The midweek Capital One Cup ties lit up our week like a firework. Although some teams fielded second string potential over their star talent, Fantasy football’s movers and shakers were still smashing the goals in. Luis Suarez, Gareth Bale, Eden Hazard and a certain Theo Walcott were all in bloom. The question now is whether the midweek goal avalanche will spill over into our weekend’s Premier League action, or will they all get a “touch of the Sunderland’s”?

As always, our “Flutter” selections demand goals from some of our Scout Picks starlets, so let’s see how kind Paddy have been with the markets we threw their way…

Gareth Bale is yet to “explode” as a Fantasy asset and yet he has still managed three goals and three assists. Opponents are perhaps all too familiar with his by-line dashes and weaving runs into the centre and often double up in an attempt to neutralise the Welshman’s galloping runs. The new dad looks to have taken his game to another level of late, though, dominating much of the midweek tie at Norwich – Spurs’ eventual defeat will leave a bitter taste and with a tired Wigan outfit turning up at the Lane, Bale looks good for returns. We’re going to bite Paddy’s hand off for 4/1 on a Bale goal and a Spurs cleanie in this one, so £6 of our tenner is spent.

Whilst Reading suffered embarrassment to Arsene Wenger’s resurgent youngsters, QPR put their feet up and counted the goals flying in with a wry smile. The R’s now play host to the battered Royals on Sunday, hoping the visit of Brian McDermott’s beleaguered outfit hands them the perfect chance to notch a first league win. Adel Taarabt is backed in the Picks this week and Paddy have the Moroccan to score with a QPR clean-sheet at 11/2. Although at first glance this seems a little skinny, fatigue may well put pounds in our pockets as we place £2 of our tenner on this.

West Brom’s James Morrison finds himself right up there with some of the Fantasy heavyweights this term as he revels in his new attacking role behind the lone striker. The Baggies have collected four clean-sheets, whilst Morrison has profited from three assists and two goals thus far. Scout Pick Morrison is 7/1 to score and help make a fifth clean-sheet on Monday against Southampton, and with stats on our side we’re willing to risk a couple of quid on the longer odd.

Register and Bet £10 And Get £20 Free

If you’re new to Paddy Power, then you can take up any of these odds and get yourself a bonus. You can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register an account and bet a tenner.

Finally of course, we should state that all these offers are only available to those aged 18 and over and are subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions. Also, if you’re going to bet, always gamble responsibly.

My front 8.. In the worst case, both Mata and Ba would not play.

    Sterling - Cazorla - Bale - Hazard - Mata*
    Rooney - Berbatov- Ba*

Considering a hit to take Mata out as Hazard is probably enough Chelsea I need now and it's uncertain how serious Mata's injury is.

    A: Mata -> Valencia
    B: Mata -> Y.Toure

Which one worth -4 pts hit?

I've done Mata to Valencia today on WC. I think Mata may drop this GW if he doesn't play, so I don't want to lose out any more money as I'm strapped as it is.

    Begovic
    Baines Rafael Cuellar*

    RVP Ba* Long*

    Good Morning DZ's

Would welcome your views on below, to add to last night.

    Forster
    Clark, baines, muthesucker
    Bale, Cazorla, Michu, Nolan
    Rvp, tevez, Ba.

    bench. Sterling, Demel, Gunter.

1 free trade. 0.2m in bank.

    OPTIONS

    a) Just thinking of losing Demel for a cheapo to help my def cover until I have time to re-asses.

Think I’ll stick with Ba, and if no show Sterling to come in.

    b) I may even do ZERO trades, and get 2 next time out…

    c) some sort of hit with Cazorla and Demel out which I have to think through 🙁
    Any thoughts gents?

Ditch Demel now for Nelsen (QPR)....you won't want to play Demel even when he's back due to poor fixtures and it'll save you 0.1m when he falls next week.

Play Nelsen instead of Clark or Mert, prob Mert...

      Consider playing Sterling...

Thanks for the feedback guys, I think I will hold off this week with no trades and do free double next gw.

It will probably mean ditching Demel anyway, but won't cost me points for better def option if I downgrade elsewhere, also gives me chance to assess today's games and injuries.

Ah well, in that case why don't you match his Sterling and try to find differences in other areas? It's a bit early to be worrying about differentials yet, I think.

I just don't trust Hughes to play Taarabt every week - if he did I'd probably get him myself as he certainly has the ability to score well. I'm certain he'll be a great choice towards the end of the season when Rangers need to win their last 5 home games to stay up again though.

I guess I've had a gut feeling about Taarabt for a good few days now. Never has he graced my team before, but with REA and SOT in his next 3, if he doesn't perform then he'll probably get the boot. Also QPR need to win both of those for Hughes to keep his job imo, so I'm expecting a couple of big performances from the Rs...

The fact Taarabt has started the last 3 and scored 2 goals, makes me think he's fairly safe to start for now at least. It's a gamble though, albeit a slightly educated one (I think!) 🙂

I have made Bale captain, in the hope he goes nuts.
Van Persie’s first game against Arsenal and although he obviously has nothing to prove to them he will still be trying really hard to show them what ther’ye missing, perhaps too hard!!!

He scored at home to QPR, but largely his returns have been away. High scores of 10/11/16 away vs 8/3/2 at home. Caveat Emptor

So I've had the armband on RVP for a few days now, but as we approach the early kick-off my heart is very quickly overtaking my head. Back to Bale(c) we go. Come on Arsenal!! 🙂

I think if I didn't have Bale then I'd stick with RVP, but Bale is a very decent alternative imo.

Have used FT this week and trying to decide between the following 2 options

    1) Rooney and HBA
    2) RVP and cabaye

    Thoughts?

Given yesterday's news would people start Sterling over Mata? Part of me wants to start Mata and cover any RDM bluff but I'd be nervous about him coming on for an annoying 10 minutes - which is probably most likely

    Begovic Ruddy

    Gorkss Baines Cameron Nelsen Cuellar

    Morrison Bale Michu Sterling McAnuff

    Tevez RVP Ba

Im planning on bringing in Mata for Morrison next week.

      Sold him for Valencia.

If he doesn't play this GW I think he will drop in price during the next 7 days. People are fickle and will kneejerk him out on Sunday morning if he doesn't play today.

I think you might be able to get him back £0.1 or so cheaper in a week or so's time and Valencia has very tasty fixtures over the next 5 GW's. Fancy him up against Santos today.

Anyone think of a 4pt hit which can materially help my team this week without stuffing up my plans?
I don't wan't a one game punt like Bale or Defoe

    Begovic
    Clichy, Rafael, Baines
    Mata, Cazorla, Michu, Gerrard (C)
    Giroud, Jelavic, Lambert

    Foster, Vermaelen, Nelsen, Karacan

Next week I plan to sell Vermaelen and depending what Fergie does and if my forwards continue to fail, get Valencia or Rooney.

I don't see Bale as a 1 game punt. I'd also want some Newcastle coverage with their upcoming fixtures. Ba for Giroud is the obvious swap
