A fine Norwich performance has Arsenal slip to defeat at Carrow Road to deliver a hugely frustrating end to Saturday’s Gameweek 8 action. Here’s part two of today’s Stock Check…

On the Up

The Norwich Defence
Budget back fours continue to attract interest as expensive options fail to produce shut-outs and are forced to fall back on attacking returns. Chris Hughton’s side had showed promise following their opening day drubbing and demonstrated this again tonight with a gritty display. Their fixtures could be worse and the likes of John Ruddy may now earn some attention.

Grant Holt
A third consecutive goal for last season’s leading scorer at Carrow Road. Holt, at last, looks to have cemented his start in Hughton’s lineup and could yet offer some value as a budget striker option this term.

Going Down

The Arsenal Defence
Having started the season so strongly, with three consecutive clean sheets, the Gunners’ backline has failed to keep a shut-out since Gameweek 3. Over 50% of the Fantasy Premier League player base owns an Arsenal defender, with Carl Jenkinson the most popular option, but confidence in Wenger’s rearguard is diminishing by the week.

Vito Mannone
Any claims that Mannone had to the Arsenal number one jersey surely suffered irreparable damage this evening with a shaky performance and the error for the Norwich goal. Wojciech Szczesny may well be several weeks from fitness but he will surely be restored to the lineup once fit.

Santi Cazorla
The Spaniard failed to spark the Gunners this time, falling victim to bitterly disappointing performance from Wenger’s side which showed little in terms of goal threat. The recent clamour for Cazorla will see plenty frustrated this evening but the Gunners do at least have three home games in four to come in which the playmaker will be backed for profit.

Gervinho
Deployed on the flank once again, Gervinho epitomised Arsenal’s showing with ineffective display. His owners will now hope for a shift back to a central attacking role for Arsenal’s forthcoming fixtures but at least the injury suffered to Alex Oxlade Chamberlain could strengthen the Ivorian’s chances of retaining his starting role.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Ok one last post about this

    HBA > Mata

I'm afraid I may not be able to resist...the value of Mata combined with his unbelievable form is too strong. I know HBA has good fixtures but I don't have as much faith as I would with Mata. Mata at 8.9 is a bargain if he keeps up any semblance of form for the next 10. HBA at 7.6 (What I bought him for) is decent value but I don't think I'll lose too much sleep getting rid...he's served me well either way.

Thoughts before I pull the trigger?

I've done it along with Bale for Hazard and Bego for Foster for a 4pt hit didn't want to take a hit especially for a keeper, and the fact Chelsea have ManU but hopefully will be profitable in next few weeks

Yup it's insane. Everything seems to support his place in our FPL teams.

He's got shots, creating lots of chances, good finishing this season apart from his form & value.

Nope but it's not really about what Mata gets next week...it's about the points he will get over the next 10 games in my team...Add in his low price/the value it gets you/the unbelievable form and you've got a winning formula. Plus I think a way into Chelsea's attack is vital. Hazard is too expensive to have a balanced team around him...Mata however...you can balance things out.

Because he is about to rise .3m

If I waited he'd be less of a bargain. The way I see it...I'm bringing him in for a home game to start...Man Utd are hardly great defensively...I'm just refusing to see Chelsea's tough fixtures anymore either. They aren't tough when you have these amazing players in your team to get goals!

Also, the fixtures limit the upside. They might not stop Chelsea scoring, but all things being equal, if you play a bunch of tough teams you will score less points than playing a bunch of easy teams. Look at the ticker again, it's not so attractive.

Isacki, I think it's safe to say Chelsea's goalscoring isn't hindered by fixtures. When we're on song, it's goals galore. Also, big games generally tend to be high scoring.

If you talk about our defenders, I'd totally agree. It's not worth bringing in Ivano despite his beastliness in early season.

Yeah defenders aren't worth bringing in for the next few. Chelsea do explode and are looking good, I just think it's altogether possible you will get tight big games too. Until last year I thought they were the norm.

If he scores 2 points there is no regret for me...I feel I'm making the right decision because there's more to lose not getting him. Ok HBA might go on a blistering run...but then Ba will score well as a result (who I have) I just needed coverage of Chelsea's attack which looks rather potent at times.

In fact Mata has been the instigator, it's his form that has brought Chelsea to life. They look terrifyingly good at times. And that is all down to Mata imo. He is world class...a class above!

Mata has been played more advanced since his little break and is basically back to doing what he did last year but with more attacking personnel around him. He's a great prospect - though I'm not going to get carried away and elevate him above the likes of Silva and Cazorla - and I may need to get him in sooner or later, the only question is how soon.

Yep, depressingly one-dimensional especially in the United game. He's really busting a gut, I love his attitude and his ability is unquestioned. I really think Pardew has to be more ambitious than just bombarding the box like he was against United. Toon have technically gifted players in Cabaye, Barfa, Ba, Cisse, they should pass too.

Alreet lads. I'm glad I watched the liverpool game last night. Otherwise I would have thought that people were exagerrating how bad suarez was. I was considering keeping him, but not any more. Was going to do fletcher to jelavic/ba this week. Should I make both switches (suarez has eve and fletcher sto), for a 4pt hit. Or save one of them for the week after?

I'm in same position, i'm sticking for the short term due to other commitments. I think Suarez is in the middle of everything at Liverpool, so could easily nick a goal against Everton. Sunderland create nothing, so id make that the priority

Everton's next 3 fixtures are a bit indifferent, don't see a huge number of goals, ie. I would hold Everton but not buy now. I'd transfer Fletcher to Ba first.

Podolski to Giroud, no brainer right?

    Rest of team is

    Foster, Begovic

    Baines, Cuellar, Zabaleta, Figueroa, Gunter

    Michu, Nolan, Pienaar, Bale, Cazorla

    Ba, Suarez, Podolski

Pod to Giroud this week barring any injury crisis popping up, ill downgrade Michu next week and bring in Aguero for GW 11 for Suarez.

    Sensible?

Fixtures till GW22 are pretty nice for an Arsenal CF. He should be a solid started now that Ox and Theo are injured.

He has not looked that bad, though admittedly should have more goals. I think he needs allot of chances, but he will get them for the next while.

Mind you, that theory did not work out today.

Defoe for his next two might be a sneaky punt, but I had him at the start, would feel like going back to an ex.

    Two thoughts:

Dzeko: With 3 out of 4 Games at home coming up...he's surely in line for more game time and he's playing his way into the side over Balotelli. At 7.5 is he not a short term bargain considering his knack for scoring whenever he wants?

Lukaku: He looked awesome in the MOTD highlights, granted he should have scored one of his many chances. But in a brief cameo he had several brilliant chances and looks a handful. If only he could be guaranteed starts I think he'd soon become a goalscoring machine.

Lukaku was unlucky, it really wasn't his day today. Seems to be used more as an impact sub though. Long's playing well too, so I doubt he'll be dropped.

Martin. You say that Mata is fixture proof. This is a term over used on here in my opinion. Yes, he can score points against any team. But would if you had the choice of choosing him for a a) run of good fixtures, or b) run of bad fixtures, what would you go for?

I would prefer bale & santi, who have FORM + FIXTURES.

I can totally see where Martin's coming from. Albeit it's a small sample, from the 3 toughest games this season (NEW ars tot), we've scored 8 goals. That definitely has to count for something.

At this point, I'd be pissing in my pants if I didn't own Mata or Haz. Not being biased, mind you 🙂

Bale has no form, he's scored 2 points and then had a baby 😀

Santi had a plum fixture today and scored 2 points...Mata scored 15 away to Spurs!!

You've got to take into account that Mata is one of the most creative mids out there. He is literally a magician with or without the ball. I believe this will lead to consistent returns no matter the opponent.

Mata is more of an out and out attacking midfielder compared to Bale who is a glorified winger who loves to shoot from anywhere. Mata has got the ability to create chances from literally nowhere and is the creative heart of the Chelsea team right now.

I'm blabbering a bit but I don't think it needs much justification to get in a player of Mata's quality at 8.9m...he is going to be far more consistent than Bale imo.

Nah, other mids are Bale, Cazorla, Pienaar and Kaca.

I just fear that Michu has only scored against weak opposition (qpr, WHU, SUN, RDG, WIG) and has tough fixtures for his next 10 games.

I watched Chelsea game last night and saw Mata involved very much in their attacking. He created and also finished. I think it's good timing to bring him in... Question is how?

Bale (sot, WIG) - Cazorla (QPR, mun) - Hazard - Pienaar (LIV, ful) - Sterling
    RvP - Ba - Berbatov

What do you think about these ways?

A: Hazard -> Mata before the rise.
B: Wait to see Everton .... Pienaar -> Mata , RvP -> Aguero?

I agree, but it's just if you get rid of Hazard...there won't be any way back...it's something to think about. I think you should give him a chance to equal Mata's scores and then do the transfer if you need the cash later? Just a suggestion
