International breaks are the bane of a Fantasy manager’s life. Every day we brace ourselves for reports of withdrawals and possible injury scares and today is no exception. Marouane Fellaini has picked up a knee problem, Robert Snodgrass and Romelu Lukaku both have ankle worries, while Winston Reid awaits results of a back scan…

Reports suggest Marouane Fellaini could be set to miss the next three weeks with a knee problem. The midfielder is said to have picked up the injury in last Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Wigan and has since undergone scans with the Belgium medics – he is now out of his nation’s upcoming games and would be regarded as a real doubt for the Toffees Gameweek 8 trip to QPR if the initial prognosis proves correct.

There is now a wash of reports following the breaking news late last night but Everton are yet to comment on the story, which was published initially on the Belgian FA website. Any confirmed absence would surely prompt significant sales across the Fantasy games. Fellaini has risen to 7.3 from 6.5 in FPL after grabbing three goals in the first five Gameweeks – owned by over 31% of Fantasy managers, he has a strong upcoming schedule which could afford plenty opportunity to rack up the points should be overcome the problem in time for the Loftus Road clash on Sunday October 21.

Robert Snodgrass has been ruled out of the Scotland squad due to an ankle problem. The injury was kept under wraps at the weekend –an unused sub for the game at Chelsea due to the problem, Snodgrass’ omission was generally assumed to be tactical. Having started the Canaries’ first six games this season, the former Leeds man has been a crucial component of Chris Hughton’s first-team – today’s news at least eased fears that he has become prone to rotation under the new manager.

Goran Popov has again reiterated his desire to nail down the left-back role for West Brom. The on-loan defender revealed yesterday:

“I want more than a year. My future is here, I don’t want to go back. So for me it is important now to play and show that I am good enough to stay in English football. I would like to stay here after this year. This is my future and I am thinking like that. That’s why I came here. If I wanted to be back in Kiev I wouldn’t have come here. I came here because I know I can play here. We have spoken about it and the club have said if I do well here this year I can sign for one or two years more.”

Popov has stepped in for the injured Liam Ridgewell over the last couple of matches but the former Birmingham is now afforded the fortnight international break to recover in time for the Gameweek 8 home showdown with City. Having been handed a first-team opportunity, Popov is likely to find out where he stands in the pecking order if Ridgewell returns to fitness – while the Macedonian’s cheaper cost is more appealing from Fantasy perspective, he’s likely to be hard pushed to keep Ridgewell out of Steve Clarke’s starting line-up.

Elsewhere for the Baggies, Romelu Lukaku has pulled out of the Belgium squad ahead of the upcoming internationals. The forward, who made his sixth sub appearance of the season in the weekend win over QPR, has sustained an ankle problem.

Winston Reid has delayed heading off on international duty with New Zealand as he awaits the results of back scans. The centre-half suffered muscle spasms during the Hammers’ 3-1 defeat against Arsenal on Saturday evening – James Tomkins stepped off the bench to replace the Kiwi in Gameweek 6 and would be set to step in if Reid has suffered any injury.

There's sceptical, there's cynical, there's conspiracy theory and then there's Hanamichi's attitude towards Fellaini's injury.

I suppose the other consideration with Fellaini is that he's one yellow card away from suspension as well, so he could easily miss two of the next three games.

On WC and want arsenal def cover until Sagna up and running, which I think would be 2/3 games away at least.

Wenger is going to play horses for courses with his centre backs, either Mert or Kosc will play depending on the context but Verm should be safe.

His combativeness and leadership allows him a lot of grace. The modern football fan places almost too much emphasis on positioning and distribution now - we've become *too* clever. Vermaelen is a perfect fit in this league and wins points with last ditch recoveries, blocks and sheer bloody mindedness. Things that Mertesacker, while a class above positioning wise, does not offer.

He's also a real leader - which is also underestimated a bit these days I think.

Not going to be able to afford gibbs. Would have just enough for sagna but no poiint bringing him in yet. Obviously could get jenkinson, but my reasoning for per would be that I'd still have def cover the first game sagna comes back (if per keeps his place of course, that is the question).

Ok, cool thanks guys. Looks like rotation will bite. Hmm, might have to just listen to wenger press conference before next game and hear his thoughts on sagna. If he's still a while off could get jenkinson, I'd be benching away at utd anyway so would be only for nor, QPR which I feel Jenkinson should play.

    Foster
    Baines – Riise – Gibbs
    Cazorla – Silva – Pienaar – Lennon
    Tevez – Suarez – Berbatov

    Bego – McCartney – Fonte - Sterling

I have no Chelsea or Utd Coverage, but plan on swapping tevez for torres soonish

i see a pattern in which giroud has came on for Pod with another player on 4 occasions:-

    1. with Walcott on 73' against Soton, before the Montpellier game
2.again with Walcott on 70' against City, when they were trailing 0-1
    3. again with Walcott on 65' against Chelsea, before the Olympiakos game, when they were trailing 1-2
    4. with Ramsey on 80' during the Olympiakos clash, when they were leading 2-1

hence a tactical switch by Wenger. Mind you, Pod is arsenal most subbed off player; he's being sustituted every single game (including both the Champions League game!).. If i have Pod, i couldn't bear watching him being subbed off regularly!

I personally think Giroud will spearhead the attack again, and Gerv playing out wide. Gerv has started both UCL matches so far, so it wouldn't be strange if he was rested or play cameo role against lowly Norwich. Wenger might opt for AOC & Le Coq from the start, like he did against Soton. Great time to pick Giroud, i suppose.

I couldn't bear watching my player subbed on, but getting subbed off around the 70 min mark is cool with me as a Podolski owner. It's the fact that he plays on the wing, and thus has less fpl output which tempts me to get rid of him.

I'd love to get behind them but whenever they play I just can't. I don't know if it's the fact they often seem uninterested or if it's because they just want to perform well individually to make their contract negotiation easier with their club.

Just a thing about that writeup you might be doing. Just had a look at the Bundesliga table after what Nitin said, and it seems it is quite closely correlated with total points, whereas La Liga on the other hand is all over the shop. Maxi being last and Bonz being 3rd is just absurd.

You know, if you sort it by Pts Against, Lateriser faced the toughest opponents with the combined score of 450.

I also had the worse opponents in Serie-A with a combined score of 414. Is it coincident that both of us targeted were Indians in DZ? In all likelihood it is 🙂

Roscola - are you really doing Tevez > Berbatov? And if so, any plans for City cover in the near future?

I am a huge fan of Berbatov and it's something I'm considering, but Tevez seems to be in a better team, creating more chances, and with better fixtures. They're both exceptional value clearly, but I see more points potential in Tevez for a good while yet. Am I missing something??

Yep, I'm getting Aguero and Silva very soon.

I don't get many things right in this game, I'm very much a noob. But I'm pleased to have called things right during pre-season when everyone was debating Tevez & Aguero gametime. I kept saying the issue wasn't gametime (being first choice partnership they'll both get roughly the same) but rather points scored.

Tevez is a phenomenal player but I still think Aguero has more points in him than Tevez. Going RVP-less means I don't have to squeeze every last bit of value from every position.

Aha - thought so. Thanks for confirming.

I've been looking at Kun too. Not this week I don't think, but I will probably make the sideways scuttle of Tevez > Kun soon. (Although hoping it's not as sideways as all that) Kun's finish vs Sunderland really had me purring.

I think I'm going to RVP + Aguero + Giroud up front. And doing that by ignoring Bale, Mata and Silva.

That is one big fat frontline, I like it. Wish I had the cohones for Giroud. I really hope it pays off for you.

No Bale could hurt you but you can live without Mata and Silva, definitely.

I'm think I'm going for RVP > Berba and leaving Tevez in for now. Can always upgrade him to Aguero with the spare cash or maybe Michu > Silva/Valencia.

I see Tevez as being good value if he gets 75%+ gametime, whereas RVP needs to be playing every week and scoring well most weeks to justify his price.

Lets play a game then. Its called, bench a player.

    Yaya Michu Pienaar Santi Sterling
    RVP Tevez Berba

Most will say Sterling, i am tempted to bench Yaya. RDG defence is leaking and Sterling is due.

I'm a newbie, and have a wildcard to play after picking a woeful team first time around.

I'm thinking of the following line up:

    Foster / Begovic
    Cole / Baines / Gorkss / Nelsen / Clyne
    Sterling / Pienaar / Cazorla / Gervinho / Ramirez
    Jelavic / Aguero / Torres

    Remaining: £0.3m

The tough omissions were Bale, Ba, Suarez and Silva. Would any of you accomodate them in that line-up?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

This is what Wenger has to say about Giroud, Walcott and Forehead afte the West Ham game..

"Olivier Giroud deserved his goal and I thought he played well. He almost scored from a similar situation against Olympiacos and he showed once again that he has a physical presence up front. The goal will help him to adapt quickly. He slowly gets there and you're confident now that when he gets in front of goal he will score."

"Theo Walcott was our other goalscorer and he has showed an outstanding attitude. I believe in him, otherwise I would not bring him on at a crucial time in the game. Gervinho looked a bit tired and Theo made the difference. He scored the second goal and that was the most important one"

so mr. Lateriser, i think it's not too late to rope in your French man.. =)

I'm pretty set on Podolski > Giroud, because I think it's time. But the big question is whether Plan Giroud will be kept as an away day plan, with something more 'strikerless' with Pod or G used at home - or whether Giroud as No.9 will be the general go-to formation now. Hoping it's the latter. If it doesn't work out and he's benched for QPR at home (I think he'll almost certainly start at Norwich), then I will most likely to Giroud > Berbatov I guess.

But my feeling is Giroud just went from Plan B to Plan A.

Which 3 would you start out of these for the next lot of games...

    Baines, Jenkinson, Cuellar, Hughes, Demel

Sagna definitely won't be back in the first team any time soon in my opinion, and certainly won't be getting back in without a fight at the moment.

          Rubbish IMO.
As much you lot are raving about Jenkinson for me he's been distinctly average whereas Sagna is the best (or 2nd best) RB in the league.

I don't think he's been average at all, nor does any supporter I've spoken to at any game this season.

Sagna should be completely match fit by the start of November, most Arsenal supporters would be very surprised to see him straight back in week in week out imo.. Even though I also rate him very highly at the same time.

Why? I think it makes some sense...Crouch is the one they aim at...whereas in seasons before Crouch wasn't there so Huth was the big guy.
