The first potential casualty of the international break has emerged, with Man City’s David Silva suffering an injury that forced him after just 13 minutes of Spain’s World Cup qualifier with France tonight.

Reports on the injury are, predictably, sketchy at this time with claims that Silva may have suffered a problem with his knee or hamstring. However, the Daily Mail’s Ian Ladyman has since tweeted that it’s Silva’s ankle that has taken the blow – an area which has haunted Silva: the player previously confessing that he has played with an ankle problem for several seasons.

City are now reporting the injury, suggesting a hamstring problem and stating that the player will be examined on his return to Manchester. At that point we should be clearer on the situation and whether Silva will be a doubt for the trip to West Brom on Saturday.

Roberto Mancini will be hugely concerned given that he has a host of players due to return for assessment prior to the weekend, including Sergio Aguero who will turn out for Argentina in Chile in the early hours of this morning. His worries will also include several of England’s lineup who look set to face Poland tomorrow evening after tonight’s postponement in Warsaw.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

They'd need to start playing better as a team first. Decent individuals but don't really gel yet. Their results haven't been that impressive either.

No European team has won a WC on South American soil. Brazil or Argentina if Messi plays like Zidane in 1998 or Ronaldo in 2002.

Think he's a better captain choice away from home or against better sides as Liverpool can't break down teams who park the bus.

I think you have a good point there, he does tend to look more dangerous away from home but surely Reading will "have a go" a little bit at Anfield.
Promoted teams don't fear going to our place anymore!

i think you can keep your front 8 and bring in hughes (ful) and s taylor (new)
Altho i think an arssenal defender would be a good shout. only thing is jenkinson on borrowed time, Sagna will get eased in. Mertasacker may get randomly dropped. Could wait on wengers press conference on Gibbs Injury - might make the arsenal alternatives more attractive

What's your point WR? Clint was the highest scoring midfielder in the game last year, scoring 17 EPL goals. He has now more or less secured the position in the hole at Spurs, which should yield similar returns, I'd reckon.

You don't mean to compare Clint's skill, real life and FF, with Z. Gera, do you? Because that's silly.

QPR/WIG rotation looks good from GW9. I'm thinking Maloney and Taarabt could be nice options with these fixtures

Don't you find it interesting though that when he plays QPR become a much more threatening side in attack. Having done so poorly with Taarabt out of the side Hughes may look to use him more regularly. Trying to stay ahead of the curb his recent performances has done no harm and I would be shocked not to see him starting in the next few fixtures. I would put him in the same category as Giroud at the moment and its quite clear that Giroud should be close to being considered a sure starter.

Yeah I hear you about Drenthe. Is Cisse really a threat to Taarabt though? Can't they both be accommodated in the side in a 442 with Taarabt on the left wing?

Regards Taarabt, he went to see Hughes a number of weeks ago, as regards not being played. He was told the reason was his level of attitude in terms of training and fitness. He accepted this, and has played since. Looks like his position is pretty secure right now.

Just noticed QPR and Southampton rotate perfectly up to GW21. When Ramirez is back and Taarabt looks nailed on (give it a couple of gameweeks) then this could be an ideal partnership.
