Versus – Juan Mata & Eden Hazard

25 October 2012 1033 comments
Mark Mark
Share:

Juan Mataā€™s rapid ascent up the Fantasy rankings have left few in doubt where their allegiance lies in the Chelsea midfield. Mataā€™s form has stripped Eden Hazard of his ā€œnear essentialā€ status after his explosive start to the campaign, with our sights swinging to the Spaniard and his more friendly Fantasy Premier League (FPL) price tag.

While Mataā€™s appeal is obvious, in this latest article for Members, we both acknowledge the rise of the Spanish playmaker, whilst identifying a trend that suggests that Hazard may yet emerge from his shadowā€¦

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

For anyone wanting an opinion chelsea fans opinion on the haz oscar mata conundrum: I’ve watched every minute of every game and:

Haz: Brilliant player but playing in unpreferred position on the left. He creates the space while dribbling before handing it off to oscar/ mata/ a.cole who either pass or shoot. Therefore, he definitely has assist potential but less so than the other two. Also, david luiz thinks he’s C.Ronaldo and is hogging right footed free-kicks (and scoring that screamer in the champions league just makes matters worse). Also, Haz is most likely to be substituted, and will not have penalty duties when frank is on the pitch (very likely for weaker sides).

Oscar: He’s the number 10 and seems to be taking up the most forward positions. He’s not subject to rotational risk (as many seem to think) and if anyone’s seen his performances for brazil and for chelsea in the champions league, he’s just waiting to explode in FPL. A real bargain waiting to happen.

Mata: Since being dropped from Spain, he has become the most rested of the front 3. He will essentially start and finish every game and has all left sided set pieces. His form is undeniable right now both in assist potential (with his understanding with torres, oscar and hazard) and he’s got a ton of goals. Mata dribbles less than hazard so is more likely to look for the killer pass whereas hazard is more likely to create space with his dribbling before handing it to the others.

Conclusion: Mata is better than Haz right now (especially considering price) and for those short on cash Oscar will provide a fine differential.

Cheers! basically the only reason I haven't bought Oscar is because I was worried about lack of playing time. One person saying he's not a rotation risk is good enough for me.

PS: I'm totally blaming you when my move inevitably crashes and burns.

and you can thank me when it pays off immensely! Hazard is more substitution prone as oscar provides greater defensive coverage in the midfield, as well as moses and marin are essentially wingers that need game time.

    ah new page

ok here’s a question. Since I’m getting Wilson in for Davies and not Kolarov do i sell

    a) Ramirez – injured but am going to want him back (and play Adam Johnson)

    b) Johnson – fit but shite,or at least in a team playing like shite (and leave Ramirez 3rd sub

    or

both for -8 (and if so who to get in mid for 7.5?)

what I take from this is that sometimes its better to leave what you feel is a good team alone to do its thing only transfer out the injured. All good players come good sooner rather then later

I can put out a decent enough defence this week (Baines (LIV), Boyce (WHU), Wilson, (SUN)) is it worth swapping Demel for Caulker and benching one of them?

Until Kaboul is back I don't see Caulker being ousted now and a 4.7 defender for Spurs with huge threat from set-pieces looks one of the better value players in the game.
