[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

The eagle-eyed amongst you may have noticed that our Suspension Tightrope widget has made a return to your sidebars. This handy little tool lists those players on the cusp of a one-match ban as a result of receiving five domestic bookings before the curfew date of December 31…

Right now we have eight candidates performing a balancing act, with three standout names amongst them.

Marouane Fellaini has been a hugely popular Fantasy acquisition this term and, while he could possibly be in line for a return from injury against Liverpool this weekend, he is just one yellow card from a suspension, having earned three Premier League bookings and a Capital One Cup caution. A comeback in a stormy Merseyside derby may just be enough to topple the Belgian and see him miss Everton’s trip to Fulham.

Swansea’s Michu is another mid-price midfielder who has gathered many Fantasy suitors and, with a new role up front in Michael Laudrup’s lineup, looks set to continue on the ascent. With four bookings (including a Capital One yellow) a potential one-match ban could derail matters, however. His owners will be hoping the Spaniard can pick up that caution at City this weekend; this would mean he misses the Capital One Cup tie with Liverpool on October 29, to be available for the home league clash with Chelsea. That would be, errr…rather convenient.

Fellow Swan, Angel Rangel is also one match from a ban and could also do with picking that booking up this weekend so that he can also make the Chelsea game. With tough fixtures to come, his absence will perhaps be less of a factor for Fantasy managers and we’re set to see continued sales in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) regardless of a ban. With that in mind and a price drop from 5.1 in FPL likely at some point in the coming weeks, it might be a good time to plan the escape route.

In terms of existing bans, we know that Steven Pienaar is certainly ruled out of Sunday’s Merseyside derby, with Everton unable to appeal his red for two bookable offences. City will be without James Milner for the visit of Swansea with a one-match ban dished out for his red for denying a goalscoring opportunity at the Hawthorns. John Terry has two league matches of his four-match ban to serve, while Newcastle’s Cheick Tiote is the latest player to earn a three-match ban for dangerous foul play – he’ll miss league matches with West Brom, Liverpool and West Ham.

Lee Cattermole served out his three-match ban against Newcastle and will be available to Martin O’Neill for the trip to Stoke this weekend.

As always, these bans can be found in our Injuries and Bans table. We’ll be updating the tightrope widget every week from this point on, and bringing you our regular article summing up the new arrivals and the suspensions being served.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Current team with 1 FT & 2.6 in the bank:

    Begovic (McCarthy)

    Baines, McAuley, Riise (O’Brien, McCartney)

Michu, Santi Cazorla, Sahin, Mata (Sterling)

    Ba, Tevez, Berbatov

I’m locked on going Michu -> Bale

Is it worth doing McAuley -> Simpson/Wilson for the 4 point hit? Since they good fixtures coming up..

The only thing i’m not happy with is my defense atm.. Any suggestions??

Possibly McAuley & McCartney -> Simpson & Wilson.. worth using some future FT’s?

    Thoughts? Thanks!

WB defender to stoke makes good sense as does michu to bale

I would really be looking at getting rid of Sahin. You have Sterling already who will score more points than him. At 6.8 thats alot alot of cash wasted imo

I don't know much about Sahin, but I like the Bale move. He's captain choice of this week along with Ba. A hit to get DF is usually not recommended. Btw, Wilson looks best if you don't mind doubling Stoke in your defensive unit.

My defence needs a shake up

    Foster Federici
    Jenkinson Demel Mertesacker Clyne Davies

I want a stoke defender, was thinking of bringing in Wilson for someone, but who?
And play Foster in goal for a while.
will Sagna come in for Jenkinson this week? Will Demel play this week?

    Any thoughts are appreciated

Whats the thinking on captains this week - i have the choice of:

    RVP (che)
    Santi (QPR)
    Tevez (SWA)
    Bale (sot)
    Ba (WBA)
    Mata (mun)
    Michu (mci)

I've currently got Tevez (c) with Bale (v)......

Just worried about Tevez rotation? Thoughts....

I'm tempted by Bale, sad to say we are shocking defensively and bales just had a kid andhe'is bound to have a message on a tshirt that he'll want to show off to the crowd 🙂

Hi Eunuch.. The gap is still small.. I took the punt on Suarez captain as it will be the last week I have him... I have to agree RVP captain most weeks is the way to go as even if he doesn't produce for some reason you don't feel as bad.

My thinking exactly, but you feel like more of a chump because everyone tells you Suarez will frustrate and RVP is the obvious choice. I still think my three-week rental of Suarez was a sound move. I will feel a lot better if he doesn't explode in the derby!

Wouldnt get ben arfa. Hes being played at wide right of a 442. No going to be as effective as last season unless pardew changes it suddenly. Youll have to rely on newcastle playing Barca esque football or just individual brilliance of HBA to get consistent returns.

    Lescott/ A Cole/ Clyne/ Hangeland/ Cellular
    Carzola/ Ben Arfa/ Sterling/ Michu/ Guthrie
    RVP/ Fletcher/ Tevez

    To this

    BEGO/ Jaasc
    Lescott/ SANTON/ Clyne/ HUGHES/ Cellular
    Carzola/ Ben Arfa/ MATA/ Michu/ Guthrie

Have you got 100k in the bank spare if you were gonna get in Ba and Nasri?? Can get Sterling and Rooney if so which trumps these easily right now.

Was all set to back Michu to get shown a card in the next game after reading this article. After some research i'm not anymore. If he gets a card he misses the Carling Cup like he says. But it's away to Liverpool who will probably field a team Swansea can put up a fight against in a competition they will definitely be trying to win. So if anything I say he will be trying hard not to get a yellow.

Morning deadzone! Interested to hear what any of you guys would do with this squad over the next few weeks:

    Jaask, Federici
    Baines, Hughes, Cuellar, McCartney, Clyne
    Bale, Mata, Santi, Michu, Guthrie
    RVP, Ba, Berbatov
Bank 0.0m, 0 freebies and 1 hit already taken this week...

What you would do with this squad or how great your squad is? It can't be the first as like you say you've already made transfers and have a full squad to choose from.

I'd save the wildcard and perhaps consider something like Cole/Lescott & Michu -> Wilson & Bale for a hit. I expect big things from a rested Bale this w/e.

    Howard McCarthy

Thinking of having at least 1 stoke defensive cover. Howard > Bego?

"Ivanovic is a good, but not a great attacking full back and while the production has been exciting so far, there's really nothing to backup the 0.5m he'll cost you over Ashley Cole. Indeed, Cole actually has more total shots and more chances created to date."

This is from a 2-weeks old chris glover article. every time ive watched a chelsea game ive seen ivanovic in the box and as a counterattack spearhead. im suprised that cole actually might have better stats. would any of you choose cole ahead of ivanovic?

Nope. I started with Cole and changed to Ivan as soon as I wathced the first two Chelsea games this year. As you said, Ivan is very often in the box almost as an forward. I consider he has a free license to attack, especially against weaker teams, and keeping him for the rest of the season.

    Bale, Santi, Michu, Guthrie (Pienaar)
    Rvp, Tevez, Berbatov

You think Guthrie will play next game too?

I might end up doing a boring transfer and just get Begovic in.
Then next week Santi => Mata if that feels good then.
    Any other ideas?

Anyone else going with no MCY cover this week? SWA, whu, TOT, AVL in the next 4 has me very concerned, but is there any route in with this team (either this week for a hit or next week)? Currently looking at Hughes -> Wilson next week, or even saving it. Neither are particularly inspiring, and neither sort out my MCY issue!!!

Yaya Toure, if Mancini sticks to playing him as CAM. Depends on Garcia's fitness. If fit, Garcia and Barry will play deep.

The rest of FFS will disagree, mind you.

I watch some highlights of Citeh/WBA last night.

Prior to the milner sending off Yaya spend quite a bit of time trying to get on the end of Nasri & Co's crosses.

I know, and he has looked like scoring as well. I get surprised when people say he is DM, because i am confident, they are not watching the football!

I think Yaya is both. Not a Mikel of this world, but equally not a Mata/Hazard/Michu etc. If he was around the 7m mark I'd probably have him, but for an extra million you can get Silva who plays way further forward.

Mancini has tried using him as CAM. His starting position before the the red card was behind Carlos Tevez.

Given the form/quality on offer this w/e, I'd like to see him go in his front 6 this w/e:

                ------------Dzeko
                Tevez---Aguero---Nasri
                -------Garcia---Yaya

            I'm thinking Michu-->Yaya for SWANS/west/SPURS then to one pf young/valencia/nani/kags for nor/QPR/WEST/read.

ManU milfs have gone off the radar a bit recently. Ownership:
            valencia 2.4%
            nani 2.4%
            Young 1.1%

Thing is rotation issues, which are even stronger now with Fergie's new formation experiments. I'd stay away, and Yaya, i am not sure i would buy him if i did not have him. Don't get dragged into this.

Yeah, but there are serious points on the offering for United from gw 11.

There is just no way I can fit Rvp AND Rooney in.

I'm not convinced - especially when Silva gets back. He's a decent option, but I'd want an attacking mid for >8m, and Yaya is only that for small parts of games imo.

Aguero and Tevez are the only appealing MCY coverage for me right now, and with the form of Dzeko, the rotation is probably just a bit too much given their price.

I am not surprised you are not convinced. Yaya has 2 games for me either way. Kun is a good shout, he wont be on the bench 3 PL games in a row.

            +1

Kun is vital in Citeh winning the title. Balo red is around the corner. Dzeko is only effective against certain teams and often as a supersub.

Hmmm. How to get him in. RVP -> Aguero(c) for a hit? With a plan to get RVP back in GW11? Desperate times....

I'm tempted to do Rvp-->Kun(c) for free.

Then get Rooney back by gw 11 to go with Kun.

I think so. Yaya would be my pick where there are too much risk with Silva, Aguero, Tevez, and other choices.
