Demba Ba’s Fantasy owners were handed plenty to worry about this morning after Alan Pardew admitted the striker faces a real fight to be fit for Sunday’s trip to Liverpool. Speaking this morning, the Newcastle boss went on to say:

“I think he’s 50-50 – at best. We’ve got Papiss back on the goal trail and Shola and Sammy so we’re happy with that. It is very important to have that. Papiss is fit and well and we are looking forward to seeing him this weekend.”

Owned by over 30% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers and 10% in the Sky Sports game, Ba has been in sensational form this season. While Newcastle have scored just 11 times so far, Ba’s input has been absolutely crucial – with seven goals and an assist already racked up, he is the fifth top scoring player in the FPL game and has been awarded more bonus points (14) than any other player.

While Pardew talked up Papiss Cisse, there’s no denying the forward’s goal against West Brom was more than fortunate – the former SC Freiburg man has struggled for form this term, with his strike against the Baggies his first of the season. Considering Hatem Ben Arfa has contributed no more than a single assist in the last six Gameweeks, it’s little wonder Ba’s popularity continues to rise – more than 20,000 FPL managers have already snapped up his services this week; they now face an anxious wait ahead of Pardew’s Friday press conference.

With Newcastle’s fixtures still looking enticing, the majority of Ba’s owners will likely be content to hold for now. After this weekend, the Magpies play host to West Ham, Swansea and Wigan in the following five and also have a trip to Southampton in Gameweek 13. Form and fixtures are undoubtedly in the 8.4 priced FPL forward’s favour – let’s just hope his fitness is, too.

    Just want to try something here. I know it's a tactic some of us - myself included - try and stick to on the whole, but for the purpose of this exercise, let's say it's a must: choose only one player from any team who has the brightest fantasy football prospects, and fit them into a starting 11. Money is no object.

    Mine's as follows, for maximum clean-sheet/goal-threat/set-piece/double-digit score potential:

    Foster
    Baines, Riise, Huth
    Cazorla, Mata, Bale, Michu
    Tevez, RvP, Suarez

        You seem to be the only one who 'got' this!

        Very similar to mine, I only went with Tevez above Aguero as he seems to play more BPL games while Aguero is priority for Champions League, and Suarez above Ba because he's the lone striker on all set pieces (but I guess you can say the same for Ba, so it's a tough call).

    Evening all

    Looking at upgrading my DEF or MIDS this week. The former will be a straight FT but the latter will cost a hit to finance.

    A. Gibbs > Baines

    B. Gibbs > Cameron and Pienaar/Adam > Bale/Mata

    Current team:

    Ruddy ( Al-Habsi)
    Hangeland, Gibbs, Cueller (Clark, Demel)
    Cazorla, Pienaar, Michu, Adam (Sterling)
    RVP, Tevez, Ba

    Any chance we will get the team line ups for the Man Utd v Ars (12:45 KO) before 11.30?

    It seems like the biggest sideways move ever but I am considering Cazorla to Walcott.

    I really fancy Walcott to well over the next month with Gervinho out and after his last performance. IMO he is very much a form player who tends to go on purple patches of big scores and that could eaily start this weekend.

      I think it's 50/50 Ramsey or Walcott to start at OT. So reckon that one can probably wait. Caz has delivered at the Etihad and Anfield so far - stick with big game Santi for one more game.

        Id love Ramsey to start at LB (Santos is dire, and Koscielny was poor last night and should probably be on the bench).

        I dont think Walcott will start - he played 120 minutes last night and gave it 100% throughout. I think he will start after this weekend given Gervinho's poor form, but this game might come too soon for anything other than a super sub role.

    Just took a four point hit to do Caz and Haz to Morrison and Mata. Anyone reckon another four point hit for RVP (C) for Berbatov would be worth it? I know I could wait a week and do it for free, but I think he'll have a great game against Arsenal.

        Yeah, I suppose I can wait a week. I thought for a while that having RVP would weaken my team too much overall, but I really don't think I need that money anywhere else. Things can always change, but I might as well do it with their great run of fixtures coming up.

      Schwarzer.
      Might go with Boyce for his attacking upside - I suspect QPR will put 2 past Reading.
      Jelavic - slight nod over Sterling. At ~8.5 or so, you've got to play him against midtable teams and below or find a cheaper forward..

I have both keepers and may well end up picking Bego, but wouldn't be that surprised if Norwich keep a clean sheet. It must be about 50:50

    Hmm.. if I wanted to get in Walcott I'd have to do Gervinho + Baines/Morisson --> Walcott + 6.0def/4.8mid.

    Short 0.1 to do Gervinho + Foster --> Walcott + Tremmel 🙁

    I want to get a united attacker in my team rooney/rvp as a replacement for aguero as he is lacking consistent game time, as mancini is utilising him in the ucl and rests him alot in the epl. Do you recommend I downgrade either Barfa or Gibbs to fund Aguero to RVP/Rooney?

      All you Walcott lovers, look at his game time through out the season. His returns are good but a little patience to see if he gets a run in the team is in order.

              It is a measure of fixture difficulty - both are positive which is good - but Reading's is slightly better.

              I'd say, relatively speaking, Liverpool have the easier fixture and Sterling's their 2nd most potent attacker at the minute... I wouldn't give that a momnet's thought - I'd have Sterling in.

    Not sure why I am fannying around so much about who to replace Wilson with

    Cuellar seems the best option if I have Bego, although I have no problem with doubling up on stoke.

          But its not random at all, After Cisses first goal Ba was just moved to the wing. So there is need to watch how Pardew plays them and make selections based on that.

    Best mid for under 6.3, going to have to play ever week?

    Current team:
    Begovic, (Foster)
    Hughes, Baines, Coloccini, (Demel), (Barnett)
    Bale, Peinaar, Hazard, Sterling, Cazorla
    Berbatov, Ba, Lambert

    1FT - 6.8mil in Bank
    NB: Need to bring in RVP asap

    Transfers wise, i'm thinking:
    GW10: Tevez -> Ba & 6.3mil mid -> Cazorla (-4points)
    GW11: RVP -> Berb , Rafael (Man U def) -> Demel (-4points)

    Does this seem acceptable?

        I dunno if i shouldn't just go with Nolan and only replace Wilson. Not easy to see past a goalfest at Swans with backup keeper playing.

        Would mean a 4pt hit and nearly 60pts behind in ML.

          Exactly, he has never been a goalscorer and has so far converted his shots with 2 times better accuracy than he normally does. That fact can also be backed up by the fact that many of his goals have been from outside of the box which usually have a much lower conversion rate.

          Hazard is still much better IMO and Oscar could be worth a look. I went to far with never own though as if it were a DGW id want both Haz and Mata with a defender. Unless Falcao is there by that time 🙂

              I could be totally wrong, I am a bad reader of form. I like to go against it often. Like this week I will probably get Rooney instead of RVP. I guess I will see in the end of the season weather that is a smart move.
