After a horrendous run of opening fixtures, Stoke’s prime Fantasy assets are finally being looked upon in a different light as the schedule starts to smile a little kinder. While many Fantasy managers will be somewhat reluctant to invest in an attack which has scored just eight goals in the opening eight Gameweeks (Wayne Rooney own goal inclusive), the Potters’ rearguard could be primed for transfers in after a series of resilient displays.

Prior to last Saturday’s defeat at United, Tony Pulis’ side had shipped a mere five goals in their first seven fixtures, conceding just once against City and Chelsea in addition to returning a clean sheet at home to Arsenal. We’ve sang the praises of Asmir Begovic for a number of weeks – the Bosnian holds firm at the top of our goalkeeper Watchlist rankings – while Marc Wilson was the subject of last Friday’s Moneyball piece; both look strong value at 4.7 and 4.5 respectively in Fantasy Premier League (FPL).

While Potters skipper Ryan Shawcross remains the most popular pick, with 18% FPL ownership, we’re focussing on an old Scout favourite – Robert Huth. Priced at 5.5 in both FPL and the Sky Sports game, there’s a reason why Huth is the costliest option amongst Pulis’ rearguard. The former Chelsea man’s eye for goal has seen him notch nine times in the previous couple of campaigns – the same number as Leighton Baines, for example, with his aerial ability in the opposition’s box always liable to strike terror into backlines the length and breadth of the country.

Granted, Huth has yet to justify any real investment, with no attacking returns or bonus registered thus far. As a result, he has picked up a mere 1.2% ownership, but his consistency over the last few seasons suggests he can always be relied upon; he has accrued 22 FPL bonus points over the previous two campaigns and has found the net at least three times from 2009/10 onwards.

The upcoming fixtures certainly offer plenty encouragement. Pulis’ side play at home four times (SUN, QPR, FUL, NEW) and also face trips to Norwich and West Ham, with perhaps only the Gameweek 12 trip to Upton Park a concern for those Fantasy managers eyeing up Stoke’s options. With the dead-ball delivery of Charlie Adam now added to the Potters’ ranks, it seems only a matter of time before Huth opens his account and begins to shine as a real differential.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Having 2 FTs this week is doing my head in! Think I prefer only having one!
    Current team:
    Howard (Rudd)
    Rafael, Clark, Davies, Clyne, Saylor
    Michu, Santi, Fellaini, Pienaar, Noble
    Suarez, RVP, Aguero

Any obvious transfers? Was thinking Fellaini/Pienaar > Walters and Clark > Shawcross.
Or should I be more bold and lose Suarez to upgrade?
    Thanks for any help.

Wouldn't take a chance tbh. If he doesn't play, it's all wasted, Suarez may still get something out of the game.

Have a bit of a dilemma.

Is it worth rotating a SWA REA WHU defender for the third spot in order to get in Bale for Puncheon? Other defenders are Baines and Rafael who I'll play every week

Or, I could get Mata instead, and get Wilson in stead of the SWA defender.

    Thoughts?

my belief is it isnt defenders who win you ML or even big leagues, it is midf and forwards, so do what you have to to get bale or mata in

Sturridge is too selfish, Torres even if he's not scoring does a job for the team...or at least he tries.

Do Stoke actually still get Huth in goalscoring positions anymore? He didn't score that many last season and hasn't this season yet. Just wondering if there is a tactical reason.

Agh God, so I nearly talk myself into Huth this morning, then I remember this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/9386882.stm and am convinced.

Then I go away over lunch, have a think about it and decide it's not the best option.

Then I come back and see a watchlist article about him. ARGH... HUUUTH

Don't really want to sell RVP or Owen (yes, Michael Owen, have a good feeling about him this week), but I have considered going with Tevez/Ba/Defoe. That just makes it hard to get RVP back in in the coming weeks without taking a hit.

Really feel no save w/o newcastle cover, coz everyone put ba as a captain or Arfa for a cover. I cant afford HBA so could go with Cabaye but he is not such a threat like Arfa.

I know my subs are great Gorks and Guthrie... and seems Guthrie is due to goal this weak... otherwise why invest so much on him lol

Yeah ... I mean, they really aren't very good defensively but there's something in the fact that Hazard turned Man Utd down, which would make me want to keep him.

for me it is the penalty duty for him, there could be some in that game. But with United nice and rested for this game. I think it could be close and low scoring

He shares votes with Tevez I suppose, and almost half the players have Tevez and more likely to vote for someone they own.

No, just the rumblings for Adebayor to play have been getting louder and Soton are a team they could afford to mix it up a bit.

    Santi / HBA / Michu / Nolan
    Berba / Podolski / Tevez

    Subs - Vorm / Demel / Clyne / Pienaar

While I despise the unapologetic attitude of some at the club for breaking Ramsey's leg, in general I actually have a soft spot for Stoke. I do respect their results with a limited budget and limited players. They are like the English game taken as far as it can go in the Premier League. There is something almost noble about the mission, to play their own game.

Their away support was amazing when I watched Wigan v Stoke. Their fans filled the away stand and kept chanting "We are Stoke, we are Stoke". Pride of their City.

Is it crazy to do Michu to Fellaini..? I'm thinking he may play (according to latest updates), I like him, has better fixtures than Michu and if he doesn't play then my back up is Sterling, which I am happy with. The price is also right for me, as fellaini has dropped whilst injured, so it's a straight swop...There again he may come off the bench for 10 mins!! AARGH!!!

risky as Fellaini is on 4 yellows too, both he and Michu look in all likelyhood to have a ban coming up for reaching 5

    RVP | Ba | Lambert
