There’s nothing more satisfying for a Fantasy manager than anticipating a bandwagon before the masses make their move. While Demba Ba’s goals capture the headlines and Fantasy suitors, and Papiss Cisse looks shorn of the confidence that made him such a lethal acquisition in the latter part of last season, Hatem Ben Arfa has provided a steady source of points for his Fantasy owners thus far:

The Frenchman’s brilliant form towards the tail end of 2011/12 hinted at his potential. Having finally convinced Alan Pardew of his worth to the Newcastle first XI, Ben Arfa’s displays on the right of a 4-3-3 saw a surge in ownership, with expectations high going into the new campaign. While Pardew’s return to a 4-4-2 has clearly brought the best out of Ba, Ben Arfa’s contribution – particularly at home – cannot be overlooked.

So far, Ben Arfa has had a hand in three of the four goals Newcastle have scored in front of their own fans. More encouragingly, his returns have been produced over three of their four matches in front of the Toon Army – goals against Spurs and Villa was followed by a crucial assist in the 1-0 win over Norwich in Gameweek 5, highlighting his consistency, rather than one big performance followed by a few blanks. United may have nullified his threat last time round but so far Ben Arfa has produced 29 points over his four home games in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) – with seven bonus points also accrued, that equates to an average of over seven points per home clash.

Away from St James’ Park, he’s been a disappointment. Trips to Chelsea and Everton perhaps understandably failed to produce any returns but a Gameweek 6 visit to Reading was a real let down for Ben Arfa’s owners, with Ba’s Madejski brace taking the plaudits instead. To a degree, this has allowed Ben Arfa to stay out of the limelight – 21,000 FPL managers shipped him out before the United game, while nearly 14,000 have ditched the Frenchman’s services prior to this weekend’s Tyne-Wear derby at the Stadium of Light. What better way to banish his away day blues, however, than to get one over Sunderland this coming Sunday afternoon?

After the Black Cats showdown, Newcastle look primed for investment. The subsequent seven Gameweeks afford Pardew’s men the perfect opportunity to rack up the points and with four potentially prosperous home games (WBA, WHM, SWA, WIG) in addition to a trip to Southampton, Ben Arfa – currently priced at 7.9 in FPL and a mere 6.2 in the Sky Sports game –looks well positioned to be a major Fantasy asset over the next few fixtures as the Magpies look to put the United defeat behind them.

            As the main striker in a title chasing team surely you live for the games Nando has coming up, I said earlier, there were a lot of ridiculous scorelines between the big teams last year. 8-2. 6-1. 5-3. 3-3. And i think a 6 - 4 somewhere as well. I think the risk might be worthwhile.

    I have 2FT and would like to do Lambert to Berbs this week but need 0.7M.
    Which is the best option
    (a) Hazard to Mata
    (b) Hazard to Pienaar (would then have funds to upgrade Michu next GW)
    (c) HBA to Pienaar
    (d) check my link to see if i can downgrade else where.

    Cheers for the advice

    Evening gents. It looks like tonight's the night for me to kick Fellaini out. A classic case of hopping on a bandwagon too late...he got me 3 points from 2 games.

    Now I've been set on Nolan for 10 days now but am having last minute nerves and am considering Pienaar instead. I know Nolans fixtures are trickier in the long run but I can't help feeling that if I get Pienaar in, I'll be hopping on him too late also. I've compared them in the members and it pretty much tells me what evryone knows already ; Nolan = Goal Threat ; Pienaar = Assist King.

    ATM, I have ;

    Cazorla, Gervinho, Michu, Fellaini (Guthrie)
    RVP, Tevez, Suarez.

    GW8 Fellaini -> Nolan
    GW9 Michu -> Bale, Suarez -> Crouch (-4)
    GW10 and GW11 start sorting out my crap defence with roughly 1.5m to spend.

    Thanks for taking the time to read my ramblings 😉

    Nolan or Pienaar ??????????

    Team at the moment for GW8 (1.6m BANK, 1 free transfer):

    Foster(MCI)
    Rafael(STK) Baines(qpr) Demel(SOU)
    Bale(CHE) Sterling(RDG) Michu(WIG) Fellaini(qpr)
    Suarez(RDG) Tevez(wba) Van Persie(STK)

    subs - Begovic, Jenkinson, Cuellar, Maloney

    Thoughts? I think it's decent enough to go with this week and i could save a transfer. There are some players i wouldn't mind having though such as Cazorla, Berbatov, Nolan and maybe even Carroll. Would probably have to sell Fellaini and/or Tevez to work any of those guys in. What ya reckon?

        Yeah Michu is the easy sell next week with Citeh and Chelsea on the horizon. Still not convinced on HBA myself but i could work Cazorla in much easier next week with 2 frees

      Very similar to mine SD. Except yours is much better!
      I think you can hold off on a transfer. If Fellaini doesn't make it you have nice cover on the bench (unlike me)

        Not think Fellaini > Nolan may still be worth a free transfer? Southampton and Wigan is a nice little double

      I'd stick on the transfer. I'm playing Bego over Foster as I think both will concede and get save points but Bego offers insurance against a RVP peno miss.

      Teves is nose diving in value and about to run into rotation bother...personally i think Jelavic or even Mirallas are better value...or maybe not...but only Mancini knows the answer to that...Not looking good for Sherwood by the way...Spurs have blocked any approach...

          He'd be bonkers to do it....although i'd love it....The only way they will get the fans back onside is if they get either Shearer/Sherwood or even Tugay....Of those thre there is only Tugay who possibly would and i can't see them even considering it...

      You should see ESPN. I forget about it all the time :'( but the prices make me chuckle. I could probably finish in the top 10 if I was serious about it.

    Fellaini to Kebe done to beat the price drop.

    Obviously not a like for like, but have Ramirez there to get rid of too and not convinced on taking the point hit this week (took a point hit to do A Johnson/Michu to Bale/Ramirez the week before).

    Lambert to berba & Suarez to ba

    Or

    Suarez to berba and Michu to bale. Both after this game week.

    Which one would you choose?

        I probably will then. So hold tight now? I'm interested in Suarez for a punt, Ba (long term), Berbatov. I can see Dempsey and Giroud as differentials.
