International breaks are the bane of a Fantasy manager’s life. Every day we brace ourselves for reports of withdrawals and possible injury scares and today is no exception. Marouane Fellaini has picked up a knee problem, Robert Snodgrass and Romelu Lukaku both have ankle worries, while Winston Reid awaits results of a back scan…

Reports suggest Marouane Fellaini could be set to miss the next three weeks with a knee problem. The midfielder is said to have picked up the injury in last Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Wigan and has since undergone scans with the Belgium medics – he is now out of his nation’s upcoming games and would be regarded as a real doubt for the Toffees Gameweek 8 trip to QPR if the initial prognosis proves correct.

There is now a wash of reports following the breaking news late last night but Everton are yet to comment on the story, which was published initially on the Belgian FA website. Any confirmed absence would surely prompt significant sales across the Fantasy games. Fellaini has risen to 7.3 from 6.5 in FPL after grabbing three goals in the first five Gameweeks – owned by over 31% of Fantasy managers, he has a strong upcoming schedule which could afford plenty opportunity to rack up the points should be overcome the problem in time for the Loftus Road clash on Sunday October 21.

Robert Snodgrass has been ruled out of the Scotland squad due to an ankle problem. The injury was kept under wraps at the weekend –an unused sub for the game at Chelsea due to the problem, Snodgrass’ omission was generally assumed to be tactical. Having started the Canaries’ first six games this season, the former Leeds man has been a crucial component of Chris Hughton’s first-team – today’s news at least eased fears that he has become prone to rotation under the new manager.

Goran Popov has again reiterated his desire to nail down the left-back role for West Brom. The on-loan defender revealed yesterday:

“I want more than a year. My future is here, I don’t want to go back. So for me it is important now to play and show that I am good enough to stay in English football. I would like to stay here after this year. This is my future and I am thinking like that. That’s why I came here. If I wanted to be back in Kiev I wouldn’t have come here. I came here because I know I can play here. We have spoken about it and the club have said if I do well here this year I can sign for one or two years more.”

Popov has stepped in for the injured Liam Ridgewell over the last couple of matches but the former Birmingham is now afforded the fortnight international break to recover in time for the Gameweek 8 home showdown with City. Having been handed a first-team opportunity, Popov is likely to find out where he stands in the pecking order if Ridgewell returns to fitness – while the Macedonian’s cheaper cost is more appealing from Fantasy perspective, he’s likely to be hard pushed to keep Ridgewell out of Steve Clarke’s starting line-up.

Elsewhere for the Baggies, Romelu Lukaku has pulled out of the Belgium squad ahead of the upcoming internationals. The forward, who made his sixth sub appearance of the season in the weekend win over QPR, has sustained an ankle problem.

Winston Reid has delayed heading off on international duty with New Zealand as he awaits the results of back scans. The centre-half suffered muscle spasms during the Hammers’ 3-1 defeat against Arsenal on Saturday evening – James Tomkins stepped off the bench to replace the Kiwi in Gameweek 6 and would be set to step in if Reid has suffered any injury.

I think it might get hard to ignore Lennon if AVB keeps starting him...in fact I really can't see a reason why he would be dropped or rotated...who else plays Right wing for spurs? No-one really...

I've never generally fanced him much because he's not a goalscorer but at 7m he's an easy route into an attacking spurs team and the fact he scored against Villa suggests a new found confidence perhaps.

Can't see him losing faith at this rate...plus he's set it up that way so he'd need a shift in tactics to drop him like you said. He doesn't seem to trust Siggy at the moment and Demps is being bedded in. Will monitor for further developments but if Lennon is nailed on (which he wasn't in previous seasons I don't believe) then he has to be an option at 7m.

+1 he always started when fit
looking at sturrigde role last season in AVB's chelsea system lennon is definitly tempting
              look out for those hamstrings
spurs dnt have another RW, dempsey operates on the left side of midfield when not in the hole and last season redknapp used to leave the RW empty in lennons abscense and push walker into baines like role to compensate and plays modric higher up the pitch with sandro and parker sitting deep
this non symetric formation worked at times

I mean he's essentially doing the same thing as Bale is but is less shot-happy than Bale. With Dempsey there and Defoe on form Lennon could rack up assists and the odd goal would be a bonus.

Being the nerd that I am, I had a look at minutes per point for Bale and Lennon last season. Bale is slightly better at 16.5, with Lennon not far behind on 17.7. If Lennon (emphasis on the if) gets more minutes this season he will be good value.

I think you get what you pay for.

For ~7m you get a player who can get into dangerous positions to set up team-mates and perhaps score the rare goal.

For ~9m you get a player who consistently creates chances for his team-mates and has a lot of goal threat, both from open play and from set-pieces. He's also immune to rotation when on form.

The main drawbacks with Lennon are that he can't really cross, shoot or make decisions, and since he got a goal last week he's going to spend the next few games thinking he can score and making a fool of himself by shooting a lot.

Someone asked earlier if Lallana's fantasy prospects were better or worse when Ramirez was also playing:

Looking at the stats for the first seven game weeks, Lallana averaged 3.0 PPG without Ramirez and 4.3 PPG with Ramirez. Hope that helps.

Fixtures may have been a factor though:

    GW1 (mci)
    Lallana - 5 points

    GW2 (WIG)
    Lallana - 2 points

    GW3 (MUN)
    Lallana - 2 points

    GW4 (ars)
    Lallana - 2 points
    Ramirez - 1 point

    GW5 (AVL)
    Lallana - 6 points
    Ramirez - 5 points

    GW6 (eve)
    Lallana - 5 points
    Ramirez - 7 points

    GW7 (FUL)
    Lallana - 5 points

Thanks for this Hubert...seems to me that it can only be a good thing having Ramirez in there. They don't cancel each other out that's for certain. Plus I think Lallana is on corners permanently so always has a good threat for assists. Ramirez seems more like a straight attacking mid...possible Michu-esque potential about him.

Early transfers + extra money VERSUS Late transfers + more security

e.g. I will do Tevez > Berbatov. Tevez will fall soon and if I wait I will lose out on 0.1m (not more, surely).

Last year I prioritised money and never waited on transfers if it would cost even 0.1m. Over the course of the year that policy probably saved me 1.0 - 1.5m. But I did get bitten twice by subsequent injuries forcing point hits. That cost me 8pts.

8pts seems worthwhile price for an extra 1.0 - 1.5m to spend.

im always in favor of an early tranfer when internationals or CL is not in play
for example berba and tevez are both out of their national teams so risk for injury is very minimal
if u have a strong bench then do it now coz u might face problems elsewhere

I agree to some extent...I'd hate to be conservative and wait til the last moment to transfer in a player in who has just rose .2m or something. Even if he got injured you could sell for .1m profit for instance...not the end of the world.

The thing I will say is here you'd be transferring in a player who is currently injured and recovering. A relapse of something on the road to recovery would make this transfer unbelievably frustrating. Plus Berb could drop further during this break...

That is a good point about Berbs but I think I'll probably risk it. Jol said he was very close to making the last game.

He might drop again, although it's looking unlikely whereas Tevez definitely will drop.

I think it's not so bad if it's a well though-out move and you're all set on the move. Especially works out if you wouldn't be able to afford the player after the rise.

However, I wouldn't take price-rises into account when targeting players. If I'm not 100% sure, I try not to let the price changes influence me.

For example, I did RVP > Ade & Lampard > Kagawa in GW3 and I was too heavily influenced by price changes. In hindsight they were risky moves and I should have given myself more time to think about it and explore other options.

Yep, that's a good point. In this case I am 100% set on Berbs (and later Aguero, hence Tevez out) so no problem.

But I too have brought players in partly because their price was rocketing and I didn't want to miss out. It's a silly thing to do.

Another example was my WC in GW 4. I wanted Santi and Bale OR Hazard. Went Hazard because of market trends even though I felt Bale was a better pick. We all know how that went - 3 blanks on the trot while Bale scores points for fun!

True that. Plan is to get both out. Main priority is Foster but he's up against City. Unless I stick with Friedel one more week, and then get Begovic in. I favour Foster and Begovic at the moment - who would you get in first with Foster at home against City and Begovic away against United?

                I agree with this.

Begovic will be really great value over the next few weeks and all you have to do is choose who to bring in as rotation - Foster or Juusi.

Get Begovic first as he has good fixtures, apart from this week, for quite a while. All 3 of those will concede imo, so go for the better long term option.

You have to factor in though that Fulham are better on the road this season and Berb is the focal point of all attacks. out of that Stoke looks the trickiest. Can see him scoring against Everton and Spurs at home. He'll be nicely fired up for the Spurs game as well.

To be honest - I don't really but need to do that to fund Fellaini > Silva

There's no midfielders for under 8.3 (thats my budget) that I want.

        Current team is

        Foster - Bego
        Baines - Verm - Demel - Gorkks - Davies
Cazorla - Fellaini - Ben Arfa - Nolan - Maloney

I agree the suspension thing was always a bad thing and the injury was just unlucky but you have to admit that there hasn't been many midfielders with so much attacking threat over recent seasons. Whether he'll continue to be so attacking in future is unclear.

If you have Nolan then switch to morrison in 2 gws you'll get the following run of fixtures:

      GW8: SOUTHAMPTON
      GW9: wigan
      GW10: SOUTHAMPTON
