[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

The eagle-eyed amongst you may have noticed that our Suspension Tightrope widget has made a return to your sidebars. This handy little tool lists those players on the cusp of a one-match ban as a result of receiving five domestic bookings before the curfew date of December 31…

Right now we have eight candidates performing a balancing act, with three standout names amongst them.

Marouane Fellaini has been a hugely popular Fantasy acquisition this term and, while he could possibly be in line for a return from injury against Liverpool this weekend, he is just one yellow card from a suspension, having earned three Premier League bookings and a Capital One Cup caution. A comeback in a stormy Merseyside derby may just be enough to topple the Belgian and see him miss Everton’s trip to Fulham.

Swansea’s Michu is another mid-price midfielder who has gathered many Fantasy suitors and, with a new role up front in Michael Laudrup’s lineup, looks set to continue on the ascent. With four bookings (including a Capital One yellow) a potential one-match ban could derail matters, however. His owners will be hoping the Spaniard can pick up that caution at City this weekend; this would mean he misses the Capital One Cup tie with Liverpool on October 29, to be available for the home league clash with Chelsea. That would be, errr…rather convenient.

Fellow Swan, Angel Rangel is also one match from a ban and could also do with picking that booking up this weekend so that he can also make the Chelsea game. With tough fixtures to come, his absence will perhaps be less of a factor for Fantasy managers and we’re set to see continued sales in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) regardless of a ban. With that in mind and a price drop from 5.1 in FPL likely at some point in the coming weeks, it might be a good time to plan the escape route.

In terms of existing bans, we know that Steven Pienaar is certainly ruled out of Sunday’s Merseyside derby, with Everton unable to appeal his red for two bookable offences. City will be without James Milner for the visit of Swansea with a one-match ban dished out for his red for denying a goalscoring opportunity at the Hawthorns. John Terry has two league matches of his four-match ban to serve, while Newcastle’s Cheick Tiote is the latest player to earn a three-match ban for dangerous foul play – he’ll miss league matches with West Brom, Liverpool and West Ham.

Lee Cattermole served out his three-match ban against Newcastle and will be available to Martin O’Neill for the trip to Stoke this weekend.

As always, these bans can be found in our Injuries and Bans table. We’ll be updating the tightrope widget every week from this point on, and bringing you our regular article summing up the new arrivals and the suspensions being served.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Hey guys..
Need a bit of advice on what to do...

I'm thinking of going Johnson, Hazard and Michu ---> Sagna, Mata and Bale
Got 2 FT. Do you think this is worth it, in the long run? So a 4 point hit, I'm afraid...
Both Liverpool and Swansea has shit fixtures.

And yes. Hace to do this before the price rise on Mata today, sadly

Sagna hasn't played a game yet...wouldn't be exactly an instant points return would it?

IT would not be a instant return of points from him. But he has started training, an is in line for a comeback this week. And he has some great fixtures coming up. And it will give me the founds to do michu-->Bale

Depends really on the balance of your team. If I had Hazard I'd think twice about getting Mata so quickly as there is the luxury of a downgrade in the near future rather than upgrading like most non-Hazard owners have had to do to Mata.

Does anyone else feel like it's points chasing bringing in Mata at this stage? I've no doubt he'll do well over the season but it's hard to see him maintaining his recent points rate and could easily be Hazard or Oscar who run the show this week.

Surely, Chelsea are going to be scoring a hell lot this season, 9.1 still looks decent to get one of the main attacking threats in.

He will reach 9.1 tonight. Maximum of 9.2 by end of week when he risen 0.3.
The way things are going he could be in a position to rise to 9.3 before he even plays against Utd

And if he gets anything in Sunday's game, everyone who was resisting him will lose their strength and get him on board. I'm looking to get him in and I can't find a way to have a Caz, Bale and Mata triplet.

Chelsea are going to be scoring a fair few goals despite the tough games coming. Of course either trio could steal the show. But for a lot of people now are leaning to Mata as he is cheaper and now he is playing in positions where he can get returns equivalent to Hazard for cheaper. At the start of season he played deeper I think (I have not looked into heat maps to prove this...).

I am selling Hazard for Bale and planning another transfer so I can do Michu-->Mata after CHE v MUN

No he cant maintain this scoring rate. Attacking points are going to be shared between Mata, Hazard, Torres, Oscar like with RVP and Rooney for example. I will use the extra cash from Mata to improve one of my three 4M defenders.

Sure they will hit a rough point, can get rid later. For now in their form I want to keep a Chelsea attacking option.

guys just spent the last 2 hours looking at some defensive stats from the season so far, drew up 4 tables/lists. firstly goals conceded + saves made for every team to show which sides are conceding the least shots on target and hopefully an indicator of defensive strength.
secondly a list of the number of goals conceded divided by the number of saves made, this will be a bit more relevant for keepers seeing as saves get points too.
thirdly and fourthly are the above two lists/tables but just for home matches.

Defence is weak. Sagna not guaranteed starter yet. Gorkks and Nelsen are cheap but won't get you many points. Obviously I understand you've done that to save money for mid and strikers.

Would personally get rid of Tevez for someone cheaper and upgrade a defender for Newcastle defence. Might as well play Sagna he can always drop to the bench coz its a rare a RB is subbed on.

I have faith in tevez, and hes been very consistent in getting points. He can also explode at any time.

Sagna is the best RB when on form in the league im sure he will have a place in Wenger's lineup. Hes already had 2 run outs with the U21s. Could have went Kosceilny but CB is a minefield atm for Arsenal.

Yes nelsen and gorks are cheapies but they wont play unless its nelsen at home which is a decent bet against worse teams.

RVP out for 2 weeks and then straight in, Defoe in for a week and then out, wasting quite a lot of transfers there. Injury/suspension to any of your major players and you're all messed.

I have a keeper of Jussi and Federici.
And my 5th midfield is Britton. Have pienaar supended.

    Britton to Sterling

    Hi All,

2 FTs this week. Intent on getting Ba into the side. Had planned the following: Lambert & Michu > Ba & Walters, but fall 0.9 short

    Begovic Schwarzer
    Ivanovic Santon Ridgewell Cuellar Nelsen
    Bale Cazorla Pienaar Michu Marveaux
    Lambert RVP Tevez

I currently have Foster and Bego in goal. Wouldn't mind selling Foster for Mcarthy to save 1.1m. It would enable me to upgrade Gallas to Sagna once he returns. Then our teams would be practically identical. I will see how things pan out.

Now tell me, did you take all you're hits gradually over the season or did you make this team all at once now?

Anyone considering a Stoke defensive double-up, assuming the majority have Begovic as one of their rotating keepers?

Who would you currently consider out of the Stoke defence? Wilson appears to be the most value for money, at the moment. But are Huth and Shawcross worth consideration, given their attacking threat and bonus points?

He is as nailed on as it gets. He was classified as a midfielder last year so wasn't on the fantasy radar.

I am doubling up on the Stoke defense as opposed to having a Walters, Kightly, or Crouch.

Just pressed the Hazard to Mata button, case of fingers crossed. Given it a lot of thought, if it doesn't work out easy to reverse, if it does happy days. Leaves me with 2.2 in the bank which is more than useful.

Did the same a coupke of days ago , not an easy decision as had Hazard from the start and would be costly to buy back.
Am hoping the rises of Mata and a couple of drops from Hazard will make it worthwhile

Actually pressed the button at 3.20 the other morning when he was 8'9, his price rose right after I pressed the button, it wouldn't complete the transfer. Sods. Still I don't dwell on such things, just move on.Got Hazard at 9.8, sold for 10, so easy to reverse. Would be far happier if Mata keeps going, would be one of the seasons bargains.

    Morning all

Anyone tempted by a cheeky little two-week fling with Defoe? Southampton are a complete shambles in defence and Wigan have conceded seven goals in their last three away games. I don't usually do this kind of thing, in fact I've never done it, but I'm really tempted. Suarez & Lambert > Ba & Defoe (C) looks very appealing....

I actually think Ade will start the next game. AVB needs to keep him happy or there will be trouble in the Spurs camp.

I think there's trouble in the Spurs' camp already Ryan, to be honest. AVB needs to keep the players happy but he also needs a couple of good wins after that poor performance against Chelsea. Having Bale back will be a boost ( no idea about Dembele's prognosis ) although he'll surely start with Defoe. I like Ade as much as the next man but he's far from match fit and couldn't trap a bag of wet cement.

Be great to have em both, however also have Ivan, enough Chelsea for me. Perfect scenario would be Mata doing the biz again, and zooming up in price.

Having made my transfers early this week I do wonder how the CL games will cause a wee surprise with players injured or what now. We tend to dwell on the negative and worry if one of our players will be injured but I'd like to look at it from a positive angle. So I will put this question to you all.

What could occur during the CL games that will aid you're FPL team?

ie Rooney getting injured may aid those with RVP

I want to reply but I'm not gonna wish anyone to get injured.. 😐

Just RvP to need some rest on weekend would be good as he has 31% ownership.
