The first potential casualty of the international break has emerged, with Man City’s David Silva suffering an injury that forced him after just 13 minutes of Spain’s World Cup qualifier with France tonight.

Reports on the injury are, predictably, sketchy at this time with claims that Silva may have suffered a problem with his knee or hamstring. However, the Daily Mail’s Ian Ladyman has since tweeted that it’s Silva’s ankle that has taken the blow – an area which has haunted Silva: the player previously confessing that he has played with an ankle problem for several seasons.

City are now reporting the injury, suggesting a hamstring problem and stating that the player will be examined on his return to Manchester. At that point we should be clearer on the situation and whether Silva will be a doubt for the trip to West Brom on Saturday.

Roberto Mancini will be hugely concerned given that he has a host of players due to return for assessment prior to the weekend, including Sergio Aguero who will turn out for Argentina in Chile in the early hours of this morning. His worries will also include several of England’s lineup who look set to face Poland tomorrow evening after tonight’s postponement in Warsaw.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Question: Who do we think is the #1 penalty taker at Spurs? Bale? Ade? Dempsey?

      I hope maybe someone has a definitive answer but I feel it's probably still up in the air until we see who takes one while Demps and Bale are both on the pitch. Hopefully it happens in a Europa league match so we can benefit from the info!

      Bale took a PK for Wales, so I don't see why he wouldn't for Spurs.

          Ade did, yes. I presume if he is on the pitch, he may be #1. But I have a sneaky feeling it may be Dempsey over Bale.

    Morning Dead Zoners

    Well, this is hugely disappointing news. Silva "pulled up" apparently and The Man With The Moustache says it's a "muscle injury" - http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/preliminaries/news/newsid=1786828/

    It's a shame for Silva as he was just coming back into form. It's also a shame for my team as I only just bought him last game week and will now have to disrupt my transfer plans to swap him for Cazorla, instead of Michu next week. That's the way it goes, though. They aren't supposed to get injured but they do, unfortunately.

      A bit of a shame that. I'm just glad I haven't bought him yet. I was going to sell Michu for him next week. Time for a change in plans.

        It's disappointing but it's not the end of the world as Cazorla is a more than handy replacement. I like Silva though and really enjoy watching him play so I was quite looking forward to having him in the team for City's decent run of fixtures.

            Hmmm. I don't know about that yet Ryan. I had a dinky transfer plan worked out for the next 4 weeks ( which is about as far ahead as my brain will go ) which left me the option of getting either Tevez or Aguero in gw11, while having Silva until then. That's scuppered now so I'll just wait and see what happens, I think.

            Too hard to tell at this stage. A striker might be the safe bet if you think they won't be rotated too much

          imo, no FPL team should be without Cazorla now. Plus, Arsenal is playing on Sunday, hence enough rest for the playmaker. the questions now are:-

          1) Giroud.. in / not yet / never wth Santi?

          2) who to have for City's decent run of fixtures?

            In a few weeks I reckon Giroud may be the more essential Arsenal cover. I think either Aguero or Tevez would be the reliable options for City

              thanks for the reply. so ryan, is jelly > giroud is sensible this weekend or wait til GW9? like Arsenal, Everton has decent upcoming fixtures too.. another considerationis that everyone is feeding up Jelly at everton, while at Arsenal, everyone can score from anywhere..

              The strike force is a way to get into the team but there is so many question marks around due to Champ League involvement.

              Kun - Assured starts but what if he is rest for champ league?
              Tevez - Most likely used more in the league but still..
              Balotelli - Ticking time bomb
              Dzeko - Impact sub

              If i really had to pick one Tevez is the best out of the lot but rotation risk for a 9+ player is too much :\

    In light of the potential silva injury here is WC team 4.0

    Foster | Begovic
    Rafael | Baines | Wilson| Demel | Cuellar
    Carzola | Bale | Pienaar | Nolan | Sterling
    RVP | Berba | Lambert

    Any thought? I could do Berba > Ba and Cuellar > Davies too. Just not sold on fact Ba can do as well with Cisse hang around regardless of his dismal form now.

          cazorla, bale, mata, pienaar, sterling

            I'm tempted to downgrade RVP and use the cash elsewhere but i got a feeling he is going to explode sooner or later. Aguero is great but won't he be kept fresh for champ league as their group is insanely difficult.

            You think Mata will do the job base on fixtures?

              i'm more of a form over fixtures kind of guy. and chelsea are playing quite well and can get a result against almost any side. of course he probably won't explode in the coming gameweeks, but i'm keeping nonetheless. i was thinking about getting silva, but we all know what happened today.

                True that. Yes form over fixture but the argument behind RVP is that fixture is not an issue to him. He scores or assist when he wants regardless of opposition.

                I either a) keep him or b) bring him back for gw11 onwards

    Horrible news for Silva. Also this ruins my plans..

    Any suggestions?

    Migno - Jussi +2.0£
    McAuley - Gibbs - Baines - Davies - Demel
    Fellaini - Maloney - Michu - Cazorla - Sterling
    Ba - Suarez - Van Persie

    Was going to do McAuley+Fellaini -> Silva + Wilson for a 4pt hit just to get Silva to start. I could do Fellaini-> Nasri instead without taking a hit, but it feels risky given that he rotates with so many players. Do you think he will start? Other options?

      Feel it's your call. Wigan are a leaky team but Swansea aren't really flying high either.

      I would suggest keep for Wigan game and ship him out later. Not worth the hit.

      If you're taking the hit it means you're expected Berba to do minimum 4 points better than Graham.

      I'm still skeptical. Stoke have scored 6 goals this year. I know they've had bad fixtures but they were last in the EPL last season. Southampton have scored 12 this year, including games against both Manchesters, Arsenal and Everton. And Lambert has penalties. And is cheaper.

          I'm not sure, I'm getting in Walters for the really decent run of fixtures and I reckon Crouch will outscore him.

          Stoke been solid despite appalling opening fixtures. That said, Crouch is never as convincing as Lambert.

          I take the early hits. I was only planning to take a 4 point hit this week. But to many price changes forced my hand. So now i have the team i want wont be doing it for a long time barring injuries.

      so tempting. I usually like the fall back of set pieces for my captain though. Hmmm
      Did santi play vs france?

        Yeah, came on for Silva after 15 min or so.

        Remember the Soton game? 6-1 and one assist. Giroud is the better choice, imo.

    I'm really tempted with Tevez -> Giroud this week. Opens his account for Arsenal last week, and looked a real menace. Scored last night. And now has a great run of fixtures. I think he has the potential to challenge Santi (fpl wise) for our top scorer from here on in. Add to that the rotation I suspect Tevez will face now that Aguero, Ballo and Dzeko are all fit.... Thoughts on the below?

    GW8: Tevez -> Giroud
    GW9: Michu & Suarez -> either i) Cazorla & Ba/Berba (4 points), or ii) Walters & Aguero (4 points)

    Jaask, Fed
    Baines, Cuellar, Hughes, McCartney, Clyne
    Bale, Barfa, Michu, Pienaar, Guthrie
    RVP, Tevez, Suarez

      Tricky one. I completely agree about Giroud but having sold tevez a couple weeks ago I'm planning to get him back next week so I wouldn't be comfortable recommending selling him

          I'm still not sure with Faillani --> Nolan or Lambert --> Berbatov or both for 4p hit or save FT.

    @AnfieldKick
    Kelly and Flanagan (definite) along with Wisdom, Skrtel and Robinson (potential) out of Reading game.

    And Reina pulled a muscle while warming-up at HT.

    I have 2FT's, my initial plan involved Gerrard. Now that he is gone, I'm thinking of something like this

    a) Tevez->Berba, and Fell->Cazorla
    b) Gerrard->Cheap 4.5-5 mid (maybe even Walters), and Podolski->Aguero (4pt hit)

    The problem with this this it feels too much of a sideways move, especially as I think Tevez could outscore Aguero when it comes to the Premier League.

    So my other option is to just wait one week, and do Fellaini->Walters this week along with Gerrard->Caz next week. What do you guys think?

            No idea, tbh.

            Fellaini > Morrison/McAnuff/Kebe and save some cash for a rainy day, maybe?
