In a frantic Friday packed full of articles, we finally see out the day with our pre-weekend regular. As always, we roll out three overlooked alternatives ahead of tomorrow morning’s deadline for your perusal…

Antonio Valencia

Having racked up four goals and 14 assists over 2,124 minutes in the previous campaign, the United winger had proven to be a constant source of Fantasy points for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side. The Red Devils’ summer acquisition of Dortmund’s Shinji Kagawa and Robin Van Persie from Arsenal shifted the spotlight away from the former Wigan man, though, and with Wayne Rooney also in the mix, Valencia has been shifted to the periphery of our Fantasy thinking.

To an extent, it’s understandable. While the likes of Juan Mata, Eden Hazard, Gareth Bale and Santi Cazorla dominate the heavyweight attention with eye-catching displays aplenty, Valencia’s highest haul has been just five points. In a campaign already hampered by ankle and foot injuries, the winger has returned to form and fitness and is again hinting at the consistency which served his Fantasy owners so well last time round – Valencia has now provided an assist in each of his last four starts and could well be set to torment Arsenal’s stand-in left-back Andre Santos in tomorrow’s lunchtime kick-off.

Priced at 8.6 in FPL and 7.9 in the Sky Sports game, Valencia has an ownership of just 2.7% in the former game and with a strong run of fixtures to follow, looks an enticing differential route into a United side that have already racked up 24 goals, more than any side so far.

Theo Walcott

A hat-trick and a trio of assists in Arsenal’s extraordinary midweek Capital One Cup comeback win at Reading highlighted Walcott’s current form. Having failed to start a single league match since Gameweek 1, he’s been something of an outcast this term but with Gervinho sidelined due to an ankle injury, tomorrow’s encounter at Old Trafford looks likely to hand him a chance to return to the Gunners first XI.

Much has been made over his desire to nail down a central role but Walcott may have to settle for a berth on the right flank, with Aaron Ramsey the man likely to make way now that Jack Wilshere is back to partner Mikel Arteta in the centre. Given the comparative form of Olivier Giroud, though, Wenger may well be tempted to shift Walcott centrally if things aren’t going his side’s way tomorrow and with a home clash against Fulham to follow, he also offers the potential for points next week, too. Priced at 8.7 in FPL and 7.5 in the Sky Sports game, and with an ownership of just 1.2% in FPL, many will be hoping Walcott can return to the form that harvested 169 FPL points in the season gone by.

Wes Hoolahan

There’s no question the season started poorly for the Republic of Ireland international. Paul Lambert’s departure to Villa afforded Chris Hughton the chance to take the Carrow Road reins and with the new boss undecided over his best starting XI, Hoolahan cut a peripheral figure, with a mere 14 minutes game time over Norwich’s first four league fixtures.

Since Gameweek 5, though, the playmaker has started four of the last five and has played every minute from Gameweek 7 onwards. As confidence begins to grow, a 1-0 home win over Arsenal was followed by a draw at Lambert’s new club Villa, with Hoolahan a key figure in last weekend’s match –he provided the assist for Michael Turner’s equaliser and resultantly picking up two bonus points.

Tucked in behind Grant Holt in Hughton’s now-default 4-4-1-1, his creativity is clearly crucial to the Canaries chances as Hughton looks to build on the back of the midweek Capital One Cup win over Spurs. Up against a Stoke side that have managed a single clean sheet in their five away games, and with a trip to Reading to follow next weekend, Hoolahan – coming in at 5.5 in FPL and 6.8 in the Sky Sports game and with an ownership of 0.3% in both games, offers a real mid-price midfield punt ahead of tomorrow’s deadline.

Just used my free transfer to bring in Wilkinson for Wilson.
    What should my team/formation be?
Also, who's my best choice for captain? It's between Rooney and Defoe.

    Begovic - Foster
    Wilkinson - Baines - Riise - Cahill - Reid
    Lallana - Sterling - Nolan - Michu - Mata
    Long - Rooney - Defoe

To put it into perspective if Mata's injury is a little more serious than it seems he will miss at least 2 games. If it isn't that serious he will play in the CL game and still miss 2 games. I would consider selling Mata before you consider selling Caz

Well first I thought I could do without any hits since I only had Wilson who was definitely ruled out for this week. However, I knew in the back of my mind that Ba is doubtful, as was Demel. However, during the week I heard the terrible news that Cuellar was also not guaranteed of a start this week. Things got worse when news reached me that Mata had played 120 mins in the Capital One Cup game which mean he was "very doubtful" to play this week, in the words of his manager Roberto Di Matteo. This put me in a conundrum. I had potentially 5 players out this week meaning I may only have 9 players on the pitch! This prompted me to make the decision of transferring out both Wilson and Demel.

        ...so yeah -4

I'm not sure yet. I have Berbatov who should play, Ba that may play and Mata who probably won't play. If one or two of them don't play I will be fine as I have Rangel and Michu to come in for them. Not great but it will do. However, if all three fail to make an appearance then my third sub is Jenkinson who isn't going to play anyway. It might be wise to take a hit to cover off this possibility. However, its the start of the PP cup this week and I don't want to take a hit and jeopardise my chances of qualifying for that. On the other other hand, I want to try and get Tevez in and selling Jenkinson (who, as mentioned earlier isn't going to play anyway) may help to achieve that goal.

So, to sum up, I don't know. Maybe 0 maybe -4. What do you think?

Any advice appreciated. Made the premature Santi>mata transfer like many others and am in a bit of a mess now.

    Begs - fost
    DEMEL - WILSON - SAYLOR - baines - clyne
    MATA - pienaar - bale - Nolan - Maloney
    BA - rvp - tevez

    £0.4

By my count there are 2 players out, mata highly unlikely to play, saylor unlikely to start but kinda hopeful on ba. Clyne is a likely 0-1 pointer, Maloney probably 2 pointer.

Pretty set on Wilson to Cameron for -4 but if ba doesn't play I am still down to 10.
Thinking about dumping mata for Morrison -8(total). Leaving 3.5m in the bank to reassess midfield options next week e.g tony v, Walcott, even mata.

Cant see the wood through the trees

You were right when you said mess - never a good idea to ignore the bench, always need it sometime, just never know when thats going to be - the joys of this game eh!

I reckon its worth taking a hit to get Wilson out, maybe for Nelsen/Caulker or whoever.
As long as that person gets you even 2 points then the transfer only costs 2 points.
I have a feeling Saylor could make his return this week and Pardew said Ba had a good chance to make it so you might be ok.
Havent a clue on Mata but it wouldnt surprise me if he's rested for CL and Moses plays instead.

So I brought in Cuellar earlier this week, have a fit Cole and Figueroa, then Demel and Gunter.

    A) risk only having 2 defenders play
    B) take a hit and move one of Demel or Gunter out?

Hit would pretty much need a CS or fluky goal to compensate for the -4.

    Thoughts?

it would save you a transfer further down the line though, so could be worth it even if new player dosent keep a cleanie

Only 11 and a bit hours to go till I can find out what my ML leader did with his 2 FTs. Since he has Forehead and Demel I'm guessing he's got rid of them, but he had very little cash floating around, so I suspect he may have got in a Gorkks/Nelsen/Cameron and possibly Barfa

    Very tempted by Dzeko.

My feeling is, he'll either start tomorrow and against Spurs or neither. Depends who Mancini wants to play midweek. You'd think Aguero and Tevez as it's a pretty crucial game. Either Giroud --> Dzeko or Nasri --> Valencia.

Wouldn't say 'bad'. It's risky, but it's not exactly a long term thing. Gotta take risks, had a poor start. Will probably just get Valencia mind.
