The eagle-eyed amongst you may have noticed that our Suspension Tightrope widget has made a return to your sidebars. This handy little tool lists those players on the cusp of a one-match ban as a result of receiving five domestic bookings before the curfew date of December 31…

Right now we have eight candidates performing a balancing act, with three standout names amongst them.

Marouane Fellaini has been a hugely popular Fantasy acquisition this term and, while he could possibly be in line for a return from injury against Liverpool this weekend, he is just one yellow card from a suspension, having earned three Premier League bookings and a Capital One Cup caution. A comeback in a stormy Merseyside derby may just be enough to topple the Belgian and see him miss Everton’s trip to Fulham.

Swansea’s Michu is another mid-price midfielder who has gathered many Fantasy suitors and, with a new role up front in Michael Laudrup’s lineup, looks set to continue on the ascent. With four bookings (including a Capital One yellow) a potential one-match ban could derail matters, however. His owners will be hoping the Spaniard can pick up that caution at City this weekend; this would mean he misses the Capital One Cup tie with Liverpool on October 29, to be available for the home league clash with Chelsea. That would be, errr…rather convenient.

Fellow Swan, Angel Rangel is also one match from a ban and could also do with picking that booking up this weekend so that he can also make the Chelsea game. With tough fixtures to come, his absence will perhaps be less of a factor for Fantasy managers and we’re set to see continued sales in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) regardless of a ban. With that in mind and a price drop from 5.1 in FPL likely at some point in the coming weeks, it might be a good time to plan the escape route.

In terms of existing bans, we know that Steven Pienaar is certainly ruled out of Sunday’s Merseyside derby, with Everton unable to appeal his red for two bookable offences. City will be without James Milner for the visit of Swansea with a one-match ban dished out for his red for denying a goalscoring opportunity at the Hawthorns. John Terry has two league matches of his four-match ban to serve, while Newcastle’s Cheick Tiote is the latest player to earn a three-match ban for dangerous foul play – he’ll miss league matches with West Brom, Liverpool and West Ham.

Lee Cattermole served out his three-match ban against Newcastle and will be available to Martin O’Neill for the trip to Stoke this weekend.

As always, these bans can be found in our Injuries and Bans table. We’ll be updating the tightrope widget every week from this point on, and bringing you our regular article summing up the new arrivals and the suspensions being served.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Arsenal's embarrassing attack against Norwich may be a continuation of our struggles against teams with deep defences who camp in the box. We also failed to score against Stoke and Sunderland.

It's definitely the case. I don't understand why Wenger didn't alter the tactics to suit. It seems so obvious they need to mix it up a bit. I also don't understand why Podolski should be always out on the left wing...they need to score goals for christ sake!

poldolski isn't really a clinical striker who can play the central role up front. He will always look to work the wider areas and try to feed those within the box.

Unfortunately there is usually 1 or 2 max in the box for arsenal which doesn't help things.

He is a clinical striker though. If played in that position. He's played in a wider role because he is told to. But he is an excellent finisher.

He's only playing out wide because Arsene says it "Balances the team out".

Basically he can defend, and Gervinho can't.

The deeper defence allowed a restricted zone of influence for Cazorla for a lot of the match. Agreed they still had chances but it was a smart bit of play from the Norwich lads, you could see the difference when they started to get sloppy at the end and the shots started to come in very heavily. The team were poor too though.

You're right, they did keep him quiet. When the CAM struggles arsenal do struggle. Remember Ramsey at CAM last year? Since he was cack he - and us - struggled every game,

True enough, it was just a blip I reckon. Any team heavily dependant on a very good CAM for all their creativity is susceptible to that, what I reckon happens is that as the season goes on the CAM gets much better at getting around this and his support improves. Wouldn't be very worried about this right now, as a United fan I can honestly I really like the partnership of Arteta and Cazorla. As that relationship improves I see a real Xavi and Iniesta partnership developing.

They're brilliant, Arteta is the deep lying playmaker and Cazorla advanced. Which is why Diaby is so important to provide the verticality and tackling which he's best at out of them. Ramsey is, at least for now, so inferior and comes across very lightweight.

I do think the squad feels talented but lightweight. I was disappointed with the lack of bravery.

I've always felt this about Arsenal squads really. A lot of talent but something missing. I think you've defensively improved a lot compared to last season. The middle has some very technically gifted players but I think you miss Song. I think that up front would be a greater concern for me right now. Podolski is certainly good and Giroud has potential to develop however I feel that if you guys nabbed a very well established striker, a real blood hound, with support from that midfield you guys could be awesomely good.

We've been playing deep defences routinely for at least 3 seasons though. We've broken lots down since then too. I think it was more a combination of complacency (sadly familiar), Norwich playing for their livelihoods with their arses hanging out on the line after an abysmal start, Norwich having 2 weeks prep for it while AFC fielded about 8 internationals.

May have got worse this season at breaking them down though. Last year we had the genius of RVP to create and finish. And we have built a reputation of struggling to grind out wins over the small stubborn teams. Distinct memories of losing 1-0 to sunderland almost 10 years ago in much the same way.

I think if you played this game 10 times Arsenal will dominate and win comfortably 8 times out of ten. Q.P.R will need an exception performance to keep them out for 90 mins and I think since Cazorla is the focal point of the team he is an excellent captaincy choice.

I will get him back later, until then I am wholly confident players cheaper or in his bracket will outscore him.

Sure he is still their main threat, I get that. But I am playing fixtures over form on this one. It could obviously blow up a lot. But he has to go in order for me to get 3 big hitters in my mid which I direction I am taking.

Also unrealted, I would respect your opinion on who to buy - Holt or Long? (Please try not to vomit 🙂 )

Oh I can respect that completely! Haha not a problem! It is certainly a tough one.
Fixture wise both have a mixed bag, good and bad alternating most weeks. Both Holt and Long have been providing returning consistent returns the past few weeks as well. So it comes down to attacking threat. On paper, West Brom have managed to nab twice as many goals as Norwich so far this season. That would immediately suggest Long. However, Norwich have made a bit of a change. Haughton has been playing a 4-4-2 which has been stifling the attack, against Arsenal he swapped Hoolahan into a more attacking "in the hole" position which he prefers a lot more. That has made a massive difference as seen against Arsenal. So will it continue is the question here. It was successful so I can't see why not. It's very tough to call, I'd reckon if they stick to the new formation then Holt as he's guaranteed time while Long may have some competition with Odem and Lukaku. If they revert to 4-4-2 then it's Long all the way!

But at same time bollocks, I hadn't see the Arsenal game live this weekend. I was convinced to get Holt before this formation thingy you saying. Had other commitment on saturday night, only just saw MOTD today and yeah did notice Hoolahan advanced. WBA have had more favourable games so far. Where as Norwich have played Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea and Lpool so far so WBA scoring more is to be expected.

So basically I was one of the eejits that done Hazard > Bale and missed out on 8 points (maloney 1st sub) so to make up for those 8points im guna take a left field punt. Bring in Snoddy,Walters, Morrison havent really decided yet but t would be a move I wouldnt have done if i didnt get burned. Might even captain Baines!

I am eager to know from any experts of newcastle or anyone who has information is simpson now going to nail his place down as he did last season.

I know he missed a few gw's and ferguson filled in but simpson had a hamstring injury but he is back and played 90 v sunderland and looked good. Therefore his place is secure right?

just have baines.. but do you think its a good idea to downgrade rvp to aguero for agueros SWA and whu. and then bring in the pig for aguero for their good run. this downgrade also allows me to have mata ( he doesnt have great fixtures but has great form and his fixtures in the short term atleast are better than michus and pienaars blank)

A lot may say that ditching RVP is a bad move. With Merit too. I got rid a few GW's back, just the way I went. It's really a tough call, but 1 no 1 can make for u. I think Kun & Mata are worth RVP & Michu/Pie. IMO.

    Team for the week:

    Begovic
    Wilson Baines Rafael
    Michu Cazorla Kackaniklic Ben Arfa
    RVP Giroud Tevez

    Jussi Clyne Gunter Pienaar

Hoping 7 home players will help a pretty bruised looking team this week.

No FTs. Should I be looking at spending -4pts on fixing Kacka > to a certain starter? Problem is I don't really like anyone else in that bracket just yet. I think I'll stick, and Clyne (*sobs*) can come in if Kacka remains on the bench.

RVP scores when he wants is the difference. I'd rather not delve into a long discussion as I'm tired. But I just think it does matter that Rooney is playing deeper long term. RVP is not as versatile and therefore will always be played centre forward. Rooney is a good buy...I don't doubt that.

Rooney has played less games...the stats are based on two particularly good games for Rooney...just saying. They are both world class...it's the fact RVP is the preferred striker target man that makes me wary of getting in Rooney for value too soon. Rooney can do all sorts of things but RVP's job is goals and lately he's added consistent assists. Can't doubt RVP is getting better and better and adapting and it should continue.

Rooney is used to playing in the side so it's second nature. RVP for someone new is learning quickly and it will only get better for him imo.

Precisely the point made by Mark & Granville on the podcast. You can get an extra 1.7m or so, but so what? I'd rather have the security of point production of RvP over having a midfielder that's 1.7m more 'valuable'

Maybe just captain the first two letters of each of their names? Then you can be rest assured of nothing. This comment is not a good one. Nor does it make sense to anybody.

Is Fellaini a realistic starter this week? Normally it would be sideways to do Pienaar to Fellaini but the suspension means it makes sense this week if Fellaini does play.

I don't think now is the right time to get Fellaini, he'll be serving a suspension soon.

Cheers, though in theory if he gets booked this week (totally happening) he'll only miss League Cup.

I am intrigued by this also, would be interesting to know and whether he would slot right back in his position behind jelavic or revert to more deeper role

Normally II believe he plays deep when there are more attacking players available ahead of him. With Pienaar out that may not be the case.

        ...............Neville Osman....
        Coleman/Anichebe Fellaini Mirallas
        .........................Jelavic

        ?

The reason I'm looking at this is that it would preserve Everton coverage for their good fixtures. Also, Liverpool defence meh.

Do you also have Baines? If I had to get rid of one I would get rid of rafa because he's a rotation risk when their defenders are fit.
