There’s nothing more satisfying for a Fantasy manager than anticipating a bandwagon before the masses make their move. While Demba Ba’s goals capture the headlines and Fantasy suitors, and Papiss Cisse looks shorn of the confidence that made him such a lethal acquisition in the latter part of last season, Hatem Ben Arfa has provided a steady source of points for his Fantasy owners thus far:

The Frenchman’s brilliant form towards the tail end of 2011/12 hinted at his potential. Having finally convinced Alan Pardew of his worth to the Newcastle first XI, Ben Arfa’s displays on the right of a 4-3-3 saw a surge in ownership, with expectations high going into the new campaign. While Pardew’s return to a 4-4-2 has clearly brought the best out of Ba, Ben Arfa’s contribution – particularly at home – cannot be overlooked.

So far, Ben Arfa has had a hand in three of the four goals Newcastle have scored in front of their own fans. More encouragingly, his returns have been produced over three of their four matches in front of the Toon Army – goals against Spurs and Villa was followed by a crucial assist in the 1-0 win over Norwich in Gameweek 5, highlighting his consistency, rather than one big performance followed by a few blanks. United may have nullified his threat last time round but so far Ben Arfa has produced 29 points over his four home games in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) – with seven bonus points also accrued, that equates to an average of over seven points per home clash.

Away from St James’ Park, he’s been a disappointment. Trips to Chelsea and Everton perhaps understandably failed to produce any returns but a Gameweek 6 visit to Reading was a real let down for Ben Arfa’s owners, with Ba’s Madejski brace taking the plaudits instead. To a degree, this has allowed Ben Arfa to stay out of the limelight – 21,000 FPL managers shipped him out before the United game, while nearly 14,000 have ditched the Frenchman’s services prior to this weekend’s Tyne-Wear derby at the Stadium of Light. What better way to banish his away day blues, however, than to get one over Sunderland this coming Sunday afternoon?

After the Black Cats showdown, Newcastle look primed for investment. The subsequent seven Gameweeks afford Pardew’s men the perfect opportunity to rack up the points and with four potentially prosperous home games (WBA, WHM, SWA, WIG) in addition to a trip to Southampton, Ben Arfa – currently priced at 7.9 in FPL and a mere 6.2 in the Sky Sports game –looks well positioned to be a major Fantasy asset over the next few fixtures as the Magpies look to put the United defeat behind them.

Still a flag on FPL even though it might not be on FISO, Fiso has a history of not sorting out flagged players.

FISO have been pretty spot on from what I've seen. Fellaini isn't red flagged so he shoulda dropped. Maybe a counting glitch by them.

Entertaining the thought of HBA and Ba (with saylor still in my squad but not starting yet).

Is HBA and Ba too much? I'd love my dream front line of Berba Aguero and Ba but again....that would mean having them both. It would be comfortable to know that if Newcastle score a goal one if not both of those men will/would have some part to play in it.

    Anyone have both? Thoughts please.

I do not think so....my plan it to have both when i WC in the next week or so. The only thing i worry about is that with my luck, Cisse will start scoring an hog of Ba's goal like last year. Of course, i was stuck with Ba and did not to waste a FT on a sideways transfer.

China Mag, You call your bench strong sans RVP but if it's Wilson and Sterling then I can match that...as I have Sterling and am considering Wilson. I don't understand your obsession with your strong bench...it's no better than most teams. You presumably will just waste the extra money you could use to get Aguero/RVP on KOLAROV the 0 points machine.

When you say Kolarov had an average 6ppg last season...that's last season...and City kept many CS...so far they've had one. You need to not only bank on City being formidable you have to hope Kolarov plays...with the extra money why not then get Kompany? Or why not get a more nailed on defender that will score some goals like Kolarov except start most games.

Are you expecting a 10 goal season out of Kolarov? You've already missed his big haul...sounds like chasing points to me...

I'm expecting city's defence to tighten up. My stategy will fall down in Kolarov doesn't keep up his ppg of the last two seasons. But i see no reason why he won't.

I already have Baines. Gibbs and Rafael (with Wilson and Kolarov - tomorrow). I don't feel the need for a kompany.

To me its a strategy which might work if you keep him for a long time (much of the season) However I very much doubt you will be able and willing to do that.

      1. Highly doubtful Sagna will start. Wenger has no need to rush him back.

      2. Sagna will (in my view) have to force his way back into the starting 11. Corporal Jenkinson has improved immeasurably over the last several months.

Yes, but to Sagna's standard? Jenks is like a bow legged orphaned deer in comparison to the Great Bacary.

In my humble opinion Sagna will limp straight back in to the starting 11. When able.

4.30am (Irish). Fixing other peoples messes and doing lots of wonderfully exciting Academic work. Taking a breather, so here is my flair team for the weekend.

    Foster

    Baines, Cuellar, Zabaleta

    Nolan(C), Michu, Cazorla, Bale, Pienaar

    Suarez (VC), Podolski

    Begovic, Ba, Figueroa, Gunter

Too flair, or just enough cajones? Might switch that armband back to Suarez, just worried after he played in high altitude this week.

Time for Tea and Toast, looks like an all nighter here.

You've just to ask yourself who's got more chance of being explosive in the match? Suarez with ease imo. We both know what Stokes defence is like.

Not bad, although I'd probably do:

Verm, Huth, Riise, Mata & Giroud -> Baines, Wilson, Hughes, Nolan & RVP (does that work price wise?)

i know i'm not a fortune teller, but do you really see your team doing an "Invincible" this season? with troubles surrouding JT, A.Cole unrest, and i personally think the team is back to some sort of transition with a lot of new faces this season..

Really tough call. Suarez the more likely to end up with a 2 pointer, but equally probably more likely to score massive. I'm on RVP at the mo, on the basis MUN are a better team, he is a better player and he's on at least some set pieces (not sure whether him or Roon are on pens?)

Nice Ivanovic captain last week! 😯

I quite like Lambert > Rooney. Not convinced by Lambert plus Rooney has great fixtures from Gw 11 onwards. Should get decent hauls even from midfield.

            Whereabouts in India?

              Nitin : Mumbai mate.

So lambert to Rooney from 11th week or this week against Stroke for a 4 pt hit or

Crouch fixtures looks good so may be lambert to Crouch next week.

Do you think Kolarov is a must or I keep Ivan through his tough fixtures.

May be ship Demel/ Clark for Wilson for Stroke defence

Also need to ship Davis for Begovic as my 2nd keeper Jas has tough fixtures from 11 on wards.

How do i go about from next week till week 12. Let me know your opinion.

I wouldn't go near Kolarov. Forget him, nothing but misery.

Get Begovic, Crouch, Wilson, Rooney in that order by Gw 11.

Thanks, Jins. Hoping for a decent haul this week as most of my team have decent fixtures on paper. Hope you have a good one yourself.

Thinking of taking Tevez and Michu out for Bale and Berba. what do u guys suggest? rest of the mid attack is:
Hazard, Santi , Nolan , Kaca , Michu*
    RVP , Fletcher, Tevez*

I wouldn't advise the Michu swap, although perhaps the former, but Tevez could easily produce the goods, but you never know with Mr. Mancini and his rotation fetish.

Michu has some tough fixtures coming up and yeah can't stand the city rotation. I'll play em both this week though.

Silly to lose Michu this week. I considered him for captain, though it's on RVP.

I dunno. Santi in I suppose for Haz. Felli prob has to go as well...Pienaar best longterm replacement I know, with a price hike over the next day or two as well. But Nolan is tempting maybe for 2 weeks?

I really don't now. I've lost interest to be honest. Every player I touch it seems, turns into shit.

              😀 You'll turn that corner soon ...

Haz to Caz sounds good. Nolan does sound tempting, but Pienaar has favorable right till Gw 14 or so. Tough choice.
I remember your Noble or Jarvis question when you were WCing. Could've been so different! 😆
