sensible, especially as they have Chelsea, City, Arsenal in the next 5? I quite fancy having Berbatov in the long run but I'm currently leaning towards A as I like the value Lambert offers. I should also have enough funds for Jenkinson to Sagna with both options. Thanks for any help!

I've just had this Hazard dilemma, see previous page. Was all set to get Bale to spread coverage as have Torres too. However, ended up doing Hazard>Mata, as not gaining anything with Bale in fixtures or form particularly, but saving loads of cash to let me consider RVP+Hangeland>Rooney+Baines next gameweek with two frees.

I am working towards Tevez out / Silva in and playing a 3-5-2.

Would you say B then with Silva instead of Bale? Means I would have Silva Cazorla Mata, Berba RVP Lambert. I'm keeping RVP for now and probably for a fair while but may re-evaluate in a few weeks.

RVP is the biggest headache to figure out this season. Is he worth 13mil? What other united options do you have? Do you need united cover? What can you get if you go without RVP in your squad? Reliable captain? Who has free kicks and pens? So many questions

Nah. I am biased though. I hardly ever own Rooney, unless he's on fire with fantastic fixtures. Otherwise I tend to find him overpriced. I think he'll be fantastic - for Van Persie's points!

Basically my plan with RVP is to give him the Stoke game, try and get a better idea of how he's playing within the team, and make a decision to keep through che ARS then. But will leave the door open (or enough money in the bank) to get him back in GW11 if I think the signs are good.

Yep. I think "value" or "worth" is something to watch out for. Your team has to include some options with good value to allow you to get big hitters who will top the points charts. The top scorers may not be good value but you're not really looking for value from them. As long as they deliver I can't see the sense in getting rid. RVP -> anyone other than Aguero and Rooney allows for a strong 5 man midfield but thats irrelevant as you can't play them every week. Having RVP and 4 strong midfielders will do as well even if RVP is getting 5-6 a game, as long as you get the right midfielders and plan transfers well.

I understand the value argument isn't as strong for top bracket players but there still is a case to answer for value against Rooney/Aguero. The 1.8 to 2.5 mil you can have turns a 7mil into a Bale or a 5mil defender into Baines. This has to be thought of.

I am really convincing myself to go RVPless

I think if I was on a wildcard I'd go with someone with the best next 3 (Berbatov, Giroud, Suarez), keep enough money in the bank to upgrade to RVP if he looks dangerous going into their great run of fixtures. And if you don't end up doing it, that's when you go and spend your extra RVP money elsewhere.

I don't have RVP at the moment, and no Man United cover. Don't feel I need any at the moment while the fixtures aren't great, I'll probably get someone in (not sure who) around GW11 when the fixtures turn good, until then other teams have better fixtures.

You don't NEED RVP for captain choice, though. Definitely not. If you spread the cash about you have many options. You'll almost always have at least one, often more I reckon, players that'll have a good fixture. Had him for GWs 2-4 and it turns out, so far, RVP has been my only 'captain fail'.

Not particularly. Asides from the Wigan game Stoke have been pretty decent defensively, and there is a chance that RVP might well be rested. He'll probably play, but there is a slight doubt there for sure.

    Players currently OOP

    Walters
    Boyce
    Baird
    Mbia
    Cameron (maybe)
    Gervinho (probably not any more)

    Any others?

PS: I've never really understood why Walters is considered OOP but Michu, Morrison, Cazorla, Ramirez and all the other 'in the hole' players aren't, despite the fact that their average position shows them at least as far forward...?

Because when Walters play OOP he is up front alongside Crouch in a 4-4-2, not in the hole. Last weekend he played on the wing though so be wary.

Your point about average position is probably distorted by the fact he and Crouch both defend with the team and drop back but the others you list don't as much.

Depends on your team, for me its pretty much Hazard vs Aguero and looking at the fixtures is a no brainer..

Nani problem is he is Nani. Seem to be on a different wave length to everyone else on the pitch.

I think SAF played that formation (no natuarl wide players) against Newcastle as a tactical move. Nani will be back imo

I just played my wildcard and my new team is

    Jaaskelainen Begovic

    Baines Cashley Jenkinson Rafael Wilson

    Mata Carzorla Bale Routledge Morrison

    Fletcher Berbatov Jelavic

what do people think? I've got 0.4m free.

I like my front line and my defense is okay, midfield should give solid returns.

      My tuppence:
Sagna will displace Jenkinson before November.
2 CFC is overkill with their fixtures.
I think you'll want one of Aguero/Tevez/Silva before long

Yep nice team and you probably won't have to worry too much about rotation. I'd be a little concerned by the lack of City and Utd attacking coverage since they create a lot of chances...

I'm not sure you need to spend quite so much on the defence though so maybe downgrade Jenkinson to a 4.something defender. Not sure where you'd use the money but you never know...

    Who to pick?

    A) Riise
    B) D Simpson
    C) Rafael
    D) Baines (leaving 0.2 in the bank)?

With only 1ft, I'd have Baines, Pienaar and Jelavic which just seems like way too much Toffee

With no Fulham cover, I was tempted by Riise...

Top 20k, more than happy with that, and topping my mini-leagues. Won't last all season - but I've still got my wildcard for a rainy day, and the only thing I'm not happy about is my bench really so can't complain 🙂

Really dont think 2 4.0s in defence is the way to go. Cuellar is fantastic value. Would bring him in for Clyne. When you get injuries or unexpected benchings the 4th good defender is often a better source of points than a 5th mid.

5th mid is poor - I've gone for Noble at 4.8 - hasn't been great so far but hes on pens still and will get assists with Carroll there. Over the season would expect 5 goals, 5-8 assists. Other options are Britton (for cheapness) or Sterling. Spearing wont play.

Like the rest. I'd go for RVP or Rooney as one of your strikers - looks at United's fixtures gw11-21!! Also Silva over Bale for me. Then fill the last slot with Lambert.
