In the first of three Numbers Game articles focusing on goal threat, we examine the leading midfielders on show with seven Gameweeks down. We investigate averages in our own ICT Index, before probing further to cast an eye over some key indicators amongst the current crop of top 20 midfielders for goal attempts thus far.
Howyas lads.
Fellaini owners ; the latest is that he'll be back ASAP. Not exactly promising for GW8. So, are you sticking or twisting?Open ControlsTwisting like an Afro doing the shuffle.
Doing a major upgrade to..Maloney.
Then Michu to Mata in GW9.Open Controls
Just wondering is VdV injured? He hasnt started the last few games! Is he out of favour with AVB?
Thanks.Open Controls- Open Controls
Wait... you were serious? VDV doesn't play for Tottenham... 😆
Open Controls
Darren Anderton's keeping him out of the side at the minute, I'd stick with him
Open ControlsHow random, was thinking of going with Freund but I felt sick note offered greater comedy value
Open Controls
And yes this is the place to come to screw up your competitors.
Never post what you actually think otherwise the spies will have eyes!
Berb is a fookin fruitcake to pick !---get off the gravy train? serious........You want a striker from Ful..
Get off b4 the next GW kicks off___and you'll be glad you did!------trust me I am PINKFISH.Open ControlsBe careful what i post eh? Ok... i'm going with this:
http://tinyurl.com/7mhto9mOpen ControlsThere is something so creepy about your posts...
Open Controls
Foster Federici
Jenkinson Demel Mertesacker Clyne Davies
Hazard Bale Sterling Michu Kacaniklic
Tevez Van Persie Aguero
1FT, any suggestions?
was thinking hazard --> santi
will get bego in next weekOpen ControlsWhat's the general consensus on here regarding Mata? Still playing deep but being more effective? I can't imagine Oscar or Hazard playing further back so I'd imagine the line up would normally be...for example:
Mikel
Lampard Mata
Hazard Torres Oscar
Wrong?
I guess the three AM could rotate...Mata is clearly way more experienced and better than Oscar right now so maybe he will take his place usually in that front 3?Open ControlsIf you're a member, just check out the average position maps.
Open ControlsYeah, I think Oscar usually starts in the front 3 AMs, but then drops to Lampard's position jus to cover him when he loads the box. Mata and Hazard are more on the wings, with Hazard on the left and Mata on the right, though Mata gets more central than Hazard.
Open ControlsYeah noticed Oscar has been doing his fair share of defensive work...which is a good reason to think he's not a great prospect right now. I'm so tempted to go for Mata soon...I think he offers such consistent returns.
Open Controls
For his price, Mata is a good pick. He doesn't play much deeper than Hazard, if at all.
Open ControlsOscar, if he continues to play where he is would be fairly tempting as well. Stats show real potential here and not too far behind the more expensive Mata and Hazard.
Saying that, i'll be seeking the safe(r) embrace of the bearded spanish wizard Mata.Open ControlsI wish the other Attacking mids would just leave Mata alone...he is clearly the best so just let him have the ball...it frustrates me
Plus it would make my decision to buy him so much easier.Open Controls
Never play deep mid-fielders___you know the rules so why ask!
Open Controls
My captaincy choice is nailed on for once!
I'm going to Anfield for the Reading game, so Suarez (c) for the excitement.
I haven't been for about 3 years but was there about 30 times overall when I was young, free and single (mostly early to mid 90's).
Still in one of the Irish LFC supporters clubs, so able to do it for cheap too. Yay.Open Controls0-1 Reading (Gorkss)
😀Open ControlsThat's pretty nice! And if Suarez scores, you're gonna be screaming your lungs out. 😉
Open ControlsAnd when the buck toothed rodent is sent off for diving , you gonna be crying your little heart out
Open Controls
It's quiet enough, so ill ask now before the hordes arrive next week.
I got
Foster,
Baines, Cuellar, Zabaleta
Nolan, Cazorla (VC), Bale, Michu
Ba, Suarez(C), Podolski
Begovic, Fellaini, Figueroa, Gunter
Current plan is Fellaini to Maloney with my free transfer. Then Michu to Mata after next GW.
Sound good?
Only other question, would it be excessively ballsy to go Nolan (C) and Suarez (VC). His home form is very good, SOU defense is awful. I see points. And best of all, no INT duty for him. So fresh as a daisy.Open ControlsLike the idea of captaining Nolan. He will get attacking points imo. Are you sure about Mata though, with those tricky fixtures coming up?
Open Controls100% sure?
No, but I do feel at his current price or 9.0m he is a bargain that will repay long term. He was always good at home, and now is doing good on the road as well. I see him getting a Silva esque like season, 180ish points this year.
So id like to hop on board nice and early, before the masses really catch on. Plus I think attacking wise, the fixtures are "middling". He should be a consistent source of points.Open Controls9 looks good for a player of his quality, I can't agree more with that. But 180-ish points is too much to ask I think. There's a lot of good mids that we have, and the points will be shared, but it won't be surprising if he gets the highest points at the end of the season, in that midfield.
Open ControlsTrue, I fancy him to get a bit more then the rest due to his set pieces. Well i'll suppose his points tally of last year would not be bad at his current price, and ill be happy in the knowledge he has room for improvement.
I am willing to consider other options mind you.
I got Cazorla a few weeks ago, so I don't really mind being early to some parties if the quality and price is right.
Plus he did not look out of place against Arsenal, at the emirates 🙂Open ControlsYeah, I saw that game, he's good at set pieces too, and there's no Drogba around too this season, so he's pretty much nailed to take them, and corners as well, we do score through corners too. It's just a matter of time that we'll know, I'm looking forward to how he plays against Tot.
Open ControlsCareful now, you might fall for the bearded wizard soon as well if your not careful! 😉
Thanks for the input lad, mucho thanksOpen Controls
- Open Controls
My argument against Nolan would be...
All of last season I don't think he score more than one goal in a game. He's not what you'd call 'explosive' although I will admit he did score a hat-trick back in the day (against Sunderland) But that was a derby and an exception to the rule. I think Suarez is a more bankable option as he's going to have probably more chances than Nolan to score and he has the potential for a massive score.Open ControlsWhy not, if you're feeling ballsy. I think I'm getting Nolan in too (for Fellaini) but am putting the (c) on Suarez. Reading are just so poor at the back.
Good team, btw.Open ControlsReading will start fighting soon---Nolan is class___pele rings to mind never getting out of my team ever!
Open Controls
Just out of interest, does anyone have the spanish trio, Silva, Caz & Mata? I'm on Caz, Mata & Bale atm...
Open ControlsThat's what I'm working towards...Only have Caz though 🙁
Open ControlsI did have Mata originally though so all I need is Silva to say I have OWNED the spanish trio at one point...it is my dream to own all three at the same time.
Open ControlsNever pick players that have Bull Fighting as A ...etc...
I aint got ! Spanish player in my team and I'm on the top page(49)--in the sky game.Open Controls
My defence will be ruined if I get those 3. I feel as if I can only have 2 of Silva, Bale, Caz, Mata, Hazard atm. I am heading for Cazorla and Bale after GW.
Open ControlsEven I'm thinking of getting the trio in, despite Mata's fixtures, but it'd need a lot of work for me, Tevez might face the axe. I'm on Caz Bale Michu and Pienaar.
Open ControlsKeeping Michu? I will have this mid after GW8.
Open ControlsCan't see that happening, Michu's on 4 YCs, and I really don't like the fixtures and the fact that Swans have registered just 2 goals in their last 4. Might jump on Morisson, Barfa would have been a no-brainer if I had the funds.
Open ControlsI have Ba so HBA not for me. I am thinking of keeping him. Not many in his price range that play where he does. I am just planning on getting someone for Guthrie who can cover his tough games .
Open ControlsLooked at some options and I ended up with this:
Michu and Morrison would give you
GW9: new/mci
GW10: SOT
GW11: sot
GW12: new
GW13: LIV/sun
GW14: WBA/sun
While Michu and Taarabt will give you
GW9: mic/ars
GW10: RDG
GW11: SOT
GW12: SOT
GW13: LIV/utd
GW14: WBA/swa
Looks good iwht Taarabt.Open ControlsI had a look too. Getting Kebe or McAnuff for Guthrie can cover Swansea fixtures against mci, CHE, LIV with FUL, qpr, wig. Only problem is GW15 when Swans are at Arsenal and Reading are home to Utd.
May do that. Cheers for options thoughOpen ControlsThis makes me want to keep Michu as well, I was going to dump Noble out anyway, Kebe sounds decent with Michu for a straight swap with Noble. But do you really think that's the way to go?
Open ControlsI am looking to do Hazard + Guthrie --->Bale and Someone for GW9. But at the start of this week I was dumping Michu now that changed so may change again, but for now I am heading that way.
I just dont think someone like Walters, Morrison etc offer as much value as Michu. Nolan perhaps but his fixtures are poop.Open Controls
All but Silva.
Someone out there probably has Bale, Silva, Caz and Mata along with a cheap 5th mid.
The swine.Open ControlsI've already seen a RMT with that midfield. 😀
Open Controls
What should I play, hungry hippos or twister?
Open ControlsTwo minutes ago: (to myself) Why don't I ever log in to FFS at this time of night?
*logs in*
Ah, that's why.Open ControlsNeither. Anyway this is a serious forum about fantasy football NOT children's games from days gone by. For the record I preferred connect 4.
Open ControlsHungry hippos. Unless there are fit girls in the room, then Twister.
Open ControlsI liked mouse trap cause you get to see a load of plastic rubbish gain momentum like the Berb Hysteria
Open Controls
One day, i'll get the scorers right as well 😉
http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2012/10/06/the-stock-check-gameweek-7-saturday-part-two/comment-page-12/#comment-4070180Open ControlsIf you'd done (RVP, Rooney x2)
You would have got the assists right...which would have been freaky!Open ControlsI keep doing that! I got the Swansea Reading game spot on as well:
http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2012/10/01/champions-league-focus-matchday-two/comment-page-4/#comment-4033250
McAnuff assisted and Michu got 1 goal.Open Controls
You've got to marvel at the fact that Giroud and Cazorla had 14 shots between them last game...FOURTEEN. If Giroud stays in the side I just can't see Podolski being a good option anymore. Which is annoying because I went Giroud over Pod to start...Oh captain hindsight...save me!
Open ControlsIf Giroud keeps up his numbers like the last game, he will be in all of our teams faster then you can say "Is RVP overpriced?"
Open ControlsFor sure, and if he repeats his returns from last year in Ligue 1 he'd be a must have.
24 Goals, 9 assists last year.
Averaged 4 shots a game...so his positioning is excellent and he will always get chances.Open Controls
So that means Pod is Capt next G/W
Open ControlsWhilst the figures are impressive, we need to keep in mind it was only v West Ham.
Open ControlsTrue, but a striker that dominates opposing sides even if they are lowly teams is something worth taking note of. These are the type of games you will buy a striker for and might captain a striker in.
Open Controls
Who to bench...
Sterling - Mata - Silva - Bale - Tony
Berba - Giroud - Ba
..................................Open ControlsMy first thought, but..... Reading at home! :S
Open ControlsAgreed, Sterling for me!
Open Controls
Two players high on my radar are the two players I had from GW1 and got totally burned by: Mata and Giroud...If I hadn't had them I'd probably be planning to get them in but this feeling of regret is making me think again.
Open ControlsI wouldn't bother with Mata right now, fixtures are tough. Giroud, I don't fancy him....might be a decent differencal but think there are better options out there that are better value IMO
Open Controls
slightly off topic....but with regards to the original Star wars trilogy, can you get them on blu ray.....without the bullsh!t lucas has added to it?
Open Controlshttp://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/190785/history/
So 1 FT 0.9 in the bank, already done Hazard -> Cazorla
Thinking just do Fletcher > Berbatov
Then next week do Federici > Begovic?
CheersOpen ControlsThe Berbatov Band/Wagon rolls on. Just coming back from injury ___his brother maybe getting a jail sentence for cocaine offense. Mind may be a little off the ball for a while.
Fulham goal drought....Berbatov not happy etc etc etcOpen ControlsIt'll keep rolling until after the internationals I am afraid.....I've been tempted but I may resist and stick with Fletcher.
Open Controls
Gibbs or Rafael?
Open ControlsGibbs for now. Rafael after GW10 has a juicy run
Open Controls
Man what am I still up for....I've got a presentation to do tomorrow, I am outta here!
Open ControlsWhy am I so excited over this team???!
Hart
Baines rafael Gibbs invanovich - demel clyne
Bale silva cazorla mata - kaca
Jelavic berbatov - randomOpen ControlsSpiked like the economy- riding the crest, with nowhere to go but down.
Open Controls
Hi Anurag, don't really want to post it up on here, to be honest! What for? A league entry?
Open ControlsYeah, Anuragkhetan30@gmail.com
Mind dropping me yours in my mail? Much thanks. 🙂Open ControlsWill do.
Open Controls
Current team:
Begovic Jass
Rafael Cuellar Jenk Ridgewell Demel
Haz Caz Peanut Dyer Kac
RVP Tevez Jelly
+1.5m
I need to sort out my defence.
I was thinking Jelly -> Crouch or Berbs after next week
Then Ridgewell-> Baines or Ivan + a Dyer upgrade?
What do peeps think???Open ControlsBerbs Gotta be Berbs --I mean everyones doing him
Just gotta be Berbs_________HooorayyyyyOpen Controls
Right last post before i go to sleep,
Pick 2 out of:
A) Aguero
B) Tevez
C) RVP
D) Jelavic
E) PodolskiOpen ControlsWho do you think will have a bigger gameweek?
Fletch or Berbs?Open ControlsMorning fella. Fletch assuming he doesnt get injured for Scotland IMO. I'm not 100% Berbs will play.
Open ControlsThis is exactly what's running through my head as I consider whether to do Fletcher > Berb
My problem is I'd just be switching one striker at home to another at home. Granted Berbs has the more favourable fixture but I'm not sure that's good enough to persuade me to do it. They both easily could score one goal and match each other. I'm thinking Berbatov is a more long term asset though as he's on penalties and he's the flair pick (More likely to get you a big score)
Are you on a WC?Open ControlsNoticed you're not...liking the Santon pick by the way!
Open ControlsKeep fletcher, my reasoning is this:
1- If Sunderland score then it will be Fletch doing the scoring - everything comes through him, Berbs is influential for Fulham but IMO not in the same way.
2 - Sunderland are generally better away form home than Fulham, given the above he has better likelyhood of scoring in away fixtures.
3- Berbs will take a couple of weeks to regain match firness after a few weeks off.
However I have to say that Berbs is more likely to get you those 'massive' gameweeks where he scores 2, sets up 1 and gets 3 bouns points......Open Controls+1 on your last point...and in general...well said.
Fletcher has scored 3 away goals already...that's more than he has scored at home! That's mightily impressive in itself...Open Controls
Yeah, I think he could do great, it's just I'm not sure if I want to use my transfer on a forward when I have injured defenders :/
Open ControlsOnly saw your original question without looking at your team. With the injuries you have you definitely need to address one of them. You definitely don't want to bring in a player who might not start. All it would take is one player dropped to the bench and you're down to ten.
Open ControlsYeah definitely, I was just curious on this topic rather than in terms of changing my team lol. Hopefully Gibbs will be okay, I might just switch him to Rafael if he won't. I know I've already missed a rise though...
Open ControlsI think Rafael's a better bet than Gibbs anyway. Utd defense should improve, he's quite attacking and looks to be nailed on this year. I'm trying to figure a way to shoe-horn him into my team.
Open Controls
Anybody else completely bored of the international break already? or is it just me.....
Open ControlsI think you can tell from how dead it is in here most people are bored out of their brains. Me included.
Open ControlsYeah I really should be working......
Open Controls
It's pretty bad. So bad, I'm watching playoff baseball. The Walking Dead Comic is keeping me entertained though 😀
Open ControlsBiden is kicking the living daylight out of Ryan....much more interesting than the Pres (first) debate. Baseball??????????????????????????????/
Open Controls
Martin alright mate?
Has Cazorla gone up .1 then? What do we think about Fellainis comments today, and how his potential absence will affect Evertons play and first 11/formation?
You really high on Giroud then? Dont fancy him much. Gervinho up front is far more exciting (although forehead misses god knows how many chances), and a cheaper alternative to Caz, AND plays OOP.Open ControlsI think Baines, Pienaar, and Jelavic will still bring it. Fellaini won't be out long either. I don't think it's worth to spend a transfer on him just yet. I'm was planning on benching him and playing Pienaar and Sterling anyways.
Gervinho is very tempting, but misses so many chances. I think Cazorla will benefit with the return of Wilshere. Think Caz is THE man for Arsenal attack coverage.Open ControlsLike the convo somewhere above about 'El Trio', im trying to also get on that bus. I wont waste a transfer on upgrading Yaya to Silva, but couuld very well have Yaya, Caz, Mata here pretty soon...and already have Bale!!
Vertonghen is taking a huge chunk of funds up, next to Baines in my backline. I dont fancy spurs keeping too many clean sheets in the near future, or throughout the season to be fair, but Vert is such an attacking threat. When B.A.E returns and he slides back to cb I think he will have to go though. At left back he is too dangerous and valuable to take out though, so that dream midfield might have to wait til I can get 2.5m off him to a 4m backup/option.
Cazorla will be 10m before Xmas. 🙁Open ControlsIm playing the telegraph league too and Caz is cheap as, put it this way he is the cheapest player in my team.....it almost feels like im stealing 🙂
Open Controls
I was tempted by Gervinho then i rembered he was rubbish just in time. The next 2-3 weeks are critical for Giroud, if he can get on a run then he could be very intresting as Arsenal seem pretty creative.
Open ControlsAlright mate, Caz went up .1m the other night. I reckon Fellaini's injury is for real...won't be keeping him because I'll lose the value I gained on him and I already have Pienaar who's better value at the moment. I think it could have a big effect on their performances but in terms of attacking I don't see them lacking with Jelavic/Mirallas/Pienaar all on fire.
I see Giroud as someone worth considering if you want a differential but like you said Gervinho could play some games up front so it's a big risk. Gervinho's a big risk if Giroud continues scoring as he won't play up front anymore. He'd only be a good alternative to Caz if he was nailed on imo. Walcott might even take Gervinho's place if he continues coming off the bench and scoring.Open ControlsRVP gone and now the Arse has a selection dilemma??? 🙂
Right then, so time to get Caz in now? Wont play for Spain this break, unless im mistaken........Open Controls
Just read more comments (ive just settled after long day and its footy time/talk time).....
The Berba bus has broken down? He wont be fit? Wont be match fit? He's not worth picking up for Fulham at 7m before the bus picks up again and he goes up?
Im seriously SERIOUSLY contemplating a 5-10 week front line (after Stoke away at United) of Crouch...Berba and Fletch, and having that dream midfield trio/quad (with Sterling my 5th, already in).
Salivating.......Open ControlsDont worry RVP will bang in a hat trick, Kun will go on the rampage before you pull the trigger......
Open ControlsSo this doesnt appeal to you.......
Vorm/Begovic
Baines Vertonghen Demel/Hughes
Mata Bale Cazorla Yaya Pienaar
Fletcher BerbaOpen ControlsHaha, these things tend to derail any plans of budgeting.
I was looking at Crouch for his good run of fixtures too but I did see against Liverpool he had Zero shots. It was a hard away fixture though...He's tempting at his price and he's done really well so far...and is a bonus points magnet when he does do well.Open Controls
This is a crap question but nothing happening at work today so might as well ask away:
Jenkinson or Rangel to start this week? Swansea at home but they've not been great at the back recently.
Baines & Ivanovich will be the other two starters.Open ControlsProbably. The other option is Nelsen at home to Everton. Probably not going to do that.
Open ControlsIn a way I'd agree...although I think it's nasty decision to have to make. Swansea's defence looks rocky but Rangel offers possibly more goal threat than Jenks. Rangel also at home to weak-ish opposition looks promising. Wigan do look decent lately though with Kone. It's really a coin toss...if it wasn't for Ivanovic's goal threat he'd be worth benching away to Spurs normally...
Open ControlsOh I thought BdWhite was saying Rangel...that's what I was agreeing too...seems he thinks Jenks...ha!
Open Controls
It's interesting that the four top scoring strikers have all scored more goals away from home than at home this season so far...
Ba: 4
RVP: 4
Suarez 4
Fletcher 3Open ControlsI like the Ba stat 😀 I want goals galore this weekend!
Open ControlsFletcher (2 home goals in 2) Ba (4 away goals in 3)
It bodes well for them both!Open Controls
I think it happened for different reasons..
Ba - didn't play CF at home against Villa, plus latest home game was against Manu
RVP - dropped at home against Wigan wtih his manager's sight at UCL fixture, + had leaky Soton away
Suarez - went to playground Carrow Road
Fletcher - overperformed.. now he has nowhere to go but downOpen Controls
Im back.....actually...i only clicked the other tab and tinkered.....and.....drum roll......babababababddadadadada........
Vorm/Beg
Baines Vertonghen Hughes/Dem
Cazorla Pienaar HBA Bale
Aguero Fletcher Berbs.
